I love the idea of the bad guys winning. Would be cool to play a family member or a close friend of one of the adventurers that was in the party that failed to stop the threat or even unleashed it. Could be looking for redemption, maybe they survived and you’re seeking them, or just angry at the state of the world and want to save it.
I have the feeling we will get an official adventure in a similar spirit with Vecna. Before the change to the new/updated edition in 2 years, we will need something apocalyptic. And with the recent attention to Vecna plus the conspiracy theory video from Jorphdan, I'm almost convinced it will be Vecna!
I'm currently running all the FR campaigns for my kids, and I have a neat plan for how to use DFR: After they finish all the other campaigns, Vecna will be like "Fine, I'll do it myself." Then the parties from all the campaigns go to try and stop Vecna's followers from activating the obelisks while the Lv 20 heroes from their first campaign (Tyranny of Dragons) go to face Vecna himself. BUT the parties will FAIL to stop him activating the obelisks, resulting in him rewriting history into the Doomed setting. Then with THAT campaign, they'll have the chance to undo it and set the world back to how it was, all leading into a big final showdown with the Wispered One himself.
Hey Coding -- I hear you. No promises but we tentatively have plans for POD. Right now our focus is on Volume 3, Fall of Vecna. Then we hope to (much as Jorphdan suggested!) try to combine them into a single product that can be a single POD. There's a huge mark-up on POD that we, as creators, have no control of. But by making a single POD rather than 3 or 4 PODs we hope to save everyone some $$$ in the long-term. In the meanwhile, still hope you'll consider checking out some of the pdfs :)
@@TheScottMcclintock that sounds awesome! I’m going to pick up the PDFs from DMs Guild but I’m one of those people that just prefers physical game books. I have switched over to electronic format for novels that I read, but game books that I flip back-and-forth in, I just have to have a physical book.
This is one of the few DMs Guild books I've bought without giving it a second thought. I almost wish it was an "official" book so I could use it on D&D Beyond without homebrewing the material, but even as just a setting it's AMAZING. Thanks for covering it in detail Jorphdan!
Awesome!!! So thankful for another instalment of this series, and for your excellent and insightful summation thereof Jorphdan! After your last discussion of doomed FR I grabbed the first book and started writing a new campaign, drawing inspiration from the “mirror universe” episodes of Star Trek, with PC’s interacting with their evil counterparts and hopefully moving between realms in the future… if my plans survive first contact with my PC’s of course. I just ran my session zero, so this video couldn’t have come at a better time! Surprised I didn’t see the other parts on the DM’s Guild already, but that’s likely my fault for getting too excited, too quickly. I’m always happy to see a new spin on old favourites, especially running games for an experienced party looking for new challenges. At first I was going to move to a different campaign setting, but after putting in so much time in the FR, and my players being so familiar with the setting over multiple editions, hearing about this twist reawakened my creative spark! Thanks again Jorphdan! Great video as always!!! And I’m happy to hear there are more of my sloth brethren out there!
I like the idea of putting together a team of powerful NPCs. Like the party has to go and free or recruit them, and then manage the fall out when Larial Silverhand and Szass Tam start bickering and stuff like that. The idea of having just an epic final battle where the great mages of Toril band together to hold Vecna’s astral form in place so the party can fight him, Jarlaxel’s fleet sieging a corrupted Waterdeep and having reinforcements from the Eastern kingdoms arrive Rohan style. So metal.
I'm glad you clarified that Vecna was orchestrating things behind the scenes. In the last video you made on this, I was *super* confused - I thought you were saying that Vecna was the villain in the Tomb of Annihilation, *instead* of Acerak, which didn't seem right.
I actually think mage slayer compliments the rogue. It gives the rogue everything that turns his feet from meh to "that's useful". The mage can't cast spells without getting popped and the rogue gets advantage to save against spells. Cast hold person so you can get away? Nope rogue steals it and puts it on a wizard who is not known for wis saves. The rogue essentially takes everything wizards use to defend themselves besides thunderstep and turns it against them.
Love the concept, wish there were more subclasses was geared towards the other factions such as for the demons and cult of the dragon. I know wouldnt take much as priest for the cult or mage/warlock for demon but.....

The whole “Doomed Forgotten Realms” looks really cool, however I wish they made POD versions of them as I really dislike PDFs/eformat game books.
