- And so it comes to an end, with all 160 fragments gathered, we head out to re-experience the final battle with new power's and powerful allies in order to see the games secret ending, but also showing the secret start earned from completing the game the first time.
Thankyou for sticking with this series until the end of the regular upload schedule, the main story may have finished ages ago but I hope you also enjoyed seeing the sights and challenges of the postgame.
While uploads will no longer be regular, I will be covering all battle and story DLC in future, so expect to see more however infrequently :)
Yes.. People, Caius won. He had the heart of Etro in his chest, he wanted to stop Yeul's continuous dying, he killed Etro and in turn, he killed everyone else as well. So yes.. He got what he wanted and he won.
its like one of the comments said in original ending "Everything was fine, then the last few minutes was a big middle finger to the players"
There was to an extent; but its only very subtle things. If you remember what Barthandelus goal was, he wanted to force open Etro's gate to summon "The Maker" (which unknown to him, would've released the chaos, as we saw in the ending) Thats what Caius was trying to do as well at first by slamming the new cocoon into the old one he would've caused the death of millions, forcing the gate open.
Etro is also the one who saves the party at the end of the first game, but in doing so screws Yuel over
I don't think people realize that the story is mostly about Caius.
His dialogue is what drives this entire story.
His yearning to save Yeul, but to do so, he clings to an impossible dream.
Time is our great obsession. Who has not dreamed of returning to the past, of changing the future? Imagine the power. To see our choices affect our lives, and then return to undo them. Endless possibilities. Imagine the freedom to cross time and journey through the ages. the freedom to change the past, and bend history to your will. What would you do if you had that power? Would you eradicate the mistakes of history and build a perfect future? or would you be subject to fate and be swept through the river of time... powerless to change your course?
That ending was the most badass thing that i've ever seen in my life. Caius became one of my favorite characters and it turns out he is still alive? That's just epic... Even though many would think otherwise... I really want to see a FFXIII-3 right now...

@@lucasbrav131 FF13-2 is my favorite of the trilogy. I liked the original FF13, as well, but it is extremely linear. As for LR, the story and the battle system are good, but I find that the combination of confusing areas and the time limit take away from the experience. All in all, I would say it is pretty good, though.
I actually love time-travel and past/future mechanic more than anything else in a game.
Anyway, Caius had a clear goal throughout the whole game. Tear down the fabric of time and history to free Yeul and himself from Etro's curse. To that end, he guided and manipulated Noel and Serah, since he couldn't do it on his own.
Additionally, the secret ending clearly hints at another plan he had not yet revealed, and that's likely going to play some role in the next game.
In Valhalla, and the Unseen Realm, life and death have no meaning. That's how Caius is still around. Of course, Yuel kept wanting to reincarnate so many times because life in that realm isn't really "living".
i always thought caius was more of a hero that simply had other goals , in many ways he was like Tidus from FFX
just like Tidus wanted to save Yuna and still kill [SIN] , Caius just wanted to save yeul , serah wanted to see lightning again , imo both sides arent that diferent , the game just made Serah and noel seem like heroes , but im sure some things they did during the game ( basically every time change ) harmed someone else
Technically, Serah and Noel are the main Antagonists of this game. Hear me out, think about Alyssa. She died because they changed the future. Even though they caused all this suffering, they dont realize it until the end of the game...
SE did a great job with this plot. When i got the secret ending, i was like uhhhh, I played into this guys hands the whole time?
lightning. the modern day successor to both cloud and leon. cloud because of her eternal struggle with caius is similar to cloud and sephiroth, and leon as the successor to the gunblade. but she is definitely more like cloud
so in the end Caius won? He is immortal and the goddess Etro is dead and Lighting her knight is is crystal sleep. Noel is still alive along with everyone else. I am getting this right because I only beat final fantasy XIII-2 once and got the original ending.

First, if you only beat the game, you have a hell a lot of things to do to get 100%. Second, I thought it was pretty obvious in the original ending that cauis won.

I think it's strange that they decided to give him a secret ending in which he was still alive, because he pretty much wanted to die in the ending cinematic. But even so, I guess it makes it more interesting :)

You don't need all the fragments to get this ending. I got it with around 60. You just need to see all the alternate endings.
Lightning knew that Serah would die. In an interview, it was said that Lightning became Crystal in order to protect Serah's will.
Perhaps the new DLC released yesterday reveals what that means.
Lightning doesn't die. She turns to crystal after accepting the inevitability of defeat at the hands of Caius.
I'd like to say that Heart of Chaos is one of the most epic tracks I've heard in a long time from a video game.
I don't think lightning is dead, just crystal. That means she could be freed. Serah living again because of these events seems likely though.
I just can't understand....
First things first, Caius bore the heart of Chaos, and it would be unleashed only if he was killed ( but he wasn't killed in the end).
He also had said to Noel that by killing him he would become his successor ( so Noel would be the new bearer of the heart of chaos- reference to Paradox ending).
So how and WHY the chaos was unleashed since Caius was still alive? How the goddess was killed when the heart still bit in Caius chest??
Another thing : by unleashing the chaos, time would freeze so Yeul would nver die again, and yet she's not alive, neither she has reincarnated ( that also means caius mission is over as a guardian).
Therefore, since serah is the same with Yeul she's supposed to have the same fate, and not just die ( maybe lumina in lightning returns??).
In the end, almost nothing seems to make any sense at all, and they forced a stupid ending just to release the third installment of the game...

