    I used toothpaste only on my 1920s Parker Duofold tonight. Came out amazing! Thank you, it removed some staining I thought would never come off.

    DO NOT USE TOOTHPASTE ON NIBS. Toothpaste will remove far more material than you think, and will wear away imprints and plating on a nib. Just use water, elbow grease, and an ultrasonic cleaner.

      Can i use an ultrasonic cleaner on a gold plated nib or that will remove the plating?

    • @J0hnstrains
      @J0hnstrains 2 месяца назад

      @@nikossiotas I wouldn't, if it's a vintage nib. The ultrasonic cleaner can cause some of the gold plating to flake off. Should be fine on more modern nibs though.

      @@J0hnstrains Thank you for answering! It's an old one, so i guess it would be better to just let it overnight in ammonia water.

    Small amount of toothpaste on soft ear buds do the job better and safer, an important thing is to make only moves along the nib and never sideways cause you may damage the very tip I.e. alignment of tines. If you want to remove stains you should degrease the nib next put sheat of aluminium in a deep plate put nib on that aluminium then sprinkle generously with salt and cover all of that by the boiling water and left for couple minutes, after that wash nib in cold water and all stains are removeed.

      wow awesome i heard about this with to clean silverware, does this get oxidization discoloration off nibs as well just got an old fountain pen 1930;s and don't know if i could try to clean myself

    • @THIPTHEP88
      @THIPTHEP88 4 года назад

      What do you use to degrease it first?

    • @welchianachi7707
      @welchianachi7707 4 года назад +2

      @@THIPTHEP88 (!!!gold nib only!!!) There is no risk except you have to dismantle nib from the section and feed. Next you have to wash the nb in liquid soap solution, liquid soap is preferable due it does not leave any residues after rinsing. After soap wash good practice is to use vinegar to disolve any Limescale. Then after rinse out from vinegar good practice is to use alkohol to degrease any leftover amout of oils etc. After all of that prepare clear thin sheat of plastic that could be fitted into nib slit. Using this sheat put it into the slit and use it to swipe all eventually residues in nib slit, from the hole toward tines. After all of that degrease again and use aluminium shet and salt in boiling water method to remove any leftower oxidation. Now your Nib should be as good as new. If you want you may polish the nib with ear buds and toothpaste then rinse and again swipe the slit with sheet plastic.

    Among my Pens during my school years, I have a Red Plastic Sheaffer USA. The nib is marked " HAI IC ". I wonder what HAI IC means ! During the last few years, I used to sign cheques and Documents with this Red Plastic Sheaffer. What HAI IC stands for, please ?
