The full video, not this lyric video is one of the greatest and really iconic. This 1984 hit was massive EVERYWHERE but in the United States because it fell foul of the radio stations ( and MTV) not understanding what the video was about. It was NOT promoting 'unnatural behaviour' Street. It effectively killed Queen in the United States at that time. In the video, Freddie at the last minute decided to keep his famous moustache. Of the remaining members, Roger Taylor was very delighted to be the 'schoolgirl' Brian & John were encouraged to be the 'battleaxes'. Just having the lyric video removes the full impact of the video. The alternate part was Freddie performing with members of the English Royal Ballet. FREDDIE had a long association with the royal ballet including a memorable 1979 performance that merged rock music and ballet.
@@sarablack2547 That is one of the stories, there are a few urban myths around the classic. I've taken what Brian has said in previous interviews and documentaries. Here in the UK, this Saturday on the BBC there is a 'Queen night' with a few programmes looking at classic performances and the centrepiece is a brand new documentary looking at Freddie's final days.

Just to be clear, Freddie never came out publicly as gay until just before he died. Even though it was pretty obvious that he was as camp as a row tents. A lot people by default associate this song with his sexuality, when it’s really about someone who wants to leave a negative relationship. Also it’s important to point out that John Deacan wrote the song, not Freddie.
yes agree people just jumped to the conclusion that it was him saying he was guy and the video made people say that was the proof... 🙄 I love Freddie always wanted to see them
Freddie didn't hide himself away. He often went to gay clubs in the seventies and eighties, chatting with friends, and seeming completely relaxed. People left him alone, there were no star-chasers that I could see.
@@tonybennett4159 oh didnt he do that with Elton John a few times? i recall he 100% took out Princess Diana to a bunch of gay clubs after disguising her and she had a smashing good time, which was quite hilarious to hear. not everyone can imagine a time where stars could breath easy.

In an interview with Freddie about the band dressing up in drag for music video, Freddie said “they ran into their frocks as quick as anything”. Emphasising how much they all enjoyed it. I recommend watching the extended The Great Pretender music video of Freddie’s cover version. There’s footage of Freddie and Roger Taylor doing their makeup and getting frocked up for the filming.
@@ilovefacebookandebayThat’s actually true, but my husband and I never got the point!! I remember saying, “It’s just a costume guys get over yourselves!” Keep in mind we also had the original Elton John at that point and when he came out we said, “Ah-huh! And nobody knew?” Drag wasn’t a big deal in our house so we really didn’t understand it! 😮
I’m so glad I was old enough to see the live TV airing of that! I didn’t know it then but I witnessed the best 20 min in music history! I also recorded the whole concert on VHS tapes (my brother and I took shifts) so we didn’t miss any of Live Aid performances. Then we got to watch it over and over again! Which back then wasn’t really much of a option.
This song was written by bassist John Deacon, who didn’t write a lot of songs but churned out some of Queen’s greatest hits such as, ‘I Want To Break Free’, ‘You’re My Best Friend’, and ‘Another One Bites The Dust’. Deacon’s songs tended to be heavily R&B influenced which Freddie had an appreciation for and enjoyed recording, performing and interpreting John’s music.
John wrote this at a time that he wasn't especially happy being in the band. I get why people guess that it has to do with Freddie, but it definitely does not.
@@JanS1 true, well said. I think it was that he was such a family man with a big family, he became rather tired of the endless touring and being away from home. Little did he and the others know, in 1984, that 1986 would be the end of their live/touring career.
John was the youngest member of the band. It was Freddie who encouraged John to write songs. There are a lot of stories/myths that have been built up and by writing he felt more complete.
