This could be a great skill to pick up now days. That skill being reloading your own shells and ammo and becoming as self sufficient as possible in that endeavor.
Like ammunition, reloading components are hard to come by and over priced. It’s one thing to know how to reload, it’s another to have the supplies you need.
I love seeing old school black powder firearms still being used and looked after this is the kind of thing that can be lost through time it's good to see you preserving the skills and techniques with these really well done videos. Thank you for the knowledge
I picked up a Parker 10 gauge exposed hammer side by side from 1873 about four months ago and have been assembling original tools to prepare my own shells for the since. It's on my bucket list to take down a monster Texas boar with it some day and hopefully, with the know how in this video, it'll come just a little bit sooner. Thank you mister Potterfield
@@HelaNyx not really, 1-1/8 oz of shot with 3-1/4 drams of black powder would be very mild shooting in a 10 gauge. More mild than standard 12 gauge target loads.
Old school reloading, I love it. Went duck hunting in Oregon many years ago. One hunter with us had a modern 10ga. to reach the geese that were flying high above our hunting area. After about 6 shots of high brass he decided that the punishment was not worth the advantage. He walked back to his truck and brought back his old 12ga.
@@belenyer7759 it's like what my mamma always said and this applies to everything "you can either buy nice or buy twice" & "if you can't buy - you build it yourself"
When I was young I used to watch a ton of movies. And I wish I could remember the name, but the main character of this show I loved always used brass shells and ejected them over his shoulder. One time he threw them and accidentally broke a window that was intended for a stunt double to jump through later on. He gave an impromptu sneer and kept on the script.
StalkerAroundTheCorner Hamsteram all I have is an ar-15. I live in NJ and I'm under 21 so there is no way to get a handgun (not even private sale) unless someone gifted one to me (I want a glock 17L. No one can carry handguns in NJ but guards and police so conceal ability doesn't matter). I had to go through a bs license system just to be able to get long guns and we still have "assault weapons" restrictions after all that.
That lifter action is cool. I have an 1883 Parker. It's a great gun. Barrels are a bit rough so I don't feel bad loading up steel for duck hunting. It is a blast to shoot.
This is truely amazing, along with paper shells. Until 1960 we had paper. Its insane. This country has gone so far down hill, a man needed his gun. Now you have to be specially qualified to even own one.
Love this guy and all his Amazing Knowledge , and would love to get a shirt like hes wearing I would just feel better when I'm doing all my rifle Reloading and modifications I'm pretty good at them ..But love to wear a Midway USA one ...
Another great and informative video Larry. I would bet that you've forgotten more about firearms and gunsmithing than I know. I always enjoy learning new things from you, because I know that I'm learning the right ways and processes for whatever the task happens to be. Keep up the good work Larry, it's very much appreciated by individuals like me who have a desire to learn from the best.
Do you have any idea what a fabulous pastime this would be for a retiree? It's better than therapy! You're taking your time to restore something into good working condition that can literally be slung over your shoulder and turned into multiple deer steak dinners! It's perfect! Listen to the radio, brew some iced tea and you're good to go! Love it! Love it! Love it!
The good news is that RCBS makes a sizing die in 12ga. The bad news is they don't make it in other gauges. I have loaded them with both black powder and smokeless. I am still trying to work up a load using smokeless though, getting close and will finish that project some day. For now BP is fun and works well enough.
Larry, why don't you market a simple 10g resizing ring for brass shotshells? Most of us that reload all brass black powder shells would be very content with just a simple press mounted sizer ring the shell could be pushed into with the ram and tapped back out with a small mallet and a dowel. The rest of the process is easy, but making a sizing ring or die is beyond the capabilities of most reloaders.
This is my first time ever seeing someone reload a bullet. I knew the rough idea, but it's a lot more time consuming than I would have thought. When the apocalypse comes around I'll be sure to conserve whatever I can find, lol.
Awesome! Two questions for Larry or some knowledgeable commentor: 1. Can these shells of modern manufacture be used with smokeless powder? 2. Can they be used with slugs? Cheers!
I am very impressed with your proficiency in the work and its implementation with skill and intelligence is not in this section but many sections I saw you thank you friend
Cuban hunters still have to do this, we make Even The primers out of Matches.we have the ancient soviet brass cases and thanks to that we are able to hunt.
Can you do a video on how to make the resizing die and trim die, as well as the shell holder, as I would like to make these items for reloading several gauge shells thanks steve Garroutte
Nice crisp pull. Positive response. Be cool to revisit the past on armaments how we got here now concerning. Self sufficient, and findin the americano bro. The loads well thought out. Higher quality.
I always liked brass case shotgun shells aesthetically. It makes your shotgun look like a big bore rifle.
I mean technically with slugs it is 😂
Shotguns are the onlyweapons over .50 cal you can get without it being a destructive device
@@Swagjagson lots of elephant rifles that are bigger than 50 cal that are not a destructive device

I lived on a marsh as a kid. I used ten 12 ga. brass shells and reloaded them. Kids today miss out on so mush fun and memories.

It kicks like a mule but is fun to shoot is what my dad says but you reload like that for all shootgun shell so not that expensive
