Sending positive and healing thoughts to Spencer
My team is Simone, Shilese, Skye, Suni, and Jade!
we love you Spencer
This is the team...i know people want Kayla to be on the team but she will not benefit anywhere....the team only needs a vault and floor specialist
Replace jade with Jordan and I agree
@@matshitseamantleJordan is doing far better than Jade tho. We can use Jo on literally ANY event and she will post a high number.
@@SquirtlePower809 If Jade upgrades her floor she is the second best on floor behind Simone and she has a cheng which Jordan does not have...Jordan scores high 13 on floor while Jade can have a 6.2-6.3 difficulty which can score mid 14s so why do we need Jordan again..every other event is accounted for
That was my initial choice and lineup too... But I think Kayla performed better on floor and vault than Jade did at Nationals, did she not?
Somehow I don't find it relevant to give Classics scores equal validity to simply be averaged with the Nationals score
I'm afraid I have to disagree with the checklist. Nothing Ellie Black does is artistic but because she follows the rules, she doesn't get deducted but that is not artistry.
Ellie Black is very expressive and artistic. What's your ideal on artistry?
@@cocoroni1031 That isn't artistry. That is presentation. And she isn't expressive.
@@acacia7530 What's your ideal on artistry then?
Some actual dance ability like Eythora or Barbara Achondo. Neither of them are professional level dancers of course but they would at least be respected in a dance studio…I love Ellie Black but she would be laughed out. If FIG is going to try to force subjectiveness into women’s floor they should at least be rewarding dance mastery rather than whatever Ellie is doing.
Score another win for WCC. Melanie wins French AA.
team usa won’t go to paris with 4/5 all arounders… they already know the medal is theirs to lose, especially with simone on the team, they’ll choose someone who can help the team and bring more medals for the usa( it’s the olympics, it’s not only gymnastics you guys, medals at any color matter, china and usa fights every olympics to see which country gets more medals) jade can medal on vault and floor, suni can medal on beam and maybe bars.. jordan and another all around gymnasts would literally just help the team that is already strong with simone, shilese skye and maybe suni. if she hits 4/4 at trials, jade is the answer. you guys will see
China's thinking is gold or dust. USA's priority should be medals of any color. So they are not comparing for the same metric. I agree that they should win all possible medals. Another Grace Mccallum in 2024 isn't the answer. Olympic judges reversed 3rd - 6th domestic rank order in Tokyo anyway.
As both a gymnerd and a certified metalhead... I approve of the horns regardless of their intended meaning. \m/ And lowkey, I legit DREAM of the day a gymnast picks an instrumental technical death metal song to do floor to!!!! (I know, I can keep dreaming... LOL) Enough with the T Swift already, the grindcore subgenre has TONS of short songs to pick from ladies! 😂
I think I heard some Nightwish not too long ago. Small victories.
@@Scatach7 I wish I had enough bandwidth to “remix” some of my favorite routines to extreme metal tunes… xD Imagine watching Simone land one of her passes right on some nasty break down, or Jade finishing that horns up routine to a guttural pig squeal… 🤣 Even a death-doom waltz, Swallow the Sun or something like that would be hella cool. They did that ballet thing not long ago, imagine Shilese to some moody romantic doom ballet, with her long lines and elegant form! 😘👌
The hand symbol Jade used is the "Hook 'em!" From TU. It also is American sign language for love. The religious right in the '60-70's got bent from Ozzy Osbourne using the sign at his concerts and decided it was " Satan's horns" .....you're welcome....oh and I'm first here! 🤪
Oh and one more thing (in my best Columbo voice....) remember that Jordan is a clutch performer, I think she saved the silver medal when she not only stepped in for Simone on maybe 20 minutes notice but also rallied the team and hyped them up in Tokyo. Foresters stupid dependency on Simone (remember when at team trials he said that the gold wouldn't depend on .10s ? I think that played a part in the pressure on Simone that broke the camels back for her) as the one who would carry the team to the top. It's a TEAM effort not a one woman show. As fantastic as Simone is, she can't do it alone.
