Yes. I believe he actually already confirmed that somewhere. Also if you read all the lyrics of the song there are more references to it being about a secret society.
@@putridabomination but who draws the lines? Its the same argument ive always heard where people say a band is that certain sub genre and then someone else comes and says thats completly wrong because of some minor detail. I think you should always look at music with the intend of the musician AND NOTHING ELSE. Genres and such are literally just a way of grouping music which is kinda destroying the purpose of music in my opinion as music is always something unique. The only logical purpose for a genre is so that you can find similar to what you already like but even that never really seems to work as many bands and musicians are so inherently different that theres no real point in comparing them to others of the same genre. I just dislike the thought of grouping music and well you can see that it only causes conflict and rarely ever has any reasonable purpose.
When a band can sell out not 1 but 2 week nights at the Forum in Los Angeles CA without a supporting act it's safe to say that band has MADE IT...Ghost is that band!
From a lore standpoint, Square Hammer is interesting. In the music video, there's a cardinal on a grave in the film they're watching, foreshadowing the death of the Emerituses and rise of Cardinal Copia. Papa Nihil also get's foreshadowed (it seems) in the grave scene. Also, you can hear a bit of "Rats" in one part. You hear the ssong and watch the video without thinking of Prequelle.
I LOVE the Maiden shirt. Square hammer was the FIRST EVER song I heard by Ghost. I heard on my cars radio and went looking for MORE songs by Ghost online, here on RUclips. Tobias mentions "Uriah Heap" here, I remember seeing their albumn in the 80's in a record store with a "creature" with a GIANT "toothy smile" on the albumn cover. In that same record store I fell in LOVE with Iron Maiden's record "Maiden Japan" just by seeing the record cover and THEN when I heard it I was SO in LOVE with Maiden's music, I remember buying the LP and having to hide it in the back of my leather jacket so my parents would NOT know about it. It was the 80's and it was ALL "devil worship" hysteria, every frickin talk show had it on OPrah, Donahue etc. I am sure IF my mom could see my CD of "Prequel" she'd be preaching at me, and I am almost 50 years old. I do want to buy the whole Ghost CD set, but, money is tight ya know.
This was the song that introduced me to Ghost. It just popped up on here on the sidebar while I was watching a Rammstein video ... and immediately fell in love. 🖤 Sometimes RUclips gets me 🤣
Hmmmmm.... "Iron Maiden" t-shirt... Tobias also mentioned in one of his latests interviews, that Ghost's music doesn't sound as good as it should, when they play them at big places/scenes and that's the problem that bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden had in the past, that's why both bands started to play slower, more melodic music, so it sounds just as great in studio as it sounds on scene. He said that Ghost will probably have to take that course.... Soo.. I think that next album will be styled on Iron Maiden and Metallica stuff. I'm totally IN :DD!!!!!
I get what he's saying about needing an opener but how it gets inverted. I saw this happen with My Chemical Romance. Early on in Black Parade they used "Famous Last Words" primarily as a closer but by the end 2 years later, there were several shows where they opened with it. It's like the energy or meaning of the song changes or takes on new different dimensions as the shows go on.
First time I heard this intro I thought someone had made a cover of Type O Negatives 'My Girlfriends Girlfriend'. The intros sound very similar to me, both great songs tho!🤟

I MUST agree with Tobias about "Square hammer" being the first song by Ghost to be played on the radio here in the US. I had been listening to the West Virginia college station and had heard "Square hammer" on the radio, and had then came here to RUclips to hear more of Ghost. I now LOVE damn near EVERY song by Ghost. In the USA, it DOES help to have radio play, just so that people are aware of your band and your bands "hit songs" if you are dealing with YOUNG PEOPLE. Ghost has so many great songs that basically they have fans that just LOVE MOST or all of their songs. As for me, I still need to buy "popestar" and "opus Eponymous" or however you spell it. AND, now, since there are NO MORE "record stores", I would have to buy the CD's on "Amazon" or another online source. BUT, I do NOT have an "amazon account", BUT, my mom does. And so, YOU are LIKELY to SEE my delima..... IF I were to use my mothers "Amazon account" to buy my GHOST cd;s, that means that SHE will be seeing the titles of the songs on those cd;s. Most people will say "so what, you are an adult", BUT, she had bullied me into returning a CD back to a record store back when our local mall had still had a "record store". It was NOT a Ghost CD, and I can't recall what bands cd it was, it had a really popular song on the radio that had the popular or "hit song" being something about a thorn in the rose, and the band was from Germany OR Scandinavia. As soon as my mom knew that I owned that CD, she went online to read the lyrics, and soon she had browbeaten me into returning my CD . SO, I am just PISSED that I can NOT just go into a "record store" AND BUY the CD';s that I want. YES, I am 50 years old, BUT, I would HATE to have to get into a fight with my mom over my choice in music. She is "hella religious" and I REALLY wish that I could just avoid the whole "flashback" to childhood, that I am guaranteed to have just by using HER "Amazon" account. I am going to go on Ebay FIRST to see if they have these 2 Ghost CD;s for sale.

