You're brave for trying this place out. The first and last time-in fact my only time-to the same place, was back in 1991 when it was The Aberdeen Steakhouse!! Went in there with friends for a pre-theatre dinner. About 10 years later there was a programme on the telly showing off the kitchens of these places-rat and mouse droppings everywhere🤢. The Slug and Lettuce nearby is a bit cleaner but their steaks aren't that great either. Glad you're feeling a bit better 👍
OMG! I went to an Aberdeen Stake house in Paddington around that time. We walked out because of the filth. The waiter’s uniform was filthy, the cutlery and table cloth absolute dirt. Some years later it featured on a documentary tv programme about rat infested restaurants. I wonder if it’s the same one as yours?
English Country Life OMG-I completely forgot about the one in Paddington! And for a reason-I ended up with gastroenteritis after visiting the one in Paddington and it was a long time ago....around 1986/87. Went there with my mother and late step-father. Could've been Garfunkles, but I think it was an Aberdeen steak house. Seems redundant to me to re-brand it as an Angus Steak House (nearly spelled it 'Anus'🤣!!). The one I was initially talking about was the one on Charing Cross Road. I find it quite concerning when the reviews on Tripadvisor etc are 4 out of 5 stars. TOURIST TRAPS!!
As a Chef at the 5* level, sorry to hear you were sick first of all. In my opinion the sickness could either be the Prawn Cocktail or the peppercorn sauce as it contains dairy products. With the steak itself very unlikely as the bacteria tends to be on the outside. And both the chips and sad onion rings are deep fried so again unlikely. From looking at the fillet when you cut into it, it did look dry so maybe a " reheated " steak ???. Anyway a place I would never go to .
True, but I highly doubt it was the prawn cocktail unless it was stored incorrectly for extended time after purchase as he said it was in date, also it was from M&S - enough said. I would bet it was that restaurant
@@matthew6994 To be fair, this restaurant probably gets through meat really quickly so doubt it's old food. Why think M&S have better hygiene than anyone else? Humans are humans!
Okay London prices aside - I am a catering butcher in leeds, and i sell to restaurants and hotels (better places than that shithole) and rarely would you find an 8oz fillet steak for less than what you paid there. They would, however, have much more flavour, and be cooked better. Those fillets of beef you ate are almost certainly imported from Brazil or Venezuela. That's not what made you ill, what made you ill was them using beef past its best.
Straight out the freezer that Fillet, it looked a very old piece of meat, no meat juices flowing from it. Chips and onion rings, frozen. Not a good experience for you. Good Vlog again thank you 👏👍🍺
This fella is a legend . He has a cool sense of humour and is honest in all his reviews. I hope his channel keeps doing very well and look forward to more content from him . Best of luck from Dublin bro.
To be honest I’m ‘apprehensive’ that you considered going medium well for a fillet…the fillet is prized for its tenderness, at med well it’s not going to be tender. It has no fat present to render and help retain moisture and most fillets are ‘barrel cut’ meaning they are deep and narrow. Therefore to get med - med/well takes a good while on the grill too. I think you should try med rare next time and ask the chef to give it a ‘heavy rest’ so that juices don’t run. Or if you like med - med/well go with a ribeye!
The meal looked fine. The chips looked golden and crispy, as did the onion rings. The portion sizes were okay for an expensive restaurant. The steak came exactly as you ordered it (medium, slightly pink in the middle). It looked juicy enough as you cut into it and there were juices on the plate as you were doing the thumbnail......Why on earth there are low scores and negative comments by the viewers is beyond me, they were obviously jumping on the negative bandwagon without really being honest and were marking it influenced by your comments. We can ONLY judge by looks and as i say, it looked fine.....I agree about the garnish, it looked an afterthought. So i'd give it an 8.5 on looks. Fillet steak, although the most expensive cut, is in fact one of the least tastiest due to lack of fat content, so that may account for lack of flavour. It may also be the case of the restaurant buying cheaper quality meat which may have affected the flavour and came across as dry. However, the chips are just fried potatoes and the onion rings just onion in batter. No fancy marinades or rubs to influence the taste in any way......so i'm not sure you can blame the restaurant for that, they can't physically "remove" any of those vegetables flavours by the cooking methods used. Perhaps, although unlikely, it was again due to the quality of the veg used. All in all, the meal looked visually okay, and whether you can blame the restaurant for lack of flavour is up for debate.....so let's not be unduly harsh i say :) x
I ate here years ago before I knew it was a tourist trap. Most UK residents know not to eat there. Even though Miller and Carter are a glorified Harvester, they are miles better than the Angus Steakhouse.