The video for this 1984 song parodies a popular British television soap, . The opening sequence features all the band members in drag (Mercury as a housewife, Deacon as grandmother, Taylor as a schoolgirl, and May as a housewife). This confused many people who didn't catch the reference. Brian May was asked in an interview with magazine March 2011 whether each band member's character in the video was an accurate reflection of their personalities? He replied: "Of Course! Everybody thinks that was Freddie's idea because it looks like something that he would love to do but it actually came from Roger's girlfriend at the time, strangely enough. It was her idea to pastiche the women." Freddie was all set to shave off his trademark mustache for his turn as a woman in the video, but director David Mallet put a stop to it. He told the documentary series ditch the 'stache for a later segment in the video, where he is surrounded by the Royal Ballet in a nod to the French ballet and its clean-shaven Russian star Vaslav Nijinsky.
Queen has so much range in Style, and is timeless. Queens' music will be played and used in the contemporary Music/Movie soundtracks decades more in the future down the road.
Montserrat and Freddie first met in 1987 after mentioning he was a fan of hers in a 1986 interview. She was asked to help with the music for the opening ceremonies of the 1992 Summer Olympics and she picked Freddie for the task. He wrote the song and recorded a demo with overdubbed vocals singing both parts of the duet himself, using his falsetto range for the female parts. She learned her part by ear listening to Freddie's falsetto track, which was then replaced in the mix with her vocal track.

You should hear "The Show Must Go On," which, if not his last song, it was close to it. "Who Wants to Live Forever," and "One Year of Love," from the "Highlander" film are also a direction change for Queen as well. The whole "It's A Kind of Magic" album has some great things too.
Because of the absolute greatness of Freddie Mercury it's often lost that the drummer for KISS, the incomparable Eric Carr, died on the very same day after losing his battle with cancer. He was a legend as well. You should check out his drum solo with the song War Machine from Budokan Hall in Japan from 1988.
Just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Amber you look absolutely beautiful! We love queen, and Freddie Mercury has one of the most amazing voices that we'll ever hear.

My favourite song of all time! It has been ever since Christmas 1991, when I got _Greatest Hits II_ on cassette - the first pop or rock music I ever owned. Ironically it was the huge increase in profile that Queen received as a result of Freddie's death that made me, aged 12, get interested in their music. As soon as I listened to the tape it was that song that stood out for me above all others. And I've still, genuinely, never found another that can top it.

This is why Freddie Mercury is a LEGEND he could sing anything, best frontman ever. It's great that the younger generation is listening to the songs I grew up with and enjoyed. I listen to I Want To Break Free everyday but I watch the 1886 live from Wembley the bass player John Deacon is incredible. Please watch or listen to One Year of Love by Queen it's a beautiful song written by John Deacon and Freddie's voice is amazing. I know you will love it because this Queen song has horns and was on the movie Highlander.n
A great John Deacon number. As Freddie said in an interview, this has nothing to do with what he described as ‘the whole gay thing. It’s about someone who’s not happy in life and wants to break free from his troubles’. Shame you didn’t react to the original music video where the whole band are dressed in drag as British soap characters.
RIP Freddie! If I'm not mistaken this song was written by Roger Taylor and it wasn't about Freddie's sexuality. It had more to do with British humor. It was too risqué for Americans and they didn't really get the humor, unfortunately. What a great song! I have to once again request that you listen to Freddie and Montserrat Caballé - Barcelona. I promise, you'll be blown away.
It was written by John Deacon and it was about feminism and womens rights, but it was Roger Taylors girlfriend who came up with the idea of them all dressing up as women. They were trying to take of Coronation Street of I remember rightly
Thank you for honoring Freddie. Now I gotta get my vintage Vikings hat on to watch with ya. This song was written by John Deacon loosely based on Coronation Street and housewives who want to break free. Wish u could watch the official video with the guys in drag... Roger Taylor's idea btw.
I’ve been watching so many of your videos and you are definitely now my favourite reaction channel. Your passion for music, the diversity of what you listen to, your acceptance of different people, you’re respect for each other. All wonderful. Thank you. Cx
Queen did the music for the movie 'Highlander' (Christopher Lambert starred with Sean Connery). Try Princes of the Universe and Who Wants To Live Forever.
