hey salomon! Nice story telling. But if you wanna really test the binding, you got to hike up and ski down on tricky conditions, icy snow! creating a tech binding that holds in powder is one thing, but to ensure security in icy conditions is the holy grale youre talking about.
I'd like to see how it preforms under the most challenging conditions on longer hikes. I.e starting by sea level with warmer wet snow, moving up towards the peak where it gets colder, freezing winds where that wet snow starts turning to ice. In this vid it seems they have constant cold temps, dry conditions, awesome conditions. But not really rough for the binding. If there is alot of tech/moving parts in the binding (the toe piece is mentioned in the vid) that could freeze, Id be really interested to see how it holds up and what has been done to prevent these types of issues. Not sold just yet, but tempted for sure!
We all used this binding for the entire season and put it through every type of condition I can imagine. Zero problems and easier to deal with than traditional pin bindings. Unless I'm doing a multi-day trip with long touring days, I won't use anything but the Shift.
@@mikedouglas_ Hey! Thanks for the reply. Sounds great! Would be cool to see a little edit of that. Anyhow, good job to you people on taking touring bindings to the next level!
@@mikedouglas_ Hey again. Whats your thoughts on this issue? ruclips.net/video/_1XIx7b6ILA/видео.html Toe piece getting filled up with snow making it unable to switch into skimode. According to comments its a known issue "amongst the people", yet Salomon (according to the comments) say they havent heard of it yet. I ended up buying the bindings some weeks ago, before knowing about this. So far happy, but the issue creates some worries.
I had no issues so far, 2 months in with them. I don't ski too hard though, especially back-country. Uphill has been great, brakes releasing twice in that time
Great video...awesome binding. However! I would like a combo binding. One that I can make telly turns with (free - unlocked heel) or lock down and use as alpine. Free the heel for either up or down...I have seen some dudes add a rental binding heel, they can lock in or slide back with a screwdriver to allow free heel turns, kludge for sure, but some said it worked...But for the issue of no forward or lateral front release, which made it sketchy.
I have these bindings for 2 seasons. Last season I skied about 10 times. I have used them only on slopes and never used their walking function. I am about 140 pounds so I put hardly any pressure on these bindings, nevertheless the materials they used are in such a low quality that it started to break so one of my bindings now stays always on walking mode. Searching on the forums, I found several people complaining about this and it looks like this problem is common because materials are so low quality that they break down and the mechanism stops working as they suppose to. Because of this I faced myself in several dangerous situations where my binding toe piece just popped while skiing. I got new bindings than finding myself in unfortunate situations. I am really disappointed with these bindings. The compromises with the quality that Solomon has made in the production of their products in recent years makes me think about whether to buy something from them again. I like the idea behind shift bindings but I would NOT recommend it until they improve the quality. Anyway who wants to spend that much money for something that will break down in a season.
Good that you market these but before you might think of having your products in stock. Those bindings are not in stock like many many other products on your website.
The stove should be no problem... The suit. (lowe part) is maybe like 3kg tops and the pipes (that go out of the roof are all together 1kg... If youd really want one on your trip you could make an shell with 1 bit longer pipe and it would weight mybe 2kg...
Anyone notice they added subtitles for the french guy? They be like: "let's translate french english to american english". I have the binding tho, it's really good.
I so want to love these bindings but man I have had more runaway skis with them than everything else combined. The brakes do not work. Beefing them up slightly would add very little weight but mainly they need to deploy at a steeper angle. Everyone I know who owns then has the same problem.
