this, ladies and gents is the difference between a real cinematographer and a content creator. watched all the videos on Cato 2x this week and wasn't convinced until I saw this video. great video, great lens
Very nice cinematography! I do own the dzo Pavo 75mm. Which covers FF. I wonder how they would match if I buy the cato 55. You mostly used the 55&85 right? With diopters? If yes, which one?
I became interested in these lenses because of your videos from half a year ago about them! Happy that we were able to collaborate together in some sort of way for this launch :)
@@FramesOfInfluence very impressive man!!! Haha I was worried my footage was too fast and didn’t show off the true performance of the CATOs but you just freakin knocked it out of the park. Let me know if you’re ever in Cali
Fun stuff. How did you find the distortion? The walking shots definitely showcase the swimming edges pretty heavily but it didn't seem noticeable on any of the dolly pushes towards the subject. Overall, especially for the price they look like great lenses. I just wish the 125 was also at least a 2.8
I think the lenses are quite beautiful. You will notice the distortion a lot more while panning, whether that is a good or bad thing is up to you. I really do recommend buying these lenses if you can. Owning anamorphic lenses of this calibre seemed like an impossible dream when I was first starting out - so having them available to me, especially at this price point, is absolutely wild.
Hey @Matt great job, I'm highly considering buying the set. Did you shoot primarily wide open, or did you typically stop down. I've seen several shots in this short and other test footage and some shots look pretty soft in the center (I know the edges distort and that's fine). Just curious in your experience if these perform better stopped down or not. Also, how bad is the breathing? Sorry for all the questions. Cheers.
Hey there! I would definitely recommend buying the set. They're quite lovely lenses. I shot everything at a T/4 I believe. Mainly, I did this because I had no time to thoroughly test them prior to my shoot - so I just decided to go with T/4 - which was very sharp. The breathing on the lenses is going to be pretty strong, but that is one of the reasons why I liked them so much. The shot at 2:20 is going to be a good indicator of the breathing for the lenses. Please ask lots of questions. I have no problem answering whatever I can!
@@MattBendo-CSC-AIC thanks for following up. I did order a set before the sale ended. I'm excited to see how they look on my V-Raptor VV [X]. Also, did you shoot with any diffusion filtration or just ND's?
I loved that 55mm! The 85mm and 125mm were all fantastic though. The opening shot and final shot of the film are on the 85mm. The first 3 moments underwater are shot on the 55mm. The 40mm wasn't ready at the time of this shoot, so its just the 55, 85, and 125 that were showcased here. I can't wait for the 40mm.
If you're talking about the push in of him using the map - it was a dana dolly :) on the 55mm. That may seem like a long focal length for that FOV, but remember that it is a 2x anamorphic on the Arri Alexa Mini FF sized 3:2 sensor.

100%!
Absolutely wow.
Simply breathtaking.
Unbelievable image at this price point for sure...but this short was awesome all by itself! Great work!
Thank you so much :) I genuinely really love these lenses.
This is world class, really high level stuff, rare to see! Very nice work
Thank you so much :) I really do appreciate that
Absolutely stunning.

Nice work guys, very well balanced short with catchy imagery 👍👍👍
Wowowowow

A masterpiece!
You're too kind! Thank you so much Ed! I will be making more stuff and posting it on this channel soon enough :)
good work!
Thank you very much :) I just posted the behind the scenes video too!

THANK YOU!
Looks beautiful! What about definition? What aperture did you use in the wide angle shot of the forest with the man & horse?
That was shot at a T/4 on the 55mm :) Alexa Mini LF in 3:2 mode

Fabulous! What camera was used alongside these lenses?
This was the Arri Alexa Mini LF in 3:2 Open Gate mode :) I cropped it to a 2.39:1 aspect ratio in post. I shot ProRes 4444, not ARRIRAW.

@@MattBendo-CSC-AIC copy you. It didn't look like you did, but I just wanted to confirm. Cheers and bravo on the nice work!
which camera did you used?
is it safe to say the 85mm is the best performer of the bunch?

0:31-0:36 was this shot with a dolly or steadicam or something else?
