This was such a surreal experience. I'm so glad I got to share it with you ❤. Next year, we'll aim even higher and go even further. With love, Your favourite face-planter 😅
There's something almost hypnotic about watching the routesetters climb it in almost perfect synchronisation at times with the calm music in the background.
This is so cool and love Rotimi's whole attitude and vibe about exploring!! I was working the Saturday of the festival in Canary Wharf but my office window faced the back of the wall and I was gutted I couldn't watch - thanks for posting this Hannah, I feel like I got to come along in a way!
Oh my god Hannah this editing what the hell this is insanely good. Like not just flashy editing, it has personality! I had some instant reminders of the Wes Anderson short you made, the hours you put in are so evident!
Terrific video Hannah and all those involved. Pushing our limits and boundaries are part of the sport. Great job on getting outside of your comfort zone and doing this, not just being a journalist and telling the story, but actually doing the climb itself. Look forward to next years to see how much further you get up that wall.
Thanks so much Chris, I’m actually so psyched to see if I can work on my endurance for another go at a DWS comp in the future - it would be such a fun goal. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I really loved the editing right before you began climbing. The shots of the public transport with loud whirring and quick cuts quickly followed by the whistle and silence depicted how I feel before events that give me anxiety or adrenaline perfectly. Really put me in the moment!
Brilliant story-telling as always! You did such a great job of building tension - my heart was racing and my hands were sweating for you! Well done on leaning into the new experience 🎉
Ive been having some focus or motivation problems watching climbing stuff rn but i can almost always still finish your videos, love your energy andnglad you're around while i wait for my brain to chill
Always enjoyed your channel, but your recent videos have been top notch and this one is continuing that trend. The stellar editing makes for a lovely and immersive viewing experience, but the stories you're choosing to tell have been so interesting and engaging. Great films, great storytelling
Well done. Climbing is such a huge mental game; if you ask me, you play it very well. You are fighting against your fears and conquering the next "field" step by step. Also, I spotted Elaine Anklam (Lainy On the Rocks) at the beginning. For people who don't know her, make sure to check her out. She is a fantastic routesetter.
I keep watching this on repeat! What an awesome event. Hope they repeat it next year 🩵 You are so freaking brave Hannah! I felt sweaty and slightly nauseous just watching 😂 🦋🫣
Hi Hannah, I've been following your videos for a long time, and due to lack of time, I haven't been on youtube much lately. Now that I'm back, I see the tremendous evolution of your channel and of you as a climber and in other aspects. I used to leave comments on your videos because honestly, I find them brilliant. You do such a great job with camera work and editing (these words are for Nathan too!), not to mention the varied and interesting themes. In this video, the comment I want to leave you with is: Keep making your videos and pushing your limits. You really inspire us all.
I really appreciate your kind words - it’s so nice to know that you enjoy the content on the channel. It’s super important to us that it shows climbing for the great sport that it is and hope many cool experiences it can bring! Thank so much for watching ☺️
I loved attending this event - the friendly atmosphere and buzz of the crowd helped to make the day a fun one. Good to see you get on the wall Hannah, hopefully see you next year! 😊💕
Well done, Hannah. What a great video. It really showed how hyped you were for having a go. You were jigging about with nervous energy all the time. Looked scary but fun 👍
Video quality is insane! Intro reminded me of Mellow for some reason haha. So cool you got to climb there and definitely seems scarier than it looks just seeing it on instagram. Really captured the feelings/emotions of the event.
Great video Hannah! I was standing just to the side on the barge and just couldn’t fathom climbing to that height. I’m nervous enough three and a half metres up a comp wall!
If you ever end up around Charlotte, NC back in the USA, the Whitewater Center has a permanent DWS complex that’s open late Spring - early Fall. I would definitely recommend checking it out!
Its not dirty although it is cold. Canary Wharf water is aquifer fed - not from the Thames. I do open water swimming there and you can see the bottom 8m below
ok you should totally dws traverses in Malta. it’s like 1-2 meters over the water and can be 50-100 meters long. if you need a climbing holiday that’s the place to go
You probably know it and the issue been solved perhaps, but just FYI youtube had some major problems with the words free solo in any from, Magnus had some real problems after doing videos with Alex because how blacklisted it was.
I think he may have had problems with his recent DWS video too. It had no adverts for a few days, so possibly demonetised. He hasn't said anything though
The docu style videos are so good. A good insight in to the otherside of how the psyco bloc style comps run. For me, it would be a solid no in even pulling on to this thing!
Hahaha I think it's so they can see where the surface of the water is. Otherwise with a slick surface it's difficult to judge distance to the water. It's done in competitive diving comps!
I had never heard of this sort of climbing before, seems bonkers, but also really cool. I assume the guy with the squirtgun is there to break water tension when the climber falls? Also, when Hannah came out of the water it just struck me how much chalk was being dropped in the water with the climbers, that's kinda bonkers, chalk is cheap, but still a lot of chalk being flushed away xD
Couple or reasons I think - to break the surface tension of the water to reduce impact and also to provide a bit of a target for falling climbers haha!
I heard platform divers saying it does not break surface tension but gives the surface texture so you don’t misjudge the distance. They also said underwater bubblers are used to break surface tension.
I have seen free water solo comps where they actually break the water tension using big bubble blowers. Strangely they didn't use that technology here.
Fantastic video! Watching the setters climb in synchronicity was hilarious! Were you the only woman invited though? Can't ignore the insane gender imbalance in this :(
Thanks so much! The competition did have categories for men and women to compete and watching the women compete was SO incredibly cool. We climbed and filmed on the media day ahead of the competition - for sure more guys, but it was great to have Lainy (Lainy on the Rocks) crushing alongside me on the wall that day too ☺️.
Whats with all the drama and making this a big thing? Its a bit of weekend fun, not an olympic final. Any competant climber shouod only worry about how sucky it is hitting water from a fall over 10 metres.
The medic checking on Rotimi because of the 7 meters fall... talk about overkill lol. I wonder if they cancelled the Montreal event because of bad falls, Ive seen and experience so many bad falls at that event haha
@@hannahmorrisbouldering No, it's not. Free solo is climbing with no protection (fall-death), the water serves as a form of protection. Cool vid regardless though!

