The full video, not this lyric video is one of the greatest and really iconic. This 1984 hit was massive EVERYWHERE but in the United States because it fell foul of the radio stations ( and MTV) not understanding what the video was about. It was NOT promoting 'unnatural behaviour' Street. It effectively killed Queen in the United States at that time. In the video, Freddie at the last minute decided to keep his famous moustache. Of the remaining members, Roger Taylor was very delighted to be the 'schoolgirl' Brian & John were encouraged to be the 'battleaxes'. Just having the lyric video removes the full impact of the video. The alternate part was Freddie performing with members of the English Royal Ballet. FREDDIE had a long association with the royal ballet including a memorable 1979 performance that merged rock music and ballet.

Just to be clear, Freddie never came out publicly as gay until just before he died. Even though it was pretty obvious that he was as camp as a row tents. A lot people by default associate this song with his sexuality, when it’s really about someone who wants to leave a negative relationship. Also it’s important to point out that John Deacan wrote the song, not Freddie.
yes agree people just jumped to the conclusion that it was him saying he was guy and the video made people say that was the proof... 🙄 I love Freddie always wanted to see them
Freddie didn't hide himself away. He often went to gay clubs in the seventies and eighties, chatting with friends, and seeming completely relaxed. People left him alone, there were no star-chasers that I could see.
@@tonybennett4159 oh didnt he do that with Elton John a few times? i recall he 100% took out Princess Diana to a bunch of gay clubs after disguising her and she had a smashing good time, which was quite hilarious to hear. not everyone can imagine a time where stars could breath easy.
As far as I remember he came out as bi just before he died which surprised me. I had him pegged as full gay for years before that. In those days personal details about artists lives were hard to come by unless you read the gutter press.
In an interview with Freddie about the band dressing up in drag for music video, Freddie said “they ran into their frocks as quick as anything”. Emphasising how much they all enjoyed it. I recommend watching the extended The Great Pretender music video of Freddie’s cover version. There’s footage of Freddie and Roger Taylor doing their makeup and getting frocked up for the filming.
@@ilovefacebookandebayThat’s actually true, but my husband and I never got the point!! I remember saying, “It’s just a costume guys get over yourselves!” Keep in mind we also had the original Elton John at that point and when he came out we said, “Ah-huh! And nobody knew?” Drag wasn’t a big deal in our house so we really didn’t understand it! 😮
I’m so glad I was old enough to see the live TV airing of that! I didn’t know it then but I witnessed the best 20 min in music history! I also recorded the whole concert on VHS tapes (my brother and I took shifts) so we didn’t miss any of Live Aid performances. Then we got to watch it over and over again! Which back then wasn’t really much of a option.
Aww you should've watched the normal music video. You missed alot that they didn't show when they showed the lyrics instead. This song has nothing to do with sexuality or people not accepting Freddie. It was written by John Deacon, the bassist. Straight with a wife and 6 kids. They all wrote songs, not just Freddie. Roger Tayler's(the drummer) then girlfriend came up with the idea for them to dress as women. They're basically dressed as characters from an English soap. The song is said to be about the women's liberation movement, or at least inspired by it. The music video got banned from MTV in America and people bashed Freddie(of course 🙄) for doing drag. After that he refused to come back to America to perform.
Yes and No, I've seen other reactions where it becomes all about the video. I like the reaction here, they're talking about the song, something this particular track rarely gets. Yes John wrote it, but Freddie I'm sure saw the parallels the guys describe.
It wasn't banned outright, that's a rumour, it just didn't do well so they dropped it...most, not all, people didn't get it. If you were a Python fan you were used to British comedy involving men dressed in drag, but not everyone was.
Montserrat and Freddie first met in 1987 after mentioning he was a fan of hers in a 1986 interview. She was asked to help with the music for the opening ceremonies of the 1992 Summer Olympics and she picked Freddie for the task. He wrote the song and recorded a demo with overdubbed vocals singing both parts of the duet himself, using his falsetto range for the female parts. She learned her part by ear listening to Freddie's falsetto track, which was then replaced in the mix with her vocal track.
