I can’t believe no one has commented on the videography work.. most dramatic barrel cleaning ever! A comparison of other abrasives would be interesting.
I went on a barrel cleaning kick - scrubbing down to bare metal after every day's shooting - back in 2017 (long story). Tried a lot of different things - but ThorroFlush / ThorroClean were one of the best options I found, if one didn't have the time to wait on chemical solvents. Back then, the ThorroFlush came in this silly little spritzer bottle, which is an absolute pain to use - I get more everywhere else, than on the patch. That was honestly about the biggest reason I didn't use it more - until I finally broke down and got a dedicated solvent bottle with a flip-top lid ;) VFG pellets are something else you might consider checking out - especially the ones with the bronze fiberrs woven into the pellets. Those things combined with an abrasive cleaner like JB, Iosso or ThorroClean will do a pretty good number on stubborn carbon. But the best tool for getting a barrel really clean? A bore scope ;)
Thorough clean is the very best cleaning system to date. Ive tried everything and the only combo to work nearly as well is kroil and JB bore paste. I will be using it extensively until something better comes along. Great video by the way.
Did you consult Steven Spielberg prior to producing this video? Quick cuts and dramatic camera angles! The music suggests that a plot has been hatched and implemented to take over the world!
I have a 6 Dasher that shot lights out for 7-800 rounds. i cleaned it often, usually about every 100 with Butches Bore shine. around the 800 mark it started getting random stiff bolt lift and fliers. I cleaned it and cleaned it with bore shine and even tried boretech eliminator. and boretech c4. still same issues. determined it was a carbon ring right at the start of the lands. We decided to rechamber it by setting it back .25". My smith could barely get his reamer started because the throat had the carbo ring. he scrubbed it for a long time with JB untill the reamer pilot bushing would go. after it was rechambered i shot it with my same load and had the same issue as before,m random pressure and fliers. Then i found thorroclean. Did a couple cleanings with it and checked with my borescope. Barrel looked brand new inside. Went and shot it, and it was back to one hole groups and no pressure issues. thorro works really well
I used to use witches brew, then went to iosso. When I ran out I got bore tech eliminator, carbon remover, and copper remover so I don't have to scrub as much. They all work
Thanks Keith! I think Iosso and FreeAll/Kroil is still gonna be my go to for regular cleanings, and JB Bore when I am on my first 500 rounds of the barrel. Just can't seem to see a reason to change.
Maybe I can shed a little light on this subject (barrel cleaning). I would think that MOST of your viewers are like myself. Regular Joes who are interested in accuracy first, and just slinging lead down range last. And most of us do not (yet) own a borescope, and barrel cleaning is something we do, but its kind of a "prayer and a song", and hope for the best. Most people really do not have a way of checking to even see what the bores of our rifles even looks like. Clean, dirty, or otherwise. So if we can pick up some tips, its well worth watching videos to do it. I think eventually, most of us are going to realize (I certainly have) that the only way to get a firearm clean, is to scope it. And have that ability's at home. I DO know first hand what build up (of copper in my case) in a barrel can do to accuracy. I didn't know to not dip a brush into the Hoppes Copper Solvent that I had been using, and eventually it quit dissolving copper. Fast forward many cleanings, and I eventually ran out of it. When I opened the new bottle, I kept running it thru my bore (300 win mag), and it never quit coming out blue-green. After several posts on a message board, I was told what had likely happened. I bought some "Sweet's 7.62 copper solvent, and some JB Bore paste" and went to town. And it still took me 3 days to get the barrel clean.
if i ever run out of JB and Kroil im going to give thorro clean a try... i might just buy some anyway, very curious to compare it. another great vid, cheers.
Oh I’m not surprised it’s cleaning- between Eric Cortina pushing cleaning practically every time you look at the rifle vs. the never clean crowd and all the products from super duper pooper scooper to toothpaste and even windex. It’s no wonder everyone wants cleaning videos- because there’s no consistency on how to do it!
Ok,OK. After last post I got the Thoroclean system. On what I thought was a clean barrel, I got pitch black patches. So, Sharpshooter Patchout for a "light clean" and Thoroclean periodically for down to the studs cleaning.
In one of your recent videos you mentioned that "If you clean your barrel all the way to bare metal, you would loose the extra speed you had gotten during breakeven and you would never get it back". Please expand on this, since many cleaning products will get you to this point quickly and leave no residue. How do you know when to stop.
I am using as directed but don't seem to work as good as I thought it would. I think kroual and hoppes works faster for me? Awesome channel love your videos and experience with everything thank you
I have used the products, and I own a bore scope. In the video, the method used was not according to the manufacturers instructions. I believe that that may have had an effect on the results. I think that if he had followed the instructions and continued on with as many cycles as needed for the degree of fouling that he was dealing with, that the bore would have come completely clean. I always advise shooters to inspect as they go along when using an abrasive cleaner, to determine the minimum number of cycles that will get the job done. Kudos for the drama and music.
I just started messing with this product and I don't own a borescope. Will the patches eventually stop turning black when its clean or will they be black forever since it's polishing the steel? How do I know when to stop?
@@Lucas12v Teslong bore scopes are really cheap. I can see no logical reason for not knowing what the inside of your barrel looks like. If you use IOSSO on an unfired barrel, it will turn black. Thorroclean is just a liquid form of IOSSO.
Impressive in how the lands and groves detail became so sharp. On a side note I like your Riflescope in background, so many movies show some fancy dudes corner office with a telescope, guess this is your take on that! Mind sharing how you affixed the pic rail to tripod mount? I'd like to use a spare scope as a spotting scope for better clarity. Thanks.
the eye relief makes it pretty tough to use. without a cheek weld, its strenuous and annoying. theres a reason you place your eye directly onto or very near to a spotting scope eyepiece.
Cleaning is the most popular of your videos?! Cleaning and trimming brass have to be my least favorite things but maybe that’s why there’s interest. Loved the editing btw
You had 110 round since the last time you've cleaned the rifle. Is there any noticeable difference between rounds 1-10 and 100-110 as the barrel gets filled? Do you have to compensate for your first shots after cleaning?
As I put a few rounds threw a 22 creedmoor still not getting the sd I desire the quest moves on as the berrel life clock is ticking I said no ill clean it later
Check out Eric and Speedy Gonzalezs cleaning video. Sharpshooter Patchout /Accelerator. Lock eeze colloidal graphite. Amazing stuff. Excellent this video, my friend.
I can not figure out how others on these videos barrels look so good after so many rounds. I have all kinds of anomalies and sometimes cracking in far less rounds. I can maybe understand why on my 6mm creedmoore but switched to 6mm BRA and barrels still show problems.
@@winninginthewind it's mostly right at the end of the free bore the step where the lands start. Then down towards the other end of the barrel closer to the muzzle. The cracking is all back on the chamber end. My 6mm creedmoore will only shoot about 300 to 400 rounds before the barrel just wont shoot small groups anymore. I'm not shooting hit loads and maybe a bit heavy of a bullet for caliber but definitely acceptable. Like 108 gn eldm or 110 Atips
Is it round count or time that has most influence on the need to clean ? Shoot 120 rounds over one weekend then clean or shoot 120 rounds over 4 weekends then clean ? The longer carbon stays in the bore the harder it gets to remove ?
I too got sucked in by the bullet central email campaigns! - it seems to work really well on new barrels you have kept very clean. It's liquefied iosso...
The method speedy uses on cortina's channel a few months ago is how im doing it now. Got a bore scope to see the results too. I was already a fan of wipe out. Good enough for speedy, good enough for me.
I can’t believe no one has commented on the videography work.. most dramatic barrel cleaning ever! A comparison of other abrasives would be interesting.
I kept expecting to see the 2001 monkey throwing a barrel into the air and it becoming a space station. Very nice.

