You can kinda get NG+. There's a harmless glitch you can do once you've completed the game to start a new game with an upgraded Max, Max's original double barrel and leather jacket (best shotgun and armor). Can't remember if you get the interceptor or not but yeah it's there and it's easy to do. Type it in YT there's a few guides on how to do it.
And a hundred games, to be honest. If the developer didn't protected it with legal actions we could've have a plethora of games with the fantastic nemesis system 🤷🏻
It'd be such a good source of comedy too, you take out a group of mob-level cars, then the leader returns, even more deranged, in a vehicle amalgamated from the wrecks of the previous group, is it a spike encrusted death machine or a mismatched wobbling scrapheap?
@@JarkkoProductionsmy google search says that the patent is held... By Warner Brothers, who also made this game right? They totally could have used something that they own.
I still think this game holds up to this day, it's an amazing game. The LORE is my favorite part of the game, exploring the airport, the desert, it is just so well put together.
Really wish this game had a sequel too, but also made canon to the Mad Max series, especially since in Furiosa Chumbucket actually makes a cameo. Unfortunately, considering George’s callous criticism of the game that weren’t the developers’ fault, I suspect that’ll never happen…
Bought it for £2 during an Xbox sale, not knowing a thing about it. I was genuinely shocked at how good it was. Xbox offers FPS boost too. Just beware, you can’t earn all achievements as one relies on online servers that are no longer there.
Might be the best movie franchise tie-in game I've ever played. It is pretty formulaic and video-gamey, but also incredibly solid. It's gorgeous, runs like butter, and is lots of fun. I heard the ending was decidedly off-putting so I never finished it, but I enjoyed every time I booted it up.
I actually love this game. I usually don't like open world games but this game is one of the exceptions, I played it almost nonstop to completion during holiday season.
It's a great game, and it even leans into its place outside of canon. One of the Griffa conversations has Max getting increasingly frustrated that he's can't remember if he was alive before the apocalypse, or whether he had a family.
Regardless of George Miller's feelings and others that probably never played the game, this was actually really fun and good. The car combat felt great and the melee focus combat fit the world better than it being a third person shooter like people wanted for no reason. If they made another one this would be bar they would need to pass.
I got this one from PlayStation Plus years ago and forgot about it. Recently went through a platinum run over the course of a few months and I genuinely forgot how good it was
Mad Max is not a perfect game. If anything its level design, checklist repetition, and uneven scrap currency make the game deeply flawed. But it’s also a damn good simulator of the Mad Max wasteland and that makes it quite underrated
As a non-fan of the franchise but fan of car combat games, I enjoyed nearly everything except for the ending. Upon hearning Max continuing his perpetual seach alone with his car was par for the course from franchise fams though, it made sense to me. I just don't fight the final boss when I back to the game :P
Funny seeing this upload, cause I literally JUST picked up and started playing the game again for the first time in years yesterday. I’ve been having a blast with it. I forgot how fun it was tbh. The map is pretty decent size with lots of things to do like races, camps, convoys, item collection, etc. The customization is great, you can upgrade and change almost every part of Max’s gear and the Magnum Opus. Your progression feels nice and balanced, it’s a nice feeling when you upgrade your knuckle dusters and can actually notice the difference in the damage you’re doing. The combat is awesome, very reminiscent of Shadow of Mordor/Shadow of War and the Arkham games. I find myself actually wanting to get into combat in this game cause it’s just that much fun to me. It’s simple, but addictive once you get it down. And the graphics aren’t that bad, the game still looks good and holds up today despite being nearly a decade old. All in all I think this game is great, not the greatest game of all time or anything, but definitely a fun one to jump in and watch things blow up. The fire and explosion effects in this game look incredible. It’s a very underrated game imo, as I almost never hear anyone talk about it outside of RUclipsrs making video essays about how good it is lol. I think it flew under a lot of people’s radar, mostly due to the fact that it’s a licensed video game based on a movie, which aren’t always that great, and due to the year it came out. 2015 was a big year for game releases: Metal Gear Solid V, The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Black Ops 3, Dying Light, Halo 5, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Mortal Kombat X, Battlefield Hardline, Just Cause 3, Super Mario Maker, etc. Needless to say there were a lot of big titles that came out that year, so Mad Max sadly got overlooked. Which is a shame because, to everyone’s surprise it actually turned out to be pretty fun.
