Introverted, sociology major, possible social work graduate student, dreadhead. I'm definitely terrified that my anxiety will get in the way of me starting my career. I'm in my last year and a half of my BA, and I'm stressing about accumulating experience and pinpointing exactly what I should do after college .
AyyeJames it’s definitely a journey! Nerves are normal. I think watching videos like this, talking to those who are doing what you may want to do and trying things out is the only real way to do it! You got this!
Introversion can actually be a benefit in SW! Ok, as an introvert I know that it can be tough in specific situations but overall it can be a good thing!
I really want to be a social worker, but I have serious social anxiety and depression. I am in my 30s and finally in a place where I could go back to school, but I am worried I will fail due to the social anxiety. I don't want to put myself in college debt just to fail. Thank you for the encouraging words.
Hi! I'm about to enter my first year of social work school at Boston University! I also am naturally an introvert and have battled with my social anxiety for years. However, I have the passion to be a social worker. Being an introverted social worker was a topic that I have been searching for for a long time and haven't found much! I thought social workers were always extroverted. Thanks for dispelling this and for providing more information! Some of the reasons why I believed social work was the right path for me when I began this journey related exactly to the strengths you mentioned: good listener, self-aware, and intuitive. I would so appreciate more videos about introversion in social work!
Thank you very much. As weird as it may sound, I am a year one social work undergraduate student studying in Hong Kong ( I know I maybe the only person from HK watching this video). Just wanna say that as an introverted and socially awkward person, meanwhile having little to no small talk skills, I have always doubted myself about choosing social work as my UG major despite considering myself to be a relatively observative and compassionate person. Watching your video definitely helps me relieve some of my pressure. I hope that one day I would be a successful social worker. Great thanks from the other side of the world!
Aww thank you! I love that you are watching from Hong Kong. We have a super diverse audience here, so you fit right in. I'm glad this video was helpful and encouraging for you :)
Your videos are so helpful. I'm thinking of going into social work, but I'm also an introvert so it seems contradictory to being pursuing something "social". Thanks for sharing your experiences!
This is the first time I've seen a video about introverted social workers. Although my English listening is very bad, but I plan to read it carefully later. Thank you!😘
This video topic was needed.. especially the tip on how to engage with people (who aren’t clients) without getting too overwhelmed. I love your sw perspective. Keep it up!
Ahhh thank you so much for touching on this! I'm very passionate about my future career as a social work student, but am worried when I consider how I am quite introverted as well.
Awesome video! Can you do a video on MSW admissions like finding people to write good letters of recommendations and how to write a good personal statement?☺️
As i said on a previous video..you have to love this Field in order to love the patients..and have the patience to talk,,and understand us people that go and seek help..to the facilities..
Hi, I am an introvert myself about to graduate this semester with my BSW. I still have trouble with presentations and I do not feel ready for the field due to being reserved. My experience as a social work intern leaves me feeling like I will not be successful due to being an introvert. Any tips?
I suffer from social anxiety lol and I’m 1st year BSW student I’m actually starting at an agency soon and I’m pretty nervous I just think it’s about balancing for me and understanding when I need self care
Bruh I am a social worker in training on my fourth year of ma Bach.... Still trying to figure out how the heck am gonna talk to these people. I've gotten a little better at my presentations but still get that anxiety feeling
Hahahah!! You got this! You will get more comfortable with practice, I promise. And a little anxiety may always be there if you are naturally shy or introverted. But nothing that will hold you back from doing a great job.
Hello, I am from Nigeria. I studied Public administration for my Bachelor's and I have been interested in social work because I am an introvert. I am still trying to find out if social work suits my personality but I wanted to study it for my masters. Is that possible?
Hey honey! Can you please explain the difference between social work and sociology? Alot of ppl think there the same, but a sociology major told me they are really different & that you need sociology to understand social work! What are your thoughts on that? I also feel like you won't get hired quick with a sociology degree, like you would with a social work degree. & yes l love these chatty videos💖
KYESHA KNOWS SKIN omg this is a great question. Thanks for asking it. Sociology is more focused on research and social work is more specialized and teaches you how to work with underserved populations specifically. Sociology does not specifically cater to underprivileged people, as a field. And it doesn’t prepare you for hands on work like social work does. Social work was actually my minor during my BA program. If you are looking to skip grad school and go right into the field, a BSW is a better decision in my opinion. But if you want to focus on research and continue with grad school (or with getting a PhD even) sociology may be a good fit. I think sociology practices is naturally going to be apart of your BSW experience so I don’t think you need to go out of your way to get sociology training. Im gonna do a video on this!
@@MindyourSociety thank you so much! You broke it down to a T! I love that ! I fully comprehend everything you have stated ! Thank you so much for your acute information! 😘💖 Yes please do a video to help others, the way you have helped me! I can't be the only one who had this same question in the world! 😉

I retired about 18 months ago after 42 years. I am an introvert and it was good to hear you say a lot of the things that I felt.
Are you an introverted social worker? If so, tell me below how that experience has been for you?
I just started practicum and it’s overwhelming
I set my schedule so that I can rest and rejuvenate. Too many home visits in one day wipe me out!
Your videos are so helpful. I'm thinking of going into social work, but I'm also an introvert so it seems contradictory to being pursuing something "social". Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Thanks for this, I'm in my final year of the BSW program and there are so many thoughts

How are you now? Still pursuing social work?
Thank you for your videos! Super helpful, and you're a great role model for me.

“I/we know the mind!”
What lipstick are you using? It's gorgeous! Also thanks for this video. I'm also introverted and in my first year of SW
Thank you! I’m wearing the Sephora brand lip stain in color 99 (a deep burgundy). I love their lip stains so much!
Yes it frustrates me people I wish they think more
"And I'm gone shine, like I'm supposed to anti social extrovert"

Smh you remind me of the horrible experience I had with social workers… I’m a father of a child who was abused by the mother!!!! Smh