@@margaretkinnaman8585 I agree that Jordan was a big part of past teams and morale, but if other girls on that shortlist can do that as well, AND outscore her... fair is fair. And if we're talking medals, and not just team score... I can't see her medalling right now, anywhere. I'd love to, but with the Andrades, Nemours, Qiyuans, BIles, Jones et al. of the world upping the ante... she'd have to pull a real one at trials to earn that spot, any other country she'd be an easy in.. but in that crowded field?! Still up in the air until trials... but errors in others' consistency might help her make her case. I'm still worried about Blakely... as improved as she is, I worry she might crumble under that Olympic pressure, whereas Jordan would assuredly be solid.. her solid 14s may override some fickle 15s in the end... Suni might falter. Jones may injure herself further. There's SO MUCH up in the air, pun intended... xD It's too hard to guess!! 😅 I love them all! haha
@@katymaloneyI agree 100% with everything you said. And you're right on the nose with the other countries strong AA ladies & event finalists. This is probably the best gymnastics field ever. Can't wait to see who is competing AA. Like you I'm concerned with Skyes' consistency and nerves. She was so good at Nationals but I really don't trust Valeri to not over train her and damage her in his chase to have another gold medalist from his gym. And I took hope Shis shoulder just needs rest. She still has 5-6 weeks to heal but she also needs time back to seriously train as well so it's going to be a delicate balancing act for sure. I too love puns.
@@margaretkinnaman8585 I’m from Canada, we get excited when we crack top 8 in one event… 😂 I’m (not so) secretly rooting for France to get their merde together… if they had managed to keep Nemour, and could manage not to bully their gymnasts… they’d be competitive! (No offense to Algeria… they saw the golden ticket and went for it, good on them, but like you said, can’t win a team event with one star only… 🤷🏻♀️)… Serves France well that now Nemour is about to win one for Africa! Take that, colonialism! 🤣 I’m very much a US and BR fan though, patriotism and ancestry be damned! I can’t wait to see them fight it out!!!
The thumb is extended out to the side for “I love you” which I don’t think Jade is doing
sent an email in to you guys after listening to this episode on Monday. Spencer was getting his port put in the day i got mine out. Im only 2 months out from treatment for anal cancer and it feels like it happened years ago! So proud of you Spencer! we all love u so much.
my opinion, Simone wants rededemption for Tokyo & her ladies that were there taking them minus skinner & grace wouldn't be surprisisng to me
YEP!
Laurie Hernandez facial expressions matched her music perfectly. It wasn’t cheerleader it was whimsical, kooky, and I loved her ability to convey the music so well. It was more Weird Al, Mime; big expressive face, and definitely not open mouth statue cheerleader with big smile.
Reminded me of Herbie Hancock's "Rock it" video...
@@creating1_c1999 Good example!
DOes Jade have a chance to making the team?
She has to if she hits a 6.3D - 6.5D floor and Cheng vault. Team USA should go for all possible medals.
@@cocoroni1031 Chellsie and Alicia are very unprofessional.
My feelings team is Simone, Shilese, Skye, Suni, and Jordan!
Ditto
Same!
Mykayla Skinner finished 10th at nationals in 2021. If Kayla chokes or Skye, they will not be named to this team. Stop counting out Leanne Wong.
Leanne Wong's big challenge is the domestic judges. She's not going to make the team with this inconsistently strict judging against her.
@@cocoroni1031 her most recent international scores are not impressive either though. Her second vault was devalued at worlds last year and it hasn’t been improved much at all. She needs to add atleast another half twist to prevent the devaluation
@@cocoroni1031she has fallen several times though, can’t blame the judges for that
@@Jasperollie84 So judges could downgrade her vault #2 day 1 while giving candy credit on day 2, when all top contenders fell (Leanne only fell once). Make it make sense🤔
The judges are against Leanne and someone needs to call them out for it? This team has already been decided. Tatiana Perskaia has too much control over the US judges, and she is controlled by Alicia, and they are making the decisions on who judges what. This is all fixed.
Leanne was lowballed really bad. She didn't get credit for the 4.8D 2nd vault on day 1. She was judged harshly, while others were given candy credit on top of not receiving deductions that international judges will take. Unfortunate for Leanne.
@@cocoroni1031I’ve been saying Leanne is getting low balled for a long time. Even in the NCAA championship. I’m not sure why they keep low balling Leanne. She’s excellent most of the time.
🤘from “Stick It” too
For many winter sports, the selection and appeals process is well-documented. It most likely exists due to so many lawsuits, arbitrations, and not filling spots in skiing.
Am I the only one that thinks the artistry standards in the quad are ridiculous? These women are already doing the most challenging gymnastics in the world and now they have to look Iike professional dancers too? Facial expressions and all? I get that it’s called artistic gymnastics but the men don’t have to dance so what’s up?? As a trained dancer I never find myself particularly impressed with dancing from most gymnasts even the ones that have “good artistry”. I think dancing should be optional for men and women on floor.
I don't know why people keep pushing Top 5 all around. Tokyo Olympic judges literally reversed the whole AA rank order (except top1-2) pushed by Tom Deforestation in 2021😂
LOL!
If they take top 5, Jordan will make the team.
She was 5th without Shilese at nationals. Yes she had errors both days, but so did others above and below her.
@@absurdhominid4669 I agree and she has a reputation for consistency whereas Skye is the opposite. Kayla is significantly over-scored.