The steak can't be the issue, but you said you ate prawns earlier in the day, if I ever felt sick and looked back what I ate and got to prawns, that's the culprit!!!? In fact last time I got food poisoning It was after a Chinese, special egg foo young 🤮🤮🤮🤮
So Lee as a chef I went under a lot of training for food hygiene and poisoning.if it was the prawns you would have been ill within a short period of time depending if they were on the turn, poorly refrigerated and badly stored. Now the steak meal was a low hazard meal. My bet is on the prawns being incorrectly stored. Your bad stomach started after steak meal but you didn't get violently ill till later in the night. Basically the shit steak meal didn't sit well on top of bad prawns mate. You are now better off not eating much clear yourself out and then only eat a light meal to give your stomach time to heal. Best of luck. Please let me know how you are ok

This is like Jackass and you keep enduring pain to bring us another episode. I am already very worried for you eating at the Palace again. Such a brilliant and honest London review.
If you buy a steak in Australia it automatically comes with either chips or salad or both, you don't have to pay extra for that. that is a rip off, did they charge you for the use of a knife and fork as well.
Definitely the prawns. I’ve had some bad experiences with M And S sandwiches. Found a caterpillar in one once. As for the Angus steak house. Went in the 90s. It was so bad we refused to pay. Couldn’t eat it . They tried to stop us leaving and threatened to call the police. Didn’t end well for them! We left! I believe they changed the name because Aberdeen Angus is a recognised seal of quality for beef from Aberdeen Angus cattle. Clearly not sold in this steak house therefore fraudulent.
As a Londoner I'd rather go to a local cafe or even Wetherspoons than an Angus Steakhouse for a steak. They've always looked grim and must survive on tourism alone. I'd give it a 2 for the service you got.
Was in Joseph Else in Nottingham today and watching you do your review.......You had so much time for the man next to you with his daughter!!!!!! Your a credit to you tube and all round nice bloke......All the best!!!!!
Thank you for that. I'm so glad I sold up in Canary Wharf in 2003 and moved to France. In comparison I can get a four course meal at my local restaurant... e.g. charcuterie starter, steak frites main, cheese board, sweet, carafe of red wine and coffee. For 13€. And it's perfect. And no projectile vomiting.... 😨
F all out of 10 from me. Food that tastes of nothing is an immediate red flag, had that with a restaurant abroad as a child, everyone who ate it went down with terrible food poisoning, nearly ended up in hospital. Very much doubt it was the prawns. I’ve never had an issue with M&S.
Them onion rings looked remarkably like Aunt Bessies frozen onion rings and they are tasteless and the frozen chips £1.29 for 5 kilo's from Farmfoods the fillet steak did it state it was from a cow or perhaps it was from an old Buffalo from the wild west you never know it is london after all
You never go into central tourist places for food unless its a cafe. They have to churn out food constantly for droves and droves of tourists. Its always busy so can you imagine they don't take time to cook food or clean etc because they are always tending to more people. I always ate on the slight outskirts of London in the more quieter places that were still somewhat "Central Londony" Places like Chalk Farm/Primrose Hill, Hamstead Heath or Angel.
I've passed this place on my trips around London and wondered what it was like so thanks for sharing 👍. There is nothing like a good steak and it seems this was nothing like a good steak ! 😋
Lee you're a real trooper! I used to always go to the 5th Quarter Steak house in Louisville, KY on every visit. Then one time two of the three of us got terribly I'll. Never have returned to that restaurant. I hope all your viewers take note and make the smart decision. Wish you better health soon. Motown Mike
I went there years ago on a family treat and it was a treat because in those days steak was a rarity. I was just impressed to go up town and to young to know what was a good steak and what was a bad steak. I could probably count on one hand the times Mum and dad went to a restaurant in those days , just didn’t have the money . I’m talking in the 60 s . Restaurants have to be good these days because if they’re not they get found out.
I wonder if restaurants are trying to circumvent the new Laws for sharing tips. Call it a 'cover charge'. Just Eat have done this with CARD charges Law change.
20 minutes is a bit quick for a dodgy belly to develop. As soon as you said you’d had prawns for lunch I thought “oh...” I know which one I’d suspect no matter how poor the steak was.
