In September of 1986 I surprised my wife with this song. She had called me at work and told me that she was expecting our first child. When she got home that evening I had turned the lights down low. I was standing in the living room with a dozen of red roses, a candlelight dinner and this song playing on the stereo. We had a beautiful baby girl on May 1, 1987. My wife is dancing with the ANGELS IN HEAVEN NOW!!!
I remember my high school prom, the guitar player in the band had a tough time keeping it together on this one, he finally settled down but after he played some of the craziest guitar I ever seen! I guess I wasn't ready for it, but nowadays my kids LOVE it!
Thank you, Mom, for all those years of hearing this amazing music!❤ There are so many wonderful and bittersweet memories, but I wouldn't change a thing! Even after 22+ years of you being gone, I think of you and your wisdom every day!💕
My dad told me that he danced to this song with his girlfriend Jill in the summer of 1955. He passed away in January. Hearing this song reminds me of the story my father told me and saddens my heart.
I was born in the pre Cambrian era and I'm 3.1 billion years old. Back in my young days me and trilobites would crawl around listening to Sea Scorpians eating rugose coral.
As a child, I remember listening to this song on my grandfather's Jukebox in his basement and laying on the floor and closing my eyes, just soaking in the melody. Now almost two decades later I rediscovered this song, and it reignited my love for 40s and 50s music. Now everytime I listen to this song, I'm back as a small child on my grandfather floor in front of the Jukebox. That type music is so much better than anything being made now.
+DesertScoutAirsoft, I'm from this generation, and I love listioning to these types of songs. So don't think all of today's youth won't appreciate these songs.
This song was recorded and released the year my mother was born. She had a hard life, but remained an angel. She was the best mother. the best person ever. She's gone now and I miss her desperately she above anyoneone is the one I adore. I love you momma I wish you were still here.
Just received some of my Moms stuff since she passed. My Nick name is Angel. In the stuff was an old 45 by the Penguins. Earth Angel, with my baby picture in the middle. Had no idea she still had the record. I love you Mom. 🤍🙏🏽🕊😇
I remember my aunt Mimi dancing to this with her boyfriend George. They were married in 1955 and they both passed last year after all of those years of being happy together. This song takes be back to the time on Christmas eve in 1955 that I peeked down the stairs and saw them dancing to this song. They raised me as their own daughter. It makes my cry every time.
Hi Sharon, I am making a project that compiles all the memories that people have of old songs to show the significance of old music in our memory. May I have a chance to talk to you via email to learn more about your story? Thank you, and may God rest her soul.
Russell Tyson I don't have time to give you a history lesson so I'll just say: segregation, a push for conformity, Jim crow laws, domestic abuse being totally okay and not a crime, sexism, no phone lines, no highways, and more. There's also plenty of music that sounds like this that is made today. Just because Motown was more popular at that time doesn't mean there aren't Motown bands out there right now.
And he said "This is dedicated to the one I love" that was in 1960..I was 15 and so was he, we went steady until 1963,married and had three daughters..He was my one and only love : )
Aww thank you Baby Spice, yes life was sweet in the 60's, I would go back if only for a weekend, we had so much fun, so many friends, and such awesome tunes..life was much simpler then.
sylvia lobland No, it wasn't take off your nostalgia goggles lady the 1960s were not good times there was racism, drugs, discrimination , death, and all sorts of things society today is much better we have good health care , little racism, better technology, basically everything is better.
Makes me think of my grandpa, miss him so much, I remember listening to this song all the time in his garage, that and everly brothers and many others. I love you grandad, rest in peace.
I remember playing this song not too long ago and dancing slowly and singing this to my four year old daughter and my husband started bawling like a baby. He said that he loved us very much, very special moment in our lives. This song brings back very many wonderful memories, makes me think of my grandparents that are no longer here. Love and miss youse
+The Veneficus understanding facetiousness requires no great intellect, either. Let me remind your eminence that being obnoxious from behind a cloak of anonymity requires no intelligence and very little courage.
Mark Straka How on earth was I being obnoxious? Or facetious for that matter? Your pseudo-intellectual shit is pathetic and nonsensical. I'm sure your parents are proud however.