Definately is. The "are you on the square" and "are you on the level" are common phrases for the free masons, that much is known.
He has stated in some interviews that it is not about Freemasonry, but it sure seems like it is.
@@slyfox7273 prolly cause he doesn't wanna get disappeared lol
Yes. I believe he actually already confirmed that somewhere. Also if you read all the lyrics of the song there are more references to it being about a secret society.
Yeah I think so too
Metalheads always be acting like they got a PhD in metal and know exactly where one genre ends and another begins
And at the end of the day it's all subjective anyways :D
@@Homanjer Not really no. Subgenres are quantifiable, and distinguishable.
@@Khazandar how?
@@Homanjer Types of Vocals, techniques used, tempo, types of gear, tuning, lyrical themes, instruments used, emotion, the phrasing, and crap like that
@@putridabomination but who draws the lines?
1:07 you were right it was so good and I can't go with the day without listening to that particular song
Finally realized who this guy looks like / makes me think of: Andy Bernard (a.k.a. Nard Dog) from The Office.
Ghost is dope AF. There's a lot of old Sabbath, old Doors, some Deep Purple, beautiful, melodic shit. I love them
🤘 B O C ! another band before it's time. Seeing them live has Always been worthwhile.🤔 as was Rainbow in the 80's 🎸🎙🎶🎹
Such a great song with an unforgettable chorus 🤘
his eyes are actually so pretty it hurts
Loved that Uriah Heep and Blue Oyester Cult shout out!
This was the song that introduced me to Ghost. It just popped up on here on the sidebar while I was watching a Rammstein video ... and immediately fell in love. 🖤 Sometimes RUclips gets me 🤣
We need a Fred Armisen impression of Tobias
Lmfao. When worlds collide
i’m only 10 seconds in and this is already so wholesome
Is no one gonna talk about 7:40?? No??
I gasped so loud it startled my mum lol She asked what I was watching and I didn't know what to say
7:37 is the moment you are looking for... 😂😂
First time I heard this intro I thought someone had made a cover of Type O Negatives 'My Girlfriends Girlfriend'.
The intros sound very similar to me, both great songs tho!🤟
I legit thought the same thing when Square Hammer was released.
Intro of Square hammer is similar to Russian horror punk band "Korol i shut" song - Pivnoy cherep (Beer skull)
Tobias Forge is a magnificent genius 🖤
Damn, his accent is pretty damn good. I’m not a native English speaker, like him, and I thought it’d be difficult to understand him, but he actually speak better than some Americans lol
Scandinavians are pretty fluent in English.
He’s not a native English speaker…
Well deserved. Congratulations.
5:15 WOOOOEEEEIIIEOOOOOUUH
killer tofu
Love Square Hammer. Just learned to play it!
Cirice is Metal song of the Decade imo
Uh..you should prob listen to some more metal bands.
@@ratboyninja you disagree, that's fine but leave out the sass
Alec Maynard i mean...it DID get em a grammy.
And it DID put em on the map and got them superstardom
Is it me, or is Tobias's voice just so relaxing?
And now the decade is going to be over, but Loudwire's fellating of Ghost is nowhere near it's end. W"elcome to 2020 and the new slipknotghostwire.com!"

amazing musician
I love Uriah Heep, have many of their albums and magazines with their pic in it(Sound Exchange in Tampa was selling old magazines)
Now I know why I like Tobias and Ghost😍
Very well spoken, and i Love the fact he understands that ghost is hard rock not metal. He also seems very humble. Seems like he has a vision.
Yes. He's had a vision before they ever played a single show. A friend came up with the Papa design, he had the support from his wife who encouraged him from the beginning andnd to follow his dream.
Yes, he is an extremely kind and humble man. Fans who have met him will always comment this usually and you see it in all his interviews which lol In which I’ve probably watched
Love the shirt. I saw them open for Iron Maiden. Awesome show!
The song that got me hooked, and I mean HOOKED to ghost.
Graham clearly has a stiffy for Tobias. The dreamy look on his face says it all. Hanging on his every word. Lol
