I found a Waterman pen from the 1940s in a chased ebonite body. It was my father in law's gift from his Mother when he went into the Navy. It was not used probably since that time. Of course I pulled he lever and it did not budge. Thankfully I did not go any further and had it restored. It is lovely writer and the oldest pen in my collection.

I bought three lever fillers this weekend at the Ohio Pen Show, so this is very timely - thank you!

Thank you so much for your video. I just inked up my new vintage pen! I just bought a few vintage pens on Ebay (each with a different ink mechanism) and I am happy to report they all write beautifully including my lever fill Shaeffer balance.

A nice simple and informative video. Would the procedure be similar for a Touchdown filler?? Maybe you can do a short video on that if you haven't already done so.

It's a sac filler, so it's squeezing the sac, so similar in that. Cleaning is virtually identical, in my experience.

I wish I had watched this ten minutes ago, before I tried the lever on the pen I set aside 50 years ago with ink in it and found today.

Very helpful; thank you! I noticed that you used Waterman ink.
Are other inks safe for vintage pens or only Waterman ink?

Hi Amy, we often use Waterman ink for dipping pens in the store or for demonstrations, mainly because they rinse out so easily. Almost all modern ink made by major brands is safe for vintage pens.
