I love your channel and basic principles for throws. No excessive ridiculous intro, just clear, concise information and what you need to learn the throw. Thank you.
Exactly! Thanks for watching!
This is the best channel for learning the essentials steps to each throw. Very simple and straightforward great for newbies. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
This move is very similar to the head and arm throw i use in my wrestling matches. it is a risky move but great for taking down heavier opponents
Thank you very much. Student from Sydney, Australia.
We just finished O Goshi in our class. Almost everyone has mastered it!
Great! But remember, learning a throw is the easy part, learning how to set someone up to be thrown is the difficult bit.

efficient and excellent. already adapted it to nogi in my head.

I wish there was a BJJ channel that was taught in this clear way
Thanks, it's something I've been thinking about for a while, but I feel that the BJJ video landscape is pretty saturated and mainly driven by personality channels. Maybe if there is demand for it, I'll spin up a sister channel.
Thank you for this education, thanks to your video and channel i was able to O-goshi my 96 year old teacher after she gave me a C, it was so effective she still hasn't got back up and that was 17 days ago!! :)
I'm pretty sure thats against the Spirit of Judo.
I just learned it today

I have my yellow belt test tomorrow and these vids really help me thx😁
Good luck!
How did it go?
@@EfficientJudo sadly it got delayed until after the holidays but thanks for wishing good luck😄
@@EfficientJudo I passed my test almost perfectly thank you so much
I am southpaw...i trap the left arm from stance under my left arm pit deep...right foot across to just past his left ankle...hip to hip and o-goshi throw... because i have Ju jitsu belts as well..after throw..i still have his left arm for arm bar...with knee on ribs
I have today a exam for the yellow belt thanks for the information
Thanks for watching! Good luck!
Good job

thank you!! this will help me in my judo exams
Im left handed so I am usually in a Southpaw stance, figure this throw will be great

Thanks for subscribing!
Please keep these up!
We will! Thanks for the support!
Love the video. I am quite tall, would this be a suitable technique for me?
Nope, because you have to get below your opponents hips. But O-goshi is one of the basic throws in Judo and also a stepping stone to many of the other Koshi-waza (hip techniques) in Judo. So keep doing it!
if performed properly it's entirely fine you just have the disadvantage that in many throws you need to focus on lowering yourself extra compared to average height people.
I'm 6 ft 6 and can only do the Tai-Otoshi. My hip position needs to be too low for most people that I go to throw and my knees don't handle it. Learn Tai-Otoshi.
can you make a video on judo classification? That would be great help
What do you mean? We already have our compilation videos that break down the techniques into their classifications and we also have the playlists that do the same. What would you be looking for the video to explain?
good lessons, thanks!

What is differece between O gotshi and Seoi NAGE, i see seoi is much more difficult
@user-gx2kb1on2e they're completely different throws with different mechanics. O-goshi is a lifting hip throw, whereas with Seoi-nage you use your hand action to load uke onto your back.
This technique is very useful and versitial. Youre opponent can be wearing nothing and you can accomplish the throw with simply his arm or other appendage
Its one of the basics!
My instructor said o-goshi meant “big butt” XD
Well O means major / large and Goshi means hip - so its not that much of a stretch to translate it as big butt!
And I cannot lie...
I once met a lady with a ogoshi
She was nice but didnt appreciate that i was appreciating her ogoshi.. :p.
Thank you sensi

feel like I'm doing something wrong, the opponent always feels so heavy, and I'm unable to lift him up
You just need to practice, and develop your technical skill and understanding of balance.

Question I’m a bjj guy so I won’t know the names of any of the variations but could you take a belt grip instead of the one on the back ?
You can, but having control of the back will generally allow you to close the space better. Also for beginners, using a belt grip can, in my opinion, encourage them to try and use the arm to lift the opponent rather than using the hips, which makes for a less efficient throw. I guess the question back to you is why use the belt?
I don’t know why, but I really struggle with this technic, I’m a bit taller so I think that’s the reason why
In randori specifically or even practicing it statically?
@@EfficientJudo practicing, i have the feeling i miss power while throwing. i still dont use the move very much in randori, because i dont master it fully

I didn’t know Ashton Kutcher was a black belt in Judo. I thought he was just a fake BJJ brown belt.
Can I alter it to throw bigger opponents?
What do you mean? What do you need to alter and what problems are you having?
@@EfficientJudo My sensei said that there is alternate judo throws.
@@danterobles4819 to alter a throw means changing this one - to use an alternate throw would mean using a different throw completely - if you feel your opponent is too big to throw with O-goshi, try using a throw which doesn't require any lifting - something like a tai-otoshi
@@EfficientJudo is it important to memorize the throws names?
@@danterobles4819 Yes and No - the names of the throws describe the mechanics of the throw (with a few exceptions). Most people will pick up the names over time, and I don't think people need to study the names outside of hearing them in class. I'll also say that the names are quite simple once you understand the various words that make the names e.g. Otoshi means drop - so you know that every technqiue with otoshi in the name has a dropping mechanic to it. E.g. tai-otoshi, seoi-otoshi, uki-otoshi, sumi-otoshi. There are not that many words used for naming techniques.
Can you install a video about the ( o-keme
Do you mean ukemi / breakfalling? We already have demo videos for it and have a plan to record a video with more detailed instruction.
But if you lift the opponent off the feet while tossing, isnt that called something else other than ogoshi?
Im not sure what you mean - there are lots of different throws in Judo where you lift the opponent off the ground, here we're showing O-goshi.
Goshi means waist in Japanese
Most people are right handed though, and I would say pretty nice form, but uhm, your legs are supposed to be in an oval form, and bent a lot, and you should step back that far
It's about the right throw for the right situation - if both people are the same stance then trying to force an O-goshi isn't necessarily going to be the best option. The throw comes more naturally from a opposite stances.
@@EfficientJudo using cosuci will help to force in that throwing way, right, when their coming at you?

@@thebeaniekip Okay.
I thought grabbing the back is an unconventional hold
No - unconventional kumikata are things like pistol grips, pocket grips, belt grips, cross grips and same sided grips. In a kenka yotsu scenario, its common for both players to be holding a grip around the back - you still need to keep the attack rate up, like you do with any grip in IJF rules. And even so, unconventional gripping is allowed, as long as you attack quickly.
