Bruce is one of my faves. But it's hard to overlook so many others. Bob Dylan and Stevie Wonder come to mind. I think Stevie is the greatest American musical artist of all time
Johnny Cash's songs will be playing long after we are gone. They'll speak to generations that haven't even been born yet. Thank goodness for the technology that allows this!
I lay next to my man in the nursing home where he resides now... for 30 mins today... Just touching him, and feeling his skin... I was on fire. Regardless that he is fading... He still sets me... on fire.
@@brendahawkins3965 Hi Brenda, your grandson does a very awesome performance of this great song. You are such a wonderful grandmother. Congratulations to your whole family. Greetings CD
Bruno Santos Hey, when John Cash covered a song he actually owned it. He literally delved into a song and gave it his own charismatic signature. Simply GREAT !! /CD
Cash became a favorite of mine after hearing my father playing his records in the 60's. My father had a small record collection and played many to point of wearing them out. Maybe that's why its been a big part of my life.
Johnny rules!!! The original Goth King. The Man In Black. I respect him so highly. He was so brave for a man of his age and that era. Rest in Peace Johnny. God Bless.
I heard this rendition some years ago. I thought it was alright ... all of the sudden, its the most beautiful, honest, expressive and haunting piece of music that I can recall. I can’t stop listening to it. I guess you need to go through some shit to really GET Johnny Cash.
Thank you for sharing this song. This song speaks to me and I love Johnny Cash. I can also relate to John as i am also a recovering drug addict. I am on fire. This is my song. Got anymore please share
Johnny Cash, when he first came to Nashville, went to get voice lessons. After the first session the instructor told him, and I paraphrase, "Don't change a thing." Thank God.
Hi, I remember another Version of this Story. Johnny himself told it in an interview with Ralph Emery. His mother arranged singing lessons for him at the age of 14. The teacher told him after the 3rd lesson " just do it always your way. There are no more singing lessons necessary " . And that he did. Greetings CD RiP Johnny CASH.
Johnny Cash epitomises the very best of the human spirit. His music will be played until the end of time, his story is that powerful that it resonates with so many of us, the very best people you are likely to meet in life love Johnny Cash, it's no coincidence. Rest easy JR
You can always see the love these two had for each other. It's like they were the only two in the room whenever you saw them. Just love Johnny Cash and June.
This version by Johnny touches something deep within me that Springsteen’s version does not and cannot!! It is pure emotional beauty that transcends pain only Johnny can project. Thank you Johnny Cash!
@@jphillipsf Mainly lethargy. I wasn't _actively_ looking for it day in and day out. This was at least 4 years ago, but I'm pretty sure when I first looked it up, all I got was the Bruce Springsteen version, and the same with the following attempt, whenever that was. And then I stopped looking for a bit I suppose.
Johnny can really take anyone work and make it equally great if not a little better, no one could pull of Springsteen emotion and feeling like Cash did!
johnny cash had a very sexy voice,,ever thing so real about johnny 's singing ,I just loved his singing ,feel in love with his voice at age 11years old ,first song I ever heard him sing was the rebel johnny Yuma.
That is your opinion. Every big star took on drugs. And Cash is such a big legend. No compere. And this version is the best. You have no idea why johnny took on drugs for 10 years. But for the last 30 years of his career he didnt took of drugs. When he sang this song he lived a life. That is what you hear. All the emotions. He is the greatest musican ever.

There are many painters, singers and performers around this sorry world of ours. But there are very few ARTists, ARTists are people who are able to convey and evoke real feelings and meanings through their medium- be it song or otherwise. This "art" can be summarized in one simple, yet complicated word; "soul". Mr. Cash is one of those artists who, for lack of better words, could make you feel connected to him personally. It's a skill I'm intrigued by, as it so rarely surfaces anymore. Maybe it's because our modern world has become more superficial, maybe it's because we simply don't seek to be connected in the same way because it leaves is exposed and vulnerable. It's all very sad to me.
je suis francais de 55 ans j adore cette chanson que j ai decouverte il y a tres longtemps chantée par bruce springsteen mais la version de cash est pas mal non plus
Springsteen wrote the song in 1982 than released in 1985. Johnny Cash covered it in 2000 for the Badlands: A Tribute to Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska Album. :)
If you ever read this Ben, I really like you and feel a connection with you. I should have talked to you more but I'm terrified of rejection plus I feel guilty because I have a boyfriend and you have a wife but I have always wanted you. I see you! I see all the hard work you do at work and all the stress you face on a daily bases. (Family, your grieving wife, work, anxiety, depression, Louis...) Keep going! You can do this! I wish you every happiness and I'm proud of you! You're so fucking cute and have such a beautiful soul. I'm so sorry for not being there for you! I'll always regret it. I see how much youve been working on yourself and how much better at handling stress you have been. I appriecate everything you do! I've always wanted to give you a hug, especially on the days that looked the toughest on you. I understand if you hate me though, just had to get it out somewhere even if I made up this delusion in my screwed up head 💗
Its funny, I kinda feel the opposite way but for the same reasons. I feel like the original is a much sadder, lonelier song. We know Johnny got to be with the one he loved and I feel like his love for June is really evident in a lot of his music. When Bruce sings it it feels like he’s singing about something that’s just out of reach, like a dream you know won’t come true but you can’t stop thinking about it. I dunno maybe that’s just me
A testament to Springsteen's songwriting talents to have a singer of Johnny Cash's caliber cover his song.
Monumental piece. Some songs were written for others to master. The beauty is in the secret beauty of music.

Yes! I listened to Hurt over and over and over when I first heard it and I can tell this is going to be the same!
I think it's beautiful how much him and his wife loved each other!
In my opinion, Springsteen is the greatest American singer/songwriter ever. This cover blows my mind! Transcendent
Bruce is one of my faves. But it's hard to overlook so many others. Bob Dylan and Stevie Wonder come to mind. I think Stevie is the greatest American musical artist of all time
Smokey Robinson singer song writer co founder of Motown IS the greatest without doubt time will prove me right. But I love Bruce and the LEG Jonny.
Johnny cash is the king of country music. Once he covers a song it’s not yours anymore
I didn't know dead people could do a cover !
Only one of these suggestions for greatest singer songwriter has a Nobel Prize. After Dylan everything else is children’s music.
The great Johnny Cash. We do miss him.