+bianchi1885 MY THOUGHTS, EXACTLY!.............. ("HELLO!!!, MR. WILSON!.....GREAT SCOTT!!!! " - THIS IS A GOOD SONG!.)......FROM THE DENNIS THE MENACE SHOW, etc.
I’m 16 and I like older music, today’s music is nothing compared to any old song you can really feel the soul and love going into a song it’s beautiful
I’m 18 about to be 19 years old and words can’t describe how much I love these oldies…whenever I drive home from college for a weekend which is about a 3 and a half hour drive for me and I’ll always play this type of music. I’m the type of guy who would listen to anything that comes on but if I had to choose a favorite genre it would be these oldies
Me learning English language was the best that has ever happened to me, and the reason for that is the great music library. I am just keep digging into old English songs and I am finding Gold!
I remember this song like it was just yesterday. I bought a small black plastic 45 speed record player in '55 with my paper route money. Earth Angel was my first purchase and I played it over and over again. IT was my favorite, later it was my favorite in high school, college, and at age 74, I still remember the lyrics..... A real iconic tune !!! Thanks.
I work with folks who played this type of music for their children, and when I play this music for them it's so great to see them smile and sing along with it, even with them forgetting everything they still remember their favorite music..I guess music is an easy way to remember the good times in your life.
When I was a little girl I lived with my grandparents, my grandma would open the windows and I could hear music all over the house and outside, this was her favorite song.
I was a senior in high school when this song was released in 1955 and have fond memories of the R&B era. There were many outstanding groups then...The Platters, The Drifters, The Penguins etc.
To the teens who have commented how they like this kind of music, and wish it came back. Good news- the music is still around. But you have to track it down. We were spoon-fed this music back then, as stations still do. But it's out there, waiting to be found. I'm sure there are forums that will offer suggestions. I was born in 1950. I grew up with this music, and hated it in my teens. But with age, comes nostalgia. It's inescapable! I came back around to much of the 50's and 40's music. It's like comfort food for the soul. (not that I listen to a lot of it...)
+Jon Doeringer Talk about nostalgia. Early on this year, out of no where, I got this strange nostalgia for baseball cards. I happened to see an ad on E-bay for some unopened wax packs from 1991, the same year I began collecting as a kid. I bought them and I was hooked! To make a long story short, I spent a few paychecks getting all the 80's and 90's junk wax that I always wanted as a kid and I finally was able to forgive all of my childhood heroes for playing on steroids. I bet if you got nostalgic for baseball cards from your childhood, that would be one expensive case of Nostalgia. But the greatest cards of all time none the less!
I remember when my band performed this song on some high school event called the Enchanted Under the Sea dance. Unfortunately I couldn't perform because I injured my hand. Some weird fellow stepped in for me, played the guitar and performed one more song after this. He said its an oldie but I never heard it! It was lovely! Had to call my cousin Chuck! He was looking for a new sound and had to listen to it!
The Penguins deserve much respect for gifting us with a song with such timelessness and durability. Please continue listening to the oldies and adding comments in order to keep the music alive. Much love to all...
I remember my grandma telling me she loved this song. When she started her chemo treatment my sister got her this song on her CD player to listen to during her treatment so she didn’t sit there in silence and could sit in harmony with this beautiful song and forget about the world for a little. She passed away 5 days ago and this is the song that always reminds me of her.
I was 10 years old and had already bought this record. I was into music at an early age and eventually it became my career. I remember all these classics. The roots of Rock and Roll.
I was 8yrs old when I first heard this song, and haven't forgotten it since along with all the other classic tunes. Old soul sounds rule forever, we are each others keeper.
@@jonburrows2684 It's all good, Seeker -- There are tough times ahead, and we must face them TOGETHER -- like the song said : "Ebony and Ivory, TOGETHER we'll make sweet harmony --" P.S. I'm a White boi that was raised in a mixed community in North Philly in the '50s -- living in a racist pigpen of a state (AZ) now, but always remembering my homies from the past. My best to you and yours.
There are some modern love songs that absolutely hit you in the feels, but let's be honest: the old songs of yesteryear hit different. I don't know if it's just me, but they sound super intimate and just nostalgic. Never been born in those years, but it just reminds you of your past. It's a nice feeling.
