I know this comment is a year late, but I'm really surprised no one has suggested Foreigner's I want to know what love is. It's a prime example of a great love song.
Stepping onto the beach of St. Thomas after just graduating, the surf shop was playing this as I walked by to the catamaran. I'll never forget that moment in time combined with the song was magical.
The best love songs describe feelings about the woman's personality, not physical characteristics, and refer to "making love" as opposed to explicit sexual lyrics.
i love watching black people react the way i do when i get introduced to amazing soul music. haha, we like trading our music. I think love music is felt when we listen to it. the soul knows when its bell has been rung.
Alright…at this time grab that special someone and head to the floor for couples only skating with Foreigner’s “Waiting For A Girl Like You”….that’s my memory from ‘81….
It's a stunning song, and the combination of Thomas Dolby and Lou Gramm is just unbelievable. It's actually very futuristic, while also being so incredibly romantic and even, somehow, nostalgic, while also remaining strongly in the future...
T your being so smooth singing to Tasha! Loving the romantic vibe 🥰 This song and “I Want To Know What Love Is” are two of my favorite songs from Foreigner.
I’m 32 years old I’ve seen foreigner 20 times and they are my favorite band they are phenomenal especially live! And all their lyrics in every song it’s amazing
Just saw them recently for my first time. Not sure why because I love rock and I love concerts. I was in 7th grade when their first album came out. I was hooked, lined, and sinkered from the beginning.
This song did set a chart record on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. To this very day, Waiting for a Girl Like You spent the most weeks at the #2 spot on the Billboard Top 10 chart. The record is 10 weeks in a row. The only reason that this song never went to #1 because of the monster hit song, Physical by the late Olivia Newton-John. It also took over the #1 spot for 10 weeks in a row.
Yeeess..one of my all time favorite soft rock songs from the 80's...on repeat on MTV every weekend for several weeks back in the day..great music in all genre's back then
Man the power of music that can just grab your emotions. This song will never tire and Gramm and Dolby created a masterpiece and this is coming from a metalhead. This is music composition at its purest. Not to mention complete getting down mood music. It’s got soul and rhythm but its different than Withers, Gaye, Pendergrass and such as in it’s got that new era feel of that captures the essence of the early 80s combined with the classic sounds of R&B but with a smoky, treble vocal dynamic laid over a smooth backdrop
Great song it does a heart good to see younger folks enjoy music like this I was pretty young one Christmas we didn't have alot of money this tape was literally my only gift but the best Christmas ever I enjoy u guys on utube keep it up
That opening synth part was played by the great Thomas Dolby. I think "4" was their best album. Check out "Jukebox Hero" from the same album. Great early 80's rock!
A love song is a heartfelt anthem. Or you're leaving all your emotions out there. Your Love strip bear. You can connect with every word that is spoken and it resonates deeply.
Written by Lou Gramm + Mick Jones. Mick Jones on backing synth. Thomas Dolby on main synth + programming. LG, MJ, Ian Lloyd, Mutt Lange on backing vocals. He will have sung She Blinded Me with Science the next year, 1982. In 1983, Def Leppard hired both of them. Mutt produced Pyromania + Thomas played keyboards. Family tree. I'm Not in Love 1975 produced by 10cc. Just the Way You Are 1977 produced by Phil Ramone. Waiting for a Girl Like You 1981 produced by Mutt Lange + Mick Jones. Drive 1984 produced by Lange + The Cars. Recommended songs coproduced by Mutt Lange: 1 The Cars. Drive. 2 Bryan Adams. Everything I Do I Do It for You.
There have been many, many love songs... but it's those that marry words with the perfect harmony... I guess it's a matter of 'Ya know it when Ya hear it'.
To me a good love song reaches down in your soul and brings you to a deep emotional place that makes you sad if you've never been there or had that kind of love and happy if you have. This song reminds me of a high school love who I never had but 42 years later I still love and wait that it could still happen. My number one love song of all time is Lionel Richie and Diana Ross singing endless Love 💓
The bass line in this song is fire!!! What makes a love song? Chord progression and lyrics, proper voice? Anything really as long as it moves your soul.
Foreigner is one of my fav bands of all time. They can rock and they can give you a great slow jam. This song is a fav of mine and definitely on the fav love song list at the top. Love songs have to have a great slow beat, the words have to be smooth and make sense and it’s gotta make me feel a certain way. They just don’t make them like this anymore.
I've had the Foreigner "Records" album since it came out. Awesome band. Lou is an all time great singer. My favorite love songs include details about the person, not only their beauty. Those inner qualities that make up who they are, and what they mean to another. The genre isn't as important, as long as the meaning is expressed succinctly.
