- Dr Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys have some ol' time fun . If you're here by way of the Richmond Folk Fest link, take advantage of this chance to see the Doctor. You'll never regret it. I wish there was film of the Stanley Brothers from the shows we saw long ago.
Love that old time and traditional bluegrass. Much better than " loop & skip-rope music of today.
I had the honor to meet Ralph and his fiddler Curly Ray Cline at Rail Fence Park, Ohio many years ago. Will never forget them.
I've had friends, who were bluegrass fans, tell me they wouldn't cross the street to see Ralph. It's something I can't explain; you either get it or you don't. Personally he's my all time favorite. Thanks for this post!
I believe that I would have to find new friends 😂
forgive them for they know not what they’re talking about
I'm not a christian, but i love traditional music like this and Ralph Stanley
is fantastic!
Ralph Stanley is what everyone else in music want's to be like. He's the real thing!! He's every bit as good now as when I saw him in 1964 with his brother Carter.
Great musician. Soulful musician. Unique musician. So sad for us that our foundations of music for all of our lives are leaving us. We had it good, didn't we.
I don't care how many times i watch a video of Dr. Ralph sing Angel Band i still get weepy... i love this man...
Dr. Stanley will always be THE Man. Wish him Happy Birthday - today Feb. 25th - he's a perky 82!
So long Mr. Bluegrass.... The angel band has gathered you to bring you home.
THE DOCTOR IS IN THE HOUSE !!! That rustic mountain lilt to his singin is so "doin it" fer me !!!
I got to meet him, and he sit talked to me for a while. he is the most down to earth person, in the music business. I love him.

Ralph has been my favorite bluegrass singer since l was a child and heard him and Carter on the Buddy Starcher show. l met Ralph in person in Prestonberg,KY. He was so down to earth, a simple humble man! Angel Band has always beekn my favorite Stanley song. Sing with the angels now dear Ralph, sing with the Angels Ralph!!!
Love that man! Hearing him takes me back to my youth, traveling around and picking. It makes me so happy to see what great respect is shown to him onstage by other fellas and wish all of our seniors could be treated so well. God bless Ralph Stanley. He is a true southern gentleman!
The name of the clawhammer style song is "Shout little Lulu" , i believe it was the first song his mother taught him to play clawhammer.
Always loved to go watch the Stanley brothers, and old Ralph Stanley pick and sing! Still love to hear their music.
Brother Ralph, rest easy my friend
I never heared of this here fellow, but sure as hell can play the banjo boy. Goddamn!
Dr. Ralph is the man!! Seen him many times and always a great show
I sure get going when I hear bluegrass music much love and grace be given to ya all health.and goodness be given to you. Also you are a blessing thanks so much for lifting my spirits. I get so content just by hearing you.
Ole Ralph sent that song home in a taxi 🚕.
Definitely a man to look up to with smiles from the heart and ears wide open to soak his music up like a sponge. It is very hard to sit still without tapping my toes!!!!!!
I met him a time a two and he was a gentleman
This man is a legend. I am going to fly my wife and myself to Virginia in Feb 2011 just to see Ralph and the Clinch Mountain Boys (at Louisa). We live in the UK and there's not a music event I've ever looked forward to so much.
It is now 2022 and we have lost Ralph how was the trip
Soak in all you can of this legend. Amazing man!
Only someone as cool as Blake Stanley can have Blake Stanley on his banjo!
Got to go to hear them before he passed. He signed the CD I bought.Ive always loved his music since the first time I heard.I think they really are authentic .Love their selection of tunes. My dad was from SW Virginia. You could see clinch Mt. from his porch. So I've felt a connection with The Stanley bros and the boys
Today, February 25, 2014 is his 87th birthday! And he's still got it...tho he plays banjo only rarely now. Happy birthday to THE DOCTOR!