A great John Deacon number. As Freddie said in an interview, this has nothing to do with what he described as ‘the whole gay thing. It’s about someone who’s not happy in life and wants to break free from his troubles’. Shame you didn’t react to the original music video where the whole band are dressed in drag as British soap characters.
The video for this 1984 song parodies a popular British television soap, . The opening sequence features all the band members in drag (Mercury as a housewife, Deacon as grandmother, Taylor as a schoolgirl, and May as a housewife). This confused many people who didn't catch the reference. Brian May was asked in an interview with magazine March 2011 whether each band member's character in the video was an accurate reflection of their personalities? He replied: "Of Course! Everybody thinks that was Freddie's idea because it looks like something that he would love to do but it actually came from Roger's girlfriend at the time, strangely enough. It was her idea to pastiche the women." Freddie was all set to shave off his trademark mustache for his turn as a woman in the video, but director David Mallet put a stop to it. He told the documentary series ditch the 'stache for a later segment in the video, where he is surrounded by the Royal Ballet in a nod to the French ballet and its clean-shaven Russian star Vaslav Nijinsky.

Deacon’s songs tended to be heavily R&B influenced which Freddie had an appreciation for and enjoyed recording, performing and interpreting John’s music.

Queen did the music for the movie 'Highlander' (Christopher Lambert starred with Sean Connery). Try Princes of the Universe and Who Wants To Live Forever.

You should hear "The Show Must Go On," which, if not his last song, it was close to it. "Who Wants to Live Forever," and "One Year of Love," from the "Highlander" film are also a direction change for Queen as well. The whole "It's A Kind of Magic" album has some great things too.
I love you guys. I love Queen. I love that you love Queen, too. Please react to one of Freddy's (almost) swan songs, "These Are The Days Of Our Lives." He and his mates recorded it after he became ill, and knew he would pass soon. The song and video are so poignant, and Freddy's voice is as beautiful as it ever was. I'm telling ya, it's impossible to listen to it to the end with a dry eye.
My favourite song of all time! It has been ever since Christmas 1991, when I got _Greatest Hits II_ on cassette - the first pop or rock music I ever owned. Ironically it was the huge increase in profile that Queen received as a result of Freddie's death that made me, aged 12, get interested in their music. As soon as I listened to the tape it was that song that stood out for me above all others. And I've still, genuinely, never found another that can top it.
Because of the absolute greatness of Freddie Mercury it's often lost that the drummer for KISS, the incomparable Eric Carr, died on the very same day after losing his battle with cancer. He was a legend as well. You should check out his drum solo with the song War Machine from Budokan Hall in Japan from 1988.
Ooopsie - Should’ve done the official video but love that you’re honoring Freddie!! The video parodies a British comedy show called Coronation Street. It was Roger’s girlfriend who got the idea 💡 to have our Queen boys dress in drag! Freddie (housewife) 👠 Brian (irritating in-law or sibling) John (Grumpy Granny) 🛀 and Roger (school girl)… yes, school girl. 📚
You should react to their Live Aid performance from 1985. It is considered the greatest live performance in rock. It's only 22 minutes and it will blow you away
1) it wasn’t Freddie who decided to dress up in drag for the video - it was Taylor (the drummer) - it is a take on a popular British TV show at the time 2) growing up in the 70s/80s I will disagree with you - I thought it was much, MUCH more accepting then - there wasn’t 24 hr media trying to create issues in order to get “views” = $$. It is much worst today 3) John Deacon (the bass player) wrote the song about his wife, not Freddie
You really need to watch more live performances. Live aid (20 minutes long) would be a good starting point but there are so many amazing live Queen performances.
