I'm 54 and want to get started. You're a great teacher. I feel like I can do this!
Am 74. Painted since i was 12. In 50's had a class or 2. Prof didn't teach me. Said i already know. But..have learned a lot from people like u. My work is much better now. Thank u... Very much. I didn't know what ur teaching. . drawing stuff etc..
I am 77 and been dabbling in painting for most of that time, drawing horses mostly. Have always wanted to do portrait painting. I am very thankful the way you are always explaining so exact thank you and please continue the most fabulous teaching method I have ever seen. JIM C.
You are a superior teacher as well as a stunning accomplished artist. Love your work and explanations. First rate! Thank you!

I am one of your supporters and a very satisfied one at that. You are MY greatest supporter by far!! ~ After a lifetime of painting, being an Art teacher for many years, Commercial artist also for many decades, but really never being satisfied with the excellence of my own work. I have been trying to get closer to the really big ones. I am informed about all the ins and outs of drawing and painting and made a good living with it. After having been able to encounter you in RUclips and receive some very wanted advice on uplifting my excellence (I never received a formal art training) I am ready to thank you for your help and dedication and above all helping me to achieve my goal! It is about time, I am 90 years old and now able 'retouch' older artwork of mine and not being ashamed of creations I am leaving behind. Thank you so much my friend!
Probably the best traditional instruction and artist on 'RUclips'. Always very articulate and explaining every stroke he makes.. Thank you .
I was fascinated watching this demo and found it extremely instructive. I have painted several portraits using the academic approach and enjoy its laid-back style. My variation is to paint my linear drawing direct upon the canvas rather than use a tracing but both work, Thank you so much for these wonderful, clearly explained, and well executed masterpieces tha you do for us.
Thank you so much for the real time verbal breakdown of your process. Your technique is very pragmatic and useful. I especially like in the beginning of the process when you talk about using mainly straight lines to simply capture the shapes and boundaries of the figure. I don't know if I've ever worked this way before but it makes sense! Now that I think of it, I've been using landmark dots to help me plot curves, but I think this technique will be a nice new approach to add to my strategies for constructing basic shapes. The vine charcoal also wipes away very easily and completely and I love that. I find subtraction to be a great way to work. As a teacher myself , I am inspired by you and will pass this knowledge on. Thanks again from Albuquerque!
Thank you so much, you are anazing and truly appreciated and you inspire me. Always love to paint, now with your instructions I can do and being retired. Thanks again. 💌💌
I’m so glad this video is helping you! Best wishes on your artwork ☺️
You sure have given me more than several new ways to transfer drawings to canvas. I either draw portraits on paper. I use pastels paints. I did not realize a water mix a oil paint. Thank you very much for your tutorial.
I really appreciate these videos. Please do more in the academic style. Thank you.
Спасибо Вам огромное за такой подробный урок написания портрета !!! Снято все хорошо -близко, подробно ! ВАМ больших творческих успехов !
Wonderful tutorial 🙌🏼
I was in a rutine with my painting, an accually not really knowing how to approach my subject. Your video gave me inspiration and structure that I needed. Thank you
Fabulous tutorial, Thank you for the great commentary along with the painting.
you are an excellent artist and teacher! Thank you
Coming from a professional background in the arts as a retired teacher from a university in California, it is my opinion that you are one of the best master portrait artists I have ever come across. Your work is outstanding and your teaching is excellent. Awesome! Thank YOU for sharing your talent and love and passion for painting with the whole world! May you be blessed in all you do! 🤗🌈❤️😊👍
This one is wonderful
Very nice portrait, it has life! I never realized before that sap green mixed with alizarin or cad red can make a much nicer brown tone than is available in a tube. Thank you!
Once again thank you Maestro, very useful demonstration and excellent work,as usual
Fantastic tutorial
The first time i heard about water mixed Oilpaint....Thank you
i been doing Acrylic for a long time and now i am really thinking of doing oil ... you make it look like its so easy
Thnx your videos are a great inspiration !
Great great tutorial. Thank you sir. Stay blessed.
Fantastic thank so much for sharing! ❤️
Enjoyed watching your video. Very informative. Thanks.
Excellent tutorial
Merci pour ce très beau partage. Très belle vidéo.👍
Your videos are so helpful. Thank you,
Hi just found you and I love your teaching and work shanks so much from Australia xx
Great work, but i draw directly on the canvas with charcoal.
Any measuring or correction to be done I do it on the lightly toned canvas . But everything else as for the 3 stages I follow. What you have here is indeed the academic process.
The deadlayer in white gives the subject a luminosity that show through the skin. The Flemish painters took the white under layer to another level. It was really nice to see the classical technique .
Thanks yet again for your priceless advice. What I got from this that I can use is your advice on subtle changes in the relation between the plains. I like it when you say , " the zygamatic ". Lol. I really like the technical approach and the way you work with color , I'm terrible with color. 🙂👌
Great stuff
Wonderful video.
Wow amazing 😍
Very osm brother
waw looks great
You are so freakin helpful... AWESOME! Thank you so much fer sharin yer processes!!!

Amazing
Good tutorial thanks
Você é sensacional, te admiro ,gostaria de pintar como você mestre.
Why are you using zinc white with burnt umber instead of titanium white? because of its transparency?

Hello Yupari Artist! Hm I was wondering: you probably also paint from photographs sometimes. Do you have any thoughts on this? Use a tablet? What lighting etc....
Yupari You are great, so many thanks for the tutorial; but I'm stupid so i did not understand how You have got the tone for the darkest shadow face ... I hope You could help me ..many thanks
Please don't delete his video. It's really too important to do so. You could add a disclaimer at the top? I despise W&N watermixable oils by the way. But I love Cobra and Grumbacher.
Would it be just fine to make an underpainting with burnt umber and titanium white and subsequently add layers of coloured glazes on top of the dryed brunaille?
Yes! An under painting with T White and B umber is good! Also, I think I used W&N Artisan oil colors here. I don’t recommend that brand at all, this painting never completely dried after glazing with the Artisan Medium... I’ve deleted a lot of my old videos that used this brand 😅 Please watch my most recent video for information on higher quality oil colors!
What type of camera do you use to film ?
It's easier to do the underpainting from a black-&-white photo, isn't it? You can see the values much better.
sorry to have subtitles in portuguese
Complimenti per i tuoi tutorial. Questa è una pittura su grisaglia?
she didn't blink once :O
Yupari hello is it possible to send you a picture to paint as a video subject? it is just a portrait (do not know the artist) but I have been wanting to pant her but I am not sure I can do it on my own. thank you please reply via the facebook page.
Hola yupari exelente video instructivo gracias pero no hablas español
fantastic! But proportions…..
Great explanations, great ideas, great demonstration... If you just paid a bit more of attention to the drawing you'd be an excellent portrait artist ;)
Thank you!
nice backhanded compliment
LegendaryVegan Gaming I hope it will serve him well ;) I like criticism when it helps me grow and that's what I try to give to others. I like what he does here in youtube. It's very useful to a lot of people. But he's got potential and he can reach a much better level. That's good to know, right? ;)
Guess I'm just too picky. I don't like the final result, and didn't like any of the steps along the way. This is just not how to paint.
