Easy Budget DIY Tent Modifications Using Clips & Knots | Lanshan 2 Simple Upgrades
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 июл 2024
- In this video I show you how to upgrade your tent using knots, guy rope and two types of clip. The main benefits of using knots over other modifications is that there is nothing to fail and it allows the guy ropes to easily be removed and used elsewhere possibly for a tarp setup or in an emergency situation. This is an easy and budget friendly way to upgrade any tent you may have. If you have upgrades that you have done on your tent that you would like to share, pop them in the comments below.

I was just trying to remember this knot. Thank you.
The taught line hitch , probably the most useful knot you will ever learn ! , nice to see you showing this to newcomers to camping , be well my friend .
I'm fairly new to it myself, knots are very underrated and they are easier to use and learn than a lot of people think. Thanks again for watching, all the best 👍
best video for mods I've seen. Thank you. Would love to learn more basic and useful knots, and your approach was so easy to follow. Could you do a video on main knots please.
I have a few short video's on knots. I'll make a playlist for them so you can check them out. Thanks for watching, great to hear that you found this video useful 👍
Here is the playlist. They're short so you can re watch then quickly as you follow along. I hope these will help Knots: ruclips.net/p/PL1ZGqMVICbnr8V5IgDZ393Gco1pLp5aps

Cheers Paul glad it helped you out and thank you for subscribing👍🙂
Really informative video. Can't wait to get my Flames Creed and use these mods. Thank you. Subscribed.
Thank you very much, very much appreciated 👍
Some cool tips! I'm going to pinch a few as I have already broken the clips off the supplied bullnose clip ... second trip out! One thing I like to do is - those side pullouts. When I pitch up for the night I'll do a quick scout around for a couple of nice Y-shaped sticks about as high or slightly higher than the level of the pullout (I camp in the Aussie Bush so plenty of sticks within a few metres ... just make sure they aren't snakes first!). I run the line through the joint of the Y and then peg it out. This helps pull the fly (and attached inner) up and away a bit more giving you some extra room inside ;)
I do the same thing with my Lanshan 1 pro although I use a trekking pole because I only need one pole to pitch the tent. It's a really good tip to use the sticks on this tent because it makes such a big difference to the useable space inside. Fair play, thank you for sharing and thank you very much for watching 👍
Great video. One of the best for improving the lanshan. Just subbed 👍
Cheers Alan, thank you very much. Have a good week 👍
Hiya mate enjoyed the video this week. Looks nice where you were. Enjoying the variation again as knots are used widely but I don't really know what to choose. So this was helpful Thankyou. I'm terrible at remembering how to do the many different ones. Same if I don't go fishing for a while. I bought OneTigris tarp 3x4. Put it up in the garden over my Dutch army tent as a test 👍 really good. Have a good week Jason and thanks for sharing 👍
Hi yeah I thought I would try something different.. I'm hoping to do a mini series on knots, just in the short form content so I'll work on that. It's new to me too but its great when you know how to do them it is so easy and they make your guy lines much more versatile. Oh I didn't know OneTigris did tarps, I'm looking for a 2x1.5m one to go with the bivvy that is yet to arrive.. I bought a few other bits too 😂 Good to hear you are still accumulating camping gear, thanks very much it's nice to hear from you. Let me know how your tents are going the next time you are on. Have a good one 👍
Bonjour
Vous êtes génial je veux cette tente merci beaucoup
Merci, c'est une super tente. C'est mon préféré depuis longtemps
Tautline hitch is good... But you may look into the adjustable grip hitch.
It's mt preferred line adjuster...
Thank you very much indeed I will check that out. I have never even heard of that one before. Thank you for the tip, much appreciated and thank you for watching, all the best 👍
You can cut off the screw on part of an orange juice or coke bottle say, and attach your cord to the cap through a hole or two holes drilled for that purpose; the threaded bottle end can be placed on the underside of the fly sheet, and the then cap screwed on to the thread, trapping the fly material in between, which acts as a very secure but multi adjustable position clip for where you want to apply tension to the fly hem area. 🖐🏻🏴
That is a very unique but effective way of doing it once twisting the cap tight wouldn't damage the flysheet. Fair play👍
Thanks for sharing, another great vid. Liked the additional line idea and the snap hook solution. I generally have 2 guy lines that spread out 45deg from the tent to allow easier access, seems to hold equally as well in moderate wind but any stronger I put back in line if that makes sense.
Ah that is a good idea.. If I'm picturing it properly you use two guylines from the top attachment points and peg them seperately and at a 45 degree angle to each other as well as to the tent ? Wow that is hard to explain 😂 Thanks for watching, apologies if I have just completely confused the situation 😅
@@RamblingOn got it in one lol, I like your explanation much more though 🙂, hopefully moving to Co. Kildare this summer so should be getting some decent overnights in the Wicklows soon enough 👍🏻
Ah I was up near blessington lakes the other night. I didn't video it but the weather was spot on. You'll be spoilt for choice up there when you get settled 👍
@@RamblingOn happy days 👍🏻
👍
Great video, love the Croc clips and wondering if you have a link where to buy them
Cheers Scott
They do a decent job but I haven't used them all that much. Once the tent is pitched properly and well tensioned there isn't a big need for them. Here is a link to the ones I used

Cheers for the lanchan videos, what walking poles would you recommend
Hey Ronald, any trekking poles will do the job once they extend to 125cm.. Mine are carbon fibre to help keep the weight down as low as possible and the brand is Hitorhike. They have been really good so far and they don't cost too much. I can only find them on aliexpress if you want to check them out.