JRR Tolkien (Lord Of The Rings author) talked about applicability vs allegory. He dislike the latter, often because it felt manipulative and lazy, but almost all good stories are applicable in that people will find their own meanings in them. I don't think this song directly referred to anything, but many people inferred their own meanings in to it
My all time favorite Queen song is "I want it all" ruclips.net/video/hFDcoX7s6rE/видео.html This song is what Queen is all about. Freddy was aware of his sickness when he wrote this and I think this song expresses how he was feeling. This song represents that QUEEN ROCKS! You guys gotta review it!
Such an unnecessary lyric video, watch the classic original video instead which was iconic and done very tongue-in-cheek. Too bad that Americans and MTV had no sense of humor.
John Deacon wrote this song and he was introverted and shy and it was him wanting to be able to break out and freer like the other band members. It was NEVER about Freddie's sexuality.People who don't know Queen have to remember that every single member wrote #1 hits.
I loved Queen and Freddie's voice from the first second I heard them in 1975. As I began my journey singing in bands Freddie was one of my biggest inspirations. One of the greatest vocalists of all time and one of the greatest showmen of all time.
You should switch it up a little and listen to some really soulful ballads: Heatwave “Always and forever”, L.T.D. “Love Ballad” or even some old school R&B: Phyllis Hyman “When I give my Love this time”, DeBarge “All this Love”. 💜
I am so happy that Queen and Freddie Mercury have become one of your favourite artists. Welcome to my world. Interesting you didn't play the official video. Upon its release it was snubbed by MTV because of the crossdressing in it and therefore wasn't a big hit in America. Much love from England 🏴
You really should watch the actual video for this song, it's amazing, and was hugely controversial for it's time. These reactions are so amazing and I love how much you LOVE Freddie, but it would be great to hear some recognition for the other members of the band too! This song was written by John Deacon, the bass player. Roger Taylor is an amazing drummer and his vocal talent is nearly as immense as Freddie's. And Brian May is one of rock's greatest guitar players. Freddie is iconic, and he was always adamant that Queen was first and foremost a collaborative effort. ❤
JOHN DEACON WROTE THIS SONG!! Understandably, people think it’s written by Freddie. Not so! Freddie was a mentor to John, encouraging him to write songs, and singing John’s songs perfectly.
For Female Friday: Ronnie Spector - ‘Be My Baby’ Toni Braxton - ‘Un-Break My Heart’ Sugarland (Jennifer Nettles) - ‘Stay’ Roberta Flack - ‘First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’ Other notables: Christopher Cross - ‘Sailing,’ Kayne Brown - ‘Worship You,’ Kool and The Gang - ‘Celebration,’ Dan Fogelberg - ‘Same Old Lang Syne’ Luther Vandross - ‘Dance With My Father’
The song was based on British Soap Opera Coronation Street and was about the Woman's Liberation movement not Freddie's sexuality John Decon Wrote the song and Roger Taylor's Girlfriend suggested they dress in drag
The official video, which you saw a very small snippet of in the beginning, was GREAT, and the idea of the bass player John Deacon (the "old" lady on the couch), NOT Freddie's. Freddie HATED the idea, but was out voted by the other band members. He knew if won't be good for their career in America. If you ever see the official video, you'll see how great Roger Taylor, the drummer, looks in drag. This video is what killed Queen's career in America. ruclips.net/video/Z3w5gVM_4y8/видео.html
There was a movie in the 80s called Highlander, well worth a watch. Queen did part of the OST, including A Kind of Magic, Princess of the universe and Who wants to live forever amongst others.
Thank you for honoring Freddie. Now I gotta get my vintage Vikings hat on to watch with ya. This song was written by John Deacon loosely based on Coronation Street and housewives who want to break free. Wish u could watch the official video with the guys in drag... Roger Taylor's idea btw.
