It's frustrating that everyone has to stand for either Brand, or for his accusers, and no one can simply stand in support of a fair, impartial, open, and objective system of justice. In my country, we have a famous list of wrongful convictions: Donald Marshall, David Milgaard, Guy Paul-Morin, Steven Truscott, Thomas Stephenow, and more. These names are familiar to every Canadian, and those cases used to be an embarrassment for our justice system, because they were considered a mistake by the imperfect application of an otherwise fair system. Now we have many people in government and other institutions stating that wrongful convictions are an *acceptable* *feature* of this new way that justice is done. That attitude will only lead us to ruin.

Fellow Canadian here that agrees with you. Those names you highlighted paints a picture of a not so long ago past. Negligence within the judicial system happened, which sadly leads to a number of injustice and unfair convictions at times. However, in these times, the judicial system is being used as a tool for censorship by the ruling elite to stifle any form of dissent. *They did it to Julian Assange...*

@@OurFoundingLiars Yes, and it's good to see that trend in the comments. However, I do have to consider how many are saying that because they already believe due process will prove Brand right, or already believer it will prove his accusers right. It is _essential_ that the motivations are not unfairly biased. It's okay to have some intuitive thoughts about a case, but neutrality must be the core starting point.
A question I have is why are media companies allowed to make a documentary on someone if there’s no charges? If they have evidence shouldn’t it go to the police first?
Because people are allowed to be interviewed and make claims as to their experience. They are not obliged to lay charges and go through the experience of a court process. They can publicly make claims about what their experience was. Russell can also publicly deny that these things happened. He has not actually done that. What he has done is say the 'relationships' were always consensual, he has not stated that all interactions and actions within those relationships were consensual, nor that the women are lying. He has been advised to simply ‘refute’ the claims without actually addressing them specifically. That’s the game of Law.
What it's looking like is that some of Russell's past behaviors have caught up with him from when he was exceptionally lusty and not exactly in control of his instincts.
If he wants to he could take the women to court and try to sue them for defamation, however, to do that he would have to prove that what they are saying they have experienced is not true and factual. The women were in relationship with Russell years ago and what the women are talking about is behaviors during those relationships which were not cool for them.
To talk and lie about their experiences would potentially put them at legal risk. It's not likely they are lying, rather simply testifying to their experiences, however, they could be. The story is that it was known for some time that there were particular women who had had bad sexual encounters with Russell, however, these journalists had to pull it together.
Russell has been badmouthing media and thus journalism and taking the high ground regarding 'questioning'. Russell beckons attention and takes the high ground with very generalized criticism toward mainstream media. It appears a few journalists have decided to expose something of his questionable behaviors in the past with women by bringing them together for interviews on Dispatches, a show that reveals things.

Putting together a documentary would take time ,its unbelievable that the media blasts this story on front page news & the main tv news ......and a week later there is a doco on Russell ,towards substantiating these historic allegations ,timing it to ultamately have maximum impact on his (not gonna happen) 'demise'. He has only ever brought to light what mainstream chose to omit & that ,to put it simply , blatently revealed actual & factual,intent to mislead and under inform the general public . With so many subscribed to his channel he became a threat to those that are guilty . It's obvious...... !!

The police often only lay charges after media attention...so the media is used to achieve justice. That's the way of the world
Even an innocent person gets a little excited when accused of something. I know when somebody accuses me of something my heart rate goes up my eyes get big and I really get upset and need to defend myself. It certainly doesn’t mean I’m guilty.

That is true, and a conscientious, serious body-language analyst will point this out and take it into account. It is dangerous for falsely accused or suspected individuals when the unknkowing crowd starts making claims without having the real training, experience and know-how. I know from 1st hand experience how dangerous and unjustified harmful it can be.
And nervous , fearful people often struggle with old shame, depressed, weakened people struggle with unjustidied,sick guilt.
These public trials-by-media make me feel like a little kid whose dysfunctional parents keep trying to pull me into their arguments and force me to pick a side. This one with Russell is especially heartbreaking-if it’s true, it’s heartbreaking; if it’s not, it’s heartbreaking. I had to step away from reading about it and told my partner, “I can’t deal with this. I’m just going to wait and see what Spidey says.” You are my warm blanket of objectivity these days, sir. I wish these things could just be dealt with through functional legal institutions. It’s emotionally exhausting.

