When Foreigner released their first album, I was sold. I saw them in concert in 1978, tickets were $7.50 (I thought it was high), but they put on a great show. I've been a fan since day one. Lou Gramm has one of the best voices in rock history.

The original bass player Eddie Gagliardi was my next door neighbor in the projects in Brooklyn. I used to hear him practicing to the songs of the day like Zeppelin, the Who and Beatles. He was a huge McCartney fan and that is why he played left handed and chose the Rickenbacker. They moved away and a few years later I was working in the record department in a local store and saw this album cover and his picture on the cover. This was his dream to be in a band like this.

I love Starrider. Ian brought the progressive rock flavour to their sound. Then Robert Lange produced the 4 album and told them to become a 4 piece with a rockier edge. Ian once replied to a comment of mine, and clearly expressed how bitter he is to this day. I often wonder what they could have produced as a 6 piece band. Their first album remains a favourite of mine. I absolutely love all their music though.

They paint a picture and tell a story like very few imo. Lou’s word selection and phrasing is very unique as well. Other must listen songs include Double Vision, Hot Blooded, Blue Morning, Blue Day, Head Games, Cold as Ice and Break it Up. "Golden Country"
      "Ridin' the Storm Out'
      "Son of a Poor Man"
      "157 Riverside Avenue"
"Like You Do" (you can do a concert from 1979/1980, where they open with "Say You Love Me or Say Goodnight" and follow up with this)
And yes, "Roll with the Changes" and "Time for Me to Fly". Cronin did write some good songs.

Foreigner does have another ballad, and it's from the early 90s. It's called I DON'T WANT TO LIVE WITHOUT YOU. You wouldn't even know you were listening to Foreigner, since it's such a mellow song. However, it's one of the sweetest love songs EVER - it was the song my husband and I danced to at our wedding. PLEASE REACT to it soon! Thanks! ✌💖

"Long long way from home" is the foreigner song you turn the volume up so hard so your belly vibrates as you sing along, kinda like that scene from back to the future when Marty blows out the speakers ramping the power up. All masculine intensity

This song came from Foreigner's first album, self titled "Foreigner", in 1977. It was their debut single and their first hit. Foreigner's follow up albums have great songs as well and definitely worth looking into. This song really takes me back. I was 16 years old and hanging out, down the street with my friends, wondering how we were going to kill time lol. Thanks for this video reaction!

They released this in March 1977 and singles kept dropping all through that year. It was one of the albums I got for Christmas that year. There were so many hits; feels like the first time, cold as ice, long long way from home, woman oh woman, head knocker. Everyone is still just as good as the day with they were brand-new on the radio.

This song takes me back to the 1970’s. I was 14 or 15 and my favorite tv show James at 15 had the best soundtrack for a tv series, and one of those songs was Foreigner’s “It Feels Like the First Time” and it just woke me up inside, hearing that song the first time. ❤😃

Thanks for reacting to this song. I love it so much.

That was the golden era of song writing, musicianship, and originality. They did not watch youtubes to learn how to coot each other. They sat in rooms for years and played for years at joints and establishments looking into audiences and how they felt.
Today's musicians are way to impatient and lack depth. That era was about spending years on songs until it was perfect.
They also created different. They did not pull random tracks and lay down a song. They played together until it was right.
It will never be the same again

Lou Gramm is something else, and Foreigner helped launch some serious careers. During the recording of their track "Urgent", they tapped a studio musician to lay down the keyboards. That musician would later use the royalties from that hit song to launch his own solo career and a HUGE hit of his own just a few years later called "She Blinded Me With Science" - none other than Thomas Dolby! ;-)

I’m not sure who got the idea to tell you that “I Want To Know What Love Is” was Foreigner’s first ballad, because their first ballad (or power ballad) was “Waiting For A Girl Like You” from the same album that featured “Juke Box Hero” and “Urgent” (Foreigner 4). “Waiting For A Girl Like You” set a record of spending 10 weeks at #2 on the chart without ever reaching #1 - kept out first by Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical”, then Daryl Hall & John Oats’ “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)”. This chart performance prompted the record company to ask Foreigner to try to repeat it - which led to “I Want To Know What Love Is”, which is Foreigner’s only #1 song.

First album is the best.Amazing. His previous band - Black Sheep - had gotten a record deal was suppose to be opening band for KISS in 1975. Trying to get to 1ST concert their equipment was destroyed. They couldn't afford more equipment, instruments. Record co.wouldn't put up money for them to buy equipmt. With no equip. the band broke up intenting to get back together later. In meantime Mike Jones,British lead guitarist wanted to create new rock band w/his control.Mike saw tape of Black Sheep a year after Lou gave it to him. He listened to a hundred singers but couldn't find what he wanted. Heard Lou,s singing, said that's what I want. Called Lou who was doing lawn work in Rodchester, NY, asked him if he was interested.Lou called Black Sheep members & asked what they thought of him trying out, he wanted to keep Black Sheep together if possible. They said go for it, with no prospects & not wanting to hold him back. They were close & grew up together wanting rock music careers Lou went to NYC, Mike gave him lyrics to Mike's new songs he would make demos of for record companies. Lou with hardly any time to prepare performed them in first tryouts almost as they would later be recorded on the album. He blew them away. Mike knew he had hit the jack pot. And Lou is one of the sweetest, most sincere person with no ego. He was originally a drummer. He really only started singing early bands as a back up singer while drumming.