Just came across your channel today, liked and subbed.
Where did you get the khaki brown guy line mate? I'll be copying some of your ideas here exactly when my lanshan 2 pro arrives in a couple days.
Cheers from Co. Down
Ah cheers.. I got the guy line from Ali express but it wasn't the best so I have since replaced it with 550 paracord that I got from Amazon. It's black which I think looks pretty good and It's much easier to work with and it's proper paracord. Don't cut or change the original guy lines on your tent. At least then if you don't like the mods or you decide to sell it you can switch back to the originals 👍
Excellent video. Probably the best of the many Lanshan mods there are out there. I was going to replace the plastic ram’s head clips with the metal Zpacks hooks, as others have done, but they’re pretty expensive, so the carabiner and knots is much better. What knot did you use to attach the carabiner?
Thanks Martin. I'm not sure to be honest I think it was a simple overhand knot or a loop. You could do a diamond knot if you wanted to get fancy 😁
@@RamblingOn tying my shoe laces is about as fancy as I get!
@@SisterAbdullahX 😄 overhand knot it is so 😀 Have a good weekend 👍
Hi, new subscriber, thanks for sharing 😀
I have heard of people setting their poles at different heights but wonder if those are the measured values using a tape, or just off the pole markings. My cheap poles are 3cm longer than the marking indicate, from rubber tip to top of handle. How are yours measured? How do the taughtline hitches perform when the cord gets wet?
Hi thanks very much for subscribing.. My poles are measured using the markings on the poles themselves I'm not sure how accurate they are to be honest.. The taught line hitch performs well, some guy lines tighten better than others but like any guy line I would suggest checking them again before you settle in for the night or after they get wet.. Thanks again and thanks for watching, have a good one 👍
There has been an issue with condensation touching the inner mesh at the peak. Running another line between the mesh and fly along the peak separates the two.
Rambling on....
I've seen better, but not many
Good job 😎👍
Thanks Jay and cheers for the tip, I did have that issue once while I was camping up in Wicklow. I suppose it depends on how taut the tent is after it is pitched.
Do you think that using the little clips on the side to hold the tent down could damage the material after a lot of use? Thanks for the video.
I make sure that I don't over tighten them but I can see how they would damage that part of the material. Especially if It was particularly windy. Those clips do release if too much pressure is put on them so that would help to avoid any damage
I'm hoping to have my Lanshan 2 delivered tomorrow 🤞
I'm trying to decide between using an o ring and a line tensioner Vs what you've done with the knots.
What are your guylines made out of and what is their diameter?
Any 2mm guyline will do the job, check out some reviews and see which ones take a knot. This line is great for holding a knot, it's recommended by a lot of bushcrafters too amzn.to/4eA8iZX
@@RamblingOn awesome thanks 👍
what kind of cord are you using for the guy-lines?
The cord I used here wasn't great when it got wet. I have since swapped it out for 550 paracord which works a lot better
Can you do this for a caravan? that tent looks massive for 1.5kg.
I've weighed mine and it's 1.2kg so even better 😁 What do you mean regarding the caravan?
@@RamblingOn Thanks for video, may get tent,
So, mastered the Bowline knot, then the Procet then moved onto your top line hitch. Confused now. your topline hitch seems to be all i need, as better than Bowline as the Bowline does not adjust tension in line. So for guy ropes for tent, tarp, ridgeline, its your knot, so when would i use a Bowline and not just tighten your knot all way down. Cheers, enjoying learning.
You could still use the bowline knot on the opposite end of a ridge line or use it for tying down a load. I use it with my gear so for example I have a waterproof jacket that has a large pack size. I roll the jacket and use a bowline knot on some paracord, I run the standing end through the bowline and synch it down and tie it off. It makes a huge difference to the pack size as it compresses it down quite well and holds it all together.
There is plenty of ways to tie a ridge line and guy ropes using different knots. Find the one that works best for you and stick with it. That's what I do at least, I go for quick release and where possible I use a knot that can be adjust easily.
I hope this helps you , thank you very much for watching and all the best for 2022 👍
@@RamblingOn thank you again. Who knew knot learning could be so much fun.
I have made a lot of mods to my White Lan Shan 2 3 season, in lockdown I have sewn in 6 extra pegging points to the outer fly 4 points midway between either side of the doors and ends of the tent, I have made a real hash of lowering the inner, an utter bodge job, but it works, and the bathtub sits tight and high, and permanently to 110 cm, the tent does not have the functionality of the Lan shan anymore it is now a windproof tent, therefore it is bad with condensation, it has been fabsiled twice with waterproof coating,
it has held up in 50MPH winds and gusts over 65 to 70MPH new years eve 2021-22
I am going to purchase a 2 4 season Khaki tent for the summer months and seasonal rainy months, and stealth camping, and purchase another 3 season inner for it,
and I will not mess around with that tent so much, I will stick to the functionality of the Lan shan design with some of your sensible modifications, and pegging point clips,
It sounds like you have done some serious modifications, fair play man. If 3f UL Gear could make a Lasnhan 2 pro with a separate inner then you would have the best of both worlds
Dude, I appreciate and liked ur vid BUT! ur Thumbs! Are in way of knot tutorial!! Replay, replay, slow mo! Very annoying.. Hike on
Sorry man I'm all thumbs 🤣 Here's another video on that knot which might be better but no promises. Take her handy 👍
