Thanks Brady. I stumbled across your videos a year or so ago. Always enjoy the content you put out and find them very helpful and encouraging. These lenses look absolutely sweet.
I purchase the Remus 33mm T1.8 to shoot with the BMCC 6k Full Frame, and now im looking for a Close Up lens, which do you recomend, Remus or Cato 85mm?
FX3 is a 3:2 sensor, as are majority of mirrorless sensors. Heard this said a lot in cams video too, but it’s a 3:2 sensor that simply crops into 16:9 for video recording. Look at the FX3 and Red Komodo sensors side by side for comparison. The komodo has something around a 16:9 sensor. Fx3, 3:2.
@Eyeofkamau no, it is the point, because you cannot use the whole sensor in video, therefore it is effectively a 16:9, which restricts the height, which you need to get the full unstretched image. Why open gate is very important for 2x anamorphic
Ok but the basic math is a little lacking here... 1.77:1 * 2 = 3.54:1 not 2.7:1. And Alexa35 open gate is 3:2 or 1.5:1 so 2x on it is 3:1 not 2.39:1. You're severely underselling how much you have to crop the sensor on these lenses
It seems the lens is best suited in low lighting or naturally lit situations where the lens avoids direct light as much as possible. Seems quite messy with flares and bokehs. What'd you think? Is it really worth getting now despite the £400 off, or wait until they fix a couple issues with the lens, like they did with the Remus and just bite the bullet on the default price?
@@BradyBessette Oh I'm not saying they are necessarily bad, and I've been keeping tabs on these lenses for a while now. Just wondering if it's worth waiting until Blazar fixes any issues following feedback, like they did with the Remus green flares, or buy them now whilst they're cheap?
@@RUclips_can_ESAD You have clearly not dealt with Cooke Anamorphic/i or Atlas Orion lenses, have you now? 😂 If you look at the shot at the 2:32 mark, you'll see what I'm referring to. Don't be judging too quicly buddy.
@@ccm4428 Those shots around 2:32 are from prototypes. The versions being released now have been tweaked a fair bit - even the focal length - so I don't think you'll get quite the same funkiness.
Remus, if you see the 2x cato on a 16:9 sensor, the Cato are super skinny and wide. If you can select open gate, you film more height and when squeezed it is not so skinny. Cato for open gate, remus for 16:9. ❤
This will come down to taste- while it's true that 2X was traditionally meant for 3:2, 4:3 or 6:5, users who do not love the barrel distortion will find that the Cato on a 16:9 sensor cropped to 2.40 aspect ratio will look really clean and you will still get that nice 2X squeezed oval bokeh.
@blazaranamorphic that is true, I just wanted to make people aware that if they use a fixed 16:9 format, they will need to realise they will lose a lot of the image with a 2x. Thanks for commenting 🙂
Go for 1.33x it will stretch to 16x9/2:41 but will have that least character. The higher up in stretch more character. If you’re okay with losing more image go for the Remus

@@oscarlizarraga8395 komodo sensor like all red sensors (except Gemini) is 1.89:1 DCI aspect native. So 2x anamorphic desqueeze will yield a 3.78:1 aspect ratio and need about 37% of its horizontal width to be cropped for 2.39.
I think we need to see more content from a sensor that can do 6:5 to assess this better - 2x is not ideal on a 16:9 read out sensor. I have one if Blazar would like to send a set over 🤣

Lovely, lovely footage. Exactly what I want out of anamorphic lenses, sharp without ever feeling technical. Really nice organic look to them.
Brady never disappoints....
Cato or Remus? Now as a buyer I have a choice and no one is comparing the two. Sony shooter as well which makes me think the Remus.
Think it’s based off of your camera. For something like the BMC6k/Pysis the Catos are great because you have the 6:5 mode.
im sold. obsessed.
2x squeeze factor defienetly affects the length of the shirt too
😂🎉

do you get more real estate when shooting prores raw? or is it just more detailed?

Yes true 👍 but most cameras will not let you use the full sensor when you select video.
@@waynosfotoscameras yes, as I mentioned - it crops into 16:9
@@Eyeofkamau yeah, you did, but do you know why having the extra height is so important for 2x anamorphic lenses?
@@waynosfotoscameras of course lol… That’s besides my point though, I’m simply pointing out the fact that the FX3 is not a 16:9 sensor.

Lenses will be perfect for a Venice or Mini. Both have 6:5 and 4:3 Anamorphic modes won’t need to crop anything
Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K and Pyxis have a 6:5 mode for 2x desqueeze 😊
The little Z Cam F6 too 😊
Gawd that gives some good character. Was this forest footage graded with one of your reverie luts and if so which one??
if you had pick just one focal length, what would it be?
1:55 and 2:01 were these shot on 85mm?
Where can I get that shirt???????
This is Cammackey if he stayed in LA 😂😂😂
That location is 🔥
Beautiful. You need this sharpness if you want the Hollywood look.
lets go halves 😂
Do you have a link to the diopters used?
Super helpful thank you
Where did you get your music from. I like the song choices

I mean I did say that it was the least scientific and technical review on RUclips 💅🏻
Alexa 35 has a 6:5 Super 35 crop mode for anamorphic use, same with the BMCC6K/PYXIS. 2x is meant for 6:5 where you get a 2.4:1 desqueeze

“Seems quite messy with flares and bokehs”… I see why Cam gets frustrated, comments like these miss the ENTIRE point of anamorphic lenses.

Thoughts on Remus vs Cato when it comes to 1.5x vs 2x on a camera that doesn’t offer open gate?

Yes, he is. That's the large silver ring you see near his lens mount.
Will the same happen on komodo with the 2x squeeze factor?