As I have said when weighing the outside motivations for this whole thing objectively it's so OBVIOUSLY a witch hunt.
Not only that it's a clear pattern the establishment has used over and over ..Julian Assange was attacked with the same exact scenarios all proven false..
There is a stream of unscrupulous scorned women to join the me too movement to enact a little revenge especially when money is a motivational factor.. Yet 100eds of women saught out by these "news" agencies for the hit piece all rejected the false accusations and said he was nothing but decent to them..
Anyone that can't see this is suspected of being part of this Spanish inquests out to burn witches.
Bottom line is, none of us know what happened. These allegations are for police and lawyers. The fact these allegations skipped over the law and went straight to the media paired with the particular topics that brand discusses on his channel make this all very suspicious. Most people arent saying hes innocent, theyre just saying that something is fishy about the way this all came to be. I think Brand did a great job pleading his case to his viewers.
Yeah, the timing of it is a bit suspicious. They started this investigation 4 years ago, which was around the time he was gaining a lot of support for his criticism of the government and the media. I don't really like the guy, he annoys me after listening to him for a while, but he is highly intelligent and has some similar views to my own due to me experiencing some of the medias exceptional editing of footage and interviews of myself and friends to suit their own narrative and changing the context. He's dragged himself out of those crazy times with the drugs and addiction etc, got married and settled. It fucking sucks that it all comes back to get him after he's worked to change what a dickhead he's been in the past. I'm curious what the outcome will be now.
Quite obvious why they didn’t go to the police at the time - read up a bit and you’ll understand why women more than often don’t. And they didn’t run to the media - the media approached them.
Aside from myself who, at 17 years old, had a wonderful relationship with a 37-year-old guy who treated me like a queen, I know other gals who were living the same situation. It was consensual, the men were well-off financially, not married, and sought after, and WE got them! As a BONUS, we learned the fine art of copulation. All in all, very rewarding.

Yes, we do actually. Channel 4 in the UK sent out a call for women to contact them as part of their "Russell Brand Investigation". This was a manufactured story, no one 'came forward' with this stuff, and the documentarists rejected participation from all the women with positive stories about Russell, choosing only the negative ones for inclusion - as we now know from the women who have come out, telling us that they were not invited to participate because they had nothing negative to say, and so on. So yes, we do actually know what's going on.
Article 6 of the Human Rights Act 1988 provides citizens in our country the right to a fair and public trial or hearing in relation to both criminal and civil matters. Section 2 of Article 6 states , “Everyone charged with a criminal offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law” Russell has not even been charged yet.
But this is not a court where innocent until proven guilty is the law. This is the internet and the court of public opinion reigns supreme. You cowards can't just come out and say you support this alleged rapist because you know deep down he's guilty and you use the above stupid excuse to virtue signal your support for him.
Presumed innocent in the eyes of the LAW. He makes a living off of the public, the public is allowed to hear information and make a decision whether they want to support him anymore or not. Just like at a job you can get fired for inappropriate behaviour even if it doesn’t send you to prison.
Yeah unfortunately when the “victim” goes to the media instead of cops the judicial system and rights are moot.

We also have text messages from RB apologizing to this woman and telling her something came over him. You're a woman and it's disgusting to see you support a rapist because he's the celebrity you trust.
He's still innocent according to the law, however, he exposed himself to scrutiny when he published this video.

At the end of your video especially, you described that in cases like this, it is extremely important to maintain the view “innocent until proven guilty.” The fact that Brand is being straightforward and has no behavior clusters of lying, this is the best reason to withhold judgement , and the media is definitely out of line writing about things as though they really happened. thank you for being so meticulous and clear about it all.

None of the media I consume has suggested that the accusations are anything but accusations at this point. In fact, I haven't heard anything about this case on corporate media since the day the story broke, and then again when the UK police opened their investigation. It's really not a very important news event unless you're a celebrity obsessed media outlet that thrives on controversy and is desperate for clicks.

This denial definitely seems very confident and robust. But, as you said Spidey, it proves neither guilt nor innocence. I agree that victims of any alleged crime should come forward and report it. But I also have no respect for people who make false accusations. Not only because of possibly hurting the accused, but, most importantly, it makes it so much harder for actual victims to be confident enough to come forward, to be believed l, or to get justice.

Brand is innocent. The details are to shady. The media outlets who russell criticized alot, did the investigation and found these women from his past. So these women told the media before the police? And only told them when the media came asking? I mean really? Russell wrote a book and was forth coming about his sex addiction. Why didnt these women say something then? The media doesn't like his message which questions narratives we are told to believe.
that's why it is good there's more than 1 complaint by people who do not know each other, so far there's been 4 separate allegations, I am quite confident there is many more.

What bothers me about this case is the fact that yet again someone is being tried in the media before it's entered a court of law. I have no idea whether he's guilty or not. It wouldn't surprise me if he was guilty because of what he was like at that time and the amount of drugs he was taking.
But even the guilty deserve to have a fair trial in democratic countries.
They are trying to judge him and punish him before he has been found guilty by a court of law and that makes me really uncomfortable.
If he's guilty by all means punish him. It's a heinous crime he was accused of. But at least give him a fair trial in a court of law first.

I have to offer a correction, in that there are videos of other women approached by this media outlet, and they state that they were excluded, because their own stories didn't fit the narrative the media company was promoting. As well as released text messages from one of his accusers, indicating that she'd regretted the decision she'd made.
So I find your commentary to be rather interesting, in the expressionary language. And commend you, for your maintaining a rather neutral stance in examining the case. It is quite refreshing.

You mention a message from an accuser where she regrets a decision she made. Regretting a decision to do something is not the same as being raped.

