      If it doesn't get a proper ending they've got no one to blame but themselves. Making the first game in a new franchise end in a cliffhanger is bad enough, but to stick with the plan of spreading the story over a bunch of sequels in their situation is just stupid.

    To be fair, this game was made solely by Gunfire Games, the first two darksiders titles were made by Gunfire with the help of Vigil games, so they are working with half a team size, which even with the bugs and loading black screens, they did a really good job keeping up telling the story and keeping the gameplay fresh.

    I started Darksiders 3 (PC) several weeks ago when it came out, and was enjoying it, but 'crash on autosave' and a more punishing difficulty on 'Balanced' difficulty (essentially Normal) caused me to stop playing temporarily. From the patch notes, it seems like they fixed my biggest issues, I'll have to wait and see. The biggest issue I have is that the combat seems skewed towards Arkane Counters (attack after dodge) -- particularly in some boss fights -- which makes a lot of the combat and levelling seem heavily weighted towards a particular playstyle.

    This game highkey killed the series☹
    They found that Golden Formula in the second; they took a little from DMC, a dash of Bayonetta, Diablo inspired system mechanics, Prince of Persia Platforming, and Zelda still out there teaching it stuff.
    Why would trade all that to be just another souls clone?
    All they had to do was refine the system; give us enemies that respond to the elemental buffs you give us (rock, paper, scissors), make the DT more relevant (maybe available in short bursts when your playing good, which makes the combo metre relevant for the first time), Zoom out the camera a bit more, maybe make dodge-offsetting combos, animation cancelling for better combo setups, and so much more....but no lets be a bloody Souls clone, glad I didn't play this or buy it. Would've broken my heart.😢

    As for how it sold I have good news... Darksiders 3 was budgeted to only need to sell 100,000 copies to make back THQNordic's investment (this was from the CEO of THQNordic... also for comparison old THQ had hoped to get 4 million sales from Darksiders 2). They sold about that on Steam alone (100,000)... so I must assume by now between all platforms they had to have sold at least around 500,000 copies which would mean we are for sure getting Darksiders 4.

    I can say I played base PS4 at launch and never had a major issue, really only loading times but they never really got to me that much (I have since upgraded to a PS4 Pro and the loading times did decrease on that). A couple non-combat slow downs and it did crash on me 3 times (but I was back-grounding it a lot at the times it happened). But as you said most issues that people did have got patched... heck they even added in "Classic Mode" that changes the combat and health system more in line with previous entries.

  • @GameLoot
    @GameLoot 5 лет назад +1

    For your last thoughts I think we will get more style and more content in Darksiders 4... you have to understand 3 was made by a much smaller team, in a shorter time, and on a much smaller budget then 1 and especially 2. Also they could to sue any old assets due to switching from their own made engine to Unreal Engine 3 (so all assets had to be made from scratch)... BUT now that they have this base to work from 4 should be much more the game everyone who did not know about how the franchise died and was revived on a small budget wanted.

    As a longtine fan of the series, and even a lover of zelda and metroid games, i'd gotta say darksider 3 really is my favorite. But darksiders 2 has actually been sliding further down on recently replays. My most recent replay to get the remaining achievements on steam has actually been a genuine trial for me. Like, i have to drag myself through the dungeons and oversized, yet empty, map and tap out after i get through one and have to work myself up to jump back into it later. I don't even hate the game but ds2 has been slowly treading thin ice for me. I still love 1, and i'm LOVING my replay of Ds3. Genesis is still on my 'need to complete' list. But i do think 3 is my favorite of the series, followed by 1. If 2 didn't feel... bloated? At every single turn, i think i'd be more fond to it.
    But you know how you return to games and you remember 'oh... this part'? Well that's become the entire first and second region of darksiders 2.
    But 3? It's so snappy and quick to run-through.