0 Dislikes. That's good music for you.
What the heck do you mean,GoUpTop9.
Ralph Stanley, and the like are a dying breed and the same folks who sing the original old Northern Ireland (Scots) songs from pioneer days.
You'll always be in my mind doc !
At his age singing "Oh Death!" "Angel Band" and the like? Shows he's a brave soul. I'd be scared death might hear and come a-lookin for me!!!
That being said, if Ralph, Lester and Earl, Bill, Doc, aint' a playin when I get up yonder? I 'aint too sure I want to go!
By now we'll have Ralph, Cash, Waylon, Hag, Prine and the list goes on. We we fortunate to be able tp die at the most appropriate time. There will be great music in heaven!
Thank you.
Ralph Stanley was one of the best
He was.one of the best and only
There never be another one like him sure could make some pretty .music on that banjo
What a life. x

Rocky Island!!!! My favourite song!!!!!
Seeing him tomorrow! I hope I get to talk to him...
🤩
Doctor Ralph- he will cure anything that ails you
Author of "Man of Constant Sorrow" from the Oscar-Winning film "Oh Brother Where Art Thou"
The man who gave Ralph Stanley the banjo looked like David Holt to me. I liked the RUclips video where that man is playing "Angel Band" on the banjo.
j adore sa le bandjo
This is from Richmond's old train station, now repurposed as a Science Museum. Ralph's above the tracks from the coal days of rail travel.
Ralph's son, guitar, grandson, mandolin, are also playing here
Thanks. There have been several song titles suggested, and you're likely correct. Hoping to have a chance to hear the Doctor soon.
I think I saw smoke coming off those banjer strings. 😂
mick martin whats the matter everybody is entitled to dislike it its there view so respect it
Real country music
ralph is the best bar none no 1 dose it like this man
RIP Ralph Stanley...
Check out his album "Old Time Pickin'" a Clawhammer Collection
He's performing at a benefit for children with cancer . And not trying to fool anyone. I see you've pursued Dr. Stanley around RUclips dropping similar comments as you go. I've spent a good bit of time in his presence this election season and am certain he;s a fine Christian man who wants what is best for his people.
I'm goin' to get a claw and a hammer and a banjo
Wildwood Mountain is the first song I believe.
I simply do not care who he supports. He is an AMERICAN and he can support who he wants. I am here to hear him perform, not to joust with him politically.
RIR DR.RALPH
Amen.
What a great video anyoe got the name of the song?
Sure sounds like he is singin Lil Liza Jane
PICK IT BRO RALPH SING IT GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He's from Virginia, not West Virginia.
Rocky Island I think.
Why is Ralph not signing HIS song Man of Constant sorrow'?
Rocky Island.
Hard to know what Jesus WOULD think, but He had a lot of witty things to say about sanctimony and the motes-and-beams problem.
@Jim Wisecrack.....who in the world is Blake Stanley?
@matthanja Couldn't figure out the title for it, but didn't want to let that hold it back. I see that it's my most watched video, and it peaks in some countries as a picker tries to get it down like The Doctor.
I believe he is singing Liza Jane.
Shout Little Louie
maybe you are not dead cuz I just saw a post that says they saw you last year so my apologies you're still living which means you should remember that night unless you two were that drunk but I was not that little girl's life from 11 years old and on has been nothing but pain
What is the name of the song he is playing clawhammer to? I am hearing impaired and couldn't catch it.
@matthanja Rocky Island
Yet there have been 3 dislikes in the past 3 months. Must have ended up here by mistake, chasing links from something they liked.
@matthanja it sounds like pig in a pen
41 years ago a bus tour bus hit a car in the rear on Route 23 on a dark Rainy Night you didn't even apply brakes ran into our car the back end looks like an accordion that was my 11th birthday my back has been crushed and grown back together wrong and you offered my drunk father $100 which he drank all up in Early Times whiskey I'm still paying for your mistakes even though we were all drunk a child of eleven has never seen a pain-free day since but your grandson Rascal Flatts making millions still today while I don't walk right trying to take care of bedridden mother disabled husband and daughter I think the behavior then and the lack of compassion today is a big part of what's wrong with our country and I just think that everyone should know just not the right thing to do legally or morally
Bonnie Park
please, who is your comment to, poor dear???
He was waaaaay better than Johnny Cash, Waylon and Willie Nelson. Whats all this nonsense here that this is " country music" when it is BLUEGRASS!??
