My favorite part: when Curly sings "Don't take my arm to much Don't keep your hand in mine" and she tries to pull her hand away and he won't let go, and I don't think his voice could be any more beautiful but then he sings "Your hand feels so grand in mine". So perfectly sublime. His voice and the way he looks at her hand is enough to make any heart melt. This song never gets old for me. No one will ever sing this like Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones.

Apparently she even admitted in an interview back in the day that she had a bit of a crush on him, lol... then they got matched again in Carousel! So those looks on her face of admiration & day dreaming are definitely genuine, lol. So cute! Imagine having a crush on a fellow actor, then you're placed in a movie opposite of him that has a love story involved between you two... I really can't think of anything more romantic, than being able to sing with someone that you're in your feels about, even as a crush!

@@acegikm Shirley Jones said that when she first came to Hollywood he was just about the only man who didn't make a pass or come on to her. Cementing their friendship for many years to come. Cute story- Richard Rodgers did try to get fresh. She deflected him by saying 'Why Mr. Rodgers, you're just like my father'!
I saw this musical at Drury Lane Theatre London with Howard Keel in 1948 - I was 4 years old my late Father was a major musical and show biz fan I can still remember the binoculars you could get from their holder from the seat in front. “Oh what beautiful times”
That’s for sure. I married her lookalike in 1977. 23 years old, hair of gold, blue eyes. Lost her to breast cancer in 2007. Am still devastated. Watching Shirley Jones brings back her memory, comforts me. Oklahoma does the same thing.
love the day I saw it for the first time, I was so little that I held my mothers finger tips; we couldn't move when the movie started, it was beautiful, loved every second, used to hear my mother sing the songs, sweet
Best version of Oklahoma, in my opinion! I grew up watching Shirley Jones and Gordon MacRae in this film. They played these roles to perfection! Love it! Thanks for putting this up BravoDivine!
I wish I was Curly and my wife was Laurey and we were in Oklahoma 150 years ago. this was the first movie I seen in 1959 that was in color. when i was in first grade in the school auditorium in the Bronx. and ever since then almost every day of my life i sing ''oh what a beautiful morning''
I was referring to the love, romance and passion between them. Those days were a lot more peaceful than our complicated and crazy world. From childhood all men have to be taught to respect all women, as my mother did with myself. I work 7 days a week. When I get home, I mop. sweep, do the dish's, take out the trash and do my laundry. I help my wife a lot. My mother taught me that not all women are alike. So please don't think all men are alike.
Edward Guzman noone said that... still, I wouldn't have wanted to be born 150 years ago... I like to wear pants also the romance and passion was the same... how could that change? people are just more open if they don't like something... people don't have to stay married if they don't want to and maybe less people might care what the neighbors are thinking there would be no difference between 150 years ago and today, except that your wife would have not as many rights and now there's computers and stuff
I love this musical so much, I just wish more young people knew about all these amazing musicals from the past! I'm so glad I was brought up with musicals like this :)

Good luck to you 😊
Journeyman I know I did the same and it was a mind blowing experience, however I try not to use earbuds or headphones as I don't want to lose my hearing as I could listen for hours!!!
This is my favorite film, probably of all time! Gordon MacRae was, and still is one of the best singers we've ever heard. I can't believe that lots of people from my generation haven't even heard of Gordon MacRae, or even this film! Yet they will happily watch the crap we have to endure, eg high school musical, hannah montana etc. THIS is what you call a musical! :)
My parents and I used to watch all these old musicals back to back when I was a kid. Our heat and air would break on the top floor of our old house, so we’d move our beds downstairs into the living room side-bye-side and watch all the taped VHS’s of Oklahoma, West Side Story, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, South Pacific, etc... until we got enough money together to fix the furnace. Fond memories, still know all the words.
I saw this musical in high school (sophomore year). I had never gone to any stage productions, and I was moved by the students' singing, the high school band, the sets, and everything about the musical. The music and lyrics remained with me for years. The work the students and their faculty advisor did to make that musical happen was absolutely amazing. That performance opened a whole new world for me of the theatre, of musicals, of taking music lessons, and of appreciating the power of performance.
So do I. I give thanks I lived in an era where such films were made. West Side Story, Camelot, Oklahoma, South Pacific, Carousel, My Fair Lady, Brigadoon. What have we got now that could even hold a candle to that type of music or talent?
Brian Howarth nah bruh if you listen to this garbo you def like putting shit up your ass. This was back when everyones iq was below 70 and when they thought the atom was the smallest object in the universe.
Agreed - I still rate a musical on the number of songs that I can sing, from memory, on my journey home from theatre. I often have to look up something, when I re-hear it. One exception - ALW has some pretty I indelible hooks.
Happy 100th Birthday To You Gordon MacRae! A wonderful singer you were. A good actor too! Thanks for all those films, the ones with Doris Day and this one.
Apparently Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip had this as "their" song when they first met and fell in love. They were trying to hide it from the press.
Remember, though, she was still HRH The Princess Elizabeth (the article takes a capital 'C' as she was a blood royal princess, the daughter of the Soveriegn).
It's true from what I've been reading. Phillip one time even put on western style clothing, it might have been on a visit to rural Canada but I could be wrong.
This movie was recently on television, and I'd forgotten not only how wonderful the songs were, but how incredibly superb Gordon and Shirley were singing them...what magnificent voices. And long before all the doctoring available to today's so called singers. I just love this!