That said, a lot of ppl in this comment section seem to want to judge him for his past and I don't think that's fair at all. As a former addict myself (won't say what I was addicted to) I think it is disgusting for anyone to accuse former addicts of atrocious criminal behavior just because of their past.
He hasn't even been charged yet, and people want to say this and that, truly horrifying to me. Guys, people still struggle with addiction, and you making them out to be these menaces is going to make it harder for them to want to recover.
That said, I am PROUD of his personal development and growth. I used to think he was grotesque, but the man he has become is so far removed from the man I saw in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" that in my eyes he is very much brand new, and has been a new man for quite some time.
I enjoy his content, I think he articulates himself very well, and at the end of the day, no matter what happens to be true, I hope that justice is served!!!
Truth is... most of us abuse an addictive, substance that's legal. Sugar, alcohol coffee.... junk food... cigarettes etc etc!
I strongly disagree; having struggled with addiction gives you a better perspective. Brand was once a wounded and self destructive man. Many people think that having addictions means being an aggressive violent person, which is most often not true. People struggling with addictions are often sensitive people that use the addictions to numb the pain of overwhelming unprocessed emotions. Brand is a different man now. The work he does is a testimony to his inner work and his love and compassion for others. He initially suffered great losses speaking up and was ridiculed. P.S. I’m a somatic therapist and part of my job is reading people’s character structures.

@stagnant13there’s a few things I could critique in your comment but one thing that you seem to not realize is EVERYONE is an addict of something; it doesn’t have to be the drugs, alcohol or sex. People are addicted to sugar, coffee, exercise, sports, work, etc.
Anything that helps us feel good in combination with release of stress can become addictive and on some level everyone has that problem to some extent.
Do you drink coffee every morning? Just stop and see how it feels
Stop any of your daily *habits* and see how it feels.

He always ends with something like “but what do you think?” after presenting stuff in a very sneaky way where the unsaid part is that if you DON’T think the way he does then you’re a fool, a sheep, unenlightened etc. It’s both effective and frightening.

We don’t need him to raise awareness of either of those things. I was diagnosed bipolar 20 years ago. I’m on lithium. Any other combination of antipsychotic and anti epileptic (used to treat bipolar) worked. Lithium has kept me sane and alive. Equally I’ve been in rehab for alcohol a few times and I’m in recovery. I certainly haven’t benefited from him monetising on either of those subjects. Even he can’t make people understand these illnesses.
And I think he’s a classic example of untreated addiction and bipolar.

It's actually legal in England and in most states to date or marry a 16 year old man or women. So it's not a crime on its on.
I love your analysis and you are the first person on RUclips to remain totally neutral in your presentation and that's how it should be. So many people have convicted Russell Brand for life based off of the media! Equally others have invalidated the complainants by making it all about the media. I personally admire Russell Brand for how he turned his life around and for his courage in speaking out against corruption. I do believe the media have a hidden agenda to silence him but that doesn't mean the accusations aren't valid. I actually work in trauma recovery from sexual violence. Consent is a very ambiguous concept and it's something that should be talked about more openly in public forums because honestly there are scenarios were consent can be wrongly assumed especially when drugs and alcohol are added to the mix. I'm not excusing wrong behaviour, I'm just saying that subtle signals can be missed when someone is drunk. People need to learn to verbally get consent! I remember in the good old days 😅😅 that if a guy wanted to kiss a gal he asked for her permission first! He didn't just lunge towards her and hurl his lips against hers....this is normal behaviour in today's society....people assume that just because they're experiencing chemistry, so is the other person, instead of saying 'Would you mind if I gave you a kiss?'. Anyway, my point is the same as yours. I believe Russell believes he always had consent.... but that doesn't mean the complainants did consent. I also believe that the mainstream media do want to take him down and this disgusts me because the media are exploiting these women to meet their own ends. This case is for the courts to decide and nobody's reputation should be destroyed so quickly and so publicly without due course.

I love your videos and the break down of your analysis. Specifically I love that you don't make judgments in the video about whether you think the person is telling the truth or lying, you simply go over the body language and the research. Personally, I can't say if he is lying or telling the truth and honestly that isn't my judgment to make. If there is evidence of wrong doing, he should be charged and tried like anyone else. Until he is charged with a crime it is just accusations and speculation, which does not prove anything. Whichever way it goes, I just hope truth prevails.
Did you know that women are better at detecting masking/showy people than men? This is because more parts of the average female brain fire up when met with a person who seems fake or insincere.
One study found that women were better at identifying men who were lying about their feelings. Women were also better at detecting men who were trying to manipulate them.
Another study found that women were better at identifying men who were likely to be abusive in relationships. Women were also better at detecting men who were likely to cheat.
These studies suggest that women have a natural ability to see through masking/showy people. This ability may be due to the fact that women have evolved to be more sensitive to social cues. Women may also be more likely to pay attention to nonverbal cues, such as body language and facial expressions.
Here is an example of how this might play out in real life:
A husband and wife go to a work party. There they meet a great guy, well that's what the husband thinks.
When in the cab home the wife says you know, i did not like Mrx. Her husband says he is a great dude. two weeks pass and this great guy has been hitting his girlfriend and stealing money from his grandma.
In this example, the wife was able to see through the man's mask and identify him as someone who was not to be trusted. She may have been able to do this by paying attention to his nonverbal cues, such as his body language and facial expressions. She may also have been able to pick up on subtle changes in his tone of voice or his word choice.
Of course, not all men are masking/showy people. And not all women are good at detecting them. However, the research suggests that women have a natural ability to see through these people more often than men.

