    The lightweight versions are great! It's interesting hearing such a direct comparsion and personal use cases. I have an OG manix2 with the saber ground 154cm steel. Personally, I love the steel and haven't had any real downside to the grind. I do enjoy full flat in spyderco's smaller blades because of how it seems to keep the rest of the leaf shape out of the way. I have found that I like the g10 handles with full steel scales because of the extra jimping and hardiness. I end up using this knife a lot for simple gardening and yardwork and the extra grip thickness and jimping make it very easy to handle with gloves and I've never felt like I couldn't hack some heavy tomato plants when needed. Obviously the lock design and spyderhole work great with gloves regardless and it's good to hear that the lightweight handles seem solid in outdoor work. I like the sturdiness, personally, of the g10 version for outdoor work, but the lightweight makes a lot of sense for longer hiking or backpacking. That being said, small hands beware, that grip is a beast. I have average size hands and it's a grip filler!

    I just ordered the normal g10, s30v one and I couldn't agree more. I really spent A LOT of time searching for the best standard size modern folder for me and the manix 2 is the clear answer.

    I agree Aaron, Spyderco knives are my favorite pocket knives!
    Been carrying them for decades, and for the past several years I've been using one of their Pacific Salt 2 knives with a black blade.

    For years I stayed away from #Spyderco, I just thought they looked strange. But my favorites for EDC loadout are the Manix 2 with BD1 steel/blue translucent handle & the one you show, the Grey one with Maximet steel. The axis lock is great on both. Alot of Spyderco owners do an underside middle finger flick, I don't. Your review is the best on #RUclips.

    I absolutely love this video and your points. It's so funny that I was just thinking about making a video on this knife and why it's still my favorite knife of all time, at least for me. It's nice to see I'm not alone. I'm more of the steel and black original version with weight. The Manix 2 is a beast for me. Had all others brand and styles but none perform and feel like this knife.

    I bought a Manix 2 LW s110v because of this review. The way the blade swings freely with the button pulled back makes it very fidgety. I have very large hands and the handle feels great in all positions. The point is frighteningly acute as well. It is a really amazing design.

    Spyderco knives have been my goto for a couple decades. My current favorites are the PM series (2s and 3s) and the various Dragonfly versions, IMO one of the best EDC knives ever made. I think I have 6 or 7 of them now, going back to the original design. Curious what you think of the Dragonfly, and if you've ever done a review on them.

    I also gravitate towards the lightweight versions of spyderco knives. The bi-directional handle feels more ergonomical, comfortable, grippier, and warmer. Right now my favorite is the endela and a close second is the new salt with the lc200 steel.

    @jesseherbert2585 Год назад +2

    Nice review, I've had my Manix 2 lightweight in SPY27 around a year now and still loving it for EDC and around my house. I just don't like weight dragging my pants down my skinny ass and this fits the bill perfectly. I added a glowing paracord snake knot lanyard and super bright glow tape on bottom/base back section (tape is on Ebay/Amazon and allows visibility till dawn from nothing but ambient light, super helpful if dropped in the woods for example). Have not even sharpened yet given my relatively infrequent use and it is about time to touch it up...anyone know the angle on this? I intend to do this justice when I go to the stone. Overall I agree with the glowing reviews, and the lightness is an absolute joy to feel given how capable it is.
    PS I agree with the Nick Shabaz (sp?) review in that I filed the hole edge to smooth it out to avoid being cut when using it to flick open. If they could smooth this out at the factory it would be sweet. Oh, and the slim profile overall makes for easy removal/replacement in pocket, and looks less bulky riding there...
    PS Anyone have a favorite sharpening method with this in particular?

    Man, this knife is so under promoted. It's ergonomics alone are worth getting the knife. When you need to put pressure on the knife that's what it feels like it was made to do. It gets sharp easily, stays sharp and it's got a great blade shape and is even fun to sharpen. It fits my bigger hands perfectly. I used to carry benchmade but this is the knife (I have the regular one not lightweight) has secured Spyderco knives as the knife I carry. The pocket clip on mine is super durable and strong. I can't say enough about it. Love the lock too.

    I have an all black cpm s30v manix 2, and I just bought some burnt bronze AWT scales with a blue flytanium cage. There's already an anodized blurple lynch clip on there. I think the bronze scales are going to look so nice and really make that blue cage pop.

