    Awesome vid! I replaced mine without removing the wheel, just turned it all the way right. Also, was able to pull the tensioner with a regular 14mm combo wrench + a 1/2” ratchet plugged into the open end of the wrench.

      This comment helped tremendously. I never would have thought to do that. The 1/2 inch drive fits perfectly in the 14mm wrench and gave me the leverage I needed!

    Thank you for your helpful video on changing the serpentine belt. I just replaced the serpentine belt on my 2004 Honda CRV. I followed your directions, which are very good by the way, and got the belt off without too much of an issue. I did pull the two plastic keepers from the splash panel under the fender to give me more room to access the pulley and belt area. Putting the new belt back on was a little tricky, but I finally got it on. I referred back to your drawing of how the belt was routed. It was very helpful. I tried to put the belt on the top pulleys first and then install it around the crankshaft pulley last. It may have worked but that would have required another pair of hands (which I did not have) while another person was holding the tensioner. I verified that my new Gates belt was on all the pulleys correctly before starting the car. I took my time and spent a few hours doing this in the hot Florida sun, but I saved some money by doing it myself. Thanks again for posting your video. Good job!

    I took my 2005 crv to honda smith, they said $150 for the new belt and $74 for the labor. I bought the part for $44 and this video helped me replace it. Took me about 45 minutes to do it. I didn’t need to remove the tire tho, it was accessible from the bottom.

    Thanks for the video! Just replaced mine today. Was away from home so didnt have any tool but after seeing the video I thought was easy so went to oreilly and borrowed the serpentine belt tool. This definitely is not the right tool! Whoever trying to do it yourself please do NOT use the open end wrench for the tensioner. you will end up damaging the bolt. Would highly recommend the 14mm mountain ratcheting wrench in the video. I didnt have it so I ended up using 14mm wrench with the box end to the tensioner end the open end connected to the 1/2" drive handle

    • @kakakong
      @kakakong 6 лет назад

      Timing chain on this engine, not a belt. Theoretically a lifetime component but they do break from time to time, and sometimes the tensioners break, and then it's a real headache because it's an interference engine.

    Thanks a bunch for this vid! I did the same on my 2005 CRV and I gotta admit it's such a pain in the a$$ to work on these vehicles... Whoever designed that little room for working on this belt should be fired immediately. Your vid doesn't show the power steering line running RIGHT against the tension pulley with 10mm bolt holding it in place. You HAVE TO remove that bolt and push the line down in order to get ANY room in there. That part took good 2 hours in my case. I did not have the tool you used for the pulley but I did have a Canadian Tire rental tool handy and it still sucked for such a tight spot. Re-installing the new belt was super easy but getting ready for it and re-tightening the power steering line took me about 3 hours.
    Thanks again for the video!

    14mm boxed end on tensioner pulley and then a larger wrench ,17 on up, using its boxed end. Place box end onto the 14mm open end. Now you have leverage. Now take belt off.
    To put on route the belt and route it to were the last part to slip on is the power steering pump. Pull PS reservior foward, put wrench on tensioner, then while holding belt, slip reservior over wrench to the rear. Gonna be inbetween the hoses with the wrench. Next pull your wrench lever and start it on the PS pulley and then with a screw driver use the pulley's holes to pry the belt on all while rotating the pulley by hand down on the last bit and it will guide itself on.

    I prefer when doing this togo from top to bottm, then use the wrench from the bottom to de-tension and move the belt onto the crankshaft pulley. Easiest way. The 2006 has a very close clearance for the wrench from the top side.

    Watching your video, I got the same mountain wrench (14mm/12mm) and for the life of me, I cannot get the head on the bolt. It's too fat for my 2004 CR-V. The "knuckle" or whatever it is at 1:06 is too close to the tensioner that I cannot get the head around that bolt.