these days all it takes is an accusation to ruin someone, and people in media know this to well. it's the ones that actually hear about these allegations and are so quick to throw it out there are the ones we should be looking at. Since we all know that a person is suppose to be innocent till proven guilty. It's filthy to treat it otherwise.
it's the people who are so quick to run with this type of information of allegations and spread it like it's breaking news, and they know this and do it anyways.
What’s really terrible is that the people that make false accusations are really and truly HARMING the ones who’ve been abused. The reason I’m inclined to believe Russell is that I’ve read his book and listened to his talks about recovery. When I first was exposed to him, I honestly could not stand him!!! But, I’ve seen him be very open and honest about recovery and sought to do amends with those he’s harmed in the past. I find it hard to believe these issues weren’t addressed by himself and his sponsors when he started living an and practicing recovery. I don’t think the man is perfect, but he certainly hasn’t seemed to be the person to hide from his responsibilities/wrongs.
@@DeeliteeIf someone commits a serious crime. Then vows to live a clean life, but 20 years later an accuser comes forward do we let the criminal off? as she/he has been a good person AFTER the crimes. So, if we go to court then and only then will we know the truth.
Remember that he is an actor or has more acting experience than most of us.
I don't like Russell Brand but I do admire his ability to persuade and speak to an audience. You picked up quite a few nuances of his behaviour that Joe Ordinary would never have spotted. At the end of the day he has a right to defend himself in a court of law, not the court of public opinion.

I think if he's being tried in the court of popular opinion by the UK parliament and social media, he has every right to defend himself anywhere he can. There's been no charges, just allegations made by unidentified complainants, so it doesn't look like he's going to get his day in court to defend himself. Remember Johnny Depp and Amber Heard......seems there are people out there that who do lie so innocent until proven guilty seems like it might be a far more fair way to go.....oh and wait, isn't that the supposed ethos of the western world. I totally agree with you and I was manipulated into joining a bizarre religious cult (I didn't get as far into it as others though) when I was young, so have developed a radar for those types of people and Russell Brand is the epitome of a cult leader, IMHO!

Thinking back to my late teens and early twenties I’ve had some encounters with pushy handsy dates. It happens and it’s not good. But raging hormones and alcohol/drugs skew reasoning. The only reason I’d bring it up years later is if I believed that person was still using abusive behavior towards others.
Throughout the video he displayed manipulative traits. Wearing a white (colour conveying innocence) shirt. Hand gesturing directly to the viewer(come on get on my side) micro shakes of the head when making affirmations of innocence (I can’t believe what I’m saying) , and the ‘call to arms in his signature ‘sign off’. Wow.😮
What is strange is that he starts by claiming he’s received letters attempting to silence him him and to stop him appearing at some festivals, that he shouldn’t be allowed to attack the mainstream media, and that the specific allegations are somehow added to a lot of other stuff aimed at silencing him. But- he’s not shown the letters he says are mainly focused on what he describes. Why not? They would certainly prove his point and cause an uproar if they were an attempt to silence him- that would be a kind of blackmail. it’s more likely the letters are informing him of the content of the documentary before it’s aired and the documentary was focused on allegations of sexual misconduct. That’s why I’m sure RB was trying to control this narrative with this statement and to convince his followers that he is being attacked for his views not his (alleged) actions before they see for themselves.

@@Scatavic63 true, his followers aren’t that focused on the detail, but publishing the letter and email would a) cause an uproar in the legacy media and provide irrefutable evidence of the attempt to silence him, or b) show that these letters stated that there would be allegations made against him in the documentary, so he could refute them or attempt to place an injunction on them so it wouldn’t be aired. He has chosen to veil them in secrecy.
I actually didn't like how he said, "that I absolutely deny". If someone had accused me of doing something criminal, I'd have said, "which absolutely didn't happen." Or "which I never did". Anyone can deny something. Saying you deny it is not the same as saying it's not true. Like if you said to someone, "did you do this?" Which sounds more believable, "no, I didn't do it" - or - "I deny it"?

I've been a fan of Russell's Stay Free spiritual awakening movements for 2-3 years. His willingness to embrace new ideologies from the guets he brings to us shows he's constantly evolving. He's a human being. I would not waste 1 second of my time if i didn't believe him to be a genuine individual with much balanced knowledge to offer us all. I believe this tragedy is a pivoting time for him giving him the opportunity to grow beyond everyone's expectations. I disagree with the way it was brought straight to media instead the proper police authorities.