For everyone saying that Freddie came out before he died, he didn't. The day before he died he announced that he was HIV positive and that he had AIDS, that's all. "Following enormous conjecture in the press, I wish to confirm that I have been tested HIV positive and have AIDS. "I felt it correct to keep this information private in order to protect the privacy of those around me. "However, the time has now come for my friends and fans around the world to know the truth, and I hope everyone will join with me, my doctors and all those worldwide in the fight against this terrible disease."
If you're doing all these Queen reactions, where are the live performances from Live Aid, and from Montreal and what-not? You're really short-changing yourselves if you don't watch the live stuff and see the true showman that Freddie was... unless you've already reacted to those.
Wrong video. You shouldve watched the official video not this bland and pointless lyric video. Lets face it Freddie sings so clear you can hear the lyrics anyway. Can't imagine what possessed you to watch this video :( Shame you missed a real classic.
I'm so disappointed that you didnt watch the original video. I love the original. You missed so much. All the screen time where it is just words - in the original its not words on the screen, its all 4 members of the band dressed as women. The point of the song was actually about feminism and about women wanting to break free. It was written by John Deacon, who was very big on womens rights. The great thing about Queen is all 4 members wrote number one songs both collaboratively and on their own

He and his mates recorded it after he became ill, and knew he would pass soon. The song and video are so poignant, and Freddy's voice is as beautiful as it ever was. I'm telling ya, it's impossible to listen to it to the end with a dry eye.
This is one of my favorite Queen songs! Try "The Show Must Go On" next. You'll love it!
yes that is a Queen must hear!!!!
Agreed!
YES!
I knew that Eric also died that same day , unfortunately it doesn't get as much attention , Eric was extremely talented and a very nice person . 👍😥
"The Show Must Go On" is a must listen!!!!
Probably Queens most underrated song.
Check it out!!!!
YES!
Queen “Who Wants to Live Forever” with vocals by Brian May and Freddie. It is really captivating. Watch the official video version.
I love the official video and song!!!!! Knew u would too! This lyric one doesn’t show you their humor but it still is awesome!
Pls react to, Somebody to Love (live in Montreal) by Queen.. ITS fire 🔥
I would recommend "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "You're My Best Friend" or "One Vision".
Aren't we all in love with Freddie? (And...oh no!!!! You're not seeing the official video! It's iconic. Be sure to check it out yourselves)
1) it wasn’t Freddie who decided to dress up in drag for the video - it was Taylor (the drummer) - it is a take on a popular British TV show at the time
2) growing up in the 70s/80s I will disagree with you - I thought it was much, MUCH more accepting then - there wasn’t 24 hr media trying to create issues in order to get “views” = $$. It is much worst today
3) John Deacon (the bass player) wrote the song about his wife, not Freddie
Queen is amazing, you should listen to Freddie and Montserrat singing "Barcelona"
John Deacon wrote this about his wife and they are still together too. RIP sweet Freddie 💛💛👑👑
I thought You're My Best Friend was the one he wrote for her, unless he wrote more than one song for her?
@@sadfaery He did write both for her, true love still together.
“These Are The Days Of Our Lives” ( Official Video).
I don't think this song directly referred to anything, but many people inferred their own meanings in to it
Queen: "IT'S A KIND OF MAGIC".....you must hear this one guys!
The song whose video killed the band in the US. And made plenty of us in England question our sexuality as the drummer looked hot..
Why didnt you play the video ???? Its hilerius !!!! - just the humor FM stood fore
Hope both of you and your family have a very happy and safe Thanksgiving
My all time favorite Queen song is "I want it all"
ruclips.net/video/hFDcoX7s6rE/видео.html
This song is what Queen is all about. Freddy was aware of his sickness when he wrote this and I think this song expresses how he was feeling.
This song represents that QUEEN ROCKS!
You guys gotta review it!
the hooks in this song are still amazing - timeless - RIP Freddie, you are so missed today :-(
Such an unnecessary lyric video, watch the classic original video instead which was iconic and done very tongue-in-cheek. Too bad that Americans and MTV had no sense of humor.