@@jimjoslyn7222 i just got the idea of performing this for my grandparents' anniversary. Since my grandfather is always pushing me to play something that he can sing to.
It's not just you. There is no feeling like you get from the old classic R & B tunes. You had: The Clovers. The Drifters. The Moonglows. The Midnighters. The 5 Satins. The Penguins. Frankie Lyman & The Teenagers. Chuck Berry. The list goes on and on. I'm so glad to have been a teen at that time -- and the magic of R & B Tunes is still with me at 83 years of age.
Came here from Stephen Colbert's interview with Paul Simon where Paul refers this song as one that made him look at music with other eyes. And as a Back to the Future fan I was hoping it was the same song that helps playing so that his parents get together in the ball. Thank you, dear The Penguins, for moving so much people with your song(s)!
This song reminds me of my Mom she loved this song we played it at her funeral she died when I was 9 years old and my two sisters who are now 7 and 5. I love you Mom RIP
Earth Angel, earth angel Will you be mine? My darling dear, love you all the time I'm just a fool, A fool in love with you Earth Angel, earth angel The one I adore Love you forever, and evermore I'm just a fool, A fool in love with you I fell for you and I knew the vision of your love, loveliness I hoped and I prayed that someday I'll be the vision of your hap-happiness Oh oh Earth Angel, earth angel Please be mine My darling dear, love you all the time I'm just a fool, A fool in love with you I fell for you and I knew the vision of your loveliness I hoped and prayed that someday That I'll be the vision of your happiness Earth Angel, earth angel Please be mine My darling dear, love you all the time I'm just a fool, A fool in love with you
when I was 8 I was in the attic with my grandma and I found a box full of old albums including this one, I asked her what were these and she made the biggest smile i’ve ever seen saying “memories” later she told me that my grandpa actually played this as he proposed to her and how he was such a good dancer lol ah what I wouldn’t give to have seen what 1973 was like
I was but a boy when I heard this song long ago... These classics installed in me the traditional values of love and adoration. I still sing it to my beloved wife of 14 years. Perfect song for we blessed folk...
These old songs got more soul, love, and heart and much much more than today's music... Which is kinda sad that the best years were yesteryears of old all long ago... if only more people were more caring and loving not to mention understanding like back then maybe we'd be in better shape and better mind set today a good bit of people my age are wanna act stupid then others better it's a shame how things change.. I'm only 20 going on 21 next year and I'm saying this which is a shame... we need some of that old and good time stuff from way back
Can’t wait to see the idiot who comments “they were racist and not accepting back then”... my response to that is simply... Look at our community’s and theirs... tell me which one protected and loved each other and didn’t act like robots...
One has to lead to the next...no matter if every average American (and homeless or lower income and wealthy) ...-- you and I and most all others would still be stuck behind a government that cares about nobody except itself and its profits and leverage. Your life would not be whole if the U.S. gov is still spending almost a trillion dollars every year to bomb other countries and waste money doing it. Killing thousands of innocent civilians in the process. And if people were still living on the streets because the average American income is not enough to afford a single family home, or even an apt today....I know MANY people would not care about that. (Selfish/without perspective) ...BUT if we come together, we can completely change government, if we all come together and unite, and simply refuse to continue this broken system. We can only do that, if we come together as one. Otherwise...it will always just be Democrats Vs. Republicans forever. Until we unite as one and change it. Just simply being happy with your neighbor does not solve the problem. We need to unite with those we "disagree" with. Even those people who our own brain tells us are "idiots who dont know nothing. just selfish, just want to ruin the world" Even them.
I was 12!!! Man, the best years ever. My first record I bought was a 78 of Shboom, it cost 0.80 cents. Movies were 0,25, popcorn 0.10 and so on. As kids, we played in the street, batter-up, touch football, kick the can, hide and seek and much, much more. Peace.

+Katie There is no greater feeling than to perform one of those oldies for the girl you're in love with. I did this song, Earth angel when I was 17,.with my guitar I was shaking and sweating and was naturally "high" of the woman of my dream and her presence. The Back to the Future movie introduced me to this song. Now its 30 years ago, since it happened and I play those oldies for my wife nowadays. Its feels even better today.

Happy birthday little Leo!