are you sure it was because of your choice of music? :)) (kidding).. I am right there with you.. and am right now listening to the 5th rendition of this (and other R&H songs) :)
I would proudly be the weirdest! Gorgeous music from a wonderful era for art and love.
Gordon is Godfather to Shirley's son. They remained life long friends.
Which son?
@@mariekazyak5233 Shaun.
They had great chemistry. I think in real life they were in love.
He really had a beautiful voice!
I love these two singing together. They sound incredible.
A beautiful song well sung. Sadly not many of todays 'hits' will be remembered in fifty years time.
+Nigel Womersley it's 60 years now, since this film was released.
That is so true
Such a lovely song, so beautifully done; their body language + facial expressions makes it delightfully romantic + heartwarming!!
Movie Mary popping
Marcia we share the same soul...

Brilliant musical from the two best ever musical writers Rodgers and Hammerstein. Unsurpassed.
This is one of my favorite musicals.
What a gorgeous couple they made! And sing...OMG! Beautiful..makes me wish I was young again!
That is just what I was thinking,
A lovely sentiment rendered perfectly by Mr. Hammerstein. What a wonder with words he was.
Everything about this is perfectly impeccable!
I saw this musical at Drury Lane Theatre London with Howard Keel in 1948 - I was 4 years old my late Father was a major musical and show biz fan I can still remember the binoculars you could get from their holder from the seat in front.
“Oh what beautiful times”
Shirley Jones....absolutely gorgeous.
You got that right.
Exquisite
Ginger or Mary Ann? ... Mrs. Brady or Mrs. Partridge?
That’s for sure. I married her lookalike in 1977. 23 years old, hair of gold, blue eyes. Lost her to breast cancer in 2007. Am still devastated. Watching Shirley Jones brings back her memory, comforts me. Oklahoma does the same thing.
940hahl, Bless you forever. I hope this and so many other things can bring a bit of happiness and joy to you.
Gordon had a velvet voice. Pure gift from God like Robert Goulet, Perry Como, Andy Williams, Nat King Cole & others.
love the day I saw it for the first time, I was so little that I held my mothers finger tips; we couldn't move when the movie started, it was beautiful, loved every second, used to hear my mother sing the songs, sweet
Our Queen and Prince Philip's "Our Song" R.I.P. to both of them, may they dance to it forever XXX
Best version of Oklahoma, in my opinion! I grew up watching Shirley Jones and Gordon MacRae in this film. They played these roles to perfection! Love it! Thanks for putting this up BravoDivine!
Gordon is buried in Lincoln, NE. His cemetery stone had the music from "Oh What A Beautiful Morning".
Absolutely love this song. Two of the best singers ever!
I'm not sure if she would like to be in oklahoma 150 years ago
You might want to rethink that. Lol. No dental floss or antibiotics.