The soundtrack to HIGHLANDER was my introduction to Queen, and I’ve been a fan ever since. I also appreciate the high camp of their other soundtrack album FLASH GORDON.
I remember when this song first came out! I was around 8 years old, and I sat near my parents record player playing the air guitar! That is when I first fell in love with music! I knew what I was meant to do! Almost 40 years ago, and I remember that moment as a life changer! I do not care about Freddy Mercury's life style, not my business, but I just remember this man's natural talent. Thanks Freddy, for all of the music! Thank you bot for the amazing reaction! You are both so young! I wish that you could go back in time and hear what I heard. It is not the same.
I love you guys. I love Queen. I love that you love Queen, too. Please react to one of Freddy's (almost) swan songs, "These Are The Days Of Our Lives." He and his mates recorded it after he became ill, and knew he would pass soon. The song and video are so poignant, and Freddy's voice is as beautiful as it ever was. I'm telling ya, it's impossible to listen to it to the end with a dry eye.
I don't know if you've seen any of Queen's live performances (Live Aid, etc.), but that's where Freddie's charisma shines. He steps on the stage and he owns the crowd.
If you loved Bohemian Rhapsody then you should listen to Innuendo, one of Queens most powerful and well put together songs,it has everything and you wont be disappointed ...💥 ITS A BANGER 💥
Oh man I can't believe I didn't realize today is November 24th the anniversary of Freddie's passing. My life forever changed this day in 1992. The first time I saw Queen was in 1978 and I was 13 years old and that was a life-changing concert as well. I've been biggest queen fan ever since then. They've inspired me to play guitar, write music and not just musically but lyrically as well. To me Queen wasn't just a rock band that I love, Queen was a way of life for me. Thank you guys for doing this special tribute Freddie. rest in peace dear Freddie you're the best! 🎤🎹❤️
I have been a Queen fan from the time they released their first album. I am a citizen of the U.S. and saw the picture of them in one of my albums before I watched the Official Video. I loved it when I first saw it. I loved the video even more and it is a very significant video. I suppose if you are a Queen fan it is natural to love this one.John Deacon wrote the song and it was Roger Taylor's idea to do the official video. It was done as a spoof on a UK soap opera show. I adore this one. Elements of this video are seen in The Show must Go On that are important. Such as when Freddie closes the closet door. I find that significant. A beautiful song and video.
Hey RSR Fam...RIP Freddie...Love the hat J...An amazing Artist, Brilliant Entertainer, wonderful man...He is truly missed...Thank you for reaction, Happy Thanksgiving...Blessings
We miss you Freddie! I still love you! Queen was my first two 45s bought in the mid 70s I worked with my sister for a few hours during the summer. I got home just in time to see them doing Live Aid on TV. Amazing!! They stole the show!
You should react to their Live Aid performance from 1985. It is considered the greatest live performance in rock. It's only 22 minutes and it will blow you away
You really need to watch more live performances. Live aid (20 minutes long) would be a good starting point but there are so many amazing live Queen performances.
John Deacon wrote this song and he was introverted and shy and it was him wanting to be able to break out and freer like the other band members. It was NEVER about Freddie's sexuality.People who don't know Queen have to remember that every single member wrote #1 hits.
JRR Tolkien (Lord Of The Rings author) talked about applicability vs allegory. He dislike the latter, often because it felt manipulative and lazy, but almost all good stories are applicable in that people will find their own meanings in them. I don't think this song directly referred to anything, but many people inferred their own meanings in to it
I remember coming in after one in the morning just recently got a sky satellite..tune into sky news and was all about Freddie Mercury passing away. Couldn't believe it. RIP Freddie.