I will not say I believe 100% that he is innocent. HOWEVER, this very obvious collaborated effort on the media's part to shut him down (not conspiracy, its a fact) makes me lean towards his innocence.
Even this video had a strike and Spidey couldn't run ads on it, which is so stupid. Spidey is not the only RUclipsr that has been penalized for sharing any content related to this at all.
I'll put it this way: if the media was fair about these accusations, and people weren't literally getting struck by social media algorithms just for talking about this subject, I would be 50/50 on this matter until the truth has been brought to light.

What's interesting, without a judgement of guilt or innocence, is while this week of RB on blast, the UK passed legislation to allow intrusive government access to breach privacy, most specifically on "digital platforms." Behind the scenes, the UK Parliament was also writing letters to all digital platforms, "suggesting" in less than subtlety to demonitize RB. Interesting, imho.

Thank you for this even, very level analysis! I have to preface this as saying I’m not a Russell Brand follower- he’s way too manic for me and watching him wears me out. I do agree with many of the things he says though about the media and such. Yes, due to his drug use he could very well be remembering the encounters differently from how they happened. And again the alleged victims could also be remembering the encounters differently too. I wouldn’t be surprised one way or the other. What I do find concerning is that the narrative says that his behavior was a well known secret in Hollywood. Why didn’t someone speak out then? Why didn’t someone speak out when we were hearing about Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby? Why now? The timing makes it suspicious to me. And then there’s the thought of who knew about this and why didn’t they say anything? Kinda makes them accomplices.

Here is what I consider best practices when trying to evaluate claims of sexual assault:
1) Pay no attention, none, zero, to the reputation of the accused. We all thought Bill Cosby was too decent to be a serial rapist; that's how much we can trust reputation.
2) Focus on consistency of the accusations. Do the accusations change in fundamental ways over time? If so, consider them false. As a rape survivor once explained, when you've been a victim, there are no "versions" of what happened to you; there is only the horrible, unwanted reality of what happened. Now, I'm not talking about minor details that could conceivably shift because the trauma of an assault would make some recollections hazy; I'm talking about the accusation itself: what happened, where and when did it happen?
3) What happened immediately after the event in question? Are there witnesses who say the victim was in a traumatized condition? There may not be any direct physical evidence of an assault, but if people can corroborate at least elements of the story, that lends some credibility.
Just to talk about point 3 - that one can be iffy. I was once drugged and nearly raped (thankfully he didn't go through with it) and the next day I was acting like nothing happened. I was coming up with all kinds of reasons I might have been unable to walk and passed out after only having not even half a drink. Denial can be a powerful thing. But that said, the other points you mentioned still hold - I've never changed one detail about what happened except that I finally acknowledged, years later, that it was drugging/almost rape. But I had people who would be able to say I was acting unusual that night, and the friend I told the next day recognised it for what it was immediately, even if I was in denial. I just wanted to point out that because of the nature of it, the person's emotions or perceptions of events might not stay the same... but certainly the description of what happened and where should be fairly consistent.

As someone who has also had a period of extreme promiscuity in the past, I can speak a little about that lifestyle. When you are promiscuous, you have or develop skills that allow you to read the atmosphere and various microexpressions. You almost develop a sort of radar that helps identify those who are going to be more open to your advances.
However, for balance, it is also true that individuals who are receptive to the promiscuity of others tend to be hypersexualized themselves. It has been my experience that when activities occur in those encounters that are outside the normal range of things, it has always been the other person who puts the suggestion of "naughtier" activities into play in the game of flirtation.
I am a very open and accepting person; people feel they can approach me without hesitation. I can also present whatever various faces I need to in any particular situation. I can say with full confidence that I have never suggested that "we" do anything in particular or try something a bit more naughty. For instance, some people fantasize about a little rough play. Some are the pushers, and some are the pushies.
It is not unusual for someone who has always fantasized about wanting some aggression to later reflect on it and decide they don't like it. It made them feel vulnerable or unsafe. But that is the risk each person in casual sexual encounters takes and must own their part in.
I would actually enjoy some verbal repartee with RB. It would be interesting to pick and poke at him to see if I could get him to react first or if it would be the other way around.
My superpower has always been that I can read men extremely well. It's a natural ability I've developed over time that began at a young age.
I get no sense that Russell has ever hurt anyone or forced himself, no matter how high or drunk he may have been. I see in him the type of person who just wants to enjoy sex and intimacy because it feels good in the moment, because he's met someone else who wants to join him, and because they can. It is no more complicated than that. It's not for everyone, but that doesn't mean it's aggregious behavior, harmful, or "bad" for those who do. People in general confuse "sex" and "love,", believing they are or should be the same thing.
Sex is something you do because you can, because it feels good, and because it's fun to do. Being in love, making love, and sharing that deeper connection with another person is entirely different from sex; sex is actually at the very bottom of the list of important things when you're in love with another person.