Troubled developments often result in messy games that feel incomplete, but I honestly think Mad Max is the best open world game period. I keep going back to it about once a year because it just compels me to do it all again. I love the stronghold system and how it makes me feel like I'm playing a part of helping the vestiges of humanity live another few days. I can see how the combat draws comparisons to the Arkham games but it's just so perfect for the setting that I don't care. It's also extremely brutal, fitting the desperate scramble for survival of the wasteland. I was a day 1 stan for this game and I don't think anything would make me feel soured to it. I hope Miller reconsiders his statement because I'm sure Kojima could make an amazing Mad Max game, but this was the Mad Max game I always wanted.
I bought Mad Max during a Microsoft sale a couple years ago and had such a blast playing the game. I understood every character in the game despite never seeing any of the mad max movies. It sucks that mad max was released on the same day as MGS 5 practically killing the game. I hope someday one day WB games gives us a Series X PS5 upgrade much like Bethesda did with fallout 4
We all have games that we go back to like comfort food or that movie you know all the lines to. Fury Road is my favorite film and this game, flaws and all, is one of my favorite games of all time. It reminds of those random PS2 era GTA clones that you ended up playing completely because it's all you had so you defend it no matter how choppy it could be. This weird thing holds a special place in my heart.
No joke I loved this game. The only thing that held it back for me was the lack of a New Game Plus, because once you finish it, there's really just a big empty map left. The combat in this game was so crunchy.
I had a good time with that game, its starts a little rough with your car and max mad out of tissue paper but once you get a few upgrades its starts to be a tone of fun.
I've never seen a Mad Max film before, but when I heard how good this game was from so many people, I knew I had to play it. I had so much fun with it and it's a shame that it didn't succeed as much as it deserved upon launch 😢
Most of my steam games rot in the backlog forever, but I actually picked up this one last year and it's one of the few games I actually finished. Really fun, racing, car customization and hand-to-hand combat... absolutely my jam, good game
I had a heart attack cuz i thought you were gonna shit on the game lol. Loved this game in high school when it came out and loving it again on my steam deck, amazing that it can just run flawlessly on a handheld now
I think the mostly underrated aspect of the game is the setting. I love the idea of it taking place in a dried up seabed. lent itself to a lot or of interesting environments you don’t see in the films
I was hoping you had info on why they promised an infinitely generated open world and you could drive until you die or run out of gas. They hinted at it weeks before release only for it to NOT be in the game at all.
One of the best games ever so overlooked and underrated how good would a sequel be or upgrade? As I say great game if you never played it you need to .
I literally just walked out of Furiosa. All it really made me want to do was play this game and watch Fury Road because both of them are better lol This game was kind of a hidden gem though. It had the misfortune of coming out I believe the same day as Metal gear solid 5 so it was pretty much doomed to fall into obscurity almost immediately. But it is absolutely one of the better licensed games out there
Great video! One thing to note regarding JL: Mortal. Armie Hammer in an Interview with Kevin Smith for IMDB mentioned the reason for the project being dropped was due to Australia pulling the tax breaks for the film right before they were going to shoot the film. There were also questions about the quality of the film due to the 200+ page script that was rushed to completion to avoid the writer’s strike.
Absolutely. No idea what WB didn't throw out a Xbox Series/PS5 remaster with QoL improvements and DLC added in for $29.99 when Furiosa dropped. Easy sell.
@@MattMcMusclesit runs at up to 120fps on series X using FPS boost and uses quick resume and auto HDR too so I guess Xbox and pc users are eating better then ps5 guys.