most of the things you ask are answerd somewhere. I will talk about FF13-2 with all aditional endings, but i will not spoils Lightning Returns:
1.: "that by killing him he would become his successor": there is a ending to FF13-2 where noel gets the heart of chaos, there it is explained, that in this CASE he was posessed(for the lack of a better word) by the hearth, because he lacked the strength to resist.
2.: "So how and WHY the chaos was unleashed since Caius was still alive": clarified in Lighting Returns, you should be able to understand after playing it.
3.: " time would freeze so Yeul would never die again": again Lightnig returns explains that.
Not to mention how frustrating the false choice is that you get at the end. Whether or not you choose to kill Caius, he still dies. Allegedly only Noel could kill him, but they never said Noel's *sword* was anything special. So that implies it doesn't matter what weapon Noel wields, it matters whether Noel *of his own free will* chooses to kill Caius.
And yet when the moment comes, if you choose mercy, Caius grabs Noel's sword and impales and kills himself. But STOP, this makes no sense. If it was just Noel's sword that was special, why did the game so frequently claim that it was Noel who had the power to kill Caius? It should have just said "the Flame Fossil Sword (or whatever) is the only thing that can kill Caius". And since Noel chose mercy, it's clear that he is not killing Caius of his own free will, so it has nothing to do with Noel's choice. Noel is not killing him, Caius is committing suicide. And it works. So either Noel's sword was somehow specially empowered to kill Caius, which is NEVER hinted at in the game, OR Caius could have committed suicide all along, via *any method or weapon he wished*, which makes one wonder why he had to go through all these time travel shenanigans? Why didn't he just fall on his own sword and smash the timeline that way?
The ending is a pointless bait and switch that renders the entire plot pointless and feels like the biggest cheat since Lucy pulled the ball out from under Charlie Brown. The game is fun and all, and I don't regret buying it; I even love replaying it. But the ending is just ridiculously bad and frankly insulting to the fans' intelligence. :\
Actually in the Fabula Nova Crystallis (which XIII is part of) mythos the human mind is a place gods cannot reach, understand or directly influence, so it may well be that Etro was incapable of making it dependent on free will, and thus just the sword being in the right hand will do. Off course the gods, like the Fal'Cie did well in hiding their weaknesses so Etro could have deceived Caius for a time, but an immortal being who spends most of his time with someone able to see the future eventually learns a lot of things.
is a fragment that say " if Noel kills Caius but he is not ready to have the heart of chaos, he will get the Heart, butif he deserve it, he will avoid the dark fate of immortaly and so the Heart is destroyed"
I vote Caius for Dissidia!!

I really like Caius, and like sephiroth, I feel like he wasn't a villain, but more a victim of circumstance. That's why after sephiroth caius is my favorite FF Antagonist, but the games story is quite weak, however I'm yet to play the DLC episodes or LR
not only that but aside from Kefka he's the 2nd villain in the entire series that "won", and unlike Kefka nothing anyone did could fix it

Listening to the secret speech, the first one and the last, makes since that he was talking to us but referencing Lighting because she has the ability to bend time in Lightning returns
She has the ability to prolong time, she can't do anything about things that already happened.

Perhaps Yeul saw this future either as unavoidable or simply the best option.
If you can realize, Yeul is like one of the most important characters in FF XIII-2
Is this possibly hinting towards a return of Caius and Yeul in Lightning Returns? I'm still waiting for Vanille and Fang, and I would like to see where they're going with this whole Lumina character. I certainly hope Lightning Returns is chock-full of other characters returning!

lol someone is crying about an ff 7 remake because he only wants the same story in awesome graphics? I loved how the bad guy wins for once. It was a surprising twist for me to see him alive in the end.

On the left? That's the Lightning DLC. The maker of the video didn't have it when he made the Secret Ending video (he must have had Snow's Coliseum DLC and Sahzh's DLC.
no i think what happens is the world you are in is consumed in choas. because choas consumed pulse and the new cocoon and a whole new world is born that you only get 13 hours to beat. (this is just what i heard from a video showing a preview from japan)
It's a new twist almost every other final fantasy had a happy ending im glad they finally changed things around. they want people to feel emotional and angry so you can get revenge in the next sequel probably.