The example was just that, not a preference or a "taste". RB was a young man who had fame and fortune and who enjoyed sex as often as he could find it. Also, just because you are straight? That doesn't mean you do not seek opportunity.
There are women (and men) who chase that type of person solely to put a notch in their belts. The *_only_* time the experience becomes important? Is when someone flashes money in their faces to tell their story. The juicer, the better.
The sad part of this story is that these women were probably as drunk or high as RB, and anyone who has indulged knows that our inhibitions drop and we do things we normally would never do. 😲

Russell Brand blinks more often when he's for example interviewing somebody and discussion goes into some unexpected places that require more quick wit and improvisation. But when he's prepared and knows what to say he often has this non-blinking stare. I believe it's due to his acting background. He simply knew what to say on this video and was going through prepared lines. That indeed doesn't mean much in terms of lying or telling the truth.

@@radish6740kinda bothers me that you are putting “sociopaths” in the bucket with “neurodivergent people.” Generally “neurodivergence” is reserved for those on the autism spectrum and/or ADHD. It’s occasionally broadened to include learning disorders. Such people have empathy, but often are “out of sync” in social cues and behaviors, not because they are being manipulative, but because they honestly see things quite differently. They are usually extremely honest, sometimes to a fault. Sometimes their habit of avoiding eye contact can be seen - incorrectly - as a sign of guilty feelings by people who don’t understand the origin of the behavior. Neurodiverse folks often avoid eye contact with everyone at all times because it’s overwhelming to them.
Sociopathy, on the other hand, usually indicates someone lacking in empathy, who lacks a conscience, and who are very manipulative. They lie extremely easily because of those things, and it’s hard to tell that they are lying because they don’t display the signs of stress others show while lying. They are often quite likely to stare you right in the eye while lying.
These are two very different groups of people. While yes, technically both types of brains differ from “the norm”, someone with sociopathy (aka Antisocial Personality Disorder, in the DSM) is not “neurodivergent.”

The only videos I had seen before where in interview settings where he is shown at an angle, so i though the centre of the camera was for added impact. but as your analysis and some members pointed out, that in this setting he is almost always centre stage, so that didn't say much haha.
Other than everything you allready mentioned one small detail that suggest to me that this video is indeed what he believes to be the truth, is that when he speaks about being open and transparent in his past, that he literally points both tumbs behind himself. It's his past. His viewpoint. It's not a story to us ( where he might point to past n present as a timeline). it seems to be his experience shared with us.
That was a fun little detail. Standing alone it doesn't say much, but it compliments the facial expressions and his emphasis nicely.
I have no big opinion on if he crossed lines or not either.
But I agree, as public denials go, it's a strong one.

Hey, just a heads up that Russell was clean and sober for a few years prior to the time of the alleged events. Obviously, we still can’t know the full truth, but for me this highlights the fact that he wasn’t in his out-of-control phase.

As someone who didn't particularly like Brand because of how he portrayed himself earlier in his career; when he said people had been saying he needs to watch out and they're coming for you, I rolled my eyes and wrote it off as conspiracy echo chamber comments at best. I didn't think it was true because a lot of people had been saying it, according to him. I hadn't seen these people saying it myself, and were already critical to his channel from the limited exposure to his content I've had in recent years, seeing him as a bit of a conspiracy nut.
I still think it's a bit far fetched and conspiracy theorist in nature, but it certainly didn't help when I looked at the Channel 4 News "documentary", that it completely painted him as guilty. It weren't news reporting, it was straight up sentencing, accompanied with sinister music, a series of choice clipped quotes from his edgier comedian days, cut to fit together with silhouettes of actors and supposed altered voices of the anonymous real victims describing what had allegedly happened to them. Then Rumble comes out condemning a branch of the UK parliament for having reached out to get them to demonitize his content without any trial. TikTok having received a similar letter from the same UK parliament branch where they ask for his content to be demonitized even if it were to be within the Content Guidelines of the platform. Wouldn't surprise me if RUclips got the same letter and complied, as he is currently demonitized.
I don't like to see someone being convicted before they have even been charged, before they have been tried, and before they have been convicted. To be judged and executed based on accusations from someone anonymous because a few media outlets paints it as real. And that is evidently happening with this case. These companies and the UK government are making his cooky conspiracy theories seem almost plausible. Now, I don't actually think the media is trying to silence him, that he was too close to the truth or anything like that, but I certainly think it's very dangerous for a body of the UK government to involve themselves in what is basically censorship. That is a dangerous step in the direction of having a government-controlled state-censored media. A future where we all live in dictatorships that decides what the public gets to view, what is deemed acceptable to them, something most people and governments supposedly condemns.
If he is guilty, I hope he gets his due punishment. But I refuse to take accusations as truth before anything has at least gone through a trial.

