This is the only move I knew as a kid, but trust me it was enough to get rid of any bully. In a split second they were on the ground and myself on top of them. Nobody bullied me twice. I didn't know it was called Ogoshi.
Did it still work well even though they weren't wearing a gi?
@@matthewjameson8809 not a judoka but wrestler turned grappler, it works fine without a gi.
@@hungryorphan5975 Thanks man. What do you mean wrestler turned grappler? Do you mainly focus on bjj now?
@@matthewjameson8809 yeah WE use as gréco-romain wrestler
Hip throws work well in any situation my brother is military and we was wrestling g around and he hit me with one and I didn’t even know what happened when I hit the floor it was kinda confusing to go through lol awesome move
I don’t do judo but in jui jitsu there are many elements and sometimes we start standing and I was always interested in judo bc the smaller man can take down the bigger man using momentum
Same here. Some dude threw me over his back during a roll so I came here to learn how.
Judo is jiu jitsu
@@bobross3937 lol same
Facts, i weight like 67kg and flyed an 94kg guy with a morote seoi nage, had to do the knee variation btw haha
I can throw 115kg.. And my weight is 65 only.. More of my students are 45kilos.. They can do the same... 🥰
Most judo videos only show the technique straight up no details. This is good content 👍
These guys are just training and after 2 minutes there breathing really hard. Imagine a MMA UFC fight. This sport takes so much discipline. Respect to you guys. This stuff is is not easy.
I personally prefer using Harai over Ogoshi but this tips would work as well, very cool
Great video, thank you! I didn't even know there was a running O goshi!
Tank you....master👊😎
Great video!
This was amazing
That running drive is awesome. Any way to make the hip grip stronger in no gi?
I love using single leg as a set up to harai or ogoshi...gets under punches and if they sprawl hard you can disengage without getting stuck underneath them..
@@brentluder9139 Could you like a video of what you mean? Im struggling to picture the transition from single leg to hip...is it a series of feints?
@@bigdoor64 ruclips.net/video/tE7kc8UIXFs/видео.html
Essentially that except with a single leg set up...
Make sure you pull the sleeve (wrist) towards the sky and rotate
slick , clean n cool
Yeah, this is very slick. These tips are great. I think he makes it look easy 😂!!! I've made a video about Judo Philosophy on my channel. Please check it out and let me know what you think 🙏🏾
Great video guys! You made a tricky move look simple by your explanation! Great job! Where is your gym? We wanna come train!
very nice. thank you 😁👍
Thanks!
good to know Han is still around after what happened in tokyo drift
Thank you
That help thanks
Can you recommend a location for Judo in New Orleans if you know any? Most of the places over here seem to focus on BJJ a lot more than anything. I want to do both. Thanks!
Thanks man its a really tough throw to finish especially when somebody is defending the whole match
What to you think about the split leg (Russian?) version? My old coach hated the traditional parallel foot version and always taught the split.
More no Gi stuff please! It's so awesome
This is a great video! Thanks for these tips!!!
Badass!
Hello, what tips for the footwork do u have for this throw? Do u put your right foot in front of your opponent's left foot or do u put your right foot in between his legs?
I did wrestling 285 class and I did a headlock hip throw like you explaining
I hit Ogoshi quite often during Krav Maga sparring. Go to the clench and Tie up the opponents power hand with an over hook, throw right hooks to their head, when they go to cover up your right arm goes around the waste and throw. I realize that isn't a judo scenario but for those looking to find opportunities to use judo in self defense this is one example that I have found works in free sparring. Yes there are ways the opponent can prevent the throw by doing a body lock etc., if they do it but many times their first instinct is to cover. Even those who have fallen for this move before I've managed to repeat it.
Great video ! Professor : can you shoot a video on "How to counter Judo throw" ? For example, if my partner use Osoto Gari or Seoi Nage to me, how can I do to counter it ? I haven't seen any DVD like that ...
I'll tell you, practice zhan zhuang for 30 min a day
Put your hand on your opponents hip and deny that seoi nagi like "not today"
In all Shintaro's technique breakdowns he tends to point our what will prevent the throw from happening, usually the opponent having a strong grip that prevents you getting close or applying the leverage you need. That's the defence.
Beyond that the counter is learn Judo (or Japanese Jiujutsu). There are techniques as you advance to counter these techniques. Randori teaches you this skill as you and your opponent are mutually trying to throw each other and someone is going to gain the upper hand.
for ogoshi what if he has a stiff hand would you jut hop on one foot?
My old TKD school used to teach the first throw. Always did it wrong. Stance way too wide and we were told to always keep our back up, tall, and straight.
And they wondered why it never worked...
That sounds awkward.
@@mmongiello722 Oh it was. I had started teaching it a more correct way (not perfect as I was never trained by a master of the technique). It created a big stir asking the other "Masters" and we proceeded to have a big debate that lasted a month. During that time, the owner called me over to demonstrate it on me for the assistant training class, and it didn't work. The debate was settled when the original Master of the school was with us and confirmed everything i was saying.