Although It's a shadow of its former self the Angus/Aberdeen/American steakhouses still make a mint. The Germans love them and they're always packed to the rafters. The former owner was a Turkish chap a personal friend of the late Paul Raymond - the famous racketeering soho property magnate and a friend of Michael heseltine. The pampas fed beef was usually imported from Argentina but I doubt that it is the same today but there is no restaurant chain in the UK that makes as much money as this group - which in the Seventies, were also owners of a wimpy style of chains known as the Golden Egg. For the Scandinavians, Dutch and Germans It's the place to be when visiting London. It's their resthaven since NE's do not trust the exotic cuisines on offer in the neighbouring Chinatown. Whenever I pass their restaurants I go berserk because they're the only places where the clientèle are always s 100% white Anglo Saxons - which was the same for another chain of restaurants named Garfunkles. It's not about Racism it's just that the NE's do the same things year after year. Windsor Castle during the day, afternoon tea at the Waldorf and a pre-theatre slap-up at an Angus. Then off they would go to the talk of the town or the Whitehall theatre so see "No sex please we're British" - They can't help but they love each others company! 30yrs ago the steak would have arrived with grilled tomatoes and mushrooms, watercress, Hollandaise sauce and guarfrette potatoes before one even ordered a side dish - creamed spinach, French fries, ratatouille or cauliflower cheese- thats all. The onion rings would have definitely been a no-no in those days. Both the brothers that originally owned the chain have probably passed by now - if they're still alive they'd probably be spending their days sitting in a chair dribbling at both ends. But a meal in a Aberdeen steakhouse in the Seventies was mist certainly a treat!
It's an embarrassing tourist trap, always has been for decades. I've managed to avoid that restaurant and others in the chain for 50+ years thank heavens!
Lol, I’ve eaten there in the past when it was the Aberdeen steakhouse. The steak you ate probably dated back to 1968 when it was established. Great content as always and yipppeeeee. The states have reopened, we will now get some amazing restaurant reviews. I’m off to California over Xmas. Enjoy your trip my friend.
These Angus Steak Houses have too much competition nowadays from the likes of Gaucho and Hawksmoor who cook steaks so much better. £24 for a tasteless filet steak is a rip off!!
I have ALWAYS wanted to eat at an Angus Steakhouse ever since my first visit to London Town in the 90s. It has always been on my to do list, I don’t know what it was that drew me to them… But after this video, not any more! I am so sorry to hear that you experienced illness (whether the fault of the steakhouse or not) but that has put paid to that for me, and fair play to you for going through what you do in the name of vlogging.
I’m staggered that Angus Steak House is still in existence. I went to one in Soho in about 1975 and even though I was a naive teenager I could tell it was crap. I suspect they survive on custom from the least discerning type of American tourist. Of which there are plenty in that part of London.
I would lean toward the prawn cocktail that made you sick. When you cook into your steak it did look a little tough. Maybe some A1 steak sauce would have helped. Give them another go with DJ. See what DJ thinks of this steak house. I hope your feeling better.
Glad I came upon your channel, watching them all now, from Scotland so liked the fish and big brekie ones. A while ago I discovered the art of cooking steak and have never looked back. Used to overcook it as seen here but getting it right is key even if it has a bit of blood. Anyway keep going and look forward to other ones.
Make me laugh 😂 these guys, but you learn a lot from the Mac & Darren on we’re to eat, and not to eat, they make the mistakes for us so we don’t make them and of course they will find you and tell you some of the best places to eat!! Especially in London! Great video Mac!!
I've not eaten in London before. What exactly is a service charge paying for? And why isn't it encoporated within the food price. Is it advertised anywhere that they add a service fee?
A service charge is an optional addition (usually about 12.5%) to your bill which is for the service you’ve received. You can ask to have it removed and not pay it, but generally speaking you should only request that if your service has been bad. It’s normally mentioned somewhere on the menu and it replaces the tip.
Nice one Lee - 2 reviews for the price of 1 (M&S and Angus)! I'll avoid both! By the way, stayed and ate at the Sizzling Stone, Keswick, - it was off the charts! Jason. Alison and staff were fantastic. Highly recommended Cheers, Tony and Rita.
Another good video from the MacMaster and also earlier on from Darren John, what a treat keep up the good videos Lee, Take it easy and you and the family keep safe my friend,
Poor you, you were really struggling to eat that steak, fillet steak should just melt in your mouth. Great you tried it, no taste any of it, don't know why it was so busy. Great review. 👍
Thanks for the heads up about this place, you can't be too careful about seafood though, so don't rule out the prawns especially if they had the sauce on! Hope you are feeling better.👍
I went here and was shocked that I had to pay a cover charge of £1, which when queried with the waiter it is £1 to be taken to your table. I got my own back by not leaving a tip.