I like the sea change around situations like Brand's, as reflected in the comments below. I think the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard defamation case made people pause around these accusations. It is always essential to take an accuser seriously enough to thoroughly investigate the allegations. Still, with Depp, many people online AND in media outlets automatically sided with his accuser, Amber Heard, and assumed he was a wife-beater. It turns out that not only was that not true, but the abuser (physically, emotionally, and mentally) turned out to be the accuser while Depp was actually the one who was abused. Some mainstream media outlets stood by Amber regardless of the evidence and the outcome of the defamation trial. However, the public seemed to have learned from that trial: Believe the accuser to ensure an investigation happens, then wait without judgment until the case is over. That is a massive step toward embracing the legal status of "Innocent until proven guilty." I don't know if Brand is innocent or guilty. Are these his victims, and he was too drugged up to remember that he forced himself on them? Or are they the new Amber Heards and trying to make money from the one-night stands they had years ago? Only an investigation will let us know. So we wait.
I think that Amber exaggerated but I also don’t think Depp was entirely innocent. It was clearly a toxic relationship on both sides. It annoys me when people make out Depp to be a saint when he’s clearly just as problematic.

As I understand it, the body is leaking from the subconscious. This means that it wouldn't be any different with a narcissist because their subconscious still knows the truth. Where there is a difference is with psychopaths because they don't have the same emotions and psychological make up as all other humans. They don't get the fear and shame response that everyone else has. It doesn't mean that there's never any leaking, but there's going to be a lot less.

I think that what he says is what he believes to be true. Unfortunately, due to his history of serious drug abuse, there will be many things that he can’t remember. If any of his accusers were also “under the influence”, those memories will also be suspect. I wouldn’t be surprised if the English equivalents to our tabloids had a role in this.
It was hard to read those micro expressions because Russell is so expressive when he talks I'm focusing more on what he's saying than watching those facial expressions. You broke it down brilliantly thank you! I'm not a fan of Russell I never liked the way he behaved with women all those accusations come from many years ago when it was his whole schtick was about getting his end away he was rewarded with high profile jobs and roles for acting that way women threw themselves at him he wasn't a preditor he just took advantage. In the documentary they imply he was guilty of rape and they used a text of him saying sorry the next day but when I saw the whole messages he was apologising for having how's your father without a condom. The Government sent letters to sites that host his videos and put pressure on them to shut him down. I not judging guilty or innocent you need to establish that in a court of law not trial by media. There is a co ordinated attack on him. That's not conspiracy that's fact. I support his right for free speech and the right of women to voice their experiences.

I like the use of “stay free” at the end. He just told his audience that he encourages free thinking. He almost is giving full permission to his audience to have their own thoughts and use their own intelligence to come to a conclusion. But, since he brilliantly used the words at the end of his statement, he molded the audience’s thought process toward supporting him. Here’s a celebrity who has basically complimented his audience by acknowledging that they are intelligent, free thinkers and can rise above the media cramming their ideas down the audience’s throats. The audience will at least subconsciously recognize that compliment and be generous with their opinions toward him.

As a recovering alcoholic following the 12 steps like Brand I can tell you outright that rigorous honesty is imperative and becomes a habit. Brand would find lying over something like this extremely uncomfortable and anyone would spot it a mile off.
2:06 I got held up by checking if baroque had some street meaning I was unaware of. (He said 'barok' but I assume it's just an alternative pronunciation.) The dictionary says: "characterized by grotesqueness, extravagance, complexity, or flamboyance". That actually describes Russell quite well. I assume he'll say that any woman near him should know his reputation and not be around him if they didn't want to be his next target, but on with the show...

The media are just going to cancel him for previous behaviors that they didn't care about at the time. The guy did some questionable things, nobody cared at the time. They loved him until he opposed the mainstream.
The truth most likely lies somewhere in the middle of all that. The fact that he always was promiscuous and open about it doesn't absolve him of any wrong doing, but it also puts him in a vulnerable position. And, as you said, anyone who felt were abused should absolutely be able to come forward at any time. And we should leave the verdict with the justice system. It is very worrisome and dangerous that anyone could decide to accuse someone and have the media to take this so very publicly before any verdict. It's a type of power that, put in the wrong hands, can destroy not only reputations, livelihoods and families, but also the very core of our justice system, in my humble opinion. No comment on his status of guilt or whether consent was given or not, but the trend of his behaviour speaks to treating women like a commodity and I am not cool with that

I think Spidey would agree, as the Behaviour Panel have said...knowledge of the strategy is not foolproof. In the end Russell is still a human and real emotion will leak out.

If he was a raging alcoholic and drug user how can he possibly say it isn’t true? There is a huge possibility that he has blacked out and can’t remember. I know a few alcoholics and I can tell you that they can say and do some VERY harmful things and later not remember a thing. That is just the way it is
He is scared and so he should be. I believe it’s time to pay the consequences for his past behaviour. Period. He is just going to have to deal with the outcome whatever that looks like. Can he honesty say that he NEVER did or said anything that hurt anyone? I doubt that very much. Part of healing and recovery from the disease is making amends to those they have harmed in ANY way. If he is still in such denial and isn’t able to acknowledge any responsibility for his past behaviour than I’m afraid he is NOT in recovery.
It is not for us to question these allegations either way. This is not our issue is it? Whether you think you like him or not shouldn’t matter either. I mean do we ever really know ANYONE let alone a celebrity?