“Don’t Stop Me Now” HAS to be next. But I have a feeling you’ve reacted to it already.
The Show Must Go On is is a must. It's a hauntingly beautiful song.
Always loved this song. A good one to sing when you feel tethered by anything in life. He made it for himself and everyone, absolute banger!
John Deacon wrote this song and he was introverted and shy and it was him wanting to be able to break out and freer like the other band members. It was NEVER about Freddie's sexuality.People who don't know Queen have to remember that every single member wrote #1 hits.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Happy Thanksgiving to all the squad!
such a shame your reaction wasn't to the original video it an absolute classic & was banned in usa back then.
Where's the video ? Censorship ? 😁
Congrats to everyone who is early and found this comment!🏆
tnx👏
I am so happy that Queen and Freddie Mercury have become one of your favourite artists. Welcome to my world. Interesting you didn't play the official video. Upon its release it was snubbed by MTV because of the crossdressing in it and therefore wasn't a big hit in America. Much love from England 🏴
If you guys want to see Queen at their best then Live Aid 85 you must play and SEE what a Queen/ audience combination looks like. COME ON GUYS DO IT!
❤️LOVE QUEEN👑 Please react to: -Crazy Little Thing Called Love -Thanks!!!
JOHN DEACON WROTE THIS SONG!! Understandably, people think it’s written by Freddie. Not so! Freddie was a mentor to John, encouraging him to write songs, and singing John’s songs perfectly.
Radio Ga Ga live from the LIVE AID concert in 1985.
You should react to Holy War by ThyArtIsMurder. Very epic metal band
Now you need to watch the actual music video. It's... interesting and very Freddie.

Orinocco flow by Enya
The song was based on British Soap Opera Coronation Street and was about the Woman's Liberation movement not Freddie's sexuality John Decon Wrote the song and Roger Taylor's Girlfriend suggested they dress in drag
You should listen to Freddie and Montserrat Caballe who was a famous Spanish opera singer singing Barcelona..
the original video was a shout out to Carnation Street. If you're English you get it, American's just didn't.
If you love queen then you need to react to “it’s late” it’s such an awesome song! One of my favorites
There was a movie in the 80s called Highlander, well worth a watch. Queen did part of the OST, including A Kind of Magic, Princess of the universe and Who wants to live forever amongst others.
People get too crazy with stereo types this video was only sheeer fun joking around
Do The Warning "21st Century Blood" (the video)
You really should watch the proper video without the lyrics. Best video ever.
Wrong video. You shouldve watched the official video not this bland and pointless lyric video. Lets face it Freddie sings so clear you can hear the lyrics anyway. Can't imagine what possessed you to watch this video :( Shame you missed a real classic.
All this constant talk about Freddie... The whole band is amazing. Freddie had a solo album that tanked. It's the full band that makes it all work.
Please view the original video to 'I want to break free'. It's so well done with the song. That you remember it with the song.
Whether as reaction or own time listen, check out the Highlander soundtrack by Queen ! So many epic tracks.
Man I was SO disappointed this wasn't the entire video. Honestly, this song is great but it's even better watching the video.
You should watch the actual music video. It's amazing
Parody of the Brit comedy East Enders. Brilliant!
The great thing about Queen is all 4 members wrote number one songs both collaboratively and on their own
Hey jordan and amber now that you love queen be sure and check out Adam Lambert. He will never be freedie but let me tell you guys you should give queen a listen now , they are still awesome ! 😍😍
That was disappointing. It started with the video what is a real funny one, and then the lyrics, really! The song is great!
Today is my birthday and I am sad but happy to say that Freddie's Mum lived near me in Nottingham UK xxx
I’ll recommend “No One But You,” a heartbreaking tribute to Freddie that the band wrote/recorded not long after his death.
Love this one..so different love the synths used in the background
The full video was great and funny and goes with name of the group!
