Glynis Johns actually looks kinda like Shelley Long, just older! One could easily see Shelley herself play Mrs. Chambers in a (long belated) spinoff (perhaps centered on Diane in LA?). She can certainly do voices well--as the "allergy" episode makes clear! lol
casting directors generally do look for actors to look alike when they are related on screen hence that's why she'd have being cast due to the physical similarities.

What i don't get in this ep is why diane would have asked sam, boggs was single-why didn't she ask him? If it was just for the mother to stay wealthy then why not?
