10 Levels Of Djent
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 16 янв 2022
- Djent/Progressive Metal is one of my favorite genres, with bands like Meshuggah/Periphery/TesseracT/Animals As Leaders etc. So it's time for me to whip out my 7 string guitar, play some low-tuned Djent-y riffs and go through the (IMO) different levels of Djent, featuring lots of Drop G riffage (as well as possibly lower than that...). Hope you like it!
Did I miss any level? \o/

Did I miss any level? \o/
Yes. Level 11: make your computer write music for you and achieve Djen.
@@kyoobqa facts! xD
@kyoobqa Damn, forgot to include that x'D
The Mick Gordon
One of the basic levels: non-binary meter/mixed meter along with heavy syncopation. You kind of did it with your dead notes riff but it's a basic part lol
Man, your progcedurally djenerated album was a marvel.
Thanks a lot!

@@DennisMartenssonOfficial I just wished it had a longer section, the songs cut too short breaking the experience. It could be complemented by a band making it a full song.
That Level 10 Asking Alexandria riff took me back to my teens.
Haha, same : D Used to listen to that kind of music a LOT back in the day!
its inspiring me some amator scream the lvl 10 omg
Which song is it?
Isnt that as i lay dying ?
@@briocheman21 It’s not the exact song but pretty similar:
Asking Alexandria - Not the American Average.
Many of their songs has this melodic pattern.
You've got this shit down to a science, dude.
Haha, thanks!
Cool :D
Literally lol
Literally
This was a perfectly good song in its own right then you get to step 10 and switch genres to something more energetic and stop... what a tease. Loved it
Glad you liked it! : D
To be fair, the core'esque feel of a looooot of "djent" bands is really something I don't get. Emo vocals and pop riffage is just not what I'm looking for when my favorite band is Meshuggah.
To each his own! I dig that vibe : D
So much this. Just want some brutal riffage, not drop tuned Evanescence.
@@citizensnips2348 And I want brutal riffage with emo vocals, to each their own.
@@theostragonidis7548 yeah, but you've got lots of options to choose from. But you are correct, we both have different opinions. Well done.
Vitalism
This should be used as an actual reference point to the entire subgenre itself.
you sir, have set the bar! 🤘🖤
Thanks a lot!
People have no idea how much metal and hiphop actually have in common. I ended up becoming a hiphop artist because you don’t have to rely on other people to do it, but I still love these grooves, patterns, and rhythms very much. Great job
There's definitely a lot of crossover, yes! And thanks : D
A lot of artists have already made the crossover happen and it works phenomenally
@@FBI-sr2eg ghost sucks at it
Hip-Hop songs are nursery rhymes compared to this
a pefomance artist?)
You forgot level 11, the straight double bass level!
Haha, should have included that!
Loved that metalcore ending 🖤
Glad to hear it!
Song name? Sounds like BFMV but I'm not sure
No it's worst part.( Bends the best!
@@JuanCruzFabi Interesting, to me it sounded like In Flames.
@@killers31337 I was wrong, it wasn't BFMV, that riff sounds like Knives and pens guitar riff, by Black Veil Brides. That's the riff I was thinking of
With every video you convince me that I would really love to jam with you! Awesome storytelling with the music and a great video edit. Awesome!
Thanks a lot for the kind words! Really warms my heart. : D
You are my favourite youtuber when I need my daily dose of djent :D Awesome as always, keep it up!
Glad to hear it! Thanks a lot!
First video I saw from this channel. Loved it. Subscribed 👍🏻
Wow!!! The best djent lesson ever! Thank you so much, master!
Haha, thanks a lot!
This is honestly amazing man. Keep up the great work! Have a fazmetal rockin time my guy.
Thanks a lot! : D
lmao i listened to all of this in the background and thought it was a song LOL great work man, these are all great styles in the genre!
That ambiance part is so magnificent, oh
Thanks a lot!
Just too damn good for the ears, thanks for that mate!! 🤘
Googled this cus a lot of people recommended my fav bands and Djent and I was confused from descriptions.
You could tell me this was a Dadaroma instrumental and I’d 100% believe it ☠️ this rocks I love it
Daaamn the bending part was SOOOO heavy! Awesome ❤
Glad you liked it!
