    A Surface Go 3 with a dual-core 10th-gen i3 with UHD graphics 8GB RAM and 128GB storage is $750 USD with the type cover. The OneNetbook 4 has a quad-core 11th-gen i5 or i7 with Xe graphics, up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. You can get the i5-equipped, 8GB+256GB version of the Netbook 4 for $1,000 USD. That's just $250 more to get a significantly better SOC with active cooling, twice as much storage, and Thunderbolt 4, not to mention a form factor you can actually use comfortably on any surface (unlike using the Go's kickstand and floppy keyboard).
    Sure, the Platinum model here is a bit pricey, but it's still far from a bad deal relative to the specs and form factor - there's nothing else on the market that can offer the same combination of performance and functionality in this size.
    For me, the Netbook 4 is the culmination of every netbook enthusiasts dreams and represents what netbooks always aspired (see what I did there?) to be. They werer ahead of their time, but their time has finally come.

    Sadly all I can think of is just how much better it would be with a Ryzen chip instead: I could forgive it on a large, beefy laptop with plenty of thermal room to maneuver but Ryzen is just so much better than 11 gen intel chips for this tiny form factor, hard pass.

    That $1400 price tag is just way, way too much. And if you added the cost of a thunderbolt eGPU dock and 2080ti, you’re looking at nearly $3000 for, lets be honest, sub par performance for that price tag. You’re better off getting a slightly bigger laptop with a dedicated GPU built in for 1/3 the cost. You mentioned the other day a MSI laptop with a GTX1650 built in going for $500 on an early black friday sale.
    In conclusion, you could just get a $500-700 laptop and a baller desktop for that price. And have better performance on the go and better performance at home with a dedicated desktop.

      There's nothing that is as capable, as portable or as powerful for that money. The only thing that comes close is the GPD Pocket 3 and it is a chunky boy with an 8" screen and a very compromised layout for the keyboard and trackpad.

    Have this one (not the Platinum Edition but the Core i5 version with 16GB/1TB), I think there are some issues one should mention
    1) This supports the Surface Pen, which is fine for note taking. For drawing the line wobble might be too much (as typical with N-Trig digitizers), though it's much better than on the One Mix 3. However, the larger issue is that it doesn't support simultaneous Touch + Pen like other devices. They've needlessly implemented the worst kind of palm rejection: when the pen touches the screen, the touch input completely turns off for the entire screen (regular palm rejection only does that for the area near the pen where the palm would rest on), and needs a few seconds to reactivate after you move away the pen. This is really annoying for drawing when you are used to moving/rotating around the canvas with multitouch.
    2) In tablet mode, the touchpad doesn't deactivate. The keyboard does though.
    3) They did release some weird kind of Win11 upgrade tool, but be aware that this laptop doesn't have a BIOS with TPM activated (the CPU would support it, as it has Intel PTT), so I am guessing that their Win11 upgrade script (you can't use the official way via Microsoft - it says Win11 is not supported due to lack of TPM) does some of those workarounds that were floating around. Not sure how legal that is.

    • @nickthaskater
      @nickthaskater 2 года назад +2

      One Netbook confirmed to me on Twitter last week that they're releasing a BIOS update to be TPM 2.0 compliant for Windows 11.

      @@24Osx that is also an option, yes. Liliputing tested this with Linux.

    • @gebauzchris
      @gebauzchris 2 года назад +1

      @@nickthaskater I asked them over a month ago and they said they would release information on Oct 20 but they didn't. Later the information they posted was that "Win11Tool" which seems to be a script hacking the Win11 ISO (and installing it onto the recovery partition). That upgrade path will completely wipe your stuff.
      However, that Win11Tool can't be found on their website, they promised to publish more info on it on Nov 9 but didn't.
      I did find the Win11Tool on a japanese site though. And as I said, it's not a BIOS update.