  • @supporterofsanity

    I have this Manix. Mostly agree and love it. The blade is a razor laser! The choil is big enough for my fingers and it keeps my finger of the sharpened part of the blade, this is the case with most choils where the meat of my finger ends up too close to the edge. Wire clip is a win! The only issue I have is lock release doesn't have enough throw (bottoms out) and the blade ever so slightly hangs up. Not bad enough for me to send it back but its annoying. I was hoping after 2 months of use it would break in or something but no.

    I love mine. The only problem I have with it is I've broken the tip off twice. I can't remember what I did the first time when I broke the very tip of it off. It wasn't anything crazy, I was shocked that it actually broke. And then I further broke the tip off when I was cutting the sheathing off of a welding lead. So there was about a quarter to 3/8 in broken off the tip of that knife in two separate incidents. It's currently back in Spyderco being reground.

    • @scotteger6271
      @scotteger6271 Год назад

      I’ve sharpened S110v…it’s not bad but I would recommend a lower grit option to start…if you’re using something like a KME get the 50 grit Beast diamond hone…if you’re using something like the Spyderco sharpmaker I’d get the diamond or cubic boron nitride stones. These just help to develop the burr much more quickly and lead to a better edge overall.

    Also an important thing I want to add that someone has pointed out in a forum is that the manix 2 has 2 screws near the pivot whereas the xl only has one therefore is prone to blade play

    I love my Paramilitary 2 but if I had to choose just one it would be the Manix 2 LW. I love the wire pocket clip and that it has more belly than the Para 2. Aaron 13% of us are lefties 😉👍

    It carries great.
    Clip- great, weight perfectly balanced over that big handle.
    I often forget it is there.
    U can clip it in our boxers and go to sleep 😂

    Should one of these models open, close and lock release as loosely as yours is doing in this video? I purchased one and it is extremely stiff. Is there an adjustment that I need to know about?

      You should be able to tweak the screws the blade pivots around and loosen it up. I’d use some blue lock-tite on it

    I have a Manix 2 in S30V and G10 and LOVE it. I’m really really wanting one of these lightweight’s in the SPY steel. I can’t believe that with knives this nice at this price that people still buy garbage ass benchmades for much more money and half the quality.

    G10 and s110v version here. It's a great tool but it's not an edc knife for me. It's just way too big. The LW version you have would be better in different ways but it's still too big for edc for me. I keep things in both pockets and with the manix I cannot get into my pockets without taking it out and that's not idea. But Its a great user and I've used it for some big tasks that it excelled in like cutting carpet etc. I prefer a endura or Delica slimmer size for edc.

    Great pick. I go to the Manix 2 XL myself. The lock is so simple, smooth, and solid. Handle ergs are extraordinary. Fav is the S90V and carbon fiber scale version. Only niggle is how wide it is when folded, really makes it difficult to stick your hand past it into your pocket. Considering a belt pouch for it.

    I'm here to see if GT can provide me the reasons I think I already have for getting a manix 2 LW Blacked Out, as I work in a job where visibility is a concern and can't carry a fixed blade but still have to make contact with people of unknown intentions in seedy areas (security patrol) I feel like this video has a no frills approach as to why I should
    So thank you kindly

    This is a awesome knife and you had alot of really good points but the one thing that didn't sit well with me is that for how much money I spent on this knife it has slight side to side blade play I have knifes in my collection that costed less and had no blade play I don't understand why Spyderco would go all out on the fit and finish and design this knife with blade play and I Know it wasn't just my knife neither because I seen reviews that said the same thing to other than that I agree on all your points it's a perfect size and a beautiful knife

    Could you review a Benchmade Presido 2, and compare it to the Manix 2? Thank you.

    • @tacticalcenter8658
      @tacticalcenter8658 3 года назад

      Benchmade will burn the edge so bad you'll have to sharpen it 20 times just to get to good steel and find out the heat treatment on the good steel isn't to spyderco level. Benchmade also known for axis springs breaking and poor qc. With that said spyderco had some pretty poor qc from time to time also but they are not known for it like Benchmade is.

    I much prefer the ball bearing lock to the axis lock (I prefer the higher tension) . I believe the springs are more reliable as well.

    • @knivesinedc
      @knivesinedc 3 года назад +3

      Another plus that I found to the CBBL was a far more reliable engagement while really dirty. The round surface of the ball bearing pushes dirt out of the way far more effectively than the Axis lock. Even when caked with mud, my old manix 2 never failed to lock