Whats with the hoses? Is the water not wet enough ;)
I think it's to break up the water tension on the surface, to make things safer for fallers

Toby Segar "Storror" I see you lurking !!!!!!
Seeing that one of the main ways down is jumping from the top, not for me lmao. Though I guess lowering with the ring I'd be fine with.
Lowering from the ring I think was still a decent drop into the drink, but agreed, if you had to jump I’d be out (even if I COULD climb to the top 😂)
You did really well!
Thanks! It was a great challenge 🤗
what do you estimate each colour's grade at?

Madness. Who’s keen to enter next year? 👁️
I think you? 😅
Nope but I want to come and watch it!! 🎉
Well done you…very brave!
Just a question does the water do anything to your shoes?
It took them so so long to feel fully dry again but I don’t know if water has a bad impact on the build of the shoe itself!
This is a hell of a first "lead" climbing experience to get you interested in the regular version haha
Haha in at the deep end. 👀
9:46 for a splitsecond I thought this was a different clip
what for is the spraying of water before someone fell?
I think for a couple of reasons, to break the surface tension of the water and to give the falling climber a spot to aim for!
Any idea why the fire hose?
To break the surface tension of the water and for aim!
How hard are these?
i wouldnt be jumping in the water with the current state of thames water
What a fun experience
It really was!
I want Rotimi’s physique….great video Hannah❤❤❤
Haha climber GOALS! Thank you, glad you liked the video.
is that river clean enough to swim in? lol
Probably not.
Well, Thames is probably cleaner than ever, but still not clean lol
Sometimes it's good to take a short break from climbing and cleanse the bowels
There is open water swimming in the Canary Wharf docks so it can't be too bad.
Im not sure what the details are, but there is actually a area where people can swim in the thames near the east side of london.
Careful free solo is the forbiden word on youtube
anybody with the necessary diving or engineering knowhow to explain what the point of the hose spraying water on to the river is?
Couple or reasons I think - to break the surface tension of the water to reduce impact and also to provide a bit of a target for falling climbers haha!
I heard platform divers saying it does not break surface tension but gives the surface texture so you don’t misjudge the distance. They also said underwater bubblers are used to break surface tension.
I have seen free water solo comps where they actually break the water tension using big bubble blowers. Strangely they didn't use that technology here.
nice vide, but why do the water hose the water?
I think it’s to do with breaking the surface tension / providing a spot to aim for landing!
I'm jealous.. so cool
What's the point in watering the water?
It breaks the surface tension so it’s not such a ‘smack’ when you hit the water 🩵
I don't know how people have the bravery to free solo. Especially over the Thames.
I really don’t know how people jumped from the top! 😶🌫️
at 56 i sure would like to try that!!!
So much fun!
Crazy that you have me and my fear of heights beginning to consider this

'16-metre'. In the UK a meter is a measuring device, not a unit of measurement.
The majority of our audience on RUclips is from the US, so we typically use American-English, just like we use V grades. 🙂

Saying "free solo" in the title and video is misleading. You should have said deep water solo
DWS is a subtype of free solo. Sorry if you felt misled. ☺️
