    I love the implications of the KVM module. It would allow you to diagnose a physical server or client without it being online or remotely accessible. That seems very useful to me.

    Big enough to touch type, small enough to sling and climb a ladder. I'm not configuring Cisco switches and HMI devices up in goofy places like antenna towers and crane cabs these days, but for those who do this is perfect. Seems kind of spendy for a 4 core Jasper Lake, but it is a specialized device and they aren't going to sell millions of them. Is it durable?

    This reminds me of those early 2000's tablet PC's that used to have swivel screens which rotate and fold back on the device. Was very popular among brands such as Dell XT, Toshiba Portege, HP TX, Fujitsu T series and so on....

  • @_Digitalguy
    @_Digitalguy 2 года назад +4

    The device looks nice but it's not pocketable now that they made it bigger, at this point the max would make more sense, but they said this one merges the pocket and the max, so the max is discontinued.... Forget using this on your lap if you don't have a table, it's too small...
    But above all in the past GPD has been using low quality battery cells, and their batteries tend to die after 1 year or 2... That's what happened to my pocket and I have seen tons of comments saying the same.
    At 2 pounds there are 13in laptops that have a much more usable screen and keyboard and even LTE...(which GPD stubbornly refuses to add in this device, because "it's not a mobile device")
    So this is pretty niche, for someone that has a bag that could not fit a compact laptop, or else for field technical staff

    • @lapinus
      @lapinus 2 года назад +2

      the win max is not discontinued...
      if you meant the p2 max, then yes, that series is probably discontinued
      and also, GPD has switched battery provider for at least 2 years

    • @_Digitalguy
      @_Digitalguy 2 года назад

      @@lapinus yes, I meant the pocket max since this is a pocket. I see too many recent comments about batteries going bad to take a chance on the new battery provider of GPD

    I would wager the mousepad placement would suit a confined space well (e.g. on a bus or train seat) - I'm a little confused by the positioning of the model, is this the one that's primarily intended for field technical staff as opposed to the more consumer oriented pocket PC?

    • @AnTran147
      @AnTran147 2 года назад

      The technical one was the MicroPC. It looks like GPD decided to just merge the two target markets into one device to have less products to have to keep track of.

    • @davocc2405
      @davocc2405 2 года назад

      That's a shame in some ways, I have been able to pocket my tablet (8.4" Samsung Tab S) but it's very thin, this isn't. I have carried pocket computers since 1984 so I look for this ability, it makes incidental use that much easier.

    • @mowtow90
      @mowtow90 Год назад

      @@AnTran147 The MicroPC has the serial port build in which is good but it dosnt have the KVM option.
      This is the difference between the 2. I think they could go all in and targeted the IT work because a small PC like that is Godsent for SSRs and Sys admins. It pretty much saves you from having log a massive KVM trolly and a bunch of serial adapters around. Or having to pay 400-700 USD for a crash card.
      I think what they could of done better is put the serial port as build in and the modular part to be:
      1. USB ports (like they have)
      2. HDMI +USB in (like they have)
      3. VGA + USB - quite a lot of OEMs still clinge to VGA on new severs even today... + The endless clients that keep 10+ year old servers still in service. Since the new laptops they are issuing us have only HDMI , not both anymore , we have to bring adapters in our backpacs.
      4. NIC - 1 or 2 eth ports. Man I dont know how many times I would of killed to have a lapop with more ethernet ports instead of having to bring a small "Plug and pray" switch or eth to USB adapters in order to connect to dual controller systems.

    cuz some of us stay in cold rooms
    & even better
    a fanless device with passive cooling
    same as surface pro 7+ i5

      It is shockingly cheap, especially when you consider how small their production runs are compared to any major laptop manufacturer.
      You have seen the specs, right?
      DDR4x, not DDR4. 2.5G Ethernet, not 1G. 16 not 8 gigs of ram. Wifi 6. Extremely bright IPS panel. And the CPU is the top spec i7 in the class, 5Ghz boost.