You really should watch the actual video for this song, it's amazing, and was hugely controversial for it's time. These reactions are so amazing and I love how much you LOVE Freddie, but it would be great to hear some recognition for the other members of the band too! This song was written by John Deacon, the bass player. Roger Taylor is an amazing drummer and his vocal talent is nearly as immense as Freddie's. And Brian May is one of rock's greatest guitar players. Freddie is iconic, and he was always adamant that Queen was first and foremost a collaborative effort. ❤
The Time has now come. You have experienced Queen in many fashions. Now you need to see many, if not all, the songs you reacted to performed Live at LIVE AID. They pack in so much in only 20 minutes, and owned the show. Seeing Freddie interact with the crowd, and the sheer size of the crown, will blow your minds. Even if you don't do it as a reaction; it is one performance that any Queen fan must watch. I'm going to watch that right now in Fact. Happy Thanksgiving to the Robinson Family, and the Rob Squad Family.
There was a movie in the 80s called Highlander, well worth a watch. Queen did part of the OST, including A Kind of Magic, Princess of the universe and Who wants to live forever amongst others.
They did tested on vocalists, Freddie was on list and they found that his voice is perfect pitch for the human ear. That’s why majority of people love his voice right off the bat. Then add the talent and well, just the man and you have the greatest voice!
Freddie is and was the best there ever was. There will never be another freddie. Please listen to these are the days of our lives. You'll love that song
Thank you for doing this tribute to Freddie. I've never seen this version where it was broken up with lyrics and visuals. It's nice sometimes to focus just on the words and music. I can understand your reaction completely in hindsight. The words seem so relevant to what we know now. The song "Who Wants to Live Forever" was not written for Freddie but it became more meaningful later in time.

YES!
Your goal is completed every time i watch your videos i smile. Thank you you're appreciated too i noticed a bandage on your right hand i hope you're alright amber. If you like this song you'll love we will rock you, another one bites the dust, princes of the universe,we're the champions, one vision, and hammer to fall.
You should really listen to Millionaire's Waltz. It's genius and Freddie's voice and Brian's incredible guitar work are not to be missed!
Always loved this song. A good one to sing when you feel tethered by anything in life. He made it for himself and everyone, absolute banger!
the hooks in this song are still amazing - timeless - RIP Freddie, you are so missed today :-(
"The Show Must Go On" is a must listen!!!!
Probably Queens most underrated song.
Check it out!!!!
YES!
I love the official video and song!!!!! Knew u would too! This lyric one doesn’t show you their humor but it still is awesome!
You need to watch the original video it's so iconic with who Queen is as a group and Freddie as a person
John Deacon wrote this about his wife and they are still together too. RIP sweet Freddie 💛💛👑👑
I thought You're My Best Friend was the one he wrote for her, unless he wrote more than one song for her?
@@sadfaery He did write both for her, true love still together.
Radio Ga Ga, Killer Queen, Somebody to Love…so many more!! Cant go wrong with Queen.
I never thought it was a gay thing. It was pretty obvious to me that it was about escaping the drudgery of life.
They also did Flash from the early 80s amazing soundtrack!! ✌🏼
Ah yes ' who wants to live forever' is A1!!
I just watched Highlander last night! Great movie, great soundtrack!
The soundtrack to HIGHLANDER was my introduction to Queen, and I’ve been a fan ever since. I also appreciate the high camp of their other soundtrack album FLASH GORDON.
Today is my birthday and I am sad but happy to say that Freddie's Mum lived near me in Nottingham UK xxx
He was PHENOMENAL in Concert!!! I’m a lucky person to have Queen in Concert!!!!… late 70’s👍👍❤️❤️❤️
“Love me like there’s no tomorrow” is a solo song from Freddie and is such an emotional song considering his backstory
This is my favorite queen song!!
Every Queen song is like an Anthem, so badass, so inspirational, emotional.
Always loved this song. I still get emotional listening to this.
Yesssss Innuendo 🔥 masterpiece!
Rip to a great Singer Freddie Mercury we still miss you
I have been a Queen fan from the time they released their first album.
Queen was my first two 45s bought in the mid 70s
I worked with my sister for a few hours during the summer. I got home just in time to see them doing Live Aid on TV. Amazing!! They stole the show!
You should react to their Live Aid performance from 1985. It is considered the greatest live performance in rock. It's only 22 minutes and it will blow you away
He was and still is, the best front man of any group. Rip Freddie Mercury
Awww this song, a timeless classic and one of my all time favourites. Another great video guys.