The way I understand it, Brand can still critique mainstream media. He can continue his normal content. You tube has demonetised his channel, they haven’t canceled it. His freedom of speech is still intact.

Spidey, perhaps you would consider using your skills to perform the same kind of analysis on Channel 4's expose documentary "In Plain Sight"? As someone with a background in the media, I noticed that Channel 4's program producers had used every trick in the book to make their quite weak evidence sound more impressive, which definitely deserves a careful analysis of their program making techniques.
Even though I couldn’t quite articulate his body language like you these line up with the thoughts I had. Like around 17:30 I watched another channel assess him making such a statement as some sort of inconsistency like he should have jumped from one statement and left out a part in between. I understood him to be saying “Yeah I was promiscuous I’m not that guy anymore.” That he has different values.
If someone questioned me about my early 30’s I’d probably respond similarly I’m not that person anymore but I was wild.

The Russell “Brand” is him being himself. I’ve always liked him for his transparency. Also for his exceptional interpersonal skills as they translate on screen. He always seems to understand the narrative, but doesn’t need to conform to it for self-preservation. He knows who he is. As for the analysis, I think it was done well and is on point. I agree.
What he doesn’t say is also important in gaining viewer interest. He doesn’t give any details about the allegations against him-he just gives hints. He doesn’t divulge anything about what the two letters actually say-no sentences, no verbiage, nothing. He doesn’t talk about what his witnesses might say. He doesn’t hint at who his witnesses are or how he knows them. And, most importantly, he doesn’t say which two media outlets are responsible.
Now, some people probably know the answers to what this missing info in his statement is. But, by withholding it , he has created even more curiosity for viewers. He just took control of the narrative.

About the jump cut(s). They are often used to create emphasis and/or energy. Music videos are a perfect example. In this case, I think he used it to emphasize or draw heightened attention to what he was saying at that precise moment.
For reference, check out any Black Pink music video & watch for when they're used & the rate at which they're used. The faster the music, the faster the frequency of jump cuts and vice versa. It's actually really interesting & effective.
1) The accusers didn't go to the media, the media sought them out - over 100 women, they found FOUR - and the ones who said RB was fine and harmless were dismissed.
2) The UK Government got involved! Having RB de-platformed - unable to make money, or pay his staff. This is disturbing AF.
3) He's been going against the Narrative of the Status Quo and questioning "Authority" for a while now and "they" need to shut him up.
4) Cardi B admits to worse crimes, she still has a RUclips channel. R Kelly has been CHARGED with SA crimes. He still has a youtube channel.
There are many more criminals making money on youtube, yet RB gets cancelled due to ALLEGATIONS? Not Cool.

Yeah that's all true. Whether these allegations have any merit to them at all, one thing I have no doubt of, Brand was targeted. They LOOKED for something to hang him with. This was absolutely a hit job either way. Whether because he's wildly successful and taking their place as a news source, or because what he's speaking about is enlightening people to the corruption among our federal government. (Probably both.) But he speaks the truth and backs it up with evidence. Which I massively respect. I don't even have to agree with him on every political topic. One thing I will say, I saw the alleged text from one of the "victims" and even in that text she's not claiming he raped her. She's alleging she had made it clear to him in their prior sexual encounter that she wanted him to wear a condom, and that this current time he didn't, agaisnt those wishes. If this is true I can imagine a few scenarios how this might have went down, but either way this clearly isn't the same as penetrating a woman's orifice against her will. (As the media is spinning it.) And that's not to say that if he chose not to wear a condom against her wishes that it's ok. Just that rape as we all recognize it, is something much more sinister and evil than what she's alleging. I don't know what sexual assault the other girls are alleging. But I do know that our current vernacular defines sexual assault to be something as small as putting your hand on a woman's lower back uninvited. So I'm taking that specific term with a grain of salt. Anyway, to your point Hollywood is full of creeps and people who've done heinous things. But the way it works now is that as long as you walk the politically correct line and repeat the accepted talking points, the media isn't going to look for ways to hurt you. That's a fact.
Btw, a perfect example of the media choosing who they want to ruin? Howard Stern. Not only was he one of the grossest, most misogynistic, offensive famous person anyone knew of, EVERYONE KNEW. And no one gave 2 shits how demeaning he was to women. Inviting them on to strip to a bikini so he could point out there tiny (percieved) flaws. And I found out recently (and heard the audio clip) that the day after the Columbine massacre, he was talking about it, and mentioning all the hot HIGH SCHOOL girls running out of the school during the shooting. Then proceeded to actually say that the killers should have raped some of the girls before finishing their plan. He actually freaking said that. And he wasn't joking. And yet somehow this man is beloved by our media and gets a pass. I can't imagine that has anything at all to do with the fact that he repeatedly states the mainstream talking points, and unapologetically identifies as woke. Couldn't be related at all, or matter to our ever progressive media.🙄 It's such a joke. 😒