@@beyou-tvision This is where the pressure is on Skye to repeat her performance at nationals because Jordan has consistency and she's legal dopamine.
The Skye consistency is the real issue here I think. I'm afraid that Valeri is going to push her and cause her to question herself and we all know how he's damaged other gymnasts including his own daughter. I'm afraid that Skye will either be over trained and injured or over trained and exhausted come trials. And I hope that Shi is healed and healthy for trials too. And that the team whom ever is selected stays healthy in the weeks leading up to the Olympics.
@@margaretkinnaman8585 Yevgeny Marchenko is her coach…. This proves how deep of a vendetta some of you have against Valeri. Skye is not Valeris athlete. Point blank
You wanna see artistry ? Go and watch some videos from Canadian Nationals on the weekend… woooo baby
Jade puts up the fingers that mean F*ck you. Everyone used that sign back in the 70’s. 😂 Maybe its meaning has changed now 🤷. I just hope she doesn’t use it if she is on the Olympic team.
It’s all about marketing! That’s why they over score Suni’s level ten vault and floor routine. Jordan should be on this team and boosts the mental health of the team.
I agree with both.
It’s completely all about gymnastics 💀 A team therapist or councilor is what you’re referring to
Nobody is putting an athlete on a team specifically to upkeep team morale, y’all are out of your minds
@@BenThompson Yes they are very delusional.
@@aliciamcdonald7105 yea they absolutely should not choose someone for the sake of boosting morale, that would be ridiculous, but Jordan is more than that, so if she's chosen it will be about her gymnastics.
Wtf is that reaction Jessica??! How insanely rude to that commenter-- who btw MANY people INCLUDING professionals such as Kathy Johnson Clarke and Bridget Sloane literally said the same!! I agree with the comment as well. Maybe stop insulting so many people?? Jordan is a GREAT pick for this team both for her ability to fill ANY spot (jade and Kayla can't put up high scores on all events like Jo can) and her incredible energy and leadership. It is foolish to ignore team dynamics.
Because it's the reality .... Jessica was not rude, brutally honest, yes, but the selection committee doesn't give a damn about Jordan's personality. Jordan has been kept off teams before Because of a previous coach ya think her personality will get her on a Olympic team... be real
@@Cc-eh8kc If you read some of these people's comments elsewhere you will get a TRUE sense of what they mean by 'team dynamics'. Having said that, I do agree that Jordan has that underrated 'buddy team mate' quality but at the end of the day, NO ONE should make the team because of that. The team should consist of members who will provide the best opportunity to secure a massive team win and the most medals ever. As such, the team in my humble opinion should be Simone, Shilese, Suni, Skye and Jade with Jordan and Kayla being the alternates. That way, Jordan can still provide 'incredible energy and leadership'.
I didn't interpret the reaction as being aimed at a person, more the idea that personality will be a part of the selection, which should NOT really be for the selection committee to reward. Chemistry is important, but please let the gymnastics be THE reason an individual makes the team.
@@colettemcnabb7365 *let the gymnastics be THE reason an individual makes the team* Hear, hear.
What would be the conclusion if they pick: Biles, Jones, Blakely, Lee, and......Roberson, EVEN IF Jordan, Hezly, Kayla, Kaliya, and Leanna outscore Josylin....
Now that's a mind boggler
With Simone (and the fact that the Russians are out of the team competition), the U.S. will definitely win no matter who they are bringing on the team.
Why are we having this discussion on who to bring tho? I'm genuinely curious.
Whether the Russians are there or not would not change anything with respect to the outcome of TF if the US were to get the selection right as they did in Rio. A team of Simone, Shilese, Suni, Skye and Jade could rival the Rio team as the strongest ever.
Because there are 6 medal events in WAG, so if the selection committee isn’t as stupid as Tom Deforestation, they will pick the right team to maximize medal potentials while fulfilling the team need, instead of just going for domestic AA rank order that was brutally and partially reversed in Tokyo.
@@cocoroni1031 makes so much sense. Thank you.
@@cocoroni1031Look Tom wasn’t my guy at all but in Tokyo the team was made up of only four people. You needed all allarounders. Simone pulling out in team competition proves why that choice was made. Now that Paris is back up to five people you can have 1-2 specialists now.
@@meowski617 Yes, they needed all arounders in Tokyo. Except that the top 4s are not actually the top 4s. Tokyo judges literally reversed the whole rank order after top 2. ROC was really underestimated when three showed hyper consistency on bars, and three could hit 57+ AA domestically and internationally. USAG needs to learn that mistake and do not widely inflate scores. But lessons aren't learnt.
For many winter sports, the selection and appeals process is well-documented. It most likely exists due to so many lawsuits, arbitrations, and not filling spots in skiing.
