  • Lisa Gade reviews the One-Netbook One Mix 4, also called the One-Netbook 4, a surprisingly good 10.1” Windows 10 laptop with 360 degree hinges, touch and pen support. At 769g, the laptop is easy to carry anywhere and the 10.1” screen is just big enough to not drive you crazy. This is a fairly premium computer with a CNC aluminum casing, Intel 11th Gen Tiger Lake Core i5 and i7 CPUs, Intel Iris Xe graphics and 8 or 16GB dual channel RAM. It has an M.2 SSD, and a QHD+ display with 16:10 aspect ratio. It has Wi-Fi 6, Thunderbolt 4 / USB-C 4, a microSD card slot and a backlit keyboard. This is the product page: www.1netbook.c... .

      unfortunately the only way I can see that happening anytime soon would be if Microsoft goes the same way as apple and builds in a properly configured x86 emulator into their ARM builds - until that happens, along with a commitment to putting a lot of resources into supporting ARM and making it a smooth experience, there's just going to be a slow crawl towards it, years and years from now we might have enough assorted developer support to have it make sense. maybe.

  • @gebauzchris
    @gebauzchris 3 года назад +13

    Got one recently, there's some issues I've found that people looking to buy it should be aware of:
    1) My main gripe as a pen enthusiast is that they seem to have implemented a kind of brute force palm rejection - essentially totally turning off the touch input when the pen is near the screen, and having a huge delay of several seconds after the pen is removed to reactivate touch. Normally it shouldn't be a problem to have simultaneous touch and pen input (as artists are used to move the canvas with one hand and using the pen with the other), the touch reactivation delay really hurts the pen experience. Palm rejection usually does not need to be implemented in this brute force way.
    2) While on the topic of tablet mode: sometimes in relatively rare cases the keyboard does not get deactivated when flipping over to tablet mode. But the touchpad never gets automatically deactivated when flipping over to tablet mode (meaning you can still move the mouse cursor when the touchpad is at the back of the device. There is a hotkey to deactivate the touchpad, but this really should be automatic.
    3) While the Tiger Lake CPU should have an integrated TPM chip, it's not activated and there is no option to do so in the BIOS. As Windows 11 looks like requiring TPM, currently this device is not Windows 11 ready. I would probably wait with purchasing until One-Netbook resolves this problem (I wrote to them and they said they are working on a soluation, probably a BIOS update?).
    4) The keyboard tactility is not excellent like it was on the previous model, the One Mix 3. The keys need to be hit dead center to register, and are kind of mushy (like, they kind of wobble around the tactile point). Wish they'd had the keyboard like the One Mix 3.
    Otherwise the device is pretty excellent, the portability really sells it.

      Thanks for the responses. I’d rather not Chromebook and I would love an x86 netbook at about the $300-400 range. Specs aren’t important, just enough to do what I need to do while traveling. My options are limited but that price point is appealing. This would be ideal and I would take a 1080P non-touch, no backlight, limited ports, w/ TPM, 4 GB - 8 GB purpose built to travel with. The Go isn’t priced right (should be far lower) but using that as an example. Obviously Chromebooks blow them out the water but that’s the Google ecosystem I don’t want to fully get into.

    As the owner of a Onemix 3pt I can understand why someone would see the size silly or inpratical, but this is not a blanket statement that always sticks. I love mine. I work on as I would on my desktop. The size of it means it is easy to take it commuting, etc. Considering that it has touch and pen support, it really is worth the asking price. The batteries are replaceable as well. I do think that the 10" machine will be much more practical as you mention for most people. I just am commenting that the 7-8" version are also well done and are very very useful.

      @@nickthaskater Yep, that's what people call fiddling. Feel free to do it until the cows come home and drain your phone's battery as an added bonus. And don't forget to deactivate your Wi-Fi chip and use a proper dongle. The computer connects automatically after the first time you set it up.

    • @nickthaskater
      @nickthaskater 3 года назад

      @@Noodles.FreeUkraine what dongle are you talking about? Why would you deactivate wifi?
      It's literally a one time setup just like connecting to a wifi network for the first time. Thereafter all you're doing is tapping a button on your phone and that's it.
      I use my phone to tether for hours on end with negligible hit on my phone battery.
      You're hilarious.

    Interesting little machine. Seems like it'd be nice to have when a tablet just won't do.
    If you needed something small to just dock and use a regular keyboard mouse and monitor, the TB ports would make for a clean compact setup.
    Would work really nice for a student.

      Like the old gen N-Trig pen tech, passable but not great battery life, the keyboard keys one has to depress quite far and the trackpad that's a little awkwardly small for gestures? In my book, those are downsides.

    It's a nice netbook, the price is a little steep. I can't wait till something like this comes down to the $500 price range. I like the fact that it has a true SSD port and not EMMC and 8 GB of RAM.

    I really like the appeal of compact powerhouse like this netbook, but $1,159 for i5/16GB LPDDR4X-3200 RAM/512GB storage from One GX's official Aliexpress store? Sorry, but I'd think very seriously about buying an Intel NUC Performance or a 14" laptop with Thunderbolt connectivity instead.

    Can play FIFA 21 (720p without lag) at least?
    Please answer, thanks in advance!

      Here is a video playing FIFA 21 on a similar setup:
      ruclips.net/video/bNpO0BkWmb8/видео.html
      The laptop in the video will likely have better cooling (due to it being larger) but I don't think 60FPS at 1080p is out of the question on low.
      720P should be medium or high at 60FPS.