Used it for about a year and it works good.
Only use it about every 4-500 rounds and Bore Tech Eliminator about every 100 rounds in between.

Top ranked F class shooters use Thorro clean. And little ole me uses it. Both are Very happy with results.
I have the same two bottles from 2019 and it works great. With my cleaning regiment, I should have to buy another pack about 2029.
Love it when you get in a creative mood!

I tried Thorroclean. Worked OK. I use Patch Out. I ran it through after Thorroclean and got blue patches Tells me Patch Out works better.

It all depends on where they video in the bore, and how hard of a life the barrel has. We definitely do not baby F-Open barrels!

Something new to ponder on .............................. thanks !!
Works and so much easier to apply then JB

I've never tested that. Usually go one weekend, then clean.
Yeerrpp, carnt beat abrasive if you want it cleaned properly, another thumbs 👍 vid
"It is an abrasive cleaner" ...How does it compare with other abrasive cleaners is the question.
Any long term review on this or just a one and done? Did you use it more than once and if so, was it so aggressive that it ruined the bore? Thanks.
I continue to use it. It is far more mild than JB bore paste, and does absolutely no harm to the bore that I can detect.
Sweet. Thanks for the reply.
Thank you!
I too got sucked in by the bullet central email campaigns! - it seems to work really well on new barrels you have kept very clean. It's liquefied iosso...
Wait, why do you have a Space Force cleaning rag?
It was a gift.
what solvent was used ? plz!
It's in the title...

No cleaning is bad, it makes a mess 🤣
Why not Iosso?
This is a "liquefied version" of Iosso if you will. Much easier to apply.
That stock is begging for some color, stain it like a guitar
Looked as if done a good job
