    I had a Spelljammer campaign in Ravenloft. It took place on the moos above the Domains. Since each domain has its own moon I could do whatever creepy thing I wanted.

    I feel like Dark Sun should be an area where players should be able to get there, but not able to leave. I could see a campaign where a group of Spell Jammers being stranded in that world, trying to find a way home

    • @RipOffProductionsLLC
      @RipOffProductionsLLC 8 месяцев назад +2

      A Spelljamming crew stranded on Athas would be in a very bad state, any clerics would be 100% cut off from their gods, the question of if arcane casters would need to comply with defilier/preserver dichotomy, and even if they don't, the locals aren't going to care and will treat them as such.
      Sure they might benefit from possession of mighty tools and weapons far beyond anything natives if Athas can craft... but that too is a double edged sword, as even something as simple as a suit of full plate would be a death sentence in the desert, and paint a huge target on them in the cities...
      And that's before we even consider what happens if the Sorcerer Kings learn about them and their origins. I'm not sure if they'd want to try and leave to conquer other spheres, or just want to stop the Jammers to prevent them from potentially alerting/bring more outsiders to Athas who might disrupt their comfortable rule over their citystates...

    • @mr7oclock346
      @mr7oclock346 7 месяцев назад

      @@RipOffProductionsLLC
      That would depend on the story the DM wants to tell. I feel like the idea of Dark Sun types finding out about Spell Jammers and trying to take over the universe would be a more interesting campaign than them wanting to keep their city states secret.
      If you're characters are trapped on that kind of world, they may even have to consider destroying their Spell Jammer to keep if from falling into the wrong hands.

    • @RipOffProductionsLLC
      @RipOffProductionsLLC 7 месяцев назад

      @@mr7oclock346 I could also see a "whoever wins, we loose" situation involving Mind Flayers, after all, I'm sure they'd be very interested in a world that produces so many powerful Psionics, and maybe their activities around Athas would be what draws the attention of the PCs and/or whoever gave them the quest.

    If I remember correctly the setting of Dark sun could be reached by Spelljammer but the crystal sphere that housed it was, for certain reasons, extremely hostile, dangerous and difficult to navigate, so everything or almost everyone who entered did not leave. So it was technically possible to reach, in practice it was almost suicidal. That is, if the ship managed to get inside it in the first place.

    We always added a house rule in adnd spelljammer to help clerics. We called it "godspact". Deities would obviously know other realms exist. Gods of similar alignment forged pacts agreeing to lend power to similar counterparts.
    Lawful good Deities for example would be happy to help good characters from another realm, and would know their followers would be looked after in kind.

      That’s a great idea. It not only simplifies things for players, it suggests some interesting divine politics the player characters can get caught up in.

    Hello Jordan, WotC didn't decide that Dark*Sun is closed. It's part of the storyline, always has been. It's the main reason why there is no gods in Dark*Sun. They couldn't escape the Dark*Sun realm. The few that did escape, it was a one way trip into the unknown! I doubt any of them survived. Now that I have Spelljammer, Dark*Sun is next on my wishlist.
    Thanks Jordan you have a wonderful day!

    Greyhawk is just what the Greeks thought the universe was like, geocentric. The "planets" (Greek πλανήτης, aka "planetes") just meant "wanderer." They were named that because they looked like stars, but they moved relative to the background stars. The Sun and Moon did not look "star-like" do in general they were considered their own things (but were sometimes added to the list along the five planets you can see with the naked eye).

    Personally I love the theory that Githyanki went to raid Athas, realized it was a death world with no gods and psionic everything, and decided to not only turn around and swear off the crystal sphere, but to actively blockade the sphere to prevent spelljamming technology from reaching Athas, for fear of who or what might make it offworld.

    Ravenloft is one of the easiest settings to integrate with any other. There are a few things to keep in mind:
    1: Ravenloft is not within a crystal sphere. You can't get there through the phlogiston. The mists do reach into wildspace, though. In that respect, it's not unlike planar travel. Just keep in mind that...
    2: The mists are a one way trip. Getting out should be high priority for PCs, at least for good aligned ones. Evil PCs can have a grand old time there. If they get really powerful, however, you can always just...
    3: Make a domain for them. I swear, I did this for someone once, and expected they'd get pissed off, but they reacted like all their christmas wishes came true at once.

    An interesting bit of trivia, though it's a little pedantic (apologies for that)- There's one single place where the world of Oerth has a 365-day year, and SJR6 "Greyspace" accidentally copied that in error (or unknowingly made the error on its own). In all other sources, there is no odd day at the end, and the months and moon phases all line up evenly to make a 364-day year of 12 months of 28 days, and four seven-day festivals.
    Holidays always fall on the same days of the year, moon phases are always precisely full on the same day of the year, etc.
    It still warrants that "how convenient" remark, though! LOL! 🤣😉

    As in 5e there's no crystal sphere around planetary systems, I dont think this superheat barrier would apply anymore. Maybe?
    In the latest Spelljammer edition, wildspaces are more like bubbles and one could just sail from one to another.

    Athas is reachable via Spelljammer. It is described as a “Closed” Crystal Sphere.
    In Nethril Empire of Magic you have Proctiv’s Breach Crystal Sphere and it’s reverse of Proctiv’s Seal Crystal Sphere. Athas is example of a closed sphere. So by canon it could be done. Mystara is the same except that was done via Immortal decree.

      Any spell that would take you to the astral plane works in wildspace. It would not work within the phlogiston, as that is cut off from all planar travel.