The Max Max game is an underrated gem, it captured the look and vibe of the Mad Max universal perfectly. Still love playing the game, driving around in the wasteland is always fun.
The ending is one of the most insulting things regarding player agency I've ever seen. It just takes a giant dump on EVERYTHING you did during the story.
What do you mean? Except for a brief "distraction" in the final area of the game it fully revolves around a singular objective: getting the car back. The rest is just Max being the person that he is. Maybe you expected Max to be a different person than what he acted to be the entire game?
I can already see that there will be a What Happened to Homeworld 3. One for the original Shin Megami Tensei V would also be nice, just to know what went wrong during the development. After 5 years of silence, what we got was clearly unfinished and it was a bloody miracle what we got was as playable as it was. This just became clearer with the Vengance release which comes across far more as a finished game.
Now Scabrous Scrotus is making a lot more sense now that I've seen Furiosa. So it technically helps both that game and Fury Road fit into the same picture.
Nope, the game is still no canon to movies and Furiosa, because Glory The Child in Fury Road and 2015's game are different, same much with design and lore of mothers
Imagine what they could make if they allowed a Mad Max game to use the Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor. It could be so epic it's hard to wrap one's head around. Cheers!
3:29-4:09 An important detail you left out was that the writers strike held back production since a completed script wasn’t available and George Miller wanted one at the ready before. With Dark Knight is almost feels like a blessing and a curse since it made Batman popular but WB also thought having a different Batman in Justice League Mortal would confuse audiences
I don't like when open world games strip away upgrades you've earned from side missions once you return to main missions. This game also had an uncooperative camera during races.
I vividly remember getting this game for birthday alongside our first TV stereo with subwoofer... Perfect game for experiencing subwoofers for the first time on a TV... you could feel the engine of the magnum opus
The tale of this game, its development and the whole story behind the creation of it, is one of my favorites in all of video games, so thanks for covering it!
The big thing that didn't work in the 2015 game is that it doesn't feel like the Mad Max universe. The game should encourage the player in "exploring" and "losing himself" in the world (an inmersive world, no minimap, with many unscripted events similar to RDR2 but with the level of exploration of games like Elden Ring/Breath of the Wild). Still, the game was very solid for it's time but nowadays, a new game supervised by people like Kojima would be absolutely amazing.
I was deeply invested in this game, super hyped by the lead up to release, kept my ear to the ground for any news of DLC or updates, but it never hurts any less being reminded how everything played out in the end.
I bought it on a Steam sale a few months back and played through the game a week ago. It's a cool game, encountered a few bugs but it's a fun and often cinematic experience. The only thing I hated was how many upgrades were tied to story progression while I had unspent scraps. I still hope for a sequel.
I didn't watch video but some guys in comment section claims there's a cancelled dlc..i checked game files back then... there is two... one of them includes motorcycles
Got this game on sale 4 years ago on Xbox One and loved what I played of it! Now I should go back and beat it this month! Great Video As Always Matt! Keep it up!
Hi. First off, really good video and had some information I didn't know about. I wanted to speak up as someone who has a friend that worked on the production of the movie in an art capacity and therefore was aware of the game development and the concept art that was going out to Avalanche Studios. You're absolutely right to mention the assertion Miller was ignorant of game development; he's very old school (I was told he does *not* use email but rather fax machine and if forced to respond through email he'll take weeks to do so) and fundamentally knew *nothing* at all of how games are made or even what their structure should be. It's definitely something I can confirm (secondhand of course) that WB took control of the development of the game (which is why you get the Arkham combat system bolted in there) and wanted the game out ASAP for the movie, so we got iterations of the Warboys and then all communication ceased with Kennedy Miller Mitchell when they were insistent on hitting their particular deadline. Miller had a storyline (which eventually made its way into the various comics and collected graphic novel) involving the characters Hope and Glory. Though their *concept* makes it into the game, the storyline is wildly, vastly different though the game section of the abandoned aiport was a Miller idea, which is why that section plays extremely tightly. Gastown was still in production sketches and drawings which is why we never see that though I had heard there were plans to expand the game space. To hear about DLC crushes me because I can practically feel the potential and it's just sitting there now, not really doing anything. Anyways, I hope this adds a little more information for you and a bit more perspective.
