They don’t need to be in the war cuz they have already won. Senegal was first to do it west Africa just copied. As a Sierra Leonean I was so confused on why those girls really thought they food was the best thing.
SeneGambia has the best Jollof rice. Formally known as Thieboudienne aka Benachin. It's a tribal dish, the Wollof created it, that's why it's called Jollof. Use meat with the red one and fish with the white. We love the stewed veggies, on the side. Jollof shouldn't be overly moist, it's drier on the outside and soft on the inside. It's chewy and delicious! Authentic Thieboudienne is definitely an experience I hope everyone enjoys at least once in their life.
The interesting thing is the incorporation of Liberia in the Jolloff discussion. Liberian Jolloff is very similar to Geechee rice or Red rice by the Gullah Geechee tribe in the coastal south (Charleston, SC on down). The use of green beans, peas, and “trick meat” or spam is the same in both cultures. When you understand that history of Liberia (land where over 12,000 freeborn and newly freed slaves settled between 1822-1865 during American government led repatriation/“get rid of the free Black people” efforts), you better understand that commonalities between Geechee rice and Liberian Jolloff. Many traditions that were carried on by enslaved ancestors from all areas of West Africa sprinkled with an American twist is what makes up Gullah Geechee culture. Those practices and traditions were brought back and incorporated into their practices in Liberia by those who repatriated in Liberia. Hence, the similarities between Gullah Geechee rice (Red rice) and the Liberian Jolloff. Love to All 🙏🏾
They must've not paid attention in their American history class because even I remember learning about Liberia being the place where freed slaves were "encouraged" to "move back" to. Of course the food culture of former American freed people would come through.
I remember being in high school I had African classmates. One girl's parents are from Nigeria, the other girl's parents are from Ghana. They both fed our class jollof rice that their parents cooked and to be honest I enjoyed the Nigerian jollof rice. The Ghanaian jollof rice was ok to me, but I loved the Nigerian one. I haven't tried Liberian jollof rice.

Lastly I had Ghanaian and I think I like that one best. All three were good to me, but I really didn't have anything to compare them to.
Jollof rice 🍚 originates from Senegal 🇸🇳. I've tried jollof from Nigeria, Ghana and Liberia. I can say that my favorite is from Senegal 🇸🇳 hands down. The second runner up would be Ghana for me.
I think you should do this again but blindfold everyone and don’t tell them which country’s jellof rice they’re eating. And also give them a taste of their own food. I think that will be gold and help limit any initial bias!
As a German girl who lived in Ghana I LOVE the Jollof Rice! But of course i would try Jollof from other countries :) If anyone has a jollof rice recipe pleaaase I need it!!!
Lol I never understood the whole Jollof wars thing. If it originated in today's Senegal, The Gambia and Mauritania - then they have the best Jollof rice because they made the recipe ie the standard in which to judge every other type. Like how you gonna argue countries that are deviating from the original “correct” recipe are doing it more right than the originators? Nah yours is a riff. It might be good but I don’t know if you can even call it jollof. That’s like saying New York or Chicago pizza is the best like Italy isn’t the pro & creator of pizza & the standard of how you judge pizza.

First of all, we need better people taste testing the food, they were so biased to me. Secondly we are not gunna act like Jollof rice originated from SeneGambia which is the BEST Jollof rice since it actually has meat and cooked vegetables in a well seasoned rice. This needs a do over 💆🏽♀️🙄
My dad and his family are Ghanaian and they always put meat and veggies in their rice. However, I’m a vegetarian so when I eat Jollof, it’s without meat.
it depends on who you are. A lot of people put meat but some don't. It does not go based of the country. It goes based off of the cook. Idk why they didn't put meat.

I’ve heard Senegalese jollof is the best.
Love to All 🙏🏾
Yep Sista 👌🏾💯. Big ups to all my Gullah fam ✌🏾

Senegambia are the originators n do it best but Nigerian version carried the torch and popularized the dish with their version hands down