That is untrue, Omega does not have a 100% capture rate, i personaly battled it several times before capturing it, you can however rebattle it as many times at you want
I always did like Caius's VA in this game, but that's probably because I enjoyed the his work as Grimoire Weiss in Nier. I have to say though, I am impressed with Caius as a antagonist and a character overall, especially considering how FF's villians have been rather lackluster (Barthandelus now withstanding.) A enjoyable character overall who doesn't fall into the old "I have foreseen every outcome except my ultimate demise" trap. I must say, Square did this game quite well.
You do certain parts in the game that can either give you more time or take it away but the max amount you can ever have is 13 hours. For example, if you have 3 hours left you can complete a mission and gain another 2 hours.
I think this ending is all a trick. The thing is, in Lightning Returns it is revealed that audio is forcing a skid to stay alive. Yeah is like Alexa from Silent Hill 1. The power of all, and subjecting a person to an eternal curse because they refuse to lose them. Fabius did everything he did in 13-2 because he wanted to die, but if Noel would have taken the heart of Chaos the world could have lived. That is why Caius did everything he did. But anyway, Caius is not still alive because he wants to be. Yeul Yeul Yeul Yeul Yeul Yeul Yeul, it is all her.
Dragon Light well there's one last ending in this game, which I think is considered the true ending, unfortunately it's locked behind a paywall

Personally I loved the ending. The pre-rendered scene of Lightning arriving in Valhalla and getting her new clothes didn't show her chest (possibly for censorship alone) but I think it covered her chest to hide a L'Cie mark to be revealed in her DLC. I think her goal was to cause the Goddess' death. Just got to wait and see I guess.

Wait, if Caius is dead and he posses the heart of Etro and if you kill the Godess Yeul is freed then doesnt that mean serah isn't dead? Because shes a seeress as well right? Lightning might be dead but serah is freed from the curse along with Yeul and Caius? Took me a while to think of that.

I hope they'll continue exploring 13 and all it's storylines. Though I still have a hunch that we'll see something related to 13-2 and how it ended, in Versus 13. I -KNOW- Nomura said that they'll be unrelated, but it's just me.

i dont get it, though cauis says he killed etro but she is still there in final fantasy lightning returns, and if she was attually dead there wouldnt be any more people being born because etro is supposted to give people there hearts and etro is supposed to restore the world balance soooo, its sooo confusing i dont get it

They are 100% capture rate. You just have to beat them in battle.
That applies to Omega and Lightning(FFXIII Uniform).

True, but the sequel saw his return. I also recall (if this counts) he apparently was permanent according to International Last Mission of X-2. But that's up for debate. I don't know, I think it's just my frustration with seeing the sister's die and they weren't so bad characters. Well Serah dying and Lightning turning to crystal I mean.

Yes Lightning DLC comes out in May. But its only the story leading up to her crystal stasis. Yes, I indeed concur that they will be making another final fantasy 13-2. I think the DLC is just for clarification of the story like you said. I can't believe its done, it feels so short.
People may think that it's a stupid ending, but it actually makes sense regarding the story events.

SPOILER! Heads up in the next segment of Final Fantasy XIII. Serah's did die but traveled to an alternate dimension where she is held prisoner by an unknown force. It is Lightning's duty to save her

So thats it so Caius wasn't really dead, i collected all 160 fragments myself i didn"t get the ending either but now, we might be facing a bigger and stronger caius in 13-3.

probably not no, it was only called final fantasy because it was made when square was on the verge of tanking.

I had to rewatch this, months since I played this forgot. Notice when Caius hits the ground with his spear, and the purplish stuff unfurls...In LR recent trailer Lightning is looking at this saying this the souls of the dead and that their memories could be wiped as if they never existed. Then you have Lumina who could be Cauius in disguise..but who took Serah in DLC that was Caius I think....
How in the world are they supposed to stop someone that knows the entire timeline. Its like facing God.

I just beat this game fully with 160/160 FRAGMENTS 4/3/2015 and received a Trophy ANOMALOUS-WITNESSED-Every possible Paradox Ending I'm glad I finished it VICTORY IS MINE now on to the next game, and yes I have the Trilogy LIGHTNING RETURNS JUST SAYING ;-)

Actually, Caius is still dead. From the official guide book released by Square Enix, it's him from another world, of sorts. He's still dead, but it's another version of him "crossing over" to do the scene. I mean, he can travel through time but he isn't immortal. Even the goddess Etro died and usually Gods & Goddesses are immortal (Although there are times where this isn't the case, as with the secret ending.)
Well they did say every character in FFXIII will be in Lightning Returns Final Fantasy but i'm not sure of this though; the question is what role they will play

That awkward moment when you think they are dead. Lightning is sealed in crystal; if you paid attention in the end credits, Vanille and Fang were released from their crystals and saves. Serah is dead, for now.
So only Serah died.
Lack of originality? The battle system is amazing, and it is original, because this is the first time it happens. Ill be honest i was upset too about this, but if you would stay until the end and then see the lightning dlc, you would realize theyre still making a 13-3 and that this is kind of like a median game. I look forward to 13-3 and the conclusion.