Great game. I still come back to it every few years. I consider it a prequel to Fury Road. Explains Max's mental state leading up to the start of the film really well.
Gotta love it when publishers want all of their groceries in one bag but don’t want them to be heavy.
I'm absolutely going to use this phrase in the future.

@@JudgementNutterFeels like it definitely would’ve been added in DLC had the devs been given a chance, yeah. Hopefully someone comes by and makes a mod to enable a NG+ experience…
Pirating this game was one of the best decisions of my life; the game is really cool.
Not to mention, the platinum is basically unobtainable if you didn't complete some particularly tough radiant challenges before beating the story.

The nemesis system would have been an awesome addition to this game.
And a hundred games, to be honest. If the developer didn't protected it with legal actions we could've have a plethora of games with the fantastic nemesis system 🤷🏻
Im glad i wasn't the only one thinking that
It'd be such a good source of comedy too, you take out a group of mob-level cars, then the leader returns, even more deranged, in a vehicle amalgamated from the wrecks of the previous group, is it a spike encrusted death machine or a mismatched wobbling scrapheap?
@@JarkkoProductions... Man, now I really want a Monolith-made Mad Max game.
@@JarkkoProductionsmy google search says that the patent is held... By Warner Brothers, who also made this game right?
They totally could have used something that they own.
Mad Max is a top 5 game of all time in my book. Only open world game i beat 3 different times. Criminally underrated
Completely agree! I never play an open world game more than once, but Mad Max is the exception.
losing the DLC devastates me as the game was crying out for more content.
I still think this game holds up to this day, it's an amazing game. The LORE is my favorite part of the game, exploring the airport, the desert, it is just so well put together.
I really enjoyed this game when I had it. I played the heck out of it for a long time. I wish it had a sequel.
Really wish this game had a sequel too, but also made canon to the Mad Max series, especially since in Furiosa Chumbucket actually makes a cameo. Unfortunately, considering George’s callous criticism of the game that weren’t the developers’ fault, I suspect that’ll never happen…
Sequel was abandoned many years ago, sadly. You can find some mocap actors talking about working on the project back when it was still happening.
Bought it for £2 during an Xbox sale, not knowing a thing about it. I was genuinely shocked at how good it was. Xbox offers FPS boost too. Just beware, you can’t earn all achievements as one relies on online servers that are no longer there.
The FPS boost is pretty impressive too. Went from 30 fps to 120 fps. I’m not sure any other game got a 4x boost like that.
Boy it is just a miracle anything good every comes out of WB isn't it?
Might be the best movie franchise tie-in game I've ever played. It is pretty formulaic and video-gamey, but also incredibly solid. It's gorgeous, runs like butter, and is lots of fun. I heard the ending was decidedly off-putting so I never finished it, but I enjoyed every time I booted it up.
I put 70 hours into this. Built a beast of a car, never got bored.
A Mad Max game with the Nemesis system from Shadows of Mordor would be AMAZING.
The most shocking part of this video is finding out Happy Feet Two cost $135 million.
Like...how??? That's INSANE
I love that the episode of Reboot "Bad Bob" parodied Mad Max so well that it helped snowball the franchise into where it is now.
Matt McMuscles:
*WHAT A LOVELY DAY!!!*
i see what you did there
Witness it!
Indeed. It is. :)
How do you look at "Kojima's last Metal Gear" and say, "yeah, we could compete against that."
This game is endorsed by Rich Evans of Red letter media🎉
Nobody asked.
I remember i bought both mgsv and mad max, and was enjoying both at the same time... oh the good old days.