Good choice Skates. The best song you played that night. What makes a love song great- one that elicits an strong emotional response by the listener. Other great love songs - Andy Williams - Where Do I Begin (Theme from Love Story), Bread - If, Jim Croce - Time in a Bottle, Scorpions - Sill Loving You, Motley Crue - Without You, Shania Twain - From This Moment On
The only song the entire night😋.. Ambrosia.."you're the only woman"..another top 5 love song could have been on the love song playlist..everybody loves that one by Ambrosia as well..
I've been waiting for a girl like you is the quintessential love song. I do like rock love songs too. But songs like this is how all love songs should be done. I do agree with the emotion and relatability but not nostalgia. Who wants to remember a painful part of their past. Especially when you're with a new/current love.
I remember being a kid when I borrowed this album from the library. And first heard the this song wow just memories. T’what beats headphones are those you listen with?
If you had a girlfriend when this album came out, you definitely went to a Sam Goody's or your favorite vinyl store and a got a copy. Pretty soon you had this playing in the background on a Saturday night!
Check out one other awesome ballad of Foreigner: "I Don' t Want to Live without You", Van Morrison's: " Someone Like You", and the Moody Blues: "I Just had to Fall in Love". These are my 3 picks for the greatest love songs. You might even want to put these on your playlist too. 😎
What makes a good love song?
One that elicits an strong emotional response by the listener
You gotta have your heart broken at least once to appreciate love
If the song makes you want to drop what you’re doing and run to that special person in your life as soon as you hear it.
A full arc of a story. "Polka Dots and Moonbeams" (1940). Frank Sinatra's first hit with The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra is a good example.
For one thing, that man's voice! Lou is awesome.
I know this comment is a year late, but I'm really surprised no one has suggested Foreigner's I want to know what love is. It's a prime example of a great love song.
That part
Foreigner was simply great. They had their own sound and a song for every mood. Love to see y’all flirt with each other. It’s the sweetest thing.
I agree! This is one of those songs that every girl wants to hear because it makes her feel unique to you.
Until they get tired of those "Head Games" 😂
It has to be in the top ten all time love songs no question about it
i was thinkin more like top 5!!!
No one makes songs like this anymore-I can’t believe I can still remember the words to all these songs you’ve been listening to. ❤❤
It is one of the greatest love songs of all time.
Stepping onto the beach of St. Thomas after just graduating, the surf shop was playing this as I walked by to the catamaran. I'll never forget that moment in time combined with the song was magical.
This song is timeless magnificent vocals and music just total perfection
One of the best ballads of all time.
So many things to love about this song. The vocals, the music, the lyrics…It belongs on the top 10 greatest love songs list.
One of the all time best vocals in a love song!❤️👍🏻
The greatest love song. Easy. Careless Whispers
1981, 13 years old, Jr High School and puberty. That should say enough about this tune.
This one was just fine and I heard it when it first came out,High school years were 72/76
Alright…at this time grab that special someone and head to the floor for couples only skating with Foreigner’s “Waiting For A Girl Like You”….that’s my memory from ‘81….
I first heard this song when it first came out and I was 6 years old...it moved me even then. Still one of my all time favorites. Its timeless.
It's a stunning song, and the combination of Thomas Dolby and Lou Gramm is just unbelievable. It's actually very futuristic, while also being so incredibly romantic and even, somehow, nostalgic, while also remaining strongly in the future...
Lou Gramm blinded Thomas Dolby with his voice 😆
T your being so smooth singing to Tasha! Loving the romantic vibe 🥰 This song and “I Want To Know What Love Is” are two of my favorite songs from Foreigner.
I have always loved this singers voice
One of rock music's BEST bands.
Go down the rabbit hole with them you won't be disappointed!!!!!!❤❤❤❤
This was definitely on one of the getting lucky mixed tapes of rock ballads definitely mood music❤
I had this album when it came out. Conjures up some great times.
Keep up the good work and Thank you.
Foreigner were straight up Juke Box Heroes!!!
❤❤❤my favourite band😊😊😊
Lou Graham & Steve Perry on vocals make great Love Songs
I’m 32 years old I’ve seen foreigner 20 times and they are my favorite band they are phenomenal especially live! And all their lyrics in every song it’s amazing
I saw them back in the mid 80's. Best concert, show wise, I've seen.
Just saw them recently for my first time. Not sure why because I love rock and I love concerts. I was in 7th grade when their first album came out. I was hooked, lined, and sinkered from the beginning.