The heart is there but the time, polish and well budget isnt. Also my first run of it ended because of a horrible glitch(game autosaved and when I rebooted I was stuck inside a stone with no way out for no reason.) Left a bad feeling with it. Great review man. I agree, I thoroughly enjoyed this game. I'm a big dark souls fan and did feel combat alone carries this entry. Every boss in 1 and 2 had a gimmick, whether you run harbinger or necromancer in 2 you have to fight every boss the same way. Going toe to toe with avarice and lust were so satisfying. I had to stop my last run through cause of a game breaking bug which has been fixed. My only gripe is how technically flawed it is. Doesnt look much better than the 2nd and yet loads so often. But I played vanilla bloodborne so the fast travel and death loads didn't bother me lol.

I'd like them to bring back a metroidvania vibe, and give it a feel between prime and other m (faster combat via OM, quality and adventure solving a la Prime). That said, they could go into a wildly original direction merely carry the style and narrative of the previous three, and I'd be ok with that too.

    Honestly, I really enjoy that every new instance of a game is a new genre. It's refreshing, every game in the franchise is not like the other wich is, in my opinion, one of its main appeal.
    I really looking forward for darksiders 4 where you'll play as Strife. What will it be? Mb a 3rd person shooter with melee combat? Or maybe a crazy combo-driven slasher like devil may cry?

    Boss, I would like to see you review , in earnest, Vanquish. I know you spoke of the hype-beast nature it has, but I feel like it is one of the most underrated titles that platinum has put out. I would like to hear your thoughts on it in a similar fashion to this on its pros and cons.

    Yep darksiders 3 is inspired by darksouls but it feels like an amateur attemp of a soulslike game.
    So much that it feels simplistic

    Finally someone genuine who understands the Darksiders franchise, and not some entitled game journalist who played the game for 5 mn, couldn't beat the tutorial, and decided that Darksiders 3 is trash.
    I went in with my expectations low, I actually was fooled by them reviews that the game might not be that good, but my love for the series drove me, and the more I played of Darksiders 3 the more fun i had, I couldn't find one thing to hate about it, with it's ups and downs, at core it is still a Darksiders game,with it's own identity and amazing atmosphere, and as a fan of the souls series, the mechanics borrowed where a welcomed addition for me.
    I love Darksiders 3, and I could careless what the the reviews said. Thanks for this video Matt.

    My constant rebuttals to the endless comparisons to dark Souls and God of war. Oh it's hard! Like dark Souls! Ive never played a game as hard as dark souls it's so uni... Me. "Oh you never played Jet Set Willy? No you didn't." Ok it's a rip off of God of war!! Yeah god of war.. Hmm. A hack n slash.. Yeah. You never played Legacy of Kain?.. But do remind me how God of war and it's seemingly endless stream of sequels was a genre starter. pre ordered D3 soon as i could. Always loved the darksiders series. I couldn't give a shit about Dark Souls or God of War.

    Rock on, bossman! I fucking love this game - hell, this franchise in general. D2 is still my favorite, but D3's approach to its own gameplay style kicks so much ass, I love it to death!
    Unfortunately, this franchise seems to be plagued with middle-shelf unfortunitis. Middling reviews when it comes out, which makes the game only reach a niche audience, and one to two years later people look back at it and think "Yo, that was actually fucking awesome", when it's too late for that revelation to make a difference.
    Gleefully looking forward to more, here, in this dirty flophouse!

    Also, with Strife's game, I hope they don't make it a 3rd person shooter... actually, I kinda hope Gunfire Games takes inspiration from Dante's Gunslinger style in Devil May Cry (or even Lady's gameplay in DMC4:SE), or Bayonetta's overall mix range combat. That'd be wicked as all hell.

    • @joaquimpereira4995
      @joaquimpereira4995 5 лет назад

      I hope it isn't that. Part of the fun of using guns is having to aim. Plus, Strife uses mainly guns so it just makes more sense.

    • @1Synner
      @1Synner 5 лет назад

      And something akin to Dante's gunslinger style wouldn't be awesome and fun? Just pure shooting and gun tricks? I'm sure there could also be a free aim mode for pinpoint shooting or through the use of a certain gun that DOESN'T have any tricks (since every Darksiders game has it for one reason or another), but if the gameplay is JUST a 3rd Person/1st person shooter ala Gears of War or pick-a-COD, it WON'T get a pass like any of the other Darksiders games.
