Some of your comments were so well explained. I’ve been making a living as a director, cinematographer, writer and actor in “Hollywood” for over 30 years and was shooting super 8mm and 16mm from the age of 10 before that. Your point about the “paint brush” is so important. The lens is what we use to capture our story and that story should drive that lens. And there is no one answer as each filmmaker feels it different. Anamorphic may not be the tool for one person (well loved Roger Deakins is one) and be the total end-all for another. I shot one feature film as a director with anamorphic after begging and pleading the producers (this is after directing a dozen features on spherical) and could not until the last couple years go out and practice or even attempt a low budget (under 100k) feature without anamorphic til now. Not every one would I want to use them on but I bought the A set last month out of the Burbank office and shot in Asia with them the last month right out of the box! Was learning their traits as I went. This B set I don’t even know about (I just landed back in the US 6 hours ago)! So thank you (and curse you) for making me aware of the new set and for explaining what you did as I feel most RUclipsrs/filmmakers get very confused on what they are talking about when it comes to “looks” and lenses and why we use and choose them. Like people, they are varied and gloriously different and “perfect”.
I'm half way though the video and wanted to say Cam must have a clone locked in his basement or something-how else could someone push out so many videos back to back with such great quality? P.S. I've been watching your videos since the ZCam era lol
I’m siting in my color correction studio right now, doing final color on a series that I shot with the A set of these lenses. Dammit, Cam - you made me order the B set… for those of us who purchased the A set direct from Blazer, check your email - you can get the B set for $1999 - you should have a code in an email. If you can’t find it, give their North American office a call, they were super helpful.
Finally someone saying it real : anamorphic lenses are NOT meant to be used wide-open. They are way too soft and doesn't make your image looks good. Most DP use them at T4 / T5.6 or even T8. It's great that you are debunking these false ideas that wide open is not creating a more "cinematic" image. For me the B-set is definitely a better choice since the 50mm is clearly the most useful focal in the whole set.
Great demonstration across the board, but my favourite part was the K-9 sniffing out the mountain Feline and the very end "F that's hot" little wash session.
The 50mm seems like the sweet spot. Once the 33mm comes out, the 50mm and the 100mm would pair up with it very well. Blazar are making very interesting designs. And thankfully these are PL mount rather than some mirrorless mount which are very hard to adapt.
Yet more fantastic stuff from Blazar, great to see so much footage thanks Cam. Great point about t8 still separating the subject. I shot a load this winter at t8 and was amazed at how good the separation was while showing the environment in a painterly way.

You give so much knowledge in 1 vid that's some channel s never give in their whole channel history..with "for dummy like me" examples..you are gold for us users and by gold for panasonic...as you did now more than commercial- you actually prove your point 👍💯
Thank you so much for this Cam. I've been waiting out for another sale on the A-Set but this B-Set is next level! With the 33mm as a 4 lens option as well, I'm totally sold. Also agree with your anamorphic comments too- they're often not clinically sharp and that's why people love them. Keep up the good work man!
Probably 50mm is best lens in both sets, since it has nice anamorphic texture and pretty good sharpness on the object in focus. Perfect for those who wants a clean anamorphic look.
Wow, can't believe they pushed out more quality lenses this year. As always, amazing videos Cam! You and Ed Prosser are my favourite on the platform. I've been loving the 45, 65 and 100mm silver flares. The 33mm and 125mm have me concerned about my savings.
I totally agree with stopping down on anamorphic's, I grew up on movies from the 80's such as Star wars, indiana Jones even Die Hard, they all used Panavision C series and all of them where stopped down. I have been on an anamorphic trip over the last few years and you summed up a lot I have found. We are lucky that there is so many options. I have been having fun trying the Samyang anamorphic adapter and it has a surprisingly nice look.
Blazar are really offering an amazing line up. I am most interested in the 33mm as I already have the A set. The 33mm brings a wider look, which you can't cheat by cropping! Love filming close with wide lenses! ❤
Great video, like always! The lion was scary, but the B-set really looks better than the first set of Remus lenses and they're still gorgeous. It's incredible how they can make them that sharp and with those organic flares at the same time.
Sharpness and CA tests were invaluable, thanks. Feels like the new lenses outperform the old ones, which is good - but also bad because now the set's not consistent. Still, good to see their progress in a year!
I recently shot a feature with the A set on the Venice. Footage was amazing. Blazar is killing the game. One the best investments I made. Will definitely cop the 33mm. I really wish they had a focal length between 200mm-300mm. In order to get a ECU had to put a +3 diopter on the 100mm which required us to always use a different matte box when going for ECU. Great lenses still.
I truly understand your frustration when people come to anamorphic world haha I got approached by a couple of buyer who's interested in buying my sirui anamorphic lens. They mostly take picture of models and portrait then complained the lens was too soft and not crystal clear sharp like... bruh that's how anamorphic lens works.... They don't even know what chromatic aberration and barrel distortion mean. Really makes me think us cinematographer understand our gear way better than most photographers... Not to look down on them so of course I did gave them some free education on anamorphic lens and what type of lens that suits their need.
Thanks for the video, Cam. While I’m here for the lenses, I also want to shout out how amazing Sedona is - she stayed alert, but calm, in the face of a full-on predator. Amazing companion!
9:45 I agree. I think another great modern movie example is Godzilla x Kong the most recent one. Some of those shots had some serious swirling and barrel distortion (especially in those close up Hollow Earth scenes) and tbh I loved it! I love T2.0 and T2.8, give me dirty!!
Ok I was considering it after renting the A-set for a few shoots. But now....time to get the card out lol. Thanks for the in-depth look at the new B-set Cam!

I like the softness and the edge distorion from Blazar Remus 45mm. Would i achive the same look with vintage lenses (canon fd/helios/nikkors) and Blazar Nero adapter?
Damn... These look sooooo goooood! I actually love all the softness and bloom and usually shoot wide open with my A set. I'm not really sure I need any of these B set lenses especially since if I need to a little bit closer in with any of the A set lenses, there's always clear image zoom on my Sony. But they really do all look really great. If I didn't already have my original set, I might have chose the 33, 50, and 85mm since those all seem like the focal lengths I normally use. Although that being said, anamorphics are obviously a lot wider than those focal lengths that I'm used to so it's hard to tell if there would be an advantage. Also, @cammackey, Do you know if they're going to send you the 33mm? That's the one I might actually just buy on its own to fit in that extra hole in the case. ;)

I love this review thank you. I wasn't quiet happy with the blue flare set.
If I want to keep the set I already own. What would be your take to add the B set with the silver flare?
BTW I canceled the amber flare set, as it took blazar ages to sent it out. The store was kind enough to let me cancel the amber, but they held the money for a down payment for the cato set (Silver).
ha! in mexico that lenses doesnt even exist. in fact, i've never seen an anamorphic lens here. jajajajaj (i wish i could afford one, but thats another story)
What is a T/2.8-T/4 split?

Ну, не плохо... 50мм))
Are we going to laser these also lol
Why do you think I was asking you for recommendations 😂
I love these videos I just don’t likable the narrative that people didn’t know a fact you learn at what ever time. A lot of these fact you say people didn’t know are facts 90% of film school kids know.
