- Aging pro freeskier, Mike Douglas, travels to Japan in search of the secrets to perpetual youth and longevity. Between powder skiing sessions, he explores the Japanese diet, fitness, onsens and temples. The most profound advice, however, comes from a day spent with Mt. Everest age record holder, Yuichiro Miura and his son Gota.

Damn Mike! D-spin 7, first track?! You’re a legend 👏 I have a hard time imagining me doing the same in 20 years, but this gives me hope 😄
It's something about Japan that is always inspiring. I really hope I can ski till my last days. Stay strong Mike. Peace
I turned forty recently and have silently been pretty down about it. This is just the sort of film I needed to remind myself that the choice to keep my lifestyle exactly what I want it to be, irrespective of age, is just that... a choice. Great film. Thank you, Mike. Keep it up.
yep 48 here but must living in Mountains....ruclips.net/video/W9l0I-piT3E/видео.html
Hell yeah Wes, wish you the best.
That Miura family is ridiculously inspiring, wow!
Those end credits though, haha!
Age is somewhat in your head. I read a lot of comments about being in forty and I know where you are coming from as I once felt the same way. I am now 60 and I view my forties as when I was still young. I boot up at the same spot in the same lodge all winter long and there are many older men and women doing the same during the week days, many are in their 70 s and 80s. There advice is pretty much just keep hitting it, which is what I have done all my life. No I don't ski bumps all day but when they are soft I do, I pick my days to hit it harder. In the off season I Mt. bike and hike. I am not chasing my youth I just am happy making turns in the hardwoods on a good day and the groomers on the not as good days. I would also say surround yourself with positive like minded people. That snow in this video looks like heaven.
Glad it resonated like this Scott. Your story is super inspiring too. Keep having fun on the slopes whether it's on the trails or on virgin powder. 🙏 (And yes, we have to admit the snow was amazing in Japan!)
This is exactly how I feel, and exactly why I live in Hokkaido, Scott. I'm not trying to relive glory days, but I just want to enjoy every day and be as healthy as I can so I hike, bike (road & mtn), do weights, and trail run all just to be able to ski all day long for as many days as I can throughout the winter. The diet here is amazing, and onsen are like the icing on the cake. Especially when it's snowing. Heaven.
"The goal wasn't an end point, it's just a kick in the ass to get up and seize the day." -- Wise words Mike and a great little story.
Mike Douglas you're the Godfather of Freeski!
Cant wait for this season of Salomon videos!
I'm 63 and still able to sled and shred just go easy on french fries and pizza.
Haha! Awesome, keep getting after it! 🙌🏻
I’ve watched this one twice now. Once in 2019 and just now with Harry (9 years) and Edward (11 years). I’ve been fortunate to meet Mike Douglas and he is among the most remarkable people I have come across while clawing my way through the past 194 countries without flying. That says a lot as I have been fortunate to meet many people! Well done ❤️

Thank you, Mike Douglas!!! D-Spin @ 47, 80 up Everest, 100 Skiing Chamonix --- Carpe Diem! You only have to believe.
Never got any further than a 360 myself but last winter I did kind of the same journey and revisited the park to inspire my son. 37 and still got it, now I´m actually thinking about stepping it up going for a 540 this winter and possibly a 720. This movie helps inspire.
OMG ! What a fantastic video ! Thanks Mike for this beautiful message, you're an inspiration to all of us.
Nice work Himaness, that is some outstanding music !

An awesome video. Beautiful skiing scenery, informative, inspiring for all us aging skiing. A some humour!
Great video, thanks! Another important contributor to better health outcomes, and longevity could have something to do with the way communities, and social groups are organized. Researchers attributed the lower levels of heart disease among the people of Roseto, Pa, to their extended families, and tight-knit communities. Of course, diet, exercise, genetics, and the environment are also contributing factors. Malcolm Gladwell talks about this town in his book Outliers.
I just turned 56 this year and I have fallen in love with skiing again. I my youth I lived skiing, I then took time off while I raised my children. A buddy asked me to go to Utah 9 years ago and I have been skiing every since. I plan to go out west every year till I physically am not able. This movie gives me hope that that will be many years from now!
Here's to many more years! 🙌
Secret to longevity:
step 1 - ski mount Fuji, Kosciusko, McKinley, Popocatépetl, Torres del Paine, Tasman Glacier without dying.
step 2 - climb everest
step 3 - straight-line the South Col face
step 4 - deploy drogue chute
step 5 - survive
step 6 - keep skiing & climbing...
Yuichiro Miura is a legend.
Awesome some video! Nice to see people keeping young even above forty! 😁😁😁😁
Thank you Mike! You`ve been an inspiration for long years and you are one of the best. Long live to Mike! :)
Well done Mike and everyone who contributed to this video. I wrote a post on it: wp.me/pXOOz-dC. The topics you discussed on longevity are very similar in their conclusion to those from the Okinawa Program. Same country, but closer to the beach.
Thank you!
Awesome boys and nice one MD! Keep inspiring, smiling and stay young!
Amazing..Thanks Foreverything*

Thanks for this Mike! You and I crossed paths from time to time in our "Younger" ski lives back in the Parkasarus/Super Park days. Injury had caused a self imposed retirement since 2014 but I was able to get back on snow this winter. Seeing you again, charging and doing it has truly inspired me to keep pushing forward in my pursuit of skiing forever. Thanks 🤙
Thanks Josh!

Awesome, loved it! Thought the narration was particularly good Mike, especially the end quotes!
Thank you!
Mike - your best yet. Older = wiser!
Awesome story telling mixed with a little skiing!
I wonder if the same applies to snowboarding?

Found the video extremely interesting and cool. Can anyone understand what is the secret to longevity as said on 18:20 by the Miura son? I cannot seam to understand his english at that point: "...secret to longevity is strong ??????? body..."
Even Better lower body
What Mike said :)
this was so inspiring! great movie!!!!
What an amazing movie!!!!!
Keep Ripping, you can do it, you rock
The end credits are awesome 🤣
😁
For the last 8 years, I only went to Japan Niseko for skiing, no more Europe. The snow in hokaido is just something else.
Beautiful video !
Fountain of Youth located in Mardan region of pakistan
i just turned 48. The video is timely! I'm really thankful of the Salomon brand and all it does for the benefit of humanity!
Great story! Loved the music!
Mountains man.. that's what keeps you young. Nice film Salomon, as always! I still think the dream trip from kashmir was one of your very best, keep it going!
What do you think about sprinting.. It also puts 3times your bodyweight pressure on your legs?
Great story and video, but it bothers the living shit out of me that he pronounces Nagano wrong like 40 times. You would think that spending so much time there, and all the filming etc, that someone at some point could/would notice that this is incorrect and fix it.
How do I age this gr......the best GS,,, Olympics, my heart still cry's. who will get me on my skis again? try me ......
awsome - inspiring!!!
Love this episode, thanks!!!
"Does this have scientific back-up", for the most part we have to admit it doesn't. It's a lucky person tat is lively and old.
I hate that 47 is considered so "old"! This was so enjoyable and beautiful.
The answer is NO... Except aging. Enjoy the mountains :)
Absolutely brilliant
Brilliant stuff as always!
Great video. Love it
damn, that was awesome.
excellent , loved it
Just get outside and move your body
Badass
Yeah, right?
Is March/April a good time for powder ski in Japan?
Mid January/late February is the best time to ski in Japan 😉
Hey Mike, great episode. relevant in too many ways. Cheers!
You kept the best for the end... 26:00 to 26:20 is simply fabulous !!