The voice... Lou Gramm. Foreigner, my favorite band. Great vocals and harmonies, great instrumentation, great songs and lyrics. They had it all.

Me and my wife has got to see them 3 times there so awesome live there music is great
It has to be something that I can relate to in my feelings. A song that reflects the way I feel for my special lady.
Man the power of music that can just grab your emotions. This song will never tire and Gramm and Dolby created a masterpiece and this is coming from a metalhead. Absolutely a FAVORITE
Excellent tune - i like everything on this record...my fave Foreigner album
Tell your girl, cold hands warm heart. It’s true.
This song still holds the record of being #2 the most consecutive weeks without reaching #1. Ten weeks in a row.
CCR holds the distinction of having the most #2 songs on the Billboard Charts (6).
What was #1 at the time?
@@carsonwentz8301Most of it was Olivia Newton John's, "Physical"
A good love song is a song you can play to your significant other to tell them how you feel about them in a much better way than you can!
JUST A GREAT GREAT CLASSIC ROCK BAND OF THE 70'S YOU GUYS!!!😊 THAT POWERRRRR ON ( LOU GRAMM ), HIS VOCALS!😊
The Spinners made fabulous love songs and the best are their deep cuts you did not hear on radio.
I remember being a little kid hearing this in the 70s when it first cane out when the FM. Stereo came out.
I would agree this is one of the greatest love songs, but there are many greats.
What makes a love song great is impacting the relationship, being able to give with it and that it’s so good you play it year after year
Foreigner great band ...love their music.
This song, for me, will always be associated with couples skate at the local skating rink in the mid 80s.
great song
The way you express your meaning in the way you say

'You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me' by Gladys Knight and the Pips is very good. :)
Back in “84”, when I married,I chose this song for first dance with wife. I guess it worked, 38 yrs later we’re still together!😏

Wow; I didn’t realize the pedigree of the artists of this song was so high. That is amazing.
I love a good popular love song that I hear the first time during a honeymoon stage of a relationship!😁🙃

I front a Foreigner Tribute band and I’ll tell you….. I even start to mention this song and the crowd noise goes up really loud…. Beautiful song
Lmao why would it be this or “slit your guts”🤣 😂 💀

A LOVE SONG IS GREAT WHEN IT TAKES YOU BACK TO A MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE WITH A SPECIAL SOMEONE.
"Open Arms" by Journey. "Hoping you'll see what your love means to me ..." gorgeous.
takes me back to late 70's, Champs Roller Skating Rink, Friday nites.

The love song I like to play to my wife is "I Don't Love You Much, Do I" by Guy Clark. It's country but I love it.
Just listen to this song this is why

To me the best love songs are the ones that can describe the feelings u felt & memories that came with it.

My man's feeling what Lou is saying. That's brandy and she's a fine girl and he wants her to know it! Looking through the glass that is.
"At War With the World" - from - 1977 'Foreigner' album - by - Foreigner: If you both want - and having time to listen: The Adventures of TNT.
