      Got this 33mm order!!! ❤ Can't wait. Just an FYI, it might be a good idea to do a deep dive video and explain why the open gate is so advantageous for 2x anamorphic. I see a lot of people don't understand that an image is not getting wider, but stretched in a vertical plain, why you crop off so much of the image with a 16:9 recording format sensor. Cheers for all the content ❤

    This is a great video and thanks to everyone for making it. Now we have 1.5x and 2.0x anamorphic from Blazar, and as a new to this world of anamorphic I'm curious to see literally side by side the lenses within the same scene. It's now really hard to decide between them since both of them look amazing on Lumix s5iix open gate.
    I would appreciate a ton if you could compare Remus 50mm with Cato 55mm to see the difference in bokeh.

    The lens flares, are a bit harsh aren't they and they draw a full line across the screen? I feel like they should bloom more? They feel like fishing wire or artificial. I'm not knocking flares, these just feel harsh? I guess my preference has aligned more with Panavision style flares. I know those are generally the most hated however if abused.

      @@cammackey Sure I can pretty much say that I do like to a degree the Sirui in general with neutral/natural. I find the flares to be a bit more bloom forward rather than a hard line. In your test I'm seeing a much more hard line vs a more natural fall off or feathering to the horizontal flare. Also to be more clear the out of focus flare looks great, I'm talking about the sharp in focus lens flare but frankly I think most look good then. Also of course not a fan of forced colored flares. I do wonder how the Blazars might look with if you tested like you did with your flashlight but rather used a more movie standard of a HID flashlight combined with a little bit of atmosphere(fog/haze). It could be that its a bit to clinical of a test perhaps. Any who enjoy the conversations and keep up the great videos.

    • @hexrockstar
      @hexrockstar 3 месяца назад

      I agree about the harshness, I was hoping to see some feathering like a JDC Xtal Express in Poltergeist, But overall this is the closest look for such a low price. Considering most Hollywood movies using the Xtal that I have seen do not always flare intentionally all the time. A lot of them are horror movies.

    It's funny, I have never heard anyone say "I don't like anamorphic flares" (just not come across those I guess) but I've become annoyed by them for many years. I love the character anamorphic lenses bring but I feel some manufacturers like to exacerbate those blue flares and to me it becomes way too distracting. I appreciate the recent options of "silver" flares lately, though, but if there was a way to remove them from anamorphics (or tone them down as much as possible, which is the more realistic option) I'd go for that for sure.

    Great video. Is it just me or the distortion on the sides of 55mm es way too abrupt ? Don't get me wrong I love barrel distortion but when panning the 55mm, the objects on the side deforms way too violently distracting the attention from what's in the center. And considering the 55mm should be the preferred lens of the set to follow talent around that might be a problem. Unless that's distorted part of the image gets cropped out on 4:3 S35 sensor. Is that the case ?

With all these new affordable anamorphic lenses on the market we will be needing 2x zooms ! Congrats again.

      @cammackey  3 месяца назад

      Nanomorphs are easy to use but S35 and they almost look spherical from how much character they lack. My personal favorite is the Remus because they have a lot of character,m and they’re full frame. So if you want a super clean lens with vivid flares and the destretch.. do the nanomorphs. If you want a classic anamorphic look that still is plenttt sharp for the 4d.. do the Remus. There’s also the Sirui Saturn 35mm, it basically looks like the nanmorph but it’s full frame. For me tho, the nanomorphs and siruis pincushion distortion ruins the whole look for me. If they had more anamorphic character I’d possibly entertain them more. But the Remus just do it all for me.

      @lensninja 3 месяца назад

      @@fullbars In my experience these cameras with ibis and actually most CMOS-sensor cameras work well for tube-video-stuff etc, but not for cinema. Therefore either a film format or a global shutter camera without in-camera stabilization just look better. Panasonic and Blackmagic are pretty great cameras, but the movement and jello just make it look like a cheap video camera footage. Sony has a much faster sensor readout speed, so it's kinda decent, too bad it doesn't have open gate (though if it would have, it would be slower and that would increase the jello effect..). Hoping the FX3 II will be better, and with a lockable ibis/sensor.

    Someone help a complete newb over here! I’m shooting on a mirrorless 16:9 sensor and primarily shoot weddings. I want to add some distinguishable character and charm to my films but the technical part is over my head…if I shoot with these lenses and have to crop on like crazy for the final deliverable, is the final result significantly different than just shooting in spherical without having to crop? This may be common sense to some but I’ve never owned an anamorphic lens before and I’m really intrigued!
