Agree completely HC simple but super effective. Pop guitar playing is about catchy pleasant sounding guitar work not a bunch of shredding and showing off. You can do masterful work on the guitar in pop music look at Steve Lukather and all the great pop riffs Beat it and the solo on Running with the Night is amazing. Michael and Janet Jackson had a ton of great riffs added to their songs like Black Cat so many others. Prince and so many others had great parts. Justin deserves a lot of credit because when Pink is playing a sold out show his guitar work really elevates the sound of the show.
I’m 50 years old and grew up on 80s music Bon Jovi, Guns and roses, skid row and motley crew just to name a few there are many but I name them all. I went to a Pink concert with my kids a few years ago in Australia and she blew me away her vocals and the band where absolutely amazing. Justin you are great guitarist 👍🇦🇺
I grew up in the same town as Justin and we frequented the same local guitar shop. I was just a high school kid, but Justin was always so kind and gracious. He was an amazing player then, and has just gotten better and better over the years. Great interview!
He's got that perfect attitude and ear for staying out of the way of the singer ... yet,. competely making the songs with the right tones and parts. He reminds me of Tim Perse in terms of his ability to augment the song perfectly. Guitarist like this are truly rare and so underrated.
Some people just instinctively or intuitively know what sounds right where, and when, and are in touch with the nuances necessary to make it happen on demand. I so respect people like Justin who are at this level. A lot of it can be learned, but the greats just seem to have it.
Thanks for one more excellent video / interview. I like these series a lot and learn so much from them. Keep up the good work and we definitely need more of these presentations.
I'm glad that we are recognizing P!nk songs they are actually really fun to play on guitar great guitar songs, I didn't know him but kudos to him! A true pro!
Justin is just a monstrous player. I am amazed how many songs they have to learn for The Voice and he just nails everything. Great video again Mason 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
It's always a treat to hear Justin's process. I love his playing and his attitude toward it. One of the hardest working guitarists out there. Well done.
Wow.. you are awesome man... espacially i like this pure simple strate and powerful guitar you play... evendough you are a master 🙏 thats sooo great 🙏 peace from Switzerland
Man what a beast Justin is! Such beauty in the simplicity in terms of the parts he plays but definitely not the ability, lol this dude has plenty of chops and groove but such a professional in the way he approaches the music 🔥🔥🔥
Ever since I saw the video of him with pink and she was singing Led Zeppelin… I have been obsessed with him. Just from his face throughout that whole song. 🔥 Didn’t notice his guitar playing. 😂
What a great guy and what a great interview. He confirms my feelings about Pink in so many ways: decent people with an incredible amount of talent creating musical gifts for the world. And as a guitarplayer myself, I loved every bit of sound coming out of his guitars, but when that Telecaster started singing... wow!
Genuinely one of the best guitar players on the planet. Incredibly versatile, can shred, chicken pick like an absolute monster, play rock, metal etc. I remember him on Tim Pierce and Pete Thorn's guitar show a few years back, and Pete Thorn just laughing in astonishment at what he was playing during their jam.
Easily one of my absolute favorite guitar videos on RUclips. The guy from Vertex does an amazing job leading through the conversation and lets Justin shine. It's great to get in in depth insight into his sound and playing. I enjoyed every second of it.
Very interesting interview, super sounding guitar tones, killing guitars, equipments gear and demos! Guys, you are awesome! Pink's guitar player Justin and the whole music band are an amazing musicians! The Vertex's guitar effects sound super cool and the company's whole team are unique, and highest quality professionals! My respects to all of you! Greetings from Bulgaria! :-) We love you, be healthy happy and blessed, and the same I wish for all the people around you too!
@@Born2RiffRock "Helps he has 50k in equipment at his disposal" Are you attempting to minimize Justin's playing ability, by bringing up the gear he owns, and uses? Justin is a fantastic player. He is going to sound great with, or without high quality gear.
@@VertexEffectsInc She's such an amazing singer and songwriter and she always gives proper credit to her band and dancers. All incredible talented people. She's surrounded by the best.
As an audio engineer with a musical background on guitar I appreciate the parts left out most. The best sounding players sound so impactful because they play LESS. Justin’s playing a perfect example of that. What he DOESN’T play makes him such a great player. And I never heard a guitar line in a Pink song I don’t think just worked perfectly.
Excellent player. Remember seeing him with PINK on The Today Show with the female bassist ... can't remember the song, but what a great performance. That's it! "Please Don't Leave Me"! Yeh. Alicia The Pink, has an incredible voice.
The first time I saw pink in concert she was in disguise and played drums when the band went on stage, then came up front to do the vocals. Her stage shows now are incredible, walking in zorb balls across the crowd, high wire acrobatics etc. To think the band have to keep things going with all these distractions going on!
Justin does a great job on all these songs. I remember seein' the Funhouse Tour and thinking: Where am I? Felt like a heavy metal show. Justin did a lot shredding solos on all these pop/rock songs. I thought it was a little bit over the top... Great guitar playin anyway!
Great interview @vertexeffectsinc If any tech shredders think this is not the highest level guitar playing, then you don't understand feel, groove, parts and tone- what being a consummate pro is all about.
I was always wondering how does Justin plays 'Sober ' - the way I found it working was split neck with volume little bit back. About 'So what' - I always thought it was Justin and Kat Lucas that shared octaves.
I have just one question. Justin is by far one of my favorite players. He is so versatile. He can play the phone book. So why doesn't he play on her recordings? She employs one of the biggest beast players. Why not use him for recording?
Long overdue. Thank you for this video. You should work with him on a signature pedal. He's an avid user of your boost pedal. Something in the room of an always on pedal. Is he using a RJM Gizmo with that pedal board? And if so can you elaborate on it would appreciate it many of us would.
What live mics are you using? Sounds so good for both people. I use Sennheiser lavs but you're getting such a nice mid bump. That's where I usually have to cut. Very impressive.

I just saw Pink here in Orlando and had to google who the guitar player was. Justin was fantastic. He really killed it. It was a great show overall.

This is the type of guy that just plays a couple of simple 8th notes and it JUST sounds better than when you do it yourself.
Getting a progression to "Groove" is an entirely other skill, you can play the right notes and still not sound right.
