    Excellent. There's a certain "clumsy elegance" to these WW1 birds. Love it.

    Surprised that the Bristol Fighter held together till the end

      The Bristol Fighter was a remarkably tough aircraft for the period, and was highly regarded not only by its crews, but by its opponents. It was fast, as fast as most single seaters, and surprisingly was as manoeuvrable as any save the most manoeuvrable single seat fighters of the day, such as the Sopwith Camel or Fokker Triplane (both of which it was much faster than).

    Hey thunderbat, just subbed. I am currently looking at buying a new computer and a vr headset and am wondering what headset you use. Much love.

      Oculus Quest 2 is what I have. Cheapest you can really get, especially if you get it used like I do

    You're cinematic camera work is top notch. Curious how you got the angles of the gunner in the back seat around 02:34? I've always struggled to get decent clean inside the cockpit shots.

      The backseat gunner is one of the vehicle cams. I also find that he disappears in VR when you get your headset too close to the backseat gunner

    Nice, congratulations for 1k, here is for the next 99k :) Yet another fabulous video,but Jezus, what did the Huns put in Archies breakfast?
    This was deadliest AA i've ever seen in Flying Circus, on what settings do you run PWCG? Is that what happens, when you put Archie to the Max? (I think I have to have it on the default setting, for FPS reasons)
    Speaking of AA, I don't want to see anyone here being mean to my Boy for calling it Flak instead of Archie. :D Today's a day for celebration, not pedantism. :)
    Also ThunderBat, two things, first have you read "winged victory" by "V.M. Yeates? Amazing book by a Camel Pilot, it's fictionalised, but based on his real life experience. There are loads of other great books (Richthofens "red battle flyer", Rickenbachers "fighting the flying circus", A.G.Lee's "open cockpit" and last but not least James Norman Halls "high adventures" (the books of Rickenbacher and Hall go good together, since they new each other and rickenbacher writes about Hall in his book, so it gives you an outsiders perspective on what happened)
    But winged victory was the best for getting a feeling for the reality of it all. If you havn't go give it a read. (All of them are available as Audiobooks as well, guess you know where)
    And secondly: Is your name inspired by "Thunder Cat", the Bass player?

    • @ThunderBatSims
      @ThunderBatSims  Год назад +1

      IDK about the AA, I usually run PWCG with AI numbers on pretty low settings. The amount of AA surprised me , it was brutal.
      I never read many WW1 history books, but wined victory sounds pretty interesting, I'll have to check out the audiobook.
      I am a bass player, but Thunder Bat was just a dumb name that MGSV generated for an NPC, and I've been using it for a while now

      @@ThunderBatSims Ah cool, it's weird how many of my favorite Youtubists turn out to have a musical back ground (I play guitar and bass).
      Also yeah, if you can find the book, or have an audiobook sub, give winged victory a spin. It's amazingly funny at points, but really brings you down to earth at others, some times in flames. You can get a really good feel for the life of an RFC (later in the book RAF) pilot, but unlike with Rickenbachers or Richthofens book, it's not written by a war hero or super ace with an unnatural sense for adventure and duty, unlike in those books, there is no mention of "a heroes death for the fatherland" (Richthofen and Rickenbacher talk about this stuff all the time) it's just about some guys, somewhat torn between their love for flying (and their friends) and the fear of getting killed next or losing yet another friend to senseless slaughter, the terror of ground attacks and the horror of ending up as a flamer.
      And another really good one is "High Adventures" by Jim Hall, he's the dude who wrote "mutiny on the bounty" and so on, he reported his story via letters to newspaper, while in France, and that's the book. It's pretty short and you can find the audiobook for free on youtube. I think it's about 4h in three parts. Half the book is about the pilot training with the french (utterly interesting especially if you compare it to what you read about the training of the other air forces in other books, like Richthofens or the RFC training described in winged victory) and the second half is about his time in the famous "escadrille la fayette". And just like winged victory it's written with a very nice sense of humor. But they all are, Richthofen and Rickenbacher as well, all those guys seemed to be pretty funny and chilled lads, really a shame, they had to life through this mess (or die).

    You bombed an empty railway station, destroying French infrastructure with no apparent affect on German forces. That this once lovely example of la Belle Epoque architecture was completely empty of people or material was briefly visible minutes before you began your attack.
    This kind of mistake, ironically, is exactly why the French were so resistant to any bombing at all. Perhaps you'd like to target some dams or hospitals next?

    • @ThunderBatSims
      @ThunderBatSims  Год назад +1

      The train station was a sympathizer and was punished as such

    • @cyberfutur5000
      @cyberfutur5000 Год назад

      But what if Hitler was in that train station? :D
      No, you are 100% right. The attitude from pilots in the RFC and later RAF towards ground attacks (at least with many camel pilots, who had to do this stuff a lot during ground offensives and 1918 there was a time where all camels had to have bombs with them on any patrol into "Hunland") was often like: Let's just drop my Boombs some where, where it "smells Hunish". Just drop it somewhere over the line, where it could maybe hit something. As long your flight leader wasn't in for winning the war on his own, that seemed like common practice, given the utterly high losses compared to the minimal benefits (especially from a pilots perspective, the folks in the trenches might have seen it different)
      So it's not really surprising, that the results are as you said.