You really need to watch more live performances. Live aid (20 minutes long) would be a good starting point but there are so many amazing live Queen performances.
Please view the original video to 'I want to break free'. It's so well done with the song. That you remember it with the song.
John Deacon wrote this song and he was introverted and shy and it was him wanting to be able to break out and freer like the other band members. It was NEVER about Freddie's sexuality.People who don't know Queen have to remember that every single member wrote #1 hits.
Another great reaction. Love all your reactions. Keep up the great work. R.I.P Freddie Mercury ♥
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Happy Thanksgiving to all the squad!
JRR Tolkien (Lord Of The Rings author) talked about applicability vs allegory. He dislike the latter, often because it felt manipulative and lazy, but almost all good stories are applicable in that people will find their own meanings in them. I don't think this song directly referred to anything, but many people inferred their own meanings in to it
Parody of the Brit comedy East Enders. Brilliant!
Shout out to John Deacon who wrote some of the best songs! Freddie loved him
This is IMO is the best base line I have ever heard. Some kind of Magic is one of my favorite Queen songs.
Yes queen 😢😎💖
Be prepared as his voice is an addiction ! So much to.explore with Queen. I highly recommend.who wants to live forever and the show must go on!
Hope both of you and your family have a very happy and safe Thanksgiving
If you guys want to see Queen at their best then Live Aid 85 you must play and SEE what a Queen/ audience combination looks like. COME ON GUYS DO IT!
Such a fun song and crazy fun video! Amber you are looking fabulous! Loving the hair
Still hard to believe it's been 30 year's since we lost Freddie Mercury I still miss him 😢
I remember coming in after one in the morning just recently got a sky satellite..tune into sky news and was all about Freddie Mercury passing away. Couldn't believe it. RIP Freddie.
The song whose video killed the band in the US. And made plenty of us in England question our sexuality as the drummer looked hot..
VERY DISAPPOINTED that you didn't watch the ACTUAL VIDEO for this song! It is a HOOT!
OMGosh Amber your hair is beautiful. I'm totally jealous!! Cheers
Love this one..so different love the synths used in the background
Queens "just one year of love" will make you melt, you might just cry because the vocals are so beautiful.
Man has it already been Thirty years! I remember seeing them back in high school ! We will Rock You and We are the champions!
Looks like you took a full day of reactions for Queen. Celebrating Freddie. Awesome. You can't go wrong there.
There was a movie in the 80s called Highlander, well worth a watch. Queen did part of the OST, including A Kind of Magic, Princess of the universe and Who wants to live forever amongst others.
Queen is amazing, you should listen to Freddie and Montserrat singing "Barcelona"
They did tested on vocalists, Freddie was on list and they found that his voice is perfect pitch for the human ear. That’s why majority of people love his voice right off the bat. Then add the talent and well, just the man and you have the greatest voice!
From a little child from India to one of the world’s most recognized singers and voice of Queen..
What a legacy……
Freddie is and was the best there ever was. There will never be another freddie. Please listen to these are the days of our lives. You'll love that song
Thank you for doing this tribute to Freddie. I've never seen this version where it was broken up with lyrics and visuals. It's nice sometimes to focus just on the words and music. I can understand your reaction completely in hindsight. The words seem so relevant to what we know now. The song "Who Wants to Live Forever" was not written for Freddie but it became more meaningful later in time.
I would recommend "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "You're My Best Friend" or "One Vision".
My kids favorite Queen song. Never saw that particular video before but kudos to the video maker. Cool lyric effects.
I’ll recommend “No One But You,” a heartbreaking tribute to Freddie that the band wrote/recorded not long after his death.
This songs music video was banned in the US. The Christian right went absolutely banana's over it.
“These Are The Days Of Our Lives” ( Official Video).
The music video is really something. You guys should watch it.Great reaction. RIP Freddie. Miss you Mr Farenheit.
