    I have a para 3LW in BD1N and SPY27, It is my normal use EDC. Had issues with BD1N rolling. No issues with SPY27 rolling. This is under what I would consider normal knife use, not abused.

    This steel grows on you. I have put a few edges on my Para3 just to see if performance increases. I think it sharpens like a lot like 14c28n. So far I haven’t seen any real improvements but I want to do a few more edges. Great video as always!

    I regularly pick up my SPY27 para3 over my BD1N and S30V para3s. I love my BD1N but SPY27 just has more edge retention and still strops just as well. My original experience I said it was like XHP and BD1N had a baby I knew after your 30 days of you would change your mind.

    Which do you like better, the spyderco manix 2 spy27 or kershaw link 20cv? I just sold my link for 45$ and bought the manix 2 for 85$ at a pawn shop. I really liked the kershaw link 20cv it was easy to sharpen and stayed sharp for a long time however the manix 2 was dull and took me a long time to sharpen. i always wanted a good spyderco in k390 but settled for this knife. I will most likely buy another kershaw link 20cv and have both knives. I want to buy 1 to 2 knives a month that are good.

      Stick with the manix and get yourself some good sharpening supplies (the dmt magnaguide system is solid, all of Worksharp’s products are excellent).
      20cv is a great steel as far as edge retention goes, but can be tedious to sharpen. SPY27 is an all-around great steel that’s excellent for people new to sharpening.
      If given the choice, I’d carry the manix lw. It’s an excellent design. I picked up one up over a year ago and it’s performed flawless so far.

      @@godforever27 if you are having a tough time sharpening, watch some videos on sharpening advice. Specifically - using a sharpie to color the edge to see where your sharpener is hitting. Set the sharpener to 20 degrees per side and focus on being consistent with the strokes of the diamond plates, making sure you aren’t putting too much pressure on the sharpener.

    I have asked this a few places what would you choose: manix 2, sage 5 lw, para 3 or mini griptilian? Edc use but want something fun and also sturdy need for a little tougher things at times.

    • @CNYKnifeNerd
      @CNYKnifeNerd 3 года назад +2

      Other than the sage, those are about as different as they come. I have all of them except the sage 5, but I have one of those on the way.
      Manix 2 is gonna be the toughest, and also could be the most "fun" depending on what makes a knife fun to you.
      Mini grip is quite a bit smaller than the rest. Much smaller than the "on paper" numbers may lead you to believe. My hands are too big to have done any significant testing with mine, but the full size griptilian is likely to fit everything you're looking for, so I assume the mini would too as long as you like small knives.
      The para 3 is a great knife. It's small in pocket, and on paper, but it's always been big enough to do everything I've ever needed a folding knife to do. Para 3 also has the most steel options available.
      I have a sage 5 on the way, but it's the Ti Maxamet one, so I can't speak to the sage 5 lw at all.
      If I had to choose ONE out of the ones you listed that I've used, it would definitely be the manix 2. You won't go wrong by picking any of them, though.

    • @Outpost_76
      @Outpost_76  3 года назад

      Yes, different steels feel different at the same points of use or think of it as different apex degradation in how the break down occurs. Like S110V for example, feels dull.to the touch relatively quickly but cuts for an extended time after that point. I'm going to cover this in a video about wear resistance.

    Color me NOT a fan. I've recently been cutting up LOTS of cardboard. As in constant cutting for multiple hours at a time. I've used a bunch of different brands, steels, factory and my edges. Despite my best efforts and even with stropping in between s27 just couldn't come close to my s30v with similar blade profiles. Not even in the same ballpark. Its like a minor leaguer going against the majors.

      Pricing breaks down differently than that, labor or time to manufacture and distribute is the majority of the cost. Some materials like certain steels,Maxamet, K390, Vancron Superclean, etc are also a part of the cost. Handle materials are a very small portion of that overall price.
