I wouldn’t call it my favorite ending of all time, but Durarara's conclusion, while leaving many viewers dissatisfied, feels like the only one that fits. An ending doesn’t need to be happy, resolved, or even satisfying - it just needs to be right for the story. And if you truly paid attention to the narrative structure, the way the characters interacted, and the overarching themes, you’d realize there’s no better ending for Durarara than one that leaves us right in the middle of the action and the dead center of the chaos.
For me its Arcane. Well this is partially a lie as it has depending on definition 1, 3 or none ending atm. Thats because each act of season 1 feels like a point of no return. It feels like an end. However at the end of season 1 no character arc except for one is completed and still this completed arc left enough conflict for a new arc to emerge. What unites all of these endings is the fact that they aren’t what you were expecting from pop-culture fantasy/steampunk. What also unites them is that they overload you with emotions just to ask you one final question before everything fades to black. And the longer you think about these endings the more you realize that everything down to throwaway lines is found in these final moments of the arc. Everything that is relevant down to stuff that got mentioned once to characterize an entirely different character 8 episodes later. And then the music. Oh good the music is something I could talk about for hours. 9.11.2024 on Netflix. Season 2. Im hyped.
It's an obscure one outside of hardcore anime circles, but I adore the ending to Revolutionary Girl Utena. The entire show builds to this one grand moment--and then the protagonist fails. But the villain doesn't "win," because the way the protagonist affected the people around her, especially the deuteragonist, allow them to step into a new world they previously couldn't have imagined. Outside of that I don't want to say much, in case a stray commenter sees this and decides to watch.
Uncut Gems was on that films that made me overthink about the whole plot for a day. I've got horrified, but with a strange feeling of relief (Specially with that ending sound). Now, it all make sense why I felt that way
ngl you have a really good talent for youtube idk exactly how to put it but I don't see this video and think of someone with 15k. Keep up the good work
Another banger from you. I'm guessing you're a film major, like most filmtube creators, but you stand out, especially your sincerity. I haven't seen any film majors on youtube that were pretentious or anything, but a lot of them feel like they're preemptively defensive to avoid it, while you seem natural. Keep it up
This was another banger! Right at the beginning I had a lingering feeling about the quote “all stories need conflict”. Something about that didn’t seem correct, or at least, didn’t feel as universally true. Then, right when I didn’t expect it, you hit the twist! Keep it up big dawg
I think the perfect movie to fit both the 3 act structure and the 4 act structure is The Founder, starring Michael Keaton as Raymond Kroc. The peak of the story arc is a climax that Ray Kroc knew was coming and was working towards the entire movie, but for the McDonald’s brothers it was a twist that they couldn’t see coming and had no chance of preventing once it arrived. From Ray Kroc’s perspective, it was a 3 act structure, but from the McDonald’s brothers perspective, it was a 4 act structure. Between the flawless writing and acting, the historical set pieces, and the incredible soundtrack, it’s my favorite movie of all time. I would be ecstatic if you made a video about it.
You are amazing. I bet it Is so awesome to be around you. I was typing if you could possible dive into 4 act storytelling and then.... You did it! Loved it❤ I love your storytelling
You are such a good presenter; I look forward to your videos every time a new one comes out. Thank you for the great content! Also, you can thank spell check for the semi-colon lmao.
Yeah youre def gonna get subs quick feels like im early to a vid that gets hundreds of likes in seconds love your formula of breakdown it scratches a specific itch in my brain 🤠
The ending to The Usual Suspects had me calculating recalculating and triplecalculating. Really good ending to be honest it had me so hooked as I found out about who *was* Kaiser Sosing
I love ur videos Whoever the best video you can make is about AOT The best story of all f-ing time Don't get shocked by the ep count Its 19 minutes per episode Just watch the first 2 And i promise you can't imagine the ending Its not the average antagonist protagonist with a conflict No Its waaaaay deeeeper Its not a happy or non happy ending Not one where a conflict is resolved or is not Its waaaay deeeper Its written by a man that knew nothing anything about normal story writing yet he had a brain like non other
Me: "Spoilers for Uncut Gems? I didn't watch this movie but I'll keep watching the video anyway, after all every time I say I'll watch the movie first I forget to watch" Me after receiving the spoiler: "I... should have watched the movie first..."
Thank you for saving me the time from watching Uncut Gems. If I would have sat through 2 hours of that story just to see the main character get offed in the end, I would not have been happy.
I think it is funny that you are talking about the story of two characters who are clinging to what they think they want only for that not to be what they actually needed. I think this is funny because once again you bend the script into a knot to end with a meta shift in perspective using the preceding video as an example for it's self. Wile those scripts are incredibly fun to write and you should continue to do so when you are inspired to do so; those are not what make the video you've put on on this channel good, the strong coherent through line that fulfills a compelling thesis that exists in spite of the roundabout endings is what is making the videos on this channel so good. Not the big endings. I personally find your first two videos to be much more complete works as they fulfill their presented thesis without any muddling or cute rug pulls. Of course I understand it's not that easy and you can't just end every video talking about the masterpiece Attack on Titan and how it relates to quality art.... probably.... and that good endings are often the hardest to write. You strike me as someone who is well read who could easily construct narratives that can stand on their own without a wham line. Although those scripts might not be as fun to write. I'm partial to the ending of The Incredibles 2006 for both putting a neat bow on all the characters personal struggles and also as catharsis/validation for Bob's desire to be a hero.
@@brennantmi5063 I only went meta because the point of this video is specifically talking about endings. I don’t think I bent anything the movies stood for? I have been wanting to talk about how to end a movie for a while and I think these are great examples. Sorry if I’m misunderstanding what you’re saying, but I’m pretty happy with how this video turned out and think it serves its purpose well without ruining the example content

@@Squampopulous oh how come didn't you mention it in a plot twist video
