To get that large drive pulley off easier , just move the lever for the deck down and it allows clearance to remove that pulley and the belt and you should've removed that spring on the tensioner pulley before you started.
I have that same tractor A little newer I'm worried about when the rear end goes dry Somebody told me that you could drill a whole tap and put Put bear and grease in there I got a try yet aluminum rear end They don't last long thank you for the video
I have never seen one go dry under normal use but i guess it could happen. I haven't tried to add grease or oil to them but if i do I will surly make a video on it.
Thanks for the comprehensive video. While I’ve never taken the fenders off to change a belt on an MTD product, it was helpful to see how it’s done and what it looks like underneath. In my experience, it’s better to use an OEM belt on the transmission. The MTD belts are made differently and an aftermarket belt just won’t last as long. While the aftermarket belts may be nominally the same size, the MTD belt may be 1/4 to 1/2” different and have a different pitch to the V. MTD belts cost more, but you want to go as many years as possible in between changes.
You didn't show the clutch hookup. Tom Doby down Atlanta had the most trouble hooking up the flaky clutch components. Took him all his strength and fiddle ability to get the pulleys correctly lined up. The customer had bought a Lowes generic belt that turned out too short making everything act bad. So Bear puller seems to not have a problem with it which means he should have shown his version of correct new belt fiddling in the clutch area. I am pretty sure when Troy Built makes a zero turn they will have the same complicated belt setup since this does away with hydro shifting funkiest and aluminum pressure pumps. I admire Troy Built for this heady thinking.
@PaulHigginbothamSr Tom is a great machanic and very knowledgeable. I didn't have the trouble he had. That is why I didn't show it. I have learned a lot from Tom.

I had to replace the variable drive belt and pulley on mine because the belt i got was to tight this was a while back before the season started the same way you made the video on here taking the frame off the back made it easier to get the belt off there and i think i ended up putting the spring in the same spot you did also i used old trimmer line to pull the spring on , good video installing the belts 👍 🔧
On my personal mower I just grind the shaft back enough to get the 7/8 socket on so next time I will not remove cover to change out top belt And drill 2 inch hole in floor and plastic plug installed
Ed, you did a great job with this video, thank you. I recently changed the drive belt in my Troy bilt pony (2011), the belt is very tense now, not sure if that’s the way it’s supposed to be, I don't know if that will be the cause of my problem, now I can only control the speed with the throttle lever, even when I put it in rabbit mode the motor goes at high rpm, but the ground speed is about half the normal speed; the (yellow on mine) speed control lever doesn’t work, it goes up and down without locking the notches, offers no resistance and does nothing. (however, the engaging of the parking brake action works fine). I opened up the mower and saw the yellow speed control lever attached to a connecting rod which is attached down there to the cupped metal piece in the correct position as the new Troy Bilt Pony I saw yesterday at Home Depot, but besides allowing to be put in in park position, I don’t see it attached to anything else, is it right? How does it regulate the speed if it is not connected to anything else? Thank you in advance.
Hello need your advice n expertise I got a troybilt bronco 19 hp 2018 I have replaced the transmission drive pulley, n drive belt but if I place it in reverse it doesn't move But my new belt is loose even when I press on the drive pedal how can I adjust the tension thanks
I changed the lower transmission belt and now it rides like 1/4 speed on flat ground, as soon as it starts cutting or going up hill it slowly starts going about 1/8 speed until it finally stops moving. It goes it little bursts at full speed down hill or with no grass. Idk what's causing it other than bc the belt is 5/8ths instead of the .656 bs that troy bilt brand Sells its causing an issue. It's the only thing I changed and I can't figure out why it's doing this
Changed my belts today using your video! A++++! Excellent guide and camera work! As a retired university administrator, I know awesome instruction!
That's awesome. Thank you for the compliment.
A master class in springs, pulleys and drive belts on the troybilt pony! Well done!

@@Boudica999 That's for the insight. I will definitely do that if I ever have to do another one.

I dearly love Napa stores. They was my go to parts store. Now we lost them here🥺 That only leave me with the LOST ZONE AND OH NO'Relly
I'm very lucky here, my story burnt down a couple years ago but they were in a new building and surviving their customers with in 3 days.

I have used trimmer string too, it works well because it's thin and strong.
You save me a lot of work! Very informative video, thanks!
Your welcome. I'm glad it helped.
Wow great video. Now I feel confident enough to change my belts
That's awesome Jimmy. Glad the video helps.
Way to lasso that spring there Ed 🤠 I got to get me that crows foot wrench set !!!
Lol thank you it's taken years of practice to use a rope that well. Crowsfoot sockets can really come in handy sometimes.
I'm watching your videos. I have a beautiful beard like yours. We might look like twins

I call those mowers potato chip mowers stamped out and all shoved in a bag😊😅. Now that that part's over I know it's a good video.😂
Lol..they are a cheap mower but people pay well to have them fixed, they love them.
At 4:32 I'm just amazed at the balancing act you pulled off with the battery bracket teetering on the foot rest. 🤣
Nice job on everything else bud. 👍
Lol I didn't think anyone would notice that...I was very surprised it held on till I set it down.
It was impressive. 🙂👍🏼

It's should be connected to and idler to pull tension on the belt
Good work. Whilst you are doing one you might as well do them all.
That was my thoughts too.
At one point is was thinking of cutting the dam belt guards off that lower pulley
Ya the first one I ever did had me pulling my hair out.
@@PullerbearEd i know what you mean 🤪🤪The vice grips really helped 👍👍
What model was that pony?
@3gchapa i will have to look back through my record to see if I have that info.
Great Video… Excellent!
Thank you.
Go to almost the end it may help
Okay, if I ever do another one I might try that, thanks.
Are they the same belt numbers for the Bronco?
I don't believe so.
What was the front lower pulley for?
It is the beck drive belt pulley
hey can you tell me is troy bilt almost the same as toro thanks
I've never replaced the drive belt on a Toro but most modern lawn tractors are made by MTD and are basically the same thing.
@@PullerbearEd thankyou
Your welcome
Mtd did make some toros
Great time to replace vsd brging also 6203 rs two of them
Yes it is but I can only do what the customer wants done.
How do you break the bolt on the front pulley?
I use and impact but if you don't have one you can lock a pair of vice grip around the center shaft to hold it then use a ratchet and socket
Is this possible to do without removing the deck?
Not easily.

There should be a idler arm and spring around the rear belt. Also make sure the variable speed pully is moving freely