also being treated like shit
I was referring to the love, romance and passion between them. Those days were a lot more peaceful than our complicated and crazy world. From childhood all men have to be taught to respect all women, as my mother did with myself. I work 7 days a week. When I get home, I mop. sweep, do the dish's, take out the trash and do my laundry. I help my wife a lot. My mother taught me that not all women are alike. So please don't think all men are alike.
Edward Guzman
noone said that... still, I wouldn't have wanted to be born 150 years ago... I like to wear pants
also the romance and passion was the same... how could that change? people are just more open if they don't like something... people don't have to stay married if they don't want to and maybe less people might care what the neighbors are thinking
there would be no difference between 150 years ago and today, except that your wife would have not as many rights and now there's computers and stuff
I love this musical so much, I just wish more young people knew about all these amazing musicals from the past! I'm so glad I was brought up with musicals like this :)
I love Broadway Musicals! :D I'm thirteen.
I also loved Broadway musicals when I was 13- I've loved them all my life. Oklahoma! is one of my favourites.
Huge theater/broadway fan here. I got started on this and The Sound of Music. Musicals are the best thing ever
I’m a millennial who’s a fan of the classics almost as I am of modern works
One of the grand love songs of all time!
Top 10 all time romantic duets from the best musicals. And Shirley Jones/Gordon Mccrae were never topped.
What great singers. And what a great movie. I saw a redo of the play, Oklahoma, in the 70’s in Philadelphia. It was wonderful.
Always reminds me of my Mom and Dad...they used to sing it at shows and such...for church and things...I miss them.
I agree with u all where has real.love and romance gone now I feel sorry for young girls today they do not know what they are missing everything went pear shaped after the 1960s love the old musicals love the old songs words told a story and meant something eh
Me too. I’ll be 55 tomorrow and I feel nothing can ever be the same without my folks
@@ruffian25505 thank you for your nice reply do you live in England or in America my husband died a year ago but I have a lovely daughter my only child I would have loved a son too have any nice friends u can reply if u like I like to listen to other folks troubles love sentimental songs best wishes olive
Olive Lane I live in England with my husband and 2 teenage sons. My husband and I are ex Royal Opera singers, and are going to sing this duet in a local concert. My husband will sing Oh what a beautiful morning, and I will sing Falling in love with love from the boys from Syracuse. We have decided this music is so wonderful, better for the audience than opera. My dad who was buried 2 years ago today used to sing oh what a beautiful morning.... I miss him so much. Good luck to you 😊
My mother had the original movie soundtrack album. I don't ever remember not hearing it. Oklahoma and South Pacific are my favorite R&H musicals.
I put ear buds on and had an out of body experience listening to this - unbelievable. More please!
Journeyman I know I did the same and it was a mind blowing experience, however I try not to use earbuds or headphones as I don't want to lose my hearing as I could listen for hours!!!
gossamerwings Yes, hard not to pay attention to Rodgers and Hammerstein. (Seems like they didn't make enough of it IMO).
This a time when love was king and people were not so obsessed with sex And this is what is wrong today.
R&H's other similar song is "If I Loved You" from Carousel. Also a classic.
So many times I wish I had a girl to sing this to.
Saw Gordon McRae at the Holiday Inn across from the Fenton Chrysler Plant outside St. Louis in 1971. His voice was just as strong and wonderful!
ALWAYS enjoyed watching Rogers and Hammerstein with my ole man...thankful to find these clips to sing with my kids...miss you ole man🙏🏾💗
Awwwww, this is SUCH an adorable yet romantic song!
Fond memories, still know all the words.
what a doll he was with such a stunning voice!
Brilliant, visually and lyrically, the way they go from trying to hide their love for each other to not caring.
That performance opened a whole new world for me of the theatre, of musicals, of taking music lessons, and of appreciating the power of performance.
wish they still made movies like this, or My Fair Lady, Music Man, etc.
So do I. I give thanks I lived in an era where such films were made. West Side Story, Camelot, Oklahoma, South Pacific, Carousel, My Fair Lady, Brigadoon. What have we got now that could even hold a candle to that type of music or talent?
Brian Howarth lol f u this is trash compared to 21 jumpstreet or Pineapple express
@@idra8138 How would you know? Like undeveloped film , you have never been exposed to real talent.
This is a complicated song made legend by such talent of McRae and Jones.
It’s 2024 and this is one of my favorite R+H tunes! It’s tough to find genuine chemistry between two leads these days like Gordon & Shirley
Gordon & Shirley made a lovely couple and boy could they sing especially Gordon he had a fantastic voice one of the best ever in musicals
Such wonderful singing from such beautiful actors! This really was magic.
the voices and the instrumentals, so perfect
the lyrics, too, so witty
Just lovely. Gordon and Shirley. Perfect casting.
They don't make singers like that anymore, absolutely superb.
Beautiful singing and a wonderful song. Perfection.
Happy 100th Birthday To You Gordon MacRae! A wonderful singer you were. A good actor too! Thanks for all those films, the ones with Doris Day and this one.
Gordon Mc.--most handsome man out of Hollywood. What a dream boat.
Pure escapism, lovely, those 2 always my favourite.
This movie was recently on television, and I'd forgotten not only how wonderful the songs were, but how incredibly superb Gordon and Shirley were singing them...what magnificent voices. And long before all the doctoring available to today's so called singers. I just love this!
Two beautiful young people at the height of their powers. A match made in heaven. It will never be equalled:)
With you all the way on that.
Philip Thomas
RUclips is wonderful Philip because you have access to all this wonderful music. Good morning:)
I completely agree.
Yes a great duet, but also Sky Masterson and Sister Sarah in "Your eyes are the Eyes of a Woman in Love" from Guys and Dolls.