The MacMaster - I hope your feeling a bit better now ! I had some great fish and chips at the Anchor Inn , Seatown yesterday evening . With best wishes from Dorset
Prawn cocktail ? You are more likely to get sick from seafood than from a steak. A girlfriend ate some scampi in a restaurant, 2 weeks really sick, almost a month before she could eat normally again.
That was a ridiculous price for a poor steak but don't be too quick to rule out your lunch as the stomach upset culprit. Myself and my wife were both very sick after having (in date) sausage rolls from the chiller of the same establishment and a colleague at work had the same after a sandwich platter. My guess is they sometimes have poor control of how quickly produce gets loaded into the chiller cabinets after delivery.
Coming from a Chef that steak looked raw in the middle the garnish was disgraceful the onion rings were frozen not fresh and the chips were cheap frozen crap and the sauce !! Omg looked like it was gone off by the consistency of it 😳. 1/10 from me 🤮
Great video as usual, A number of things did you eat any of the watercress "garnish" as watercress is very good for giving you the old Ralph & Huey, Also I was amazed how fast that girl was on her scooter at the start amazing.🤮🤮🤮

The onion rings and chips looked to be from frozen. You'd expect home made at these prices, but it is London after all. I've had some horrific food bills in London.

If you buy a steak in Australia it automatically comes with either chips or salad or both, you don't have to pay extra for that. that is a rip off, did they charge you for the use of a knife and fork as well.
Why do you think there was a cover charge?
Definitely the prawns. I’ve had some bad experiences with M And S sandwiches. Found a caterpillar in one once. As for the Angus steak house. Went in the 90s. It was so bad we refused to pay. Couldn’t eat it . They tried to stop us leaving and threatened to call the police. Didn’t end well for them! We left! I believe they changed the name because Aberdeen Angus is a recognised seal of quality for beef from Aberdeen Angus cattle. Clearly not sold in this steak house therefore fraudulent.
How long does it take to get sick from food poisoning?
Symptoms begin 30 minutes to 8 hours after exposure
As a Londoner I'd rather go to a local cafe or even Wetherspoons than an Angus Steakhouse for a steak. They've always looked grim and must survive on tourism alone. I'd give it a 2 for the service you got.
Was in Joseph Else in Nottingham today and watching you do your review.......You had so much time for the man next to you with his daughter!!!!!! Your a credit to you tube and all round nice bloke......All the best!!!!!
Thanks David. Thank you.
well UK has nothing apart from beans and fishcips.
Them onion rings looked remarkably like Aunt Bessies frozen onion rings and they are tasteless and the frozen chips £1.29 for 5 kilo's from Farmfoods the fillet steak did it state it was from a cow or perhaps it was from an old Buffalo from the wild west you never know it is london after all
love the videos. Thanks for putting your life on the line for our entertainment. God Bless.
Tourist restaurants are notoriously poor Lee.
If you don't see a cab driver in them, stay well clear..😃
You never go into central tourist places for food unless its a cafe.
They have to churn out food constantly for droves and droves of tourists.
Its always busy so can you imagine they don't take time to cook food or clean etc because they are always tending to more people.
I always ate on the slight outskirts of London in the more quieter places that were still somewhat "Central Londony"
Places like Chalk Farm/Primrose Hill, Hamstead Heath or Angel.
Motown Mike
Coming to USA in November. Keep an eye out. 👀 😊
My wife had prawns from M&S she was going to the toilet every 30 mins for 24 hrs will never get them again
Fair play for marking it down. Should have said "Don't you now who I am?
20 minutes is a bit quick for a dodgy belly to develop.
As soon as you said you’d had prawns for lunch I thought “oh...”
I know which one I’d suspect no matter how poor the steak was.
I'm amazed at the price, I'm in Australia and you get a great steak dinner for aus$40. I wouldn't dream of paying aus$90 for that
You cleaned the plate, it couldn’t have been that bad. I’ve had a lot worse, inedible worse.
Once walked by one of those places - the bulb had gone in the 'G' in its sign - you've never seen an electrician move that fast..
Lol. 😂
I walk past this every other day and I have never thought I will go in there to eat. I definitely will never eat there after seeing this.
Thanks. I'm off to LA also. Might see you there. 👍🏼
These Angus Steak Houses have too much competition nowadays from the likes of Gaucho and Hawksmoor who cook steaks so much better. £24 for a tasteless filet steak is a rip off!!
The whole thing looked iffy Lee! Hope you are feeling better. 🥰🌞🥰Xxx
Seen these steakhouses all over the place. Never once been in one. After watching this, I never will either.