You're simply amazing bro
Thanks a lot!
Level 10 for me was always August Burns Red. I audibly laughed at that bit, great video 😃
Haha, glad you enjoyed it! : D
The really low then really high is ridiculous! Totally love it
Thanks a lot!
Great playing! I love djent
That was straight up nasty. You forgot the Dennis Martensson Level, equivalent to god mode :P wait that was the entire thing!
So good man
Aww, what a sweet comment! Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
@@DennisMartenssonOfficial Do you play in a band at all? Or have any full songs? I'd listen to this all day
@MBDrums I do play in a band! This is our RUclips channel; ruclips.net/channel/UC1ADnsOR1CGHewlZU2TXCbw
Me and another guy sharing writing duties for the instrumentals. Last song we released was 95% me or so. (:
Other than that, I bundled together some songs I'd written for previous videos in an EP, you can listen to it here;

@@DennisMartenssonOfficial that’s so sick! I’m gonna check it out, thanks for the info!!🤘
I freaking LOVE that color tone. Ibanez always feels like home too.
Amazing tone man!
This was pretty badass 👏
Thanks a lot! : D
Lmao I always find myself instinctively jump to level 10 right away
Nice tone btw!
Thanks! : D
nice stuff, well done!
Haha bro i love this vid, very creative. Found the noise gate! Choppy riffs imminent lol
Glad you liked it! : D
Very clean..nice work \m/
Thanks a lot!
Manly followed because i got the same guitar now i follow because your riffs slap!
That's awesome to hear!
You got me with level 10 !
that "Eary" type echo at the beginning.. sounds insanely good.. you must share your knowledge on how you created that.. PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE lol
Incredible sound 😎
This make me realise this truly is one of the genres of all time
Been hearing too much AILD since highschool to know the ending lol XD
sick riff btw 👌🏼👌🏼🔥🔥
Glad you liked it! : D
From all metal/prog genres I've been listening to all of my life, *djent* mysteriously *sparks* my will to compose songs of my own. That's fvcking sorcery hehe.
Same!
Level 6 is Humanity’s Last Breath & AARU territory! Love the video!
Haven't heard AARU before, need to check that out! And thanks!
Awesome video! I'm guilty of loving every level of djent. This type of metal is just amazing to me!
I was wonder if you had any tips on how to get your drum sound? I've been trying for weeks to get this exact "squishy" sounding drum kit and I can't figure it out. I've come close, but yours sounds so much cleaner. I have GGD Invasion, and love the way they sound, but this drum sound is exactly what I'm trying to achieve but haven't been able to figure it out. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Glad you liked it! Definitely also guilty of loving the entry level Djent as well, haha.
I'm actually using Modern & Massive, heavily processed though. Not a single trick to making them sound a certain way, sadly. But for kick, don't be afraid to EQ and compress heavily. I have tons of processing for my kick. As for the snare, I think it's important to realize that each snare track is gonna sound horrible on it's own. You just need to know what you want to get out of it. Snare top is where the main part of the snare's body comes from, snare bottom is the high-end "snap" of the snare, and the room sounds are where the "smack" comes from. Honestly my snare sound is probably 50% just the room sound!
@@DennisMartenssonOfficial Man, I really appreciate the reply! This is very helpful information. I will definitely keep all of this in mind. Thanks a bunch!
Sick video💯💯
Powerful 💥
That tone sounds amazing
Thanks a lot!
Well, predictable result in the end ) Great video, thanks!
Glad you liked it! : D
Yo thats awesome ! keep it up
Thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot! : D
I would love to generate more riffs based on the second level. It seems the most groovy of them all.
Level 5 and 9 tho
Loved level 10!
Glad you liked it! : D
this is the best video ever posted on youtube
Thanks a ton!
10 for sure!
Keep up the good work!
Thanks! And I will! : D
Nice bro 👍
Haha fractalized is so proud of ur knowledge... Great riffs and ambient effects
Thanks a lot!
Great video! Now I only need some thiccc strings for my 7 to try it out myself lmao (i think I have bass strings lying around somewhere...)