The extra dlc that was ready to go being cancelled literally made me say “wow” out loud
I love you for suggesting Blood, Sweat & Chrome. Such a fantastic book
The fact that Miller wants Kojima to do a Mad Max game shows he should stick to movies. No gamer wants Max turned into a walking simulator.
It came out during the release of Fallout 4 also kind of fulfilling everyone post apocalyptic it h
“Oh what a day, what a lovely day”
We all have games that we go back to like comfort food or that movie you know all the lines to.
CRIMINALLY underrated game. Not a masterpiece for sure but a truly enjoyable action game.
I had a good time with that game, its starts a little rough with your car and max mad out of tissue paper but once you get a few upgrades its starts to be a tone of fun.
Amazing game. Still play it currently
I've never seen a Mad Max film before, but when I heard how good this game was from so many people, I knew I had to play it. I had so much fun with it and it's a shame that it didn't succeed as much as it deserved upon launch 😢
This is one of my favorite games to play. Looks pretty decent. Plenty to do. Extremely underrated gem.
Loved this game in high school when it came out and loving it again on my steam deck, amazing that it can just run flawlessly on a handheld now
I had a blast playing this from start to finish. Wanted more when it ended!
I think the mostly underrated aspect of the game is the setting. I love the idea of it taking place in a dried up seabed. lent itself to a lot or of interesting environments you don’t see in the films
What Happened - DRIVER 3!
Mad Max is one of my favorite games and is always loaded up on my system.
I've played through it 4 times.
A great game
Man Chumbucket was such a good character. The black finger was one of my favorite game companions of all time.
I literally just walked out of Furiosa. All it really made me want to do was play this game and watch Fury Road because both of them are better lol
This game was kind of a hidden gem though. It had the misfortune of coming out I believe the same day as Metal gear solid 5 so it was pretty much doomed to fall into obscurity almost immediately. But it is absolutely one of the better licensed games out there
I LOVED this Mad Max game! Its story and places was all giving a movie feeling.
And it was about Mad Max himself, not Furiosa.
WB doesn't get nearly the same amount of shit from the gaming community as EA or Activision, it's past the time we fixed that.
Miller talking about videogame based on Mad Max while this one went under radar is nuts...
I genuinely thought you already covered this one. That's how you know a game has an infamous development cycle!
You should do a video on Rage 2.
Honestly a Hideo Kojima Mad Max game would be insane
I just beat this game a few days ago! Truly Underrated!
This game needs a PS5 update.
@@MattMcMusclesI got it for 5 dollars on Xbox Series S. It runs amazing
It's a tragic ending, but it definetely works.
What do you mean? Except for a brief "distraction" in the final area of the game it fully revolves around a singular objective: getting the car back. The rest is just Max being the person that he is. Maybe you expected Max to be a different person than what he acted to be the entire game?
@@qwesxhe’s referring the your car being destroyed, I’m assuming.
Chumbucket is in "Furiosa", too
Nope, the game is still no canon to movies and Furiosa, because Glory The Child in Fury Road and 2015's game are different, same much with design and lore of mothers
Imagine what they could make if they allowed a Mad Max game to use the Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor. It could be so epic it's hard to wrap one's head around.
Cheers!

An important detail you left out was that the writers strike held back production since a completed script wasn’t available and George Miller wanted one at the ready before. With Dark Knight is almost feels like a blessing and a curse since it made Batman popular but WB also thought having a different Batman in Justice League Mortal would confuse audiences
I was so pissed at Georges comments about this game that I blacklisted Furiosa. This game is amazing.
I don't like when open world games strip away upgrades you've earned from side missions once you return to main missions. This game also had an uncooperative camera during races.
The sand storms in this game are immense.
I finally did a full play-through of this earlier this year after only getting halfway through when it was new. I loved it!
crazy timing Mr Matt, I just re-installed and played mad max on Friday :D Love that game!
If you haven't play it yet, do it, you won't regret it. I got all the achievements and trophies but I still play it every now and then.
This is a game I wish I can wipe my mind and play for the first time again. Just an overall good time playing this. ❤
