Yes, but like a lot of the greats he gets caught up in the speed trap. He sounds much more palatable when he slows a little and leaves a few holes. Ears need time to digest and it makes what IS played more effective. Two Cents
probably why his albums didnt sell in that time -- all of it was exceptional music but it just was listenable in the sens of sit on the couch & chill -- was just too good i guess@@billyboy6028
Wow a dg video I have never seen! Danny remains my favorite all time guitarist nobody can do what he did then or now incredible guitarist of any style rip Danny you will never be forgotten!
Wow Keith Blackwell and his friends Mike Posner and John ??? Turned me onto Gatton in 1984 when we were all associated with university of Maryland one way or another. Went to my first gatton show with them 12/21/84 at the gentry. Hancock had a hissy fit and split so mikeP filled in on bass rest of night. Classic stuff. Was the last week fat boys ever played together.
wow! another great upload Thanks.. Gattons instrumental at 38mins in terrific. he seemed to be able to play for ever and never repeat an idea .. cheers!
For those guitarists out there that haven't seen this post (like me until like yesterday) check Out "Quiet Village" at round 1:03:00 for a lesson & a half! P.S. ==Perfect closeup cam. angles!!!), also Butch sounds great but when ya can't hear the drums....
The Gentry was at 8th st. And Pennsylvania Avenue Se Washington D.C. very near where Eastern Market metro station is now. Saw many a great show there including this one. Thanks for sharing this video!! Loved the jingle bell rock
Danny was indeed a "Telemaster". A lifetime member of a very small and exclusive club. RIP, Danny. Rest assured we're still enjoying your six-string guitar-slinging skills. Whatever it was that you did @13:35 is still a mystery to me!
Thanks for posting this great show. I can't believe they did Randy Newman's "I Don't Want To Hear It Anymore". Must have been a regional hit down in MD at the time.
A lot of that reverb is the small room. Gentry was tiny. It did not sound quite like that there. I only went there twice in 1984 but luckily had my tape deck in hand. Once for fat boys and once for Rick danko.
I'm sorry... nobody better... most versatile and best ever... Danny Gatton! 😎🎸

Danny plays with such finesse...it seems like any sound he thinks he can play, his fingers have absolutely no problem conjuring it from the fretboard.
Beautifully put.
The guy's a giant!

I love how most of the time Danny is looking at the drummer!

I believe he's playing a guitar arrangement of Bob Wills "Boot Heel Drag" ... Quite something

ITS LIKE CHRISTMAS LISTENING TO THIS ITS SO FRIGGIN' COOL
Really neat to see him playing a regular club gig with a vocalist (and a very rowdy crowd)...Thanks for sharing this!

They sound so dam awesome!, Thanks so much for posting it! I am a big Fan of Danny Gatton and these guys.
We all know Danny Gatton was brilliant (saw him in 1990 in DC), but the singer is incredible, he's a freaking opera singer!
Billy Hancock RIP, after playing with Danny in Danny and the Fat Boys he had his own band Billy Hancock and the Tennessee rockets, good times ,peace
Love this

Thought I’d seen all the Danny videos on RUclips. Thanks for posting this Warren @iibw

Danny Gatton is still my favorite guitarist!
Thanks for putting this out there , wot a Guitarist one of the Best ever
Thanks for uploading this, it feels like Christmas morning when I see Danny Gatton's gig for the first time. The best.
This is amazing. That for posting a new dG video. I thought I would never see a new one.
Thank you for posting these videos. Danny and the guys brilliant as always.
That is rock'n'roll. Unfortunately the audience too.
Danny and the boys doing Randy Newman (of all people!) at 29:50!!!
Dayum!
Whoever keeps yelling "Turn the bass down" - I want to smack you with the headstock of the bass! - Each time you say it. Have a nice day:)
in a word wonderful
When the lead is so good the bass player starts dancing.
If I would tatoo myself, I would tatoo Danny Gatton with his beautifull Tele on my arm.
Billy got shocked by the mic at 18 seconds into the video.
The crowd requests were way better than the set list.
just can`t stop watching Danny. What`s the song called in 34:43 ?
fools rush in
What's the tune at 1:02:11?
Quiet Village. Martin Denny. Exotica.
I remember when many talent-less singers thought that heavy vocal vibrato was cool.

If you think Billy Hancock is a " Talent-less singer," you need to get your ears checked, Sparky!
@@ratsozellie115 Did I put down Billy Hancock? Maybe you are just hallucinating. Better adjust your meds.
My Meds are fine...It indeed appeared you were putting down Billy Hancock!
It’s a shame DG had to waste his talent playing this tired genre of “rock and roll”; just my opinion not right or wrong