Also you probably heard it already, but if not let me recommend the new (well a few months old) album from Vildhjarta, 'Masstaden under vatten'... Really had me falling in love with this genre again!
Thanks a lot! Honestly don't need that thick strings, I play in Drop G on my 7 string and I have 72-10 on them!
Yeah, heard that album! it's great!
@@DennisMartenssonOfficial Yeah, I'll have to experiment a bit I think; I want to play something along F standard, so Meshuggah-tuning and I like my strings tight...
I have pretty light strings on it atm since I wanted to play B standard on it (its a multiscale)y
@@broncoxy I have 72-14 on my 6 string right now. They are very tight at SYL tuning (GCGCGC +e) imo and I can work with them at F standard, although the thinner strings get a bit loose at that tuning
This actually had me in tears
Bra the finishing touch w that metalcore part was heavenly.
Haha, glad you liked it! : D
New Sub Here! Amazing content Dennis!!
Level 5 made me uncontrollably headbang
That tone😍❤️😎👌
Great video and gave me some great ideas lol
Thanks a lot!
Dude, your tone is badaaaaaass! The sound of those bends are so Vildhjarta
Thanks a lot!
I love all of this so much 🤷♂
That's one beautiful guitar.
Indeed it is! : D
Level 9 - amazing!
Thanks a lot! : D
Omg number 9!!
Haha - amazing - and a good song in it´s own right!
Thanks a lot!
lvl 0 - Abient guitar sound is absolutely amazing. Would it be possible to provide a preset for download. I assume it was created in DSP Gojira????
Tasty riffs.
Thanks a lot!
Awesome!
Thanks!
what a djentleman!
Your musical mind is beautiful.
Lol! Loved level 10. That got me
I love that type of Metalcore riffs
Awesome! : D
HUGEEEEE!!
Hell yeah brother
Hell yeah!
perfect
this is a pretty good, ngl. touched on all rhythm features, i think
Thanks a lot!
Dang man! I’d listen to you play any of these levels tbh… you nailed your tone.
What’s the tuning btw? Just drop G plus pitch shift in a few places?
Thanks a lot!
Yes, "base" tuning is Drop G, in the pitch shifted sections it's shifted down to double drop C. (:
@@DennisMartenssonOfficial disgusting lol
How did you do the bends and have them sound like octaves when you only bent one string?
I’m with everyone on #10. :D
I’m seriously not trying to hate but your playing position tweaks my brain 🤣
You do you though man it’s obviously workin fine for ya :)
Haha, yeah to each his own, it works for me : D
Killer!
Thanks!
lvl 11 it`s a "Rogue" band. so sick atmosphere. but your one is so cool bro. rock on.
Thanks!
Badass guitar sound
Thanks a lot!
Djent is da best!) I love this like sludge or groove
Agreed!
what's up with the velcro wrap on the nut? does that act as a mute or is it a capo?
It's a fretwrap. (: While it rests at the nut, it can eliminate some minor unwanted string noises!
Nice bro
Thanks a lot!
And i would listen to this as a whole song
Not gonna lie. All of that metal was friggin awesome and I would listen to all of it.
Thanks a lot!
Riff from level 6 is so cooool
Thanks a lot!
Felt that 👃🏿 💧"found the noise gate" I Aux this live this
Haha, I'm definitely guilty of that as well!
Lololol level 10. Maybe you missed the dissonant intro? Future breed machine \m/
Haha, yeah, I can include that if I ever do a followup : D
10 Levels of Thall next? Bands such as Vildhjarta, Humanity's Last Breath, Reflections, Indistinct, Aaru, Path Of Giants, etc, basically a style that sprung out of level 9 lmao
That's a lot of my favorite bands as well. : D So thinking about it, haha. Let's see what happens in the future!
@@DennisMartenssonOfficial cool! Keep up the good stuff
This is fucking hilarious, and genius
Level 8 is my happy place!
Nice!
I'm definitely at level 10 right now.😀

That got me real spooked off for good few seconds. lol
haha lol x'D
Ending took me back, lol
Haha, nice : D
bro everything you did I could think of a currents song where it's used. Nice fucking job
Thanks a lot!
