Being able to have a small setup like this that records to an external SSD is a game changer. What are your thoughts about this setup?

there is one thing i learned in filmmaking from seniors, show dont say.
i wish you made video showing things not just speaking.

What do you wish I had shown more of in this video?

I’ve only had one client that insisted on an iphone rig for some “day in the life” type content here in vegas. They wanted something that wouldn’t draw attention in restaurants and on the casino floor.
For tradeshows I found that the R6II with L series glass and a ronin is my best combo. Dock it on a monopod for booth interviews, detach for ronin b-roll. NAB and CES are the best gigs for reel material

Great setup for tradeshows! I'm finding more and more people requesting iPhone photos/footage in these situations. We'll see what the future holds.

It would be nice if you could include some of the videos shot w this rig so we could see the quality of the output

Thanks, Steve. This video was focused on the setup but I may focus on footage in the future. Lots to cover there!

How was the battery life recording for long periods of time at a conference with an SSD? Can you share a little more about the result - maybe some of the shots you were able get - how much total footage did you shoot with this setup - hours and/or Gigabytes - would you consider using a wireless lav like a Rode Pro to just mic people or yourself, and then sync the audio later - was this also your personal phone or did you have a separate iPhone to shoot with and then have your phone? if it was your phone - did you find any drawbacks from killing the battery or wanting/needing your phone - while filming with it?

Great questions. This video was focused on the setup but I may do a footage deep-dive in the future. Thanks for tuning in!

Kri, really interesting setup. Will the moments magnet securely hold iphone 15 Pro Max?

Thank you! The magnet is pretty strong. It should be ok but I can’t say with 100% certainty since I don’t have one to test.

Don't like the phone holder your using, One good bump and will disconnect. I use a Smallrig cage with and external SSD with a usb -c hub. I also mounted side handles and a PowerBank as well. I also have a gimbal setup as well.

Excellent video!!! Could you share what settings you use inside Blackmagic cam APP. I also use an iPhone 15 Pro with the APP connected to atem mini pro iso. My settings are FPS:30 SHUTTER:1/60 not sure whats the ideal setup. In my atem i also chose FPS 30. Let me know if you have a different advice as i am in the beginning stages before buying a Camera 📸 👍🏾

I also shoot in 30fps and if I’m recording to an external ssd, I’m typically shooting in log. Connecting to the Atem mini pro iso is a great idea!

Please please tell me, did u ever have problems with overheating when filming too long?
Also how long did you record externally at max time?
And is it only possible to record externally in „pro res log“ mode or is it also possible in normal video mode at 4K 60fps ?
I‘m so sorry for all my questions but it’s very very very important, thank u!🖤

Honestly haven't recorded long enough to give a sound opinion. I hope you find your answer!

Hmm…however, youtube actually can record on an external ssd within the native camera app on the iphone!

I stand corrected! Thanks for pointing this out. You can record externally using the native iPhone app if you are shooting in pro res.
