It will never cease to be mind-boggling, that USA could go from a decent, bright, capable, caring and coherent human being like Obama, to something like trump.
Far too many Americans are willfully ignorant, lack critical thinking skills and are easily manipulated by right-wing/corporate propaganda.
The oblivious answer? Russia/China, and them being allowed to influence western nations freely by manipulation of freedom of speech.
MAGA is a huge cult made up of smaller cults, high demand and fundamentalist religions who teach right wing ideologies. Fox and other propaganda outlets tell their viewers to hate the Dems. Republicans for a few decades now have been moving away from democracy and more and more toward authoritarianism. David Frum said, "If Conservatives become convinced that they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will abandon democracy."
I think MAGAts think Trump was so good because 1. They have abandoned democracy. 2. They want people to "just obey". 3. They want a patriarchy, and a strong patriarchy. 4. Owning the libs is more important than anything else. 5. Somehow they think all of Trump's awful policies won't affect them. And they may be partially correct. They aren't upset about forcing religion in schools because the MAGAts are forcing Christianity in school. They aren't worried about Trump caging kids because their kids are fine. They aren't worried about making being LGTBQIA illegal because they aren't LGTBQIA. I'm essentially rewriting that "First they came for the socialists" poem by Martin Niemöller. They know the MAGAts want to get rid of SS and Medicare, but they don't seem to care. I think this is something they just vote against their best interests. Or, maybe they think the MAGAts won't actually end SS and Medicare. I mean, they've been trying to overturn Roe v Wade for DECADES, and a lot of Americans were surprised when it actually happened. I personally thought it was "just" political rhetoric. Maybe MAGAts think the same about SS.

For the 2020 election to be as close as it was and polls to be like they are now you really have to question the morals, ethics and intelligence of a big portion of the USA! He wont be. There are two people in prison right now, awaiting trial, on only ONE of the 91 charges Trump is facing, and he walks free. A judge said, "Yeah, he lead an insurrection to overthrow our government and that lead to loss of life, but he can run for president."
Another judge say, "yeah, he raped a woman. Throw some money at her."
And he WALKS FREE. Trump will never even see the inside of a cell, let alone be confined to it. There are two sets of laws in the country. And BTC, here, is nothing more than the left's Tucker Carlson. Spouting bullshit rhetoric like, "Trump could face jail time" knowing FULL WELL he is full of shit and that will never happen. Our country is corrupt and we are nothing more than collateral to them.
We're going to have to fight Trumpism/fascism for a while. Project 2025, for example, was not written exclusively for Trump. Say Biden wins next year and Trump kicks the bucket or goes to prison or is out of the picture for some reason. Project 2025 easily become Project 2029. The point is that the Republicans/MAGAts have abandoned democracy and want a dictatorship. And, of course, they'll have longer to figure out how to quickly implement their plan. So we're going to be fighting this for a long time.
I agree, but not sure we can ever rest. The MAGAs will still be in Congress and Senate, and Trump will never stop whining and scheming. Democracy will need to be constantly vigilant.

I will never forget the graciousness and maturity the "Obamnas!" displayed welcoming trump to the White House. While knowing full well what a disaster it would be for the country and how he felt about him in all actuality...Then trump was too much of a butt hurt child to even attend Biden's inauguration. Televangelists should have their tax exempt status removed, they sell indulgences, prayer cloths, books, tracts, pamphlet, records, films, tapes, and touches from God on air, which makes them a commercial broadcasting station. The TCT network actually tells its viewership who to vote for, and who not. I attend a brick and mortar church every Sunday, we refrain from electioneering while in service, and never from the pulpit.
We have a small congregation of about 12 regulars. Our pastor holds a full time job, our collections and offerings barely pay the taxes, and keep the lights on. The loss of tax exempt status would surely make keeping our little church open more difficult. I guarentee you this, if churches lose tax exempt status our church will not scatter, we will hold services in a rented space or someone's home. The separation of church and state was not meant to exclude God from the people of thus country. The separation of church and state was meant to provide a partition between the Commander in Chief and the 10 commandments, Machiavellian thought says you sometimes can't be honest with the people and maintain control of the state, this truth of politics is in sharp contrast to the thou shall tell no lie of Christianity. All citizens are free to worship or not, who, or what they view as their God. In Italy the Catholic church is the dominant religious sect, in the United Kingdom the Anglican Church is the dominant sect, but the Pope and the Archbishop of Canterbury have no say in the governments of Italian or the United Kingdom. The separation of church and state, and the tax exempt status of brick and mortar churches should not stand between children and an education, but the taxation of corporate America and the 1 or 2 percent of taxpayers who recieve much and pay little can be redressed and the lost revenue from corporate America and the super wealthy not paying their fair share can be applied to educational improvements.

I think another factor affecting the memory of the American electorate is that a lot of the craziness of the trump administration is attributed to COVID and not trump himself. Many people are selectively deleting a lot of the craziness of that time and writing it off as cabin fever from the lock downs. All the more reason to remind people that trump was the author of a lot of that insanity.

Something I think needs to be addressed: How can a convicted criminal be allowed to run for president, much less be elected to this Office? What laws are in place to allow for someone who has committed treason, advocated for the overthrow of a duly elected president, be allowed outside of jail, let alone become president?

The more contrasts between Biden and Trump in campaign ads, the better. It's always a good idea, to refresh the memories of those who haven't really paid that much attention, especially since the escalator ride. Contrast the difference between Biden's reaction when a baby cries to Trump's, or 911/fallen soldiers, losers and suckers, and heartfelt meaningful speeches. Showcase the character differences between the 2 men, such as greeting their wives.
It's an easy choice. Biden is for democracy; DJT isn't. Biden is for women being in control of their lives; Trump isn't. Biden has produced a better economy; DJT didn't. Biden brought manufacturing back to the U.S.; Trump didn't. Biden will work with world leaders; Trump won't.

Here is the question: Article 2 section 6 of the Constitution says if the President is unable to discharge his duties, the presidency goes to the Vice President. I would argue if the President is in jail, on its face, he is unable to discharge his duties.

I don't think we need the Electoral College. The American voters of today are better informed than earlier days. Unlike In the early days many citizens received little news about the political candidates compared to today. By using the popular vote now is most direct outcome without using a complicated equation to say "This is what voters really want." NO...use the actual vote counts!
There was a time in our historical elections method that served a positive purpose. We have now, many generations forward, progressed in many ways including the way news is received by our citizenship. Voters today have huge advantages in being informed.
A person being indicted can still run for office. And not just once, 4 times. It blows my mind.
I think that Independent voters, Gen Z and Millennials are vastly underrepresented in the polling, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. In a way I feel like the pandemic did Trump a favor in that it gave him an out for his abysmal record on the economy. There are too many people who think Trump was good for the economy when even discounting the pandemic he had the worst record since President Hoover.

Here is one scenario. Judge Chutkan allows the media companies application to televise the trial of DJT. Having read the filings on this I would say this is a possibility. People will see that the evidence and that DJT was not being persecuted and vote against him at the General Election in November. The problem DJT is that he would not be able to appeal the decision to televise the trial because in his filing he demanded that the trial be televised.

Frankly, I voted for Biden because of his experience, and how much he cares about the American people, his ability to negotiate. He's a good man and Trump is not a good man. I've been a democrat since my second election. My parents were republican but after my first voting experience, I changed parties. I'm 76 and have always voted and always will. The polls are wrong. I checked the 2019 polls, one year ahead of the election. Trump was polling at 46% while Biden was polling at 41%. Biden won with 51.3% of the vote; Trump lost with 46.8%. The same thing happened with the expected red wave in 2022.