    • @gebauzchris
      @gebauzchris 2 года назад +2

      @@24Osx Not exactly the point. The point is that this doesn't support TPM (due to it not being exposed in the BIOS) and therefore doesn't really officially support Windows 11.
      What does Linux have to do with that? That you can run Linux on it is pretty much duh.

It'd also be good to see some relative tests with similar machines compared to one another, even if it's just on charts and graphs.

    Great video! I would love it if you could add latencymon testing to your test suite. A lot of laptops I have tried in the past have had poor dpc latency (makes your audio crackle in audio programs), which can be a massive deal-breaker when it comes to making music on a machine like this. I'd love a little netbook like this for making music out and about!

    • @thatchinaboi1
      @thatchinaboi1 2 года назад

      DPC latency (spikes) are caused by bad drivers and OS. Try a custom Windows 10 1709 install with NTlite. I have an average max DPC latency of around 25ns on my Ryzen workstation and I am getting around 3ms RTL over Thunderbolt with my Presonus Quantum 2626 using a buffer setting of 64 samples.

    • @spmusicc
      @spmusicc 2 года назад

I more meant that a lot of windows laptops out the box come with crappy drivers that can't really be disabled without losing key functionality like WiFi or fingerprint login or something. I think many people would benefit from buying something that has low DPC out of the box. Thank you for the tip though, I'll look into that.

    I have the old Platinum ONEmix360. I love that computer, but mine came with an issue where sometimes the screen bugs out when you flip it to the backside. NOW, I took mine apart and couldn't see any issues, re-pasted the CPU as well and it still happens periodically. Leading me to believe that the ribbon for the LCD is near the CPU and if it gets hot, it affects the signal integrity. And that little guy (at 8n) can get hot. Also, this one should support MPP 2.0 like most of their products do.

    The size alone is definitely a nice throwback to netbooks era, just that it is beefier. Personally, I would rather have a 11.6 inch laptop with 1080p screen than 1440p/1600p for slightly larger screen yet with powerful portability without sacrificing battery life. Sure, the laptop is not going to blow you away with specs since it is not powered by Ryzen CPU that are meant for gaming but those who are looking for laptop that are sufficient enough to run applications, play emulated games & easier to carry, this would do the job done. Once the price is right, I can always buy external GPU for gaming boost.

      @@nickthaskater Being better than a bad product, doesnt make it good, it just makes it less bad
      Back in the beginning of 2020 i picked up a tablet with AMD 4600u for $549
      Now i dont know what the price is here, but if its under $500 i might consider it

      @@nickthaskater lenovo Flex 5 2020, and i was wrong, 4500u not 4600u, it doesnt have hyperthreading, but its still faster than the 11th gen u series processors. We have a few 11th gen at work in some dell laptops, as well as some 4750u from lenovo, that were cheaper than the dells, but had 8 cores instead of 4

      @@denvera1g1 4500U is a 6 core/6 thread chip running between 10-25W with a boost of up to 4.0GHz. I doubt it's appreciably faster than the i7-1160G7 in anything other than a seriously threaded workload.
      The Xe graphics in the i7 will also be better.
      The Flex 5 in general is a worse machine, with a much lower quality screen and slower RAM. Not to mention it's a relatively massive 14" and more than twice the weight. It's also a 2-in-1 so I'd hardly call that a "tablet." Lacks USB 4/Thunderbolt 4 as well.

      Even a Surface Go + type cover costs more than that, and it only has a dual core i3 with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.
      The base OneNetbook 4 with a quad core 11th gen i5, 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage is $1,000 USD.

    The selling point is the form factor. Imo this is almost twice the price you should pay considering the specs and intended use case of this device, but i'd like to see more devices like this at a more reasonable pricepoint. Earlier this year i got my dad a 2 in 1 Lenovo with a i5 1035G1 that honestly is already more than powerful enough, but if the 1035g1 already requires the fan to ramp up quite a bit on a larger form factor i don't think this device here will be very quiet.