It was things like that that made me decide to leave the school.
@@wfTitus making you call them master was the first hint they had nothing to offer. Did your master wear spangled pants and go home to Starla every night?
@@mmongiello722 It is a Taekwondo thing unfortunately... The rank of Master is earned at 4th Degree black belt according to Kukkiwon. And Kukkiwon is the largest martial arts belt certifier in the world (which isn't saying much right now). I did receive a 4th degree in tkd, so techniqualy the students were required to call me master as well (despite my protest).
Interesting story, we were invited as an instructor and staff group to a jujitsu gym. I had taken jujitsu for a couple months at my local university, so had a uniform and white belt. When we met at our gym to carpool, I had shown up with my gi and white belt on. The other master instructors had their special instructor uniforms on, and were wearing their black belts. The older instructors looked at me in shock, saying things like, "I earned this black belt, and you can't take that from me." The younger staff (Not masters) decided to take their black belts off.
So we showed up at the gym and the instructor comes out with white belts for everyone to put on. The look on their faces was priceless!
Anyway, I'm starting my own gym now. Not a TKD gym. And I am not using the title of Master. I'm sticking with coach.
@@wfTitus did you get my napolean dynamite reffrence?
Since he cut his hair George looks like Kev from Shameless.
What if they back out when you did tip 3, can they?
Is it a different technique if you've got double under hooks? I almost always throw this with double under hooks
..Or if your opponent does not want to 'play nice' when you are in position - perhaps execute a fast and brutal Uchi Mata?
I love uchi Mata. It's my favorite throw!!
Is this legal in wrestling?
what is the concept of misdirecting?
The line between some of these Ogoshi and a Tsuri-Goshi are quite blurred.... but essentially they are very similar. I just think that if you already have that underhook grip on the belt, most of the time the opponent will be prepared for Ogoshi, so you will end up doing Tsuri-goshi or something different entirely.
How can I set up an ogoshi if my partner is in a BJJ stance?
@@andl4481 but that s not ogoshi.
Grab the tricep with left hand pull and step back with your left foot. Punch right arm over opponents head but down twords the mat as you throw hip across. Good luck...
@@andl4481 Yeah thats true, I like to do osoto a lot but I want to get better at turn throws
In general, you can't force a throw if the other guy wants to be thrown by something else. ;-)
Otherwise, try to put downwards pressure on the other guy. If he doesn't resist, he will end up in turtle position. He will get a penalty for that in judo, in bjj you might then go for the back.
If he resists, try to loosen him by reaping up and pushing down, together with some foot throws. When you offbalance the other one, you may find a short time where he is sufficiently upright. If he really wants to stay in this position, go for sumi gaeshi instead.
@@cerotidinon or just puff out your chest and they will pull guard.
I’m so old. I can’t get passed the blue Gis. lol.
I was wondering if you can or if you have done basic rolling throws. My daughter is currently working on her 2nd degree junior black belt in Goshin Jitsu and is struggling with rolling throws. She needs 3 and was hoping you can show how to do 3 simple rolling throws.
Awesome daughter!! I am goshi jujitsu trained. Danzan ryu jujitsu. We learn escrima judo jujitsu Kempo lau by my professor James Muro.
@@andrewvillanueva4222 awesome. I also train in Goshin Jitsu with her and my son. We also do most of what you do minus kempo. We do more shotokan based striking and kicks.
What exactly is a rolling throw? You may search for Ko uchi makikomi, soto makikomi, uchi makikomi
Or do you mean sacrifice throws like tomoe nage, sumi gaeshi, yoko gaeshi?
@@cerotidinon tomoe nage and ude gaeshi are what we consider as rolling throws. They also fall under sacrifice throws for us too but not all sacrifice throws are considered rolling throws for us.
@@WellnerMAG Then sumi gaeshi / hikkomi gaeshi should be a good third throw.
I broke someone’s collarbone one time. I felt super bad.
Dose everyone try throws sparring?
Grab his Mawashi lol

I thought I'm watching fast and furious for a second
This is perfect: i'm getting back into judo in about an hour, after years of being away
Do you like the Kani Basami? Is it actually useful? Have you ever used it?
Nobody does a flying leg scissor anymore.
It can work though.
He has a video on it. Don’t do it.
@@shannons1886 I would say, dont let anyone do it on you.
It's very useful and safe, only when 2 fighters understand that technique. Do that on someone who don't about know it, their legs are screwed, just like how traditional BJJ guys got reckt because of leg locks
Got hit with this today in a bjj class and my immediate response was "teach me that shit right now"
This dude looks like the bad guy on squid games

thought this was han from fast and furious...
no gi sensei please
All he has to do is adjust his grip and slide forward.
Yeah that's easy because you're shorter.. is it possible to hit throw someone who is shorter than you?
This is an O Goshi for smaller people throwing taller people.
The way you do it, won't work as well for taller people throwing smaller ones.
Your center of gravity is always below the one of your partner.

Now I'm starting to feel bad for George....
Guys, your hair is too long for this kind of workout. Strongly urge you to cut it real tight or even shave it off.