Sorry to hear of your upset tum hope you feel better hope to go to Tenerife in January might see you.👍😎👍😎👍😎
I have ALWAYS wanted to eat at an Angus Steakhouse ever since my first visit to London Town in the 90s. It has always been on my to do list, I don’t know what it was that drew me to them…
But after this video, not any more! I am so sorry to hear that you experienced illness (whether the fault of the steakhouse or not) but that has put paid to that for me, and fair play to you for going through what you do in the name of vlogging.
Try hawksmoor if you visit London. Just if regent street and pre-theatre menu about £24
@@xxlairdy1106 I’ll make a note of that, thank you
I know what I'm going to say is heresy, but filet is the most tasteless cut
If your gonna rate a steak house ,ribeye or strip steak
I’m staggered that Angus Steak House is still in existence. I went to one in Soho in about 1975 and even though I was a naive teenager I could tell it was crap.
I suspect they survive on custom from the least discerning type of American tourist. Of which there are plenty in that part of London.
Just remembered there’s one right opposite Paddington station, to entrap the poor saps the moment they step off the train from Heathrow.
Onion rings are frozen same with the chips and the steak is cheap 2 for 10 pub steak served it for years when I was younger vile food.
That’ll be the prawn cocktail! … steak , chips Onion rings washed down with alcohol is highly unlikely
Orders a fillet... Medium well...
Food poisoning takes at least 16 hours, by the way.
More likely to be the prawns for your sickness. Although the steak didn't look very appetizing.
My money would be on the peppercorn sauce. Looked congealed to me so wouldn’t be surprised if reheated a few times.
Highly recommended
Cheers, Tony and Rita.
Never visit a restaurant that has photos of the food on the menu 👍🏼
Exception is Chinese restaurants
Another good video from the MacMaster and also earlier on from Darren John, what a treat keep up the good videos Lee, Take it easy and you and the family keep safe my friend,
The amount of times I walked past that place and it was full to the rafters I met thinking I should pop in. THANK GOD I DIDN'T!!
Will steer clear of these Angus Steak houses!! Thanks for the review Lee
40 quid for oven chips, frozen onion rings, tasteless steak and packet sauce. Jings man.
To be honest theres more chance of it being the prawns than the steak
Def that prawn cocktail mate...only takes one prawn 😂
Prawn cocktail ? You are more likely to get sick from seafood than from a steak. A girlfriend ate some scampi in a restaurant, 2 weeks really sick, almost a month before she could eat normally again.
Crazy it’s next to the top rated steakhouse in London aswell
That was a ridiculous price for a poor steak but don't be too quick to rule out your lunch as the stomach upset culprit. Myself and my wife were both very sick after having (in date) sausage rolls from the chiller of the same establishment and a colleague at work had the same after a sandwich platter. My guess is they sometimes have poor control of how quickly produce gets loaded into the chiller cabinets after delivery.
That steak had been under a heat lamp. For med-rare there should have been a lot more juice when you cut it.
Coming from a Chef that steak looked raw in the middle the garnish was disgraceful the onion rings were frozen not fresh and the chips were cheap frozen crap and the sauce !! Omg looked like it was gone off by the consistency of it 😳. 1/10 from me 🤮
Looks like a fire damaged Hockey Puck on an over sized plate.
Great video as usual, A number of things did you eat any of the watercress "garnish" as watercress is very good for giving you the old Ralph & Huey, Also I was amazed how fast that girl was on her scooter at the start amazing.🤮🤮🤮
OLD MILKING COW MEAT WITHOUT FLAVOUR, DRY AND CHEWING GUM LIKELY.
ONION RINGS TASTING LIKE HOSPITAL MEAL.
TO THIN DRY FRIES POTATOAS..............MAC DONALD QUALITY
The onion rings and chips looked to be from frozen. You'd expect home made at these prices, but it is London after all. I've had some horrific food bills in London.
Before you said where it was , I knew what you was going to say, it's staff are mainly illegal immigrants who all live in digs the restaurant owns, it's only for silly tourist with no idea.
You can tell the bubbles are from the laser imperfections from the bottom to maintain head
Silly tourist? You mean the ones that bring revenue into the country and aid businesses to stay afloat. You should pick your words wisely
Very expensive if you take in the chips, sauce and onion rings as extras
I’ve never had a Stella last that long.
Thats what I thought. Macmaster is obviously no wife beater.
You were reaisticly honest...Good to see DJ handsome face !!!
