    Hey Richard, I've just recently discovered your channel and I'm very impressed with your playing, tones, recordings. Sometimes I'm watching just to steal some of your chord voicings. With regards to your studio setup, how do you monitor yourself while you're recording? Studio monitors, headphones, etc? How close does what you hear in your studio, sound to what is on the video's audio track? I often wonder how guys who do these youtube videos (Shawn Tubbs, Pete Thorn for example) of gear reviews, lessons and so on, listen to themselves in the studio. I hope my question makes some sense?

    • @RichardWatson
      @RichardWatson  2 года назад

      Hey Chris!
      I nearly always use my studio monitors when tracking. I will use headphones for acoustic but always prefer to hear the guitar "in the room" when recording electric guitars.
      I'd say what I'm hearing is pretty close to what you hear in the video, just a little bit more reverberant as my room is not acoustically treated and is generally quite a reflective space! Guys like Shawn and Pete have rooms that are much better controlled in terms of their acoustics.
      I've find I really like tracking using the stereo sends in my DAW for the wet effects (kinda a faux Wet/Dry/Wet rig) - for me, it's more inspiring to play than a straight mono signal.
      Hope that helps!

    Quick question: at 8:20ish you're talking about having separate busses for the micro-pitch-shift, delays and reverb. Does that mean that the micro-pitch-shift and delays don't get any reverb?

    • @RichardWatson
      @RichardWatson  2 года назад +1

      Technically, yes! It's basically like running all effects in parallel - they don't interact with each other. You could easily have two or more effects in the same bus (like Pitch Shift and Reverb) if you wanted interplay between them though.

    • @RichardWatson
      @RichardWatson  2 года назад +1

      You could even route a send from one effects bus into another. The routing options in a DAW are really flexible so it's quite tidy solution for effects management!

      @@RichardWatson Thanks for the quick reply - that's really interesting. Was very impressed by the sounds you were getting. Have you tried other load+IR boxes? I have a TwoNotes Torpedo (which I must admit I really like) but I've heard a lot of people sing the praises of the Suhr. Do you think it's worth the upgrade?

  • @godbyone
    @godbyone 2 года назад

    You’ve seemed to have tried (effects ) everything. I was wondering with pedals getting so good. Do u think pedals can get close to lexicon pcm 70. Now. I’ve think of selling it.

    • @RichardWatson
      @RichardWatson  2 года назад +1

      Ah man! Pedals are fantastic these days but I think if I owned a PCM70 I would hold onto it. There's definitely stomp boxes that can replicate the characteristics of old rack gear (I still love the Eventide Factor Series), but from what I understand, the components in a lot of those old pieces add up to some magic that's tough to replicate 100%.
      You're talking small differences (and nothing that an audience would notice) but if I owned any old rack gear myself - I'd definitely keep it. If only because they're such iconic pieces from the golden era of session tones!
      Eventually I plan to pick up an Eventide Eclipse V4 for post processing. Maybe even run that into a power amp for a W/D/W live setup! It's a rabbit hole, man!
