  • Former President Barack Obama sat down with The Verge’s editor-in-chief and Decoder host Nilay Patel to talk about AI, social networks, and how to think about democracy as both of those things collide. The conversation, which took place just hours after President Joe Biden signed his executive order on AI, covers some of today’s biggest issues in tech and policy. Of course, we also had to ask Obama what apps he has on his homescreen. #AI #Technology #Podcast

the Iran nuclear deal also removed some $100 billion in sanctions on Iran. This made Iran once again a big player in the Mideast. It's almost certain that a good piece of that went to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards, which by some accounts control as much as 40% of Iran's economy.
It's clear from Obama administration actions, under both his Secretaries of State, Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, that the Obama White House despised Israel and did all they could to undermine its security. It's clear from Obama administration actions, under both his Secretaries of State, Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, that the Obama White House despised Israel and did all they could to undermine its security. How else can you explain the enabling of a terrorist-supporting regime?
The Obama administration failed to enforce its own "red line" in Syria on chemical weapons. By doing so, it in effect invited both Russia and Iran into that disintegrating country. Iranian troops today are within striking distance of our one true ally in the region, Israel.
      Mideast Disintegration
The disintegration of Libya, the collapse of Egypt, and Turkey's embrace of radical Islam, all took place under Obama's watch. None of them were in the U.S.' interest.
The Mideast has been a mess for decades, but things got markedly worse under Obama. A big reason is the Iran nuclear deal didn't make anyone in the Mideast, Europe or U.S. safer. But it did empower the terrorist-supporting mullahs in Tehran.
The mullahs are now funding terrorism on Israel's border. They're biding their time until they can get another anti-Israel president in the White House. Mullahs with a nuclear weapon will be a nightmare. President Trump has a big job still ahead of him, but in his first year and a half in office he has undone much of Obama's damage.
All of this because the Obama administration signed a deal that not only didn't end Tehran's nuclear program, but merely postponed it for a decade, all while doing nothing about its terrorist activities. Now we find that Obama also helped finance that.
Paying to support terrorism, and not telling the American people about it. Still think the Obama administration was "scandal-free"?

@@SunnyWinterz Iran is indeed a dangerous terrorist state that not only has a powerful standing army, air force, navy and advanced weapons systems - including ballistic missiles and a growing space program - but also controls multiple proxy terrorist organizations responsible for killing and injuring hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children.
Included on that list of victims are thousands of American military personnel and contractors.
These were facts that former President Obama knew when he deliberately chose a policy of appeasement and cash payoffs instead of strength and accountability as the way to deal with Iran.
President Trump spelled this out in no uncertain terms on Wednesday when he addressed the nation while seeking to dial down the imminent threat Iran may pose to our nation, the Middle East and the world.
Said the president in part, “Iran’s hostilities substantially increased after the foolish Iran nuclear deal was signed in 2013 and they were given $150 billion, not to mention $1.8 billion in cash. … Then, Iran went on a terror spree, funded by the money from the deal and created hell in Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan and Iraq. The missiles fired last night at us and our allies were paid for with the funds made available by the last administration.”

Can anyone seriously believe Trump could have an intelligible conversation about AI?

“I know AI, I’ve always been great with AI. Some people say I know AI the most. Great people, terrific and loyal people. AI is huge but very dangerous.. Chyna wants AI, democrats want AI, it’s true. People say “Donald, everyone is using AI against you!” But of course I have the best AI, amazing AI.”

Regulations for AI should not be skewed to benefit enterprises.
The framework principles should be aligned with the common law.
Create regulations that make the virtual world as close to the real world as possible.
    My 2 cents.

Soon as we have super intelligent AI.. Capitalism, or at least some of the core justifications for how it works, becomes invalid for the average worker. Prove me wrong.
We're going to need to make major changes, and people need to wake up and demand them asap. Requiring everyone compete for their survival, just doesn't work anymore, once people have to compete against something like ASI. There simply won't be enough of the jobs AI cannot do, for everyone. Ideas like an AI Dividend from taxes on AI, or an Unconditional Basic Income are absolutely necessary, and the sooner the better!

EXCELLENT interview. I wonder if we should be asking AI how to best regulate AI. 🤣🤣 Seriously, maybe an AI system developed solely for the purpose of providing Congress with the best policies/laws to regulate AI might be the smartest approach?

One of the smartest and most relatable Presidents we have ever had. I loved how he really pushed the green technologies into existence. Something that I personally believe in to this day. I am happy he is doing well and still maintaining a positive public figure leading by example. Leading by example was my single most favorite part of Obama. That means a lot to me and is something I think about in my own life when leadership is required. There is no better leadership than leading by example in my opinion.
